[Q] new to the Android - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I got a mytouch from a friend that was unlocked and rooted, i am trying to find out the software used and see if there is a better android os out there than what is on it. the phone kinda runs slow and i want swype, but i also want to stick with the magic version of the os.. can anyone help me

First find out what ure device is 32b or 32a, u can find out by powering off, hold volume down n power on this can tell u what board (32a,32b) n radio u have, then search for a rom that fits the board. U can google "rom bible" for a lot of different versions of android, if u need help pm me

Right so it's the original mytouch. I suggest you grab a rooted ROM based on the Froyo update that was rolled out by tmobile a couple of days ago.
As for swype, it's a closed beta. There are installers floating around, but they're illegal for people to distribute, not to mention you need a new build every so often.

what id really like is for my phone to look like the samsung captivate. that would be sweet, can you help with that ?

Don't think there's a rom like that, but there r plenty in the rom bible, I preferred superfroyo or the new tmus rom found here in the forums

[help]g2 always reboot when i open camera

hi, I have just bought a htc g2 magic(TIM). I got a very terrible problem as the title says, it aways reboot itself when I try to use the camera.
I have tried several ROMs, but I still get this problem though other ones told me that it is ok for them.
Is it a hardware problem or software problem or other?
the following the detals of my phone(if any other information you need, please let me know):
SPL info:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H

Maybe your cam is brokken so when you try to access it you get hit with a FC,
not sure. but not crash every time. if you try it after rebooting, it is ok for a short time.

i don't understand the sense and rom, could you be so kind to provide me a link or sth.?
You don't say which ROM you are using. There are quite a few Magics that have the reboot problem with the Donut 1.6 ROM, mine included. T-Mobile was replacing them. See this link:

You can flash a 1.5 ROM like I did. The camera works fine but I gave up voice directions in Google Maps and Voice Google search.

TIM camera reboot
sorry that i pick up so old thread but.
Does anyone found a fix for this problem?
I also have a TIM HTC Magic black with red border and another black HTC magic with silver border.
On TIM's one there is a problem with random reboots when using camera on 2.1 eclair roms (i've tried a lot of roms - random reboot when using camera on all)
With silver magic there is no problem
It looks like the problem is only on TIM magic.. maybe different hardware.
Also, as described above on 1.5 rom (I've tried CursorSense 1.2.6.1 which is cupcake) there is no problem with camera.
is there solution for 2.1 based roms ?
Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general
Same with my Rogers Magic. Only 1.5 roms are okay.
The problem is that Rogers hasn't rolled out a 1.6 or greater ROM. Once they do I can complain, but before that they'll say that I hacked it and it's my fault.

So far you can NOT run Android from the NAND, there is a few ROM's that are built very very light and will allow you to boot straight to Android such as NRGZ |LEO|Android ROM|, there is also XTarantula Android: EClair (senseless) and then you have darkstone HD2Froyo v1, which is just the android files you place on you're sd card, so far personally the best version I have used, and finally my personal faveourite as this rom allows you to change your'e android build ChuckyDroidROM 23128 works very well woth darkstone HD2Froyo v1
Ok so this is all I could find at the min, but i'll keep it updated
Also if you could change youre thread to [solved] it can drop down to the bottom and we can link it in here so we are a bit more organised

android rom???????????????

Hi can anyone please tell me what android rom should i use on my hd2 which has the least problems and and best performance
Mdeejay_eVo_Sense has been really good on mine!
Since most of them are now pretty stable and mostly working (no camera on Desire HD builds yet), you should just try them and make your mind up. The problems that people have are generally different from person to person, so no-one can tell you what will be the best one for you.
Read & try - it's easier than flashing, so just give it a go.
helpp............
i have a non us hd2(purchased form dubai) which i flashed using severel radio roms to run the android and it worked very well but wifi stopped working on both winmo and android(desire hd rom). pls tell me the radio ro or the thread where info about flashing hd2 radio rom is available or may pls paste a link

No, do NOT run that 1.66 stock ROM on a T-mobile US HD2, it will brick your phone.
and HellocK, you need to be looking through the proper ROM sections for the T-mobile US HD2...this is the area for the european version (Leo).
One of the local section mods will be by shortly to move this thread to its proper location.

sorry guys did not mean any harm, only was trying to help, did not realize you was using usa rom.i am sure if you can find something compatiple like the european rom and have 2.15.50 radio update it will work flawlessly.i can recommend also mdj revolution hd with hastarins 8.5.3 that i,m using at the moment its fast and battery life is excellent.
I had that problem a lot when I first started using Android on my HD2, what I do now is every noew ROM I put on first thing I do is go into settings, display, uncheck auto rotate, and turn off auto brightness and set it pretty high, never had that problem again. Give it a shot, maybe it will work.

Change the radio. I had that same problem with the 2.11.50.26 before. I am using 2.14.50 and it work fine. Winmo Rom in VBN 3.14 . And do you have the original card? If you have a crappy sd card won't help the matter.

Just follow the instructions, you will be fine.. most people who use this rom flashed any of the 3 gingerbread based radios and some tend to change their radio from time to time, between froyo and gingerbread...And what radio are you currently on?.. i would suggest you leave it, instead of changing it if your not experiencing any problems..the last thing i can say is that i flashed one of the radios and i was at my job and i got a horrible signal, but when i flashed the latest radio i saw signal improvement, and i never changed the radio again..
a simple way is to download the radio zip. leave it zipped. rename it PD15IMG.zip (if it isn't named that already) & drop it onto the root of your sd card (while connected to the computer, not into any folder, just onto the root). safely remove your device. CHECK MD5! while your phone is off, hold down the volume down & power buttons together, until the screen with the androids on skateboards appears (hboot). your phone is going to automatically scan for the file (the reason it needs to be named PD15IMG). it's going to ask you if you want to update, choose yes. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH BATTERY TO DO THIS. a progress bar will appear, let it do it's thing & then, once done, it'll say 'press power to reboot' or whatever. after you're done, i'd take the file off your sd, as everytime you go into hboot, it's going to scan & ask you to update.
or, if you're a visual learner, go to youtube.com, in the search bar, type mackster248. he previously owned a mt4g & made a ton of awesome tutorial vids. he did one on changing your radio.
hope this helps. good luck.
Thanks guys! I really appreciate it...that sounds a lot easier then using adb...and also how would I back up or save my current radio? I have never changed it specifically...I have only flashed roms and kernels...never a radio..so I am assuming my radio should be the stock one unless they change when you flash roms or kernels...again I am fairly new to this...I rooted my own device and flashed all my roms but I have not messed with my radio and I think I need too considering that my signal has been cutting in and out...thanks so much guys!

if you're not seeing any problems with your current radio, i don't see any reason why you need to change it. but no, there's no way to "back up" or save your current radio. if you really want to try a new radio though, i would suggest the panache one, it's really good
