So does the update.zip actually install or does it complain about signatures?
To get # in the shell you need to type 'su'
Just because a "root" app runs doesnt mean you have root either.

Sorry, forgot that step. Su in terminal is working now. Just have to do it manually.
yes it installs without errors. I literally just rewrote the updater.script to include the sgh-t959d and installed it on my device.
If a REAL developer sees this and wants to start working on things for this phone (roms, whatever. ) and need nandroid dumps/ OS dumps, lemme know what to do.
Clockwork recovery works perfectly so

If you know your way around odin, you can make a back up of your kernel image by doing this from your device:
Code:
[FONT=Verdana]# dd if=/dev/block/bml8 of=/sdcard/recovery bs=4096
[FONT=Verdana]# dd if=/dev/block/bml7 of=/sdcard/zImage bs=4096[/FONT]
[/FONT]
You can then copy both from your sdcard onto your computer. Now you will need a linux box or cygwin to package the files we just pulled into odin files:
Code:
tar -H ustar -c /path/to/zImage > USCC-stock-kernel.tar
Then try flashing one of jt1134's kernels just to test and see if they work on your device, i dont know why they wouldnt.
sorry im noob at this...
so the update.zip for telus fascinate works??? or no
Do i just insert the file to my sdcard and update it through recovery console?
please help me (((((
thx
I keep getting an error that says "in /sdcard/update.zip (status 7) installation aborted. HELP!!! Thanks so much
Getting the same error/installation aborted message.

I need some serious help. I bricked my phone with a lousy Clockword Mod file in Odin. I need the stock Telus Restore image. So far I can only find the Vibrant i-9000 and Verizon t500 stock files. Someone please help me! :-(
GREAT! I thought I had found a Telus Fascinate Image.....turns out with was an ATT Captivate image and now I can't even get into recovery or download mode. ADB wont work either because the phone just starts up with the ATT splash screen n loops with reboots. Is my phone dead? $100 to anyone that can get this working again. PLEASE!

Also, Apparently Z4Root works, but I never knew about it so I did this. Try that too.
Still need a forum for this bad boy.
I vote it get's called the fascibrant, Because it's NOT a T-Mo vibrant (Different radio) and it sure as hell isn't a fascinate. (different... everything. )
Yeah, I'm thinking about picking up a Telus Fascinate. Although it would be niche community for roms yes? As far as I know Telus is the only carrier to have this specific device... I currently have a desire, and there's plenty to do with that phone. I'm just a bit worried even with root access, there will be a limit to the phones capability still.
All that aside, YES, we do need a forum specific to this rare beast.

The first rule of anything rom or recovery or kernel related for ANY of the Galaxy S phones is. DO NOT FLASH ANY ROM OF ANY GALAXY S VARIANT BUT THE ONE YOU HAVE OR YOU WILL HAVE A BRICK! So yeah. You most likely broke your phone.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
z4root
Would z4root work on our telus fascinates? or does it only work on Froyo. I think we're supposed to get the update to Froyo in 2011 though.

True.. even tho its called Fascinate.. its not actually THE fascinate...
In fact the model number is more similar to vibrant than fascinate
(T959 =vibrant T959D =telus "fascinate")
Yesterday I bought invisibleshield by zagg for samsung fascinate and guess what
it doesn't fit!! Samsung tweaked the model designfrom the original
fascinate. surprise surprise.......
I am desperately waiting custom roms to be developed for telus "fascinate"
so that I can remove this old 2.1 Telus fascinate getting froyo update early
Jan, but I can't wait ((

that is why YOU DONT FLASH STUFF FROM OTHER SGS PHONES ON YOUR FASCINATE. this has been beaten to death time and time again on every forum, its getting really annoying to continue to see these threads
but yeah try and push all the odin files again, system, kernel, cwr
PDA
and they do get pushed to pda not phone right? If this doesn't work what can I do to get my phone back.
lol, funny that shortly after reading a thread about people screwing up their phones, this pops up.
Check the threads at the top of the development forum.

I would suggest this or calling (800) 922-0204 and hoping for the best
There has to be a way to get the phone working again?
anyone!!
Try the latest package posted by Adryn and see if that works. If it doesn't, then I think hoping that it can be replaced is your only option.
Well, if it's a lag fix issue. You may need a new mbr as well. In case you are wondering, mbr is master boot record.
Look up adrynalyne's voodoo fix as well. Start there.

Hi don't know about visionary but there is an easier way to root if you have adb installed.. Search for GSMroot.. Or I'll post later as am on mobile... If you do want to send it back just flash the oringal rom from HTC website. I doubt you hero is bricked.
Edit : http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?1930-How-To-Root-The-2.1-RUU-or-OTA-Update-For-The-Hero
THe above is a good guide I use presuming you have ADB installed
but do remember to copy a custom rom to your sd card as update.zip
so that you can install it when you boot into recovery, cause otherwise you will loose root on rebooting and get to the red triangle with the exclamation mark.
good luck
hi again
could someone plz let me know in detail how can i flash original rom .i dont have adb installed. i just want to return it and dont want them to know i was trying to root .plz i need to return it in a day or two ..(
Followed these instuctions:

My phone is now stuck at the google logo and will not go past. After rooting and clockwork i was not able to load anything else but i would not boot.
Please help.. Thank You
seriously? there is like 4 threads on how to root it, and you go with one that you shouldnt.. lol
it had pictures.. lol
all the threads on here talk about specific phone models and i wasnt sure so i just went with it... Bad choice on my part..
hopefully someone can help
load up fastboot and try to get to recovery if you can then awesome.. try wiping everything and see if that fixes anything
Pull the battery, hold volume up and power and follow this post to get into recovery. Then like shabby penguin said, when you get into recovery wipe everything and you should be good to go. Again, the post I linked you to is the proper way to root the 4g...

Oh, guess I didnt catch that.
ok your best bet it to go into fastboot and flash the clockworkmod 3.0.2.4
did you do the oem unlock command?
yeah i did the oem unlock.
ok well assuming you followed the directions from this guy, then you have a diff bootimg on there i can toss a few files that may fix it, but no garuntees...
seriously tho
(You should see that “LOCK STATE” says “UNLOCKED”, meaning your Nexus S is rooted.)

is posted on his site.. that would be a good indicator to me to stop listening to anything he said.. he then later in the comments was trying to help someone and told them if usb wasnt working then use a microsd adapter to put the files on..
yeah i am kicking my self in the a$$. Is there anyway do just get it back to stock?
well have you tried flashing a kernel? if it gets to bootani then its usually rom erros, freezing at spalsh screens is generally kernel images
is it possible to load a kernel when i cant see the phones memory from the computer???
someone has to have some idea of to fix this...
just got me to stock unrooted phone.. please
yes, download this
boot into fastboot and type in fastboot flash boot /path/to/natarchy.img
replace /path/to with where its located.. this should get you rollin again
thank you... thank you... thank you!!!!!!!!
i have learned my lesson and i wont stray from the xda forum next time.
Again thank you
I have a similiar issue as OP...I tried to flash netarchy kernel with kernal manager and then phone rebooted and got stuck at google logo.

Any ideas?

Waiting for device means Windows does not recognize phone. Reinstall drivers.
ok sounds like a driver issue, i used pdanet to install the drivers i needed. try fastboot devices, if it doesnt show anything then your phone isnt connected
Ok used my mac and was able to get cwm recovery on device. I could mount it. Now how can I flash back to stock. I9020A att 3G version. Booting now I see google and a lock.
Thanks everyone!
I cant seem to get out of TWRP. I use adb and i used "adb boot recovery" and i cant seem to get out. The issue i think i have is that the adb keeps pushing the command to the phone. Now before you say "Just unplug the phone and reboot it"... I did that. Now it seems that the code is stuck with the phone . Iv tried to put it into TWRP my self without adw and tryed to reboot it but that didnt work. No other tread helped me. If you could tell me how to how to fix this or link me to a thread somewhere else. Its a Verizon phone.

So you're stuck in recovery??? If so, just flash one of the Verizon based roms that should get you going.

This happened to me. I just had to use the hardware buttons to boot into recovery then reboot from there and that got me out of the loop. Not sure why that happens.
