[Q] Wifi IP-adress receiving fail - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I was using Mattc's 1.8 for weeks and suddenly i got this weird wifi fail.
My phone contancly tries to connect to my network, and when it does, it fails on the point when he's obtaining the ip-adress. After that my phone will scan again for available network and i end up in the endless loop.
I found a similar thread on this
But on this thread they talk about flashing back to stock rom, wich I can't since i'm using dhe haRET bootloader.
Anyone else with this strange thing or maybe a solution?
Thanx

Pretty obvious suggestion, but have you tried deleting the access point and starting again? If yes, have you checked your wireless router to make sure you've not disallowed access for some reason?

Try disabling you router wireless security encryption and see if phone connects with no encryption. Its a start to isolate the problem.

Try manually entering the wifi network information on your wizard. I've had problems getting onto networks just because the phone wouldn't look for the settings on its own.

What operating system are you running.Windows 5 or 6 or 6.1 and what
rom and version do you have.I had trouble with one of the Roms doing that and downloaded a different one and it worked fine. You might try a different one.

Wifi Hanging On "Obtaining Address"

My wifi has been working just fine on my Vibrant since the day it came out. Never had an issue. Never changed the settings. Now, when I turn it on, it gets hung up on "obtaining address". It eventually gives me a 'wouldn't work' type message. I don't have the upgrade yet, so that shouldn't be it. Any thoughts? :-/

Is your USB connected by chance? I had the same problem once, where it would not connect to the wifi with the USB plugged in.

No it's not. Sigh...wish it would be as easy as the suggestions given so far. Please keep 'em coming!
And thanks for the quick replies
Try setting up a static IP and see if that works. If that works, then at least you know you have DHCP problems, which are mostly likely on the server itself (your router, etc.). If the static IP works, then go to whatever your DHCP server is and look for an option to clear all previously remembered leases. Then go back and start fresh again by re-enabling DHCP on the phone.
That doesn't work either. I've tested 3 cells, they all connect. It's just mine. :-(
Now I just wonder if I should wait for the OTA Update or just get a replacement. Honestly, I'd rather not do either. lol
I had the same exact problem. I flashed the JI6 update with Odin and it works fine.

REALLY?? Oh, that would be great if it were that easy! And by easy, I mean this newby will attempt to spend the next day and 1/2 trying to figure out how to flash J16 update with Odin, lol.

[Q] How to allow incoming TCP connections (WebDroid, SSHDroid, etc.)?

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone knows how to make Android open the ports necessary for incoming connections for server apps to work without having to ping the client first under su?
Or failing that, is there a way to run a script that will ping the client IP instead of having to run the command by hand in terminal?
Thanks!

Second that! Something's off in 99/100 ROMS, TCP doesn't seem to do anything. Only one Sense ROM by cotulla seems to work.
I disabled the adblocking hosts file to test if it had anything to do with it (e.g. SSHDroid doesn't work with it) but that didn't help anything either
Agreed, does not seem to work on any rom I've tried, only Cotulla's 'Stock Desire' Sense build seems to work (this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893620).
Too bad Sense's so completely dire, otherwise I'd use that. I want CyanogenMOD.
Having the same question. I am sure here must be someone who knows how to enable inbound connections....
Little update:
I noticed it is possible for me to ping and use all services when using the gateway to access everything, in my case the access point/wifi router.
So it looks like this is some kind of routing/firewall issue but I can't find anything about default blocking or firewalling on android...
Good news. I found out what is causing this on almost every build.
It has something to do with the stock wifi tethering. If you try and enable it in almost every rom it will fail, but now turn on your wifi again and everything works as it would normally do!
The build it does work on also has working stock wifi tethering, so that explains that...
For now it's good to have this workaround and I hop to have a proper fix in the future
im using RAFDROID 3.0 and i dont think i have this problem at all. I tried SwiFTP and it connected without any issues.
Try to update the busybox version mine is 1.15.2

I tried this on Frankinstine's awesome ROM, but no cigar. There has to be a firewall rule or setting we can tweak to allow this kind of traffic...

It works for me, but it's not 100% foolproof. It seems to work for a while, but not permanently. However, it's still better than the ping method. The ping method would never work for me, since I use Wifi at least 4 different places a week. Even when done automatically, how would I know what to ping on what Wifi network?! Random DHCP on workstations notwithstanding...
This does it for me:
turn on normal Wifi
wait around 10 seconds (for Wifi to 'start')
turn on Wifi hotspot (normal wifi should turn it self off automatically)
wait around 20 seconds (the hotspot takes a while to 'start', it actually fails (error) for me, but still does the trick)
turn normal Wifi on again
At that point it "works" for me, at least for a while.
At the very least this seems to indicate that the broken Wifi hotspot and this problem are related -- on Cotulla's build (where stock Wifi hotspot WORKS), this problem is non-existent.
Unfortunatly your steps do not work for me :-(

That's unlucky. Those steps seem to "work" for me on CleanDroid 1.30. Maybe we can just hope it works again when the stock wifi hotspot is fixed.
Alternate "solution":
Get Cotulla's "Stock Desire" ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893620
It definitely works on that. Too bad sense is dog****, and your battery will last for a day max.

Just tried this and it worked. As soon as I started the wifi the second time my computer started pinging HD2.
My usual procedure for fixing this was to start wifi, see assigned IP address and then ping my computer from 'Net Ping' app. This can be faster sometimes.
Is there a way to port hotspot from Cotulla's build to a nonSense build? No way for me to come back to sense again

Don't know, it's probably in the kernel, so shouldn't be too difficult, but then again, I haven't really got a clue about building ROMs.

[Q] WiFi Problem in XBmod Yuki (Updateable WP 7 Mango ROM for HD2)

Hi guys.
I have an issue with WiFi in this WP7 ROM. They say that you can fix it by lowering the channel of your router, and there are 2 fixes (CAB packages) that are supposed to fix wifi or something.
My problem is that, even after applying the fixes and lowering my router channel I am STILL unable to enter my network. My problem before was that I cannot see the network at all, but lowering the channel seemed to fix that. However now I can see, but not Join my network. It is password secured and it is NOT mac filtered.
My router channel is 1
I have tried both fixes and neither have worked
I have hard reset countless times
I have run task 29 countless times and reflashed
WiFi works in neither 7004 or 7720
Funny thing is, that for a very short period of time I got the WiFi to Work and that was when I first lowered my channel to 1. I have tried several channels, but NONE worked. In the begining when I flashed the ROM for the first time ever WiFi worked, I upgraded to mango, and when I activated the Live services it stopped working (after a reboot). The next time I got it to work was when I lowered the channel of the router to 1.
This is weird and I don't know what to do. I could not find anyone with my problem anywhere!
P.S. The messege I get is something like: Your phone couldn't connect to the network Gratis Internett (my network) because there was no response from the network.
Same problem here.
My device don't detect Home Wi-FI, only the neighbors wi-fi.
Strange Think.
Sometimes, I Restarted de reuter... to detect and connect without problem. But if for any reason I turn wi-fi off... i've to restart... and restar again.
I apply the WI-FI fix EU. No difference
i have a diffferent problem with the wifi. I disable my wifi on my phone and my data slows down. i enable and it moves regular any fix for this?

It might be that your wifi is faster than your phone. Don't know if it helps but if you install advanced config you can add a 3G toggle, and enable wifi n mode, but DO NOT try to prevent phone from relocking (you will lose all xaps)

My problem was that it didn't detect the network. I fixed that by lowering the channel of my router. My current problem it is that the phone REFUSES to connetct to my network!

Do you have set up access control on your router?
Because the MAC-Issue (random MAC on every reboot) is still not fixed.
I was investigating on this issue but I'm still not able to create my own cabs...

Do you mean like mac filtering? I made it clear in my top post that I DO NOT have mac filtering on!
It's funny, but restarting my router was something i forgot to try. It fixed my issue...for now...
EDIT: Oh my god! I have reboot my phone and WIFi still works! Wonder for how long...
EDIT 2: I have reboot my phone once more, but this time it stopped working. I will just have to reboot the router every time I reboot the phone. -_-

Even if you said you have no mac filtiering, it seems to has something to do with the changing mac 'cause that's what changes after a hd2 reboot...
Does your router have an option that sets a maximum number of cennected clients? - 'cause it maybe calculates the number based on the mac...

Now that's a whole different thing. Since the router is our Home router, I don't have 100% control over it (I'm the 14 year old son ^^) and my dad knows that. I'll ask and tell you what I find out. Thanks for this suggestion.
And did you (or your dad ) get it working?

It wasn't the issue.
Hmm, I'm sure you did it already but have you tried some other wifi devices? Or another OS on your phone (Android,WinMo)?
The issue is quite confusing... Anyway, the last option I can think of is to reflash wp7...
PS: If you want to test it with android, dualboot would be the best option...

I have had and I currently do have Android on my Device. It's WP7 that makes the issue, not the device. It works like a charm on cyanogenmod7!
I found a solution for this.. the issue here is not the phone.. the issue was the router. the best way to end this issue is to reset the configuration of your router.

[Q] WiFi hell - WiFi connected but no Internet access

My a500 is stock running 4.0.3.
Recently the WiFi has become totally unreliable. It shows that it is connected to my network, with good signal strength, but most of the time none of my apps can connect to the Internet. As far as I can tell it seems to connect on its own every few hours because my email is downloading from time to time while the tablet is unattended.
At any time, I can make the WiFi work by turning it off in the settings and then turning it back on. It will work for a while but before long the Internet connection is gone (even though the WiFi is connected). This is really annoying and tedious. I shouldn't have to constantly do this.
I have lots of other WiFi devices and all of them are working just fine; this includes another HTC tablet, cell phones, laptop, etc.
No changes have been made to the a500 in ages so this definitely isn't due to installing any new software or anything like that. My WiFi used to work just fine until this problem popped up. Now it's a major PITA to use. Yes, of course I have tried power cycling the tablet and that doesn't solve the problem.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I haven't tried, and I was hoping to avoid that because I hate having to reinstall all my apps. Hoping there's another option, especially since I may go though with the restore and still have the problem.
I did some more research and found that other devices with WiFi problems were fixed by turning WMM off in their router's QOS or turning mixed mode off in their wireless settings. My WMM is on and so is mixed mode. Anyone think that could be the root of my problem?
Possibly. Try it

yeah alot of people tried saying to increase router timeout or somethin like that and letting it connect to a differant wifi to fix it but it never worked i dont know why haha i agree i hate installing al my apps over thats why i dont flash roms alot lmao. mmm make sure your not exceeding maximum amount of wireless connections for your router and that you didnt accidentally block it lol

That could possible help, if you do not want to do factory reset. There are lots of applications that will save all your applications like app backup and restore or titanium backup.

I'm not rooted and had little motivation to root my tablet.
Maybe I'll use a less sophisticated solution like App List Backup which will at least save a list of my installed apps. And IIRC it's supposed to save a link to the Play store for each app but I din't think I've ever gotten that part to work.
