Hello, I would like to upgrade to the Hero stock 2.1, but I am rooted from Android 1.5. Is there a way to upgrade to stock 2.1 and stay rooted? Or do I have to upgrade and then re-root?

Yes, you must wait for someone who root it so don't update but you can flash some roms like VillainRoms or Cronos or Modaco which are based on the 2.1 update !

Can I flash the ROMs available in this forum and later if for any reason I didnt like any, can I flash the original Froyo on my HTC Wildfire?
restore it as it was shipped.

Of course you can. Nandroid backup or look for official FroYo modified without new hboot.
Because if you flash the new official Froyo (RUU) or OTA update, you won't be able to root it nor install any other ROM. Otherwise, you can install an older 2.1 RUU, which can be rooted then.
Ask me for more help if you need

As far as i have experienced with my wildfire, once u flash RUU froyo on your wildfire,u cannot flash back an Eclair RUU as the latest HBOOT wouldnt allow you to overwrite with a previous version.
If I am wrong ,please correct me.
I dont want to downgrade to 2.1 but get back 2.2 original

Yes, you can't downgrade with the official RUU, because of the new HBOOT. But there are now SAFE roms extracted from RUU, so is the RUU without new HBOOT, so can be rooted.

But now, which version you have? Official update 2.2.1? If you have updated by wifi when the phone showed "Update available", you can't do anything now, until the official Froyo can be rooted.
If that's not your case, explain in which situation are you right now.

Well, you can downgrade to 2.1 but you won't downgrade the hboot, so you won't be able to root neither or install another ROM. You will have stock 2.1 unrootable.
Be aware of that.
Essentially, you are now stuck with your official 2.2 update. There is nothing you can do now. (Except maybe find someone with an XTC Clip)
So I'm rooted on 2.3.3 with the official ota, I'm suffering without a. Oc kernel, is there a way I cam downgrade to like cm7 or 2.2 rom with a kernel? Thanks!
Rooted with the official OTA?

Or is it more like "was rooted before upgrading"?
Yeah my bad, I waited til they released a rom with the official upgrade, hope that makes sense
If your rooted and just running a rooted "official update" ROM then you can flash whatever you want. As long as you didn't accept the Gingerbread upgrade pushed out from Sprint and still have s-off your good to go.
