So I've wanted to get back into custom Roms and the like, but was worried I'd brick my phone when I went to the 2.2 OTA. Is the new SBF that was released fixing the bricks people made when 2.2 OTA was released?
I bricked my Droidx because I tried to go from 2.2 to 2.1 but with the new SBF which is 2.2 I unbricked my droidx lol. so no more worries in flashing
P3droid tweeted that you can brick a Droidx. Apparently he did. Not sure how.

He also tweeted he bricked it while trying to crack bootloader. If ur not doing that ur safe with the sbf.

Is it necessary to flash back to stock and be unrooted to receive to upcoming GB update?

As I understand it, yes, you need to be unrooted and stock (I've heard it must be .340 build as well).
When you root, you will not receive updates.
It's up to you, but if you want the stock GB then you will have to be stock, I SBF'd back to .340 build.
Hopefully Friday the 13th will be a lucky day
Good Luck!

OK thanks. I think I am going to flash back to stock also. Thanks for the advice.

You have time, it's been pushed back to the 26th.
Didn't P3 warn everyone you may permanently lose root if you accept the GB OTA update?
That has been said about other updates, then a couple days later, it's rooted.
It will be unrootable initially...will it stay that way? I kind of doubt it, but anything is possible.
Pushed back? Oh well......after I'm all back to stock and ready to go. Im thinking about just staying stock with temp root only, until the OTA. I just hate all the bloatware!

I fully bricked my vibrant by using 2.3 bootloaders and flashing back to stock 2.1 without flashing eclair/froyo bootloaders first (duh) to update through kies to 2.2. It would not power on at all. I sent it to mobiletechvideos.com in Texas and within a week my vibrant was jtagged and now the wife is using it with no issues at all. The service was only $50.00 and well worth the cost and wait as the vibrant is good as new to flash, flash away! Thanks Josh!
You could've done it by yourself

let me understand:
you flashed 2.1 by clockwork mod? because my last time i flashed 2.1 through odin, without changing the bootloader first.
I flashed through odin to 2.1 then I was using kies to update to 2.2 but I should have flashed 2.2 bootloaders before using kies. I should have fully explained myself...sorry.

Stay away from kies mini.. Hardbricked me too. Jtag repaired fixed all but now Ive learned my lesson.

Hi all
Just unlocked my bl and rooted this awesome phone. I notice I am on 2.3.2 right now but would like to update to 2.3.3.
I have heard there is a method to manually flash this update without losing my unlock/root.
Could anyone point me in the right direction?

I've heard of people flashing it OTA and then doing Flashtool to recover it, because your Play will be bricked afterwards... I still don't know if you would still have unlock and root after that though... I'm thinking of jumping ship to CM7.
Would someone mind referring me to the steps of ota and then unbricking with flashtool please?

Just got my hands on a fascinate cheap. I'm coming from a fully rooted moto droid 2 and I want to get my samsung rooted and get Miui running. I've seen some different posts on how to root. Anyone got any suggestions for which method works and the best and whether or not I need to number on 2.3 or 2.2. Or whether it matters or not.
Thanks

Welcome. First flash cwm recovery via Odin. Then flash miui 1.9.16 or Droid Vicious 1.10.7 (not 1.9.30, Widgets won't work as I've read)
Again welcome to the forms. I also came from a Motorola phone (Droid x) and rsd is just like Odin so its pretty easy to get used to.

Cool man. Thanks. So Odin achieves root right off the bat. I know you can't load cwm until after you root moto phones.

Miui comes pre-rooted. Not need to root.

Odining a pre-rooted ROM will achieve root off the bat.. And Odining a stock rom without root will remove it..
Sent by way of the GB delivery truck..
In order to flash anything on motorola phones you need to achieve root first. Then flash custom roms. Your saying that you achieve root through odin and then push the rom through with odin?

Pretty much.. ya, unless the ROM is in zip form then we just Odin CWR then flash through there.

I have a droid 2 non global. I had all ota updates and now i cant root my phone. I have tried everything, even the droid 3 root and nothing. Anyone else having this issue since the latest update? I am stuck and need this bloatware gone. And i want a good ROM. Please help..

If you installed the most recent update without using Voodoo RootKeeper to back up your root, you're up the creek without a paddle because the newest update breaks root and changes the bootloader so you can't SBF.
Tappin' and talkin' with Tapatalk.
Thanks. That explains it!
