[Q] Using Rom Manager (ClockWorkmod) to install zip file? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I was wondering, how can I use RomManager to install zip file (such as language packages) on my Droided HD2.
As we know in Android Phones (like Vibrant) you root the device, and install the RomManager and can boot into recovery mode and do install the updates and packages.
I would like to know is there any way to do the same thing on Droided HD2 or not? (and how?)

2nd-init and etc

sorry it has only korean readme and init files
you will need to remove /system/persistent and /sdcard/OpenRecovery folders before install and backup copy init files on /
install is so easy
first root your phone and and connect the usb cable
second copy the files and folders on rar/sdcard and rar/pc_installer/sdcard
third run the batch files(preinstall->main) on rar/pc_installer/pc
last make 'ramdisk' folder on /system/etc and copy init files before install
i think you will need to reboot twice success to run
special thanks for hounjin modding 2nd-init binary
you will can download
modules for it (also you can install it use clockworkmod) from http://dateno1.egloos.com/category/%EB%A1%AC%ED%82%A4%EC%B9%9C%20for%20motoroi
this is example files
you can only the phone root/unroot even 2.2.1
you can also use 2nd-init or boot script and etc (i think make and use module for it is very easy)
also it support ext3 if you copy jbd.ko and ext3.ko on /system/lib/modules

it support setting file and etc
and i edit script and somethings (it for xt720 mixpack )
i use it for skaf, dlna, overclock script, boot sound, etc
also clockworkmod zip file format is very good (it will make easy install/uninstall some app or function)
my rom havn't almost bundle software and i make install pack so if user want something easy install/uninstall that
and i think it only way to root/unroot on phone for 2.2.1

ok i think you misunderstood, or you mean some different app, 2nd-init is to call init.rc once again and kernel reloads its init process files. so the script you refer to must be added after you run 2nd-init, that is not a mod of 2nd-init, but the rom itself, right?

again you mean running clockworkmod from 2nd-init? running the update.zip zip structure is not a clockworkmod standard, but used since android 1.5 on Hero
or you mean something else?
i run clockworkmod from 2nd-init and leave the rest to CWM and its functions, i dont do custom scripts, when its part of cwm.
i edit init script using 2nd-init
so if you have OpenRecovery folder on sdcard it will goto openrecovery edited (it has clockworkmod run menu) and if you not it will edited menu (it can run clockworkmod from system partition)
but i don't know when i use this way why clockworkmod can't format or overwriting boot partition
i make it for rom's modules (every xt720 can run it) (it has 2nd-init&2 bootscript runner and install pack function, backup phone (also ext3 and froyo's sd secure) (if you want you will change everything exclude kernel, lbl, mbm)
clockworkmod's zip format is old type but it can copy, delete, move, symlink etc
so user want to change or add or remove something from phone, it will do that for few second (everyone can making use some packs for phone) (and it's very easy)
i want to everyone install it for phone and many people making pack (it will every one can have own's customized rom )
sorry for poor english
i success make pack every defalt apps on phone (install/uninstall)
even i make app2ext3 pack if you before parted ext3 partition on sdcard (just install and boot, install and boot, install) (1th install modules and etc and 2nd insert boot script for move and symlink and 3nd remove 2nd's boot script)
i think it will can more easy to using phone
even in korean rooted phone can connect bank's app (it has root check)

Trying to Root Nexu s I9020A on 2.3.6

Hello XDA,
So I was following a youtube guide that shows how to root nexus s. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSD92Qjt5Og). This is one click verison. So after unlocking the bootloader, when its time to select flash CWM, the CMD window would just close. I guess the file i was using were bad. So then i switched over to another youtube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA6DlAqYUeo). In this video, (using the files in video's description), I mananged to flash CWM (but i used the latest verison of CWM 5023-cyan.img). Then pretty much followed the video and got superuser installed on my nexus. Now when i tried to boot into recovery, it will not boot into CWM. it shows the android with exclamation mark and there when i press volume up and power, i am taken to the stock recovery i guess.. So now I am confused if my phone is rooted. I do have superuser installed on my phone right now (version that was included in the 2nd youtube video) but I don't have CWM. I am interested in flashing other ROMS. How and what should i do? Sorry for the long explanation. Thanks for your help
Use root explorer or similar program to rename the file "/system/etc/install-recovery.sh" to anything you like (e.g. install-recovery.sh.bak), as this script is run on boot and replaces a custom bootloader if it is installed. After this just flash CWM again and you can be free
You'll have to do this anytime you install a Google Stock ROM.

I installed ES File Explorer and I cannot locate any folder called system.. the only 3 folders I see are "android", "clockworkmod", "Lost.DIR". root explorer is paid app. do you know any other free app. I don't know if this ES File explorer allows me to see system files. Its only showing whats on SD card...
NVM... i managed to get another app.. that allowed me to change the file name as you suggested.. then i installed ROM manager.. Flashed CWM from there.. and rebooted into recovery.. and GUESS WHAT.. I GOT CWM.. .. thanks buddy..
No worries mate. BTW, for ES, you need to go to options and tick the two options all the way at the bottom (enable root, mount /system).

How to flash CWM 6.0.1.9 without PC

So I have a Nexus 7 32GB wifi and I unlocked the bootloader and rooted it last night and had CWM touch installed. The problem is, when I boot the tablet back into recovery, it doesn't load CWM, it just displays the stock recovery screen with a weird android logo.
What I'd like to accomplish at this point is to install the latest version of CWM Touch 6.0.1.9, which I already downloaded from the official site, it seems to be an img file, and after all that is done, I'd like to install the latest version of CleanROM.
I have no access to a computer at this time, so would this still be possible?
Can anybody please walk me through it?
so I acutally managed to download cwm from the market, and it installed, its not the touch version, but it works. I also used es file explorer and went into the system folder, and renamed the recover-from-boot.p file.
Now, what I'd like to do is install cwm touch, but I only have an img file of it downloaded, any ideas on how i can install it without a pc?
have you tried the Rom Manager app, is that how you installed CWM from the market? Rom Manager might have the touch version, but i haven't looked myself.
otherwise, you could probably install the .img file using Terminal Emulator on the phone. sorry i can't give you the exact command, but it would be a dd command and you would need to know the name of the recovery partition to write the image file to.

So yea...I got rom manager from the market, and installed cwm that way, its not the touch version, but it was enough for me to install CleanRom 3.0
Now, regarding Rom manager, it has an option to flash the latest recovery mod, and I used es file explorer and found the following directory:
/sdcard/clockworkmod/download/download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/
inside was the following file:
recovery-clockwork-6.01.9-grouper.img
Now, I wonder if I can simply replace that img file with the following:
recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.1.9-grouper.img
would I need to rename it and remove the touch part of the file name?
I was thinking of just replacing and flashing via rom manager, you think it'll work?
just tried my above theory, and rom manager is actually smart, it downloads a new copy when you want to flash cwm
I've done something like this (though I forget exactly what) using Android Root Toolkit app.

Yeah, I'm sure it checks hashes before flashing anything, and since they didn't match, it downloaded a new copy.
I thought you could buy the pro version of rom manager and it would then flash the touch versions for you?
When I go into Rom Manager and choose flash CWM it gives me the option to flash the touch version or the normal version. Maybe you need to flash the normal version with Rom Manager first then it'll give you the option for touch?
if you have the .IMG file for w/e recovery you want to install, download Terminal Emulator app from gPlay and fire off the following commands:
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/shineynewrecovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1 bs=4096
Alter the /sdcard/shineynewrecovery.img to wherever you saved the .IMG of the recovery.
I just created a zip. Testing now to make sure its all good and then I'll post the link
*edit*
Here's the link

I know that when I did this for 6.0.1.0 people had trouble flashing this from TWRP but if you have CWM non-touch already installed flash this and you're god to go. Feel free to mirror

[TUT] Probably the simplest way to load a custom (CyanogenMod) ROM on your Hero!

Hi all.
I had an Orange UK Hero GSM on the latests official stock ROM and looked everywhere for a simple way to get Cyanogen 7 on it...
Most the 'simple' ways I found involved typing in text in a command line window and the ones I tried (including the official CyanogenMod instructions) did not work...
With a lot of looking around I've found a simple way that involves no typing and only downloading 3 files! So here goes... but before I do, remember I am not responsible for any damage you cause to your device. I am sharing the method that worked for me...
1) Put the attached apk files and the CyanogenMod 7 zip in the root directory of your SD card in the phone. The CyanogenMod zip can be got from: here.
2) Install the Universal Androot apk
3) Run the app to root your device (using SU option 2.1-2.2)
3) Install the RomManager 4.3 apk
4) Run the app. Choose install Clockwork Mod Recovery to install the recovery
5) Choose install ROM and when the phone boots into CWM Recovery select to install your CM7 zip from your SD card.
6) Reboot and you've got CM7.2 on your Hero!
Let me know if this works for you and hit the thanks button if it does! This guide would have saved me a day of trial and googling if someone else had written it first! :cyclops:
Thanks to the makers of Universal Androot and Rom Manager... it's their work that made this job so simple!
Thank you!!
Thank you for sharing the almost extinguished Rom Manager 4.3.apk
I've been looking for it for almost 3 days.
Thank you!!

OVERVIEW
ROM Installer, by JRummy Apps, is the best way to find and install custom ROMs and ZIPs. It is a must have app for any root user.
You will find more ROMs available than any other app on the Google Play Store. It has many of the same features you will find in Goo Manager, ROM Manager, ZipInstaller and other similar products.
Installing ROMs like Android Open Kang Project (AOKP), CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android, Miui and others is easy. Some devices will not show as many ROMs because of the lack of support for that specific device. Please contact your ROM developer to add their ROM to ROM Installer or goo.im
ROM Installer also offers the fastest way to install the most recent recovery. All TWRP recoveries are hosted on our fast server and updated on a constant basis. No other app offers an easier way.
DOWNLOAD ROM
What is a ROM?
A ROM is a modified version of the Android OS. ROMs are often built from the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) with added features. ROM Installer offers many popular ROMs to download for supported devices, including CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android, MIUI and AOKP (Android Open Kang Project). There are countless other ROMs and ZIPs you can install too.
ROM Downloads & Details
When you first open ROM Installer a list of supported device will be loaded. You must have an internet connection to list the most recent ROMs. Wifi is highly recommended when downloading ROMs because they are usually large ZIP files.
When clicking on a ROM in the list you will be presented with the ROM details page. This page offers screenshots, comments, likes, view counts, descriptions, a list of files to download and install and links to the ROM developer’s social media sites.
How To: Download & Install a ROM
1. Download and install ROM Installer from Google Play.
2. Click on the ROM Developer of your choice.
3. Under the ‘Download’ section click the ‘Download’ button from the quickaction menu.
4. The file will be downloaded in a background service and notify you when completed.
5. Once the download is complete, click the notification and it will open a new ROM Install activity.
6. In the ROM Installer select the option to wipe and backup your current ROM (optional but suggested).
7. Click install and confirm to reboot your device into recovery mode.
Tips and Tricks:
Before installing a ROM you should always know how to ‘unbrick’ your device incase anything should go wrong. Installing custom operating systems can be dangerous and rooting most likely voids your warranty. JRummy Apps Inc. claims no responsibility for any damaged or ‘bricked’ devices, loss of data or any other damage that could come from installing third party operating systems.
Always remember to have a current backup and keep your apps and data backed up. Forum members at websites like XDA-Developers or RootzWiki are helpful tools when you have questions about flashing a new ROM or ZIP.
BACKUP & RESTORE
What is a nandroid backup?
A Nandroid backup is a backup of your entire Android system saved to your SDcard. Due to the possibility of anything going wrong when changing aspects of the Android system, we highly recommend that you have a current Nandroid Backup. By having a current Nandroid backup you can manually restore your device through recovery.
How To: Create a Nandroid Backup
1. Download and install ROM Installer from Google Play.
2. Click menu -> Create Backup
3. Enter the desired name of the backup (no spaces allowed)
4. Click ‘OK’ and then confirm to reboot into recovery mode.
How To: Restore a Nandroid Backup
1. Download and install ROM Installer from Google Play.
2. Slide from left to right to open the sliding drawer.
3. Click ‘BACKUP & RESTORE’
4. Select the backup you want to manage or restore
5. Click ‘Restore’ and then confirm to reboot into recovery mode.
How To: Extract Files from a Nandroid
1. Download and install ROM Installer from Google Play.
2. Slide from left to right to open the sliding drawer.
3. Click ‘BACKUP & RESTORE’
4. Select the backup you want to manage or restore
5. Click ‘Extract’ and then select which tar file you would like work with.
6. You will see two tabs (Files, Apps). You can extract and restore app data and files from previous backups.
Tips and Tricks:
ROM Installer supports both TWRP and CWMR backups. You need to have the correct recovery installed to restore a backup (TWRP backups cannot be restored in CWMR). If you update your recovery manually don’t forget to update the recovery settings in ROM Installer.
Upgrading ROM Installer enabled the ‘Extract’ feature. This can be used to restore apps and old system files quickly. More features and planned in this section for the future.
Things You Should Know:
Creating a backup requires you to install a custom recovery. ROM Installer supports TWRP and CWM recovery. Please read more about recoveries in the ‘FLASH RECOVERY’ section.
FLASH RECOVERY
Things You Should Know:
After rooting your Android device, installing a recovery is the most important next step. What is recovery? In Android, recovery refers to the dedicated, bootable partition that has the recovery console installed. A custom recovery offers much more than the default recovery that comes pre-installed on your device. It allows you to install custom ROMs, wipe partitions and restore your phone when ‘soft bricked’. Before rooting and changing anything you should become familiar with a custom recovery.
ROM Installer goes to great lengths to get you the most recent recovery for your device. It has thousands of recoveries hosted on our fast servers to meet your rooting needs. ROM Installer is the easiest way to install your favorite custom recovery.
How To: Install a Custom Recovery
1. Download and install ROM Installer from Google Play.
2. Slide from left to right to open the sliding drawer.
3. Click ‘FLASH RECOVERY’. A list of supported recoveries for your device will be listed.
4. Select the recovery of your choice and click ‘Yes’ to confirm your install.
5. The recovery will download to your SDcard and be installed.
6. To reboot into recovery mode you can click the menu -> Reboot Recovery.
Supported Recoveries:
Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP)
We recommend that you use Team Win Recovery (TWRP). TWRP will allow you to easily install any ROM using ROM Installer. TWRP is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. TWRP is built off AOSP recovery and has the standard recovery options and much more. It’s a fully touch driven user interface – no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.
Clockworkmod Recovery (CWMR)
ClockworkMod Recovery is popular and has been around for years. Unfortunately this developer blocked all other apps from using the official version of ClockworkMod recovery unless ROM Manager Premium is installed on the device. If you choose to use CWMR then ROM Installer needs ROM Manager to install custom ROMs.
After you have selected the recovery you would like to use just tap on it. The recovery will download and install.
ROM INSTALLER
Things You Should Know:
Installing multiple ZIP packages at once has never been easier with ROM Installer. You can drag and drop files to order when each flashable ZIP will be installed. Before your recovery installs any packages, you can choose to backup your current ROM and wipe data and cache partitions.
How To: Install a Custom ROM
1. Download and install ROM Installer from Google Play.
2. Download the ROM and any extra packages (Like GAPPS). Use the ROM list to navigate and install your favorite ROM.
3. Once the ROM download is finished click on the notification to open the ROM Installer
4. Select to backup your current ROM and wipe data and cache if desired/required.
5. Click ‘INSTALL’ and confirm to reboot into recovery mode and install your ROM
ROM PRE-INSTALLATION:
Backup Existing ROM: This will create a backup in your recoveries default backup directory that you can restore later. You can locate your backup in the ‘BACKUP & RESTORE’ section after you install your ROM/ZIPs.
Wipe Data and Cache: This will wipe any apps and data. It is important to backup your apps and data before installing a ROM. You can use ROM Toolbox’s App Manager or another of your favorite backup apps to easily restore app data afterward.
Install Queue: To add ZIP packages to the install queue click on the ‘ADD ZIP’ button. You can either add a flashable ZIP package via a built in file browser or from the files saved in the download database that ROM Installer manages. Once you have added your ZIP packages you can re-order them using the drag and drop feature, slide them to the right or left to remove them from the list and click them to see more information about the file.
Installing ROMs & ZIPs:
The ROM Installation depends on your custom recovery. When you click on the ‘INSTALL’ button (located at the bottom of the screen) it will ask you to confirm to reboot into recovery and install the ZIP package.
If you are using an officially built version of ClockworkMod recovery then ROM Manager is needed to install a single ZIP package. If you want to install multiple ZIP packages and also use the official version of CWMR then ROM Manager Premium also needs to be installed in order for ROM Installer to work correctly in recovery mode.
ROM UPDATES
Receiving notifications for ROM updates:
Installing the latest build of your ROM can become exciting and addicting to see the new features. The ROM Update service provided in ROM Installer checks for new ROMs on goo.im and the individual developer’s server (if enabled).
How To: Enable ROM Notifications
1. Download and install ROM Installer from Google Play.
2. Open the sliding drawer and select ‘ROM UPDATES’
3. Select the time interval (from the dropdown menu) and the time of day to run the service.
4. Make sure the Switch is set to ‘ON’
5. If an update is available you will see a notification in your app drawer. Clicking on the notification will start a new activity to download the ZIP from ROM Installer or goo.im.
GOO MANAGER
GOO Manager Features:
- Browse compatible ROMs and ZIPs for your device
- Browse and search any file hosted by hundreds of developers
- Sponsor login for faster downloads
- ROM Installer for downloaded flashable ZIPs
- Download thelatest Google Apps (GAPPS) hosted on goo.im
- Installe the latest recovery by Open Recovery hosted on goo.im
- Receive update notifications when goo.im developers add new ROMs
Things You Should Know:
The website, goo.im, is a popular hosting site for ROM developers. The Goo Manager built into ROM Installer offers all the features found in the official app from goo.im. Many of the ROMs available in ROM Installer are hosted on goo.im. For faster downloads you can donate to goo.im to get instant downloads instead of waiting 10 seconds. Donations to goo.im do not support JRummy Apps Inc.
If you would like to have direct access to the Goo Manager from your launcher you can enable this feature in ROM Installer Settings.

hi,
could you add PA-Google Apps? Because they offer a minimal gapps package as well. For me, i only need a few of the google apps.
Can i only resotre apps+data from nandroid backup? Or is it "advanced restore" -> "data" ?
Does Rom Installer notify me when a new recovery update is released?
1. Just added PA gapps
2. You can extract apps from a nandroid backup. Click on the backup and click extract.
3. Yes, it will notify you of recovery updates.
