Define as good, personally I believe it's better. Hate HTC, worst battery out there and now they sealed it. Nahh thanks.
I will buy it when it's available on Verizon in the US. Like, the 1st day it's available!

I might when the price is down, whether the screen still retain all the issues from previous Samsung phones and with the news of upcoming Nexus devices, I'm waiting for now.
No pre-ordering yet, just waiting, but I will see what people think about it, and then consider buying it later.
For one thing, the price does matter.
Definitely yes

I'll get it around the start of June.
Getting it off Handtec UK.
It's around 720 Australian dollars with shipping.
Since I'm an international customer I won't have to pay for VAT.
That'll make it much cheaper than buying it here, it's like 799 for 16GB.

Just saw the advert on the S3 mini on television. The advert shows the S3 throughout and then says the S3 phone is now available in a new mini size because not everyone wants a large screen. It sort of advertises the S3 mini as a small screen version of the s3 when everyone knows the two phones have nothing in common apart from looks. Very dodgy and misleading IMHO.
It is a great phone (apart from the PPI), but I really don't think it should have been called the S3 Mini... For one there is nothing 'mini' about it, it's not even an inch smaller! Marketing, that's all it is.
They had to cal it s3 cheaper. Still i like the phone.

I'm surprised no one's selling carrier-locked versions of this phone here in the US. I figured they'd sell a few devices.

For the sales in USA Samsung had to play by apple's rules and dont offer this model to any carrier so they (apple) not to include the phone in the lawsuit in the USA. That's why all phones sold in USA are carrier free.

They should sell all phones unlocked I reckon in the UK and Europe Then you can choose what carrier you want to use with your SIM's.

I completely agree. The Mini idea is good but any hint of inadequecy would be foolish money spent on advertising...Something like 'all the power of the S3 in palm of just one hand' that might work!! :good:

I TOTALLY agree! I had the iphone 4 which i gave away, and i have to say the s3 mini is SOOOO much better.
Also, i disagree with the first post. The mini with Jelly bean is as good as the s3 with ICS. Yes larger screen and therefore hogher ppi but in reality not much of a difference! AND HALF PRICE! The only thing i really miss is NFC. I just hope to equip it maybe through an NFC battery??? if possible of course.
I really like the S3 mini. The dual core processor is as fast on the smaller screen as the quad core is on the bigger screen. The S3 mini in its own rights as a phone is a very good phone but it is not the S3 in a smaller case. The S3 has a faster CPU, faster GPU, better screen, better camera, more memory and lots more. Both phones need to have the same internals for it to truly be a s3 mini.
True!

I'm curious. Why'd you "jump ship" to One? Reason I'm asking is my wife's second digitizer (replaced ~1 month ago) is going out and upgrade is due 1 APR. If the One is delayed TOO much, we may have to get a different phone, and the S3 is a candidate. Thx
I want to sell my sg3 keeping my hox, still on fire... I m in Argentina but cant find buyers.. Thats bad:banghead:

I have just got a HTC one to replace my S3.
The ui is far more basic (or close to stock if you prefer) but the speed is awesome and I think I prefer the more natural screen colours. The definition is amazing.
Overall I am more than pleased. Only 2 days in but I have to say that this is my best ever phone. Only thing slightly lacking is it couldn't wait for the 64gb version and I have a LOT of music but I think I will cope with the 32gb version)
The very best feature in NO LAG! I have been waiting for that so long! Even faster than the Nexus 4. In fact this is the phone the nexus 4 should have been.

I'm dumping my Sprint Galaxy S 3 as soon as I can get my hands on this phone. Every review I've seen so far says it's the best phone they've ever rated. Period. Looking forward to a quad core processor.
The GS 3 is OK. The GS 4 looks like more of the same with a quad core. Touch Wiz sucks. Running other launchers has really screwed up my voicemail. Rooting is a bit out of my league.
Sprint still doesn't have 4G in NE Ohio. Sprint 3G is SLOW. Any suggestions for the best network speed from a major U.S. carrier ?
NE Ohio here as well, Youngstown area.
I personally love my gs3, just like new technology and stepdaughters windows phone needs replaced, so she is getting the HTC Amaze and wife will rock the S3.
As far as provider, I like T-Mobile in big cities, but the Bonies it gets rough. I get 20mb down and 3 up on their HSPA +.
Verizon is the best for overall. But they are more expensive than anyone else, but great coverage and great speeds.
If not those two, then would make at&suck next in line.
Sprint is God awful round here.
Sent from a galaxy far away!
If rooted I'm sure there will be ways to force roam on Verizon.
@OP If the quality of the camera is the only thing your concerned with, I really wouldn't worry. HTC nailed with the evo lte camera and by all accounts the ONEs camera is better again

as mentioned sold the SGS3, ordered the Black, changed my mind ordered two Silver Ones......hopefully one of them will be a keeper.
Current interim solution - HTC Hero.......
I'm due a free upgrade, so am keeping my 16GB S3, purchasing a 64gb SDcard and using the S3 purely as an mp3 player. The Wolfson dac is more than excellent.
Will then keep the storage on the One free of music and ensure the 32GB version is more than sufficient for apps and videos/photo.

Having spent time with both, the S3 has more features but I mean when really uses them? The One is a more clean and simple phone with a premium feel. For me personally its hit the sweet spot
another sammy user here, moving from galaxy note to htc one! hell yeah.. i tried the device during a preview here and was absolutely blown away!! gonna be amazing!
Same. Waiting for black 64gb to replace my s3
Now if we all fall in love with HTC and sense and don't go back to Samsung in the near future, I can say that this is their fault for not developing a new design from sg3
Got so disappointed when I saw the unboxing and don't intend to buy a Samsung again.
Since I expect their sales to decrease a lot compared to sg3, they might come with a awesome phone next year. But by then it might be too late cuz everybody who tests sense after been using touchwiz, won't turn back again.

Sorry, not officially sold in US, so you'll have to rely rely on 3rd party importers and will be more expensive unless you know someobe in Europe or Asia that can ship you one.

^This.
Negri Electronics' price is the least expensive that I've found for the 3G version from a U.S. importer...currently at $597.50. But they do have excellent customer service and are a reputable seller. I've ordered "International" items from them several times. GSM Nation and Expansys USA are good as well, but usually more expensive.
Just a heads up to those of you in the U.S. that are waiting for the Int'l 3G/Phone version...It looks as if my preordered Int'l Note 8.0 3G+WiFi (N5100) should be shipped very soon from Negri Electronics (Las Vegas) here in the U.S. FYI, Negri Electronics is showing these as "IN STOCK" at the moment. Your browser user agent must be in "Desktop View/Mode" to see the full details of stock availability. EDIT: they are now listed as "BACKORDER".
http://negrielectronics.com/samsung-n5100-galaxy-note-8-0-16gb-3g-unlocked-white.html
My credit card company sends me email alerts every time there is a transaction over $300, and they just sent me a Transaction Alert for a charge from N.E. I've had a preorder in for the Int'l Note 8.0 since April 16th, and IME Negri Electronics will only charge your credit card when they have stock in hand ready to ship, so my fingers are crossed. I'll keep you updated.
P.S. If you register an account at Negri and put the item in your shopping cart but do not follow through with the purchase (just leave it in your "shopping Cart"), in a few days Negri will email you with a $10 OFF coupon code for the item in your cart. And if you wait another few days they will send you a $20 off coupon code. It's not much, but every little bit helps as this item is so expensive already. Good luck.
I did wanted one of these for everyday devices but it's way too expensive for me. There's nothing wrong with my skyrocket I have now but I want upgrade. And my wife wants my phone so I guess I'll have to look else elsewhere.
Perhaps in a month or two the price could drop to within my reach?

Yeah, it is expensive. No doubt. But if you compare it with the price of a contract-free Unlocked Int'l Galaxy Note II GT-N7100 (which it is almost identical to hardware-wise except for the display, rear camera+LED Flash, and FM Tuner) it is a very similar price, at least here in the U.S.

I don't know how well it's going to receive around the world. This device isn't most powerful or innovative phablet that has yet to come out from Samsung but it is rumored to be more expensive then Apple mini. I don't care if it doesn't have Octa core or 3gb of ram but I am still over the fence about Samsung thinks because it has a S pen it can crush Apple and it's iSheeps without being most powerful and priced lower then mini. Don't get me wrong I love Samsung and I stand by I will only buy Samsung phones since I went thought several HTC(UGH) and Motorola(UGH) and Apple(double UGH) but I think Samsung is being just too ambitious this time. We will see how everything goes with in few months. If this succeed and still priced high, I will go to cheaper option and buy P3100 and wait for something reasonable from Samsung.

Performance-wise, there is not a single problem with the Galaxy Note 8.0, unless you want it solely for playing the most demanding games, which the iPad Mini isn't ideal for either, so? And in some markets such as India, the 3G+WiFi Note 8.0 is only $20 USD more than the iPad Mini 3G+WiFi. For that $20 you get the S-Pen/Wacom Digitizer, PHONE & TEXT capability, and the TV/DVR/STEREO Remote Control IR Blaster! I'd say that is pretty compelling.
My other thoughts regarding the competition?...If Samsung would have made the BUILD QUALITY of the Note 8.0 similar to the HTC ONE or iPad Mini, then I think they would have a chance at being a true competitor in the general public's eyes.
And why not put the "old" 8MP Camera from the S3 in it to sweeten the deal? And please don't tell me that a good camera is useless in a tablet. When you need it, you need it! I can't tell you how many soccer moms and dads I've seen using their iPads to capture photos and videos of their kids between browsing the web or "Facebook'ing" during the game. Or taking photos of products, clothes, or comparison shopping by scanning barcodes and QR codes...or "scanning" business or personal receipts into financial apps.
I also think that they should really advertise and push the IR Blaster/Remote Control feature of this device! Just about everyone that can afford a tablet has an HDTV and cable/satellite service. Having the IR Blaster/WatchOn/Peel functionality, combined with the S-Pen features, true Multi-Window multitasking, and cellular Phone/Texting capability make this tablet/phablet truly unique in the marketplace.
BUT, they need interactive or video displays in the stores like Best Buy that demonstrate these unique features with a "Try that with an iPad...they can't do it" type of message. Everybody already knows what an iPad can do. But when comparing tablets in hand, customers just see a screen with a bunch of icons, they don't know the awesome things that ONLY the Note 8.0 can do!
They also need to advertise as above (like in the new S4 "swimming pool" commercial) how older folks and children can use this device, in addition to the unique advantages it gives a business person. And they need to give developers much more incentive to create unique and top notch tablet-specific apps, with and without S-pen functionality. And they also need to stop trying to copy or duplicate the Google apps that are already available and better! They need to realize that their tablets are nothing without the Google ecosystem.
/END OF ANOTHER RANT, LOL! Sorry.

You have the option of third party suppliers. The other option is to wait a little longer. The LTE version is close to being released. There is a video on You Tube showing it but it's in Chinese and I can't understand it. I will say it looks good though. I'm waiting to see what frequencies the 4G version will come with as well.
I'm pretty sure the only LTE version announced is one that does not use US LTE bands and still would only give HSPA speeds to most people.
^You are most likely correct. I would be surprised if this model had LTE bands that are usable in the U.S. Perhaps if the proper antennas and radio amps are already in the hardware, a crafty developer could port the radio software from the AT&T Galaxy Note II?
UPDATE on my purchase from Negri Electronics:
I received an email from Negri Electronics today with a FedEx Tracking Number for the Galaxy Note 8.0 3G+WiFi (GT-N5100).
However, it is being shipped directly from Hong Kong and not from the N.E. location in Las Vegas, so it will take a few more days to get here than I originally expected (Los Angeles area).
Other devices that I have purchased from them have shipped from the L.V. location so I didn't expect this when I placed my preorder. If I had known ahead of time, I might have ordered one from eBay seller 'never-msrp' in Houston, TX.
Either way I'm looking forward to getting it. I just wanted to let anyone else who has preordered from Negri, or is thinking about it, know what's up.

I've been searching like crazy trying to see if anyone's been able to do this with the Note 8 or 10.1, but I can't seem to find anyone that's been able to do it. I know there's a way to enable T-Mobile's AWS bands for a rooted AT&T N2, but as far as enabling any LTE or AWS bands on a N8 or N10.1 (non-Verizon), I haven't had any luck. I'm not sure they're even the same radios

Wasn't the Z2 supposed to go on sale in March? Does anyone have details on further Europe release dates? And where to find these when they come up?
To me the samsung doesn't have much going for it when its even higher priced than the Z2. Who would pay more for SGS5 when you can get a better device for less, with included gadgets? Possibly people who will get Samsung no matter what and can't steer away or are not informed.

Two things we did not like about the Xperia Z1, was the display and the camera module when it launched late last year. The price tag certainly dropped in December with the phone now being available for Rs 37,000.
At this year's MWC, Sony unveiled the Z1's successor. The Xperia Z2 seems to have addressed on the issues that plagued its predecessor. The new display as Sony puts it, is “a brand new technology integrated only into Sony Mobile displays, for increased colour depth and gradation. And the IPS gives an excellent viewing angle and accurate colours from edge to edge”.
Sony claims that camera processing algorithms have also been tweaked to deliver lower noise levels compared to last year’s offering. Additionally, there is also the much-awaited 4k video capture and background defocus and many new shooting modes. With so many improvements (even with the design and processor) and new features like Noise Cancellation, we can easily say that this year’s Z2 will easily beat the competition. What’s more interesting is that the smartphone has already hit pre-order in Europe in a number of countries.
The pre-order price is pegged at EUR 599 euros in Germany and 599 pounds in the UK, which should roughly translate to Rs 50,000 in India.

Exactly! Pay more for less, sounds like Apple's theme on smartphones. Z2 first smartphone of 2014 with 3mb of ram which i would think by today is the standard. S5 with only 2mb and HTC M8 benchmarks showing only 2mb as well. S5 water resistant for a water spill and Z2 to actually take underwater pictures, HTC will wall behind and overall non of the above. Z2 with much larger battery and better stamina modes then S5 and we all know HTC's battery track record. Of course many will say 2mb of ram is enough, sure but you trying to say 3mb is too much? LOL! More is better in this department IMO. Just not liking the idea of the Z2 all glass back and front.

And when it comes out in the States the carriers will only include the device and a wall charger. Always gettin the shaft in this "goodie" department. Remember when the HTC One came out and in Europe offered free set of Beats earbuds retailing around $100. Here in states ATT, phone and wall charger.

Who ever said anything about 3gigs of ram? And that its too much? Wut are you talking about? I think its great and sony one of the first phones to have that.
Samsung has to make some differentiation between their models so I think its a strategic decicion to have 3 gigs only on the Note 3.

Swedish retailers has it for 6000SEK or roughly about 680Euro but almost every retailer has a pre-order bonus where you get the smartband so subtract a 100euro from that and you get the Z2 for 580

Out of curiosity I just check their site(already pre-orded for $799) they have them listed for $969.99, $789.99 & price not announced. I'm guessing the no/high price were the earlier listing and should have been taken down.
I wonder if they will go down even more before release? Many of the other US sellers also lowered the price recently(including where I ordered mine-to what i'm paying, $70 less).
