PsFreedom?? - Droid 2 General

Is it even possible to create psfreedom for the droid 2 since the kernal has not been unlocked? I thought maybe since the phone has root capabilities it would be possible but I can not find anything anywhere on this subject. I know the d1 has it but idk about d2

I believe it's actually a recovery that needs a custom kernel to work... not 100% sure about that, but I think that's how it works

You can not use a Droid 2. It requires a custom kernel. So, you need a dongle, TI-84 calculator, iPhone/iPod, or another Android phone with custom kernel capabilities.

It's also being patched with any new games that come out, such as the new Medal of Honor. All the games have a PS3 update that you're required to install prior to playing the game, that will undo any kind of jailbreak and patch any future jailbreak.

Well, that is until someone figures out how to have a custom kernel on the Droid 2!

10-4. I believe 3.21 is the last that was able to use this. I know you lose a lot of functionality if you do not update however.

Sorry, at this moment there is not a way to downgrade once you have upgraded. There has been a workaround for Medal of Honor. So, you need Firmware 3.41 or below on a PS3 to have JB.

Thanks, didn't know it was that easy now lol
And btw, if anyone runs into problems, make sure to start this with the bluetooth turned on, and don't run it as an administrator. I couldn't get it going on win 7 64 bit when doing run as an administrator.
Can I do the one click root using .604? And is it worth it? I would like to have a2.2 bass when it comes out. But looking forward to flashing roms and kernels when available.

I would also like to know this. I just updated today while my phone was rooted and now ... no more root. But before i do the one click root again I wanna know thats its safe to do it on .604
What would make it unsafe?
It should work just fine, The update does not patch the root method.
I manually rooted my phone with the .604 update

I just watched a video on youtube of how to root the Droid X and I see nothing that can't be done on Mac or Linux with basic knowledge of the either operating system. Maybe if you need a one-click root for your phone, you shouldn't be rooting your phone. Wouldn't want to bite off more than you can chew.

Also, while I can't verify this myself as I don't have a Droid X, this guy (nicastro78) seems to do fine rooting the device with just the phone itself.

No the only reason you needed to JB was to run "unsigned code", Now the PS3 master root key has been discovered you dont need to run unsigned code anymore as it can be signed.
You can also now install a custom firmware without any need for JB as you can just update your firmware to a custom signed one which has had signing restrictions removed so will boot all homebrew etc.

and you should use perm root
If you're on 2.2/2.3.15 still, you might want to update to 2.2.1/2.3.340 before rooting. Go to settings/about phone and check Android system version and system version.

how to root a droid x 2.2
I have tried many rooting methods and I found Z4root 1.3.apk to be the fastest and easiest way to root. If and when you use this app it starts looping and doesn't finish you simply perform a battery pull and retry the permanent root using z4root 1.3 again and it will work the second time. You may need to try a third time but in rare cases.
sorry for the super late reply. Yeah I mean like a Rom.

Why do people ask that? Once you root, you can have ANY version of stock rom. Or run less stock roms. It's all win.No, you shouldn't recieve OTA updates once you've flashed. But root users will have whatevers pushed OTA long beforehand. Plus you can over/underclock, screen capture, do backups, and run RealHDMI with root.

X-play custom rom

Hi I'm new to the custom rom's and instead of searching through countless topics, mixing up instructions. I was wondering if I could get some directions.
Play is unrooted 2.3.3. I would like instructions on how to put a custom rom on the phone, and which custom rom would be recommended. Thanks in advance people.

If you want a custom rom but dont want to search and read these forums, i give your phone a week before you brick it.

or we could help people within the comunity to understand what's out there, the risks involved and how to get around the problems that could arise? we all need things explaining to us once in a while.
Oh im sorry i see your point, it is always good to be helpful, i am trying to be helpful as well when i say you should search and read, i mean look at all the countless threads where people didnt want to read, theres like 3 help im bricked threads per page.
lol. i know what you mean. and i know it can be frustrating. it's just a shame that the play is so much more complicated than the x10 that i was previously on. it was all flashtool and update.zip stuff. practically unbrickable!! loved it. fastboot and adb complicate things, and i feel that some of the tutorials can be a little confusing to total noobs. so we need to be accomodating to their lack of knowledge (i hardly know anything, so i'm still quite noobish), but also, people need to accept their own actions and consequences. not sure what i'm getting at now, but things need to be simpler for people who want to start out
Actually the way of installation is exactly the same for any custom ROM in this phone.
1) unlock your bootloader, either for free if you bought a factory unlocked phone or for some cash sending Alejandrissimo a PM, which you have to use if your phone is branded and/or Sim locked. You only need to do this step once.
2) install a custom kernel. There are two: DoomLord's kernel and the Cyanogen Mod kernel. The latter allows you only to install CM7. Doom's allows you to install the others.
3) Enter in Clockwork Mod recovery and install the ROM you prefer as long as your kernel of choice supports it.
As to which ROM you should pick, I use CM7 because it's stable and fast. Visit those threads and see for yourself which is the one you like best.
my personal favorite (until cm7 became more usable, and also because i like dooms kernel) was zerojay's aptly named zerorom. it's a very clean and fast sony based rom full of optimizations and tweaks. i'm currently trying out the FXP028 release of cm7 to see if it's more to my liking than it was in previous releases.

You won't brick it, if kernel is incompatible device with either not boot, or bootloop, flahing stock rom with flashtool will fix it though.

Root Keeper app

There is an app in the market called Voodoo RootKeeper. It's suppose to backup your super user permission. Meaning you can unroot with a click and then re-root with a click. Which would work great with OTA downloads without losing root. Has anyone tried this with their Xoom?

Reading it more closely, it looks like it wouldn't help much if you have a custom Rom or kernel, just if you're rooted stock. Then you could use it to take an OTA update and then reroot. That would be cool.

It also would be a viable tool to use for apps that won't except root. Such as movies in the Market. You could switch to unroot download movies then switch back to root when you're done.
