[Q] New DX rooting help - Droid X General

Hi,
i just picked up a new DX and i want to root it. Ive been reviewing a bunch of threads to get info on how to do it, there are plenty available but im not quite sure since info seem to vary from thread to thread.
I found a thread that may work using One Click Root but i dont see the DX as a supported device.
I found another thread that says their method will work on 2.2.19.A955 AND 2.2.20.A955 but when i look at my device i show System Vers:2.3.15 mb810
Android version 2.2
Im familar with the rooting process, I have an Eris that i rooted and installed many different roms so im not a complete noob.
Saying that, I used up a bunch of points with my wife to get this phone so i want to make sure i dont screw it up.
Can anyone provide any insight on if the above will work or if not do you have a link that you found helpful?
Bah... cant link to the threads mentioned above

This is the method I've used many times. If your comfortable with adb.http://destdroid.com/showthread.php?11-Droid-X-2.2-Root-Manual-Method

Newbie looking for one click root for DX 2.2 official

Sorry if this type of post has been answered before but I can't find anything on it. I updated my phone the day the new software came out and it crippled my phone for a day. After that my camera and music player are always crashing or just not working. Soooooo I wanted to know if there was a click root for my DX that's on the new 2.2 Froyo (not leaked version). If you can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Oh, I don't understand all the acronyms and abbreviations so if you could dumb it down for me that would help too. Thanks!!!

Like you I have not rooteda device before and really don't want mine toasted either. Not sure what you looked for when you did the search but when I typed in "Droid X One Click Root" I found a lot of links and I think this one does what you want http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782556.
Here you go:
Droid X 1-click root, now updated for 2.2
make sure the moto drivers install correctly first. Double check this in device mangler. I had to locate and install v4.7.1 before they loaded correctly on W7.
One click root worked great for me.

Cool. I will be rooting on via my Mac instead of Win7.
my link was for windows only.

I'm a total noob and need some help!!

I completely new to the whole flashing and custom rom thing. I've never tried anything like it and don't know much about it. The closest I've come to hacking or rooting my Vibrant phone is with the OCLF app. Now, I too have been patiently waiting for Froyo to come out and for some reason when it did come out I was hesitant to get it. I wanted to see what people were saying about it before I downloaded and installed it. So far from what I'm seeing, its not all its cracked up to be and it seems like Froyo for the Vibrant is "meh" for most. This is a bummer to me but I kept hearing about using a custom and its advantages. Thankfully I bumped into a very useful thread posted by xriderx66 on his reviews on some of the roms out now. Based on what he said, I'm looking to flashing my phone to the Bionix-V Rom by Team Whiskey. Problem is I have no idea how to get started. What do I need to do to flash my phone? Any program I need to download first? How do I backup my files? I'm such a noob at this its funny but I'm willing to take the risk and experience this phone the way it should be experienced. If someone can post a link showing a step by step on how to do the whole thing I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance
Go to the development thread and browse through the stickies. Reading and more reading should be the first two things you do. Pay attention to anything relating to odin.

That thread he posted for you is the best information I have been able to find for someone that is just getting started. I too am just kinda dancing around flashing bionix v. I have rooted and downloaded rom manager and clockwork though...just about ready to flash as soon as I gather up the courage. But everything I have done up to this point was learned in the Noob Guide he linked. Its like vibrant flashing for dummies.

Will do jbat! Once again thanks. @ goodvibrant, I hear you. Tomorrow when I have the time I will flash this phone to the Bionix thanks to this noob guide. I took a look at the guide and it seems pretty easy to follow. I look forward to it!

Sure thing man. No problem. Ive received help and try to give it when I can. I figure if I can help with the easier questions then the guys that know a hell of a lot more than I do, can focus on the advanced questions. Everyone is here to learn.

Another noob here

ok a little backround i switched from a palm pre 4 months ago so i got myself pretty comfortable with the web os and i got the pre the first day it came out so i actually had to root it this was before all the one touch stuff. but there was always the webos dr to help me out if i screwed up. as far as my shift goes unfortunatly ive updated it so i know im gonna have to wait to root it. But can someone point me in the direction of where i can find info on the process. i am by no means a tech guy but i follow directions well. Ive been reading on adb and sdk and i dont quite understand everything i am reading. is there some things i should put on my pc. any advise or help is appreciated thanks
On tapatalk so to lazy to find links but:
One of the stickies on the dev forum is what exactly you're looking for.
Edit: the stuff below does not work according to another thread
Also someone smarter needs to verify this but I believe you can ruu back to an older version which would enable you to root.
Find the one zip unroot thread, also in the dev section. I believe the op has multiple versions now. Find the oldest version, restore your phone to that version and root using the guide mentioned above.
again, not 100% on that so be careful

Check the dev forum, you also don't need adb or the sdk to root the phone its just easier to copy and past the commands. As soon as root came out for this phone I put the files in the root of my sdcard and used connectbot to run the commands.

Phandroid has a pretty simple root guide in the Shift forums if you are still running Froyo (2.2). They basically tell you what to do step by step.
"Rooting" the pre was easy. If you tried to but 2.1 on the Sprint Pre, you had to perform some command line functions. Android tends to play nicer with windows in regard to that area.
They don't have the root process for the update yet. So unfortunately, there's nothing to look for.

[Q] ROOTING of Vision (Desire Z) 2.3.3 Not Possible

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I can figure out, there is no way of rooting the 2.3.3 version of the Desire Z?
All guides start with downgrade to exploidable firmware, and that is not possible without gaining at least temporary root access, and all previous methods are broken?
Anyone has any ideas that work?

Of course it is! Don't you think there would be alot more angry people lol?! You have to obtain temp root on GB then downgrade to Froyo and get S-Off. It's a pain but I just did it on my friend's Evo Shift last month.
Thank you for answering I have spend several hours, and I can't get any of the temporary root solutions to function, they all seem to be ineffective against the current version?
Follow the XDA Vision wiki method. Shouldn't have any problems. I know someone that just did it last week and worked.

I tried that, and just about any other method available, and non of them seem to be effective.

Can you go into more details? Like error code or anything? Are you sure you have adb set up properly? plus, drivers too?
If you can't get fre3vo to work (the only step which might not work, every other step is gauranteed to) use a different exploit, either zergRush or tacoroot will work.

Please post up exactly what steps aren't working. Then we can try and help you

Hello guys,
I just wanted to ask, you say it is possible to root the 2.3.3. and you also said how. Actually I spent like 3 hours today by looking for the guides how to root this phone, and I am really scared to do it without previous asking.
all your responses were great, but I am really a newbie to these things, and those names you said (containing techniques how to root) didnt ring a bell in my head. Could you please just send me a link with a guide that will work?

I rooted and modded two G2 using this method and all went flawless, I read about ADB and how to use it, I read the guide several times to understand what was going to happen.
Read read read and then root and mod. The phones that I rooted were my first and second ever, I am NOT a dev nor am I an expert by any means. My point is that again if you read the entire post before trying anything then you will be successful. My phones were both on 2.3.3 and the process is not an easy one but works well. Hats off to those who took the time and effort to write the guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912 this is the link to the guide.
Thank you for your answer. In any of the threads somebody mentioned the CM´s rooting guide on wiki, I checked it out and I got the idea.
which one would you prefer? the one posted above or the CM´s?
The CM wiki is based off that xda thread.
I would recommend the xda one, as it includes flashgc (for goldcard generation), which the cm wiki doesn't.

I have a friend that just bought an HTC Vision(G2) with 2.3.4 and he has been unable to downgrade using xda or wiki. He thinks 2.3.4 is incompatible with these methods. He is familiar with adb and previously owned a Nexus One. Anyone know if his opinion is wrong?
These methods do work.
If for some weird reason fre3vo doesn't feel like working, you can use zergRush or tacoroot to gain temp-root (which I linked in a previous post in this thread)

Adb can seem scary/difficult to setup to some, but it's not at all. Adb being a tool used in the rooting/unlocking process. See my signature for a link to a guide on setting up adb.
Please stay away from any so-called one-click rooting/unlocking solutions (especially Visionary), because a lot of them don't work, and some carry a high risk of bricking your phone. There is absolutely no risk of bricking your phone if you carefully follow the XDA Wiki guide. Read it first, and feel free to ask questions if you're not sure about something.

It can be done and quite easily (took a while but it was very smooth). I did it on my friend's EVO Shift recently with 2.3.4 which is very close to our devices (an uglier cousin one might say lol). Sometimes if you get stuck, it helps to take a break. Also, don't over complicate things. Commands while using adb have to be precise. I suggest using copy and paste. Also double check you commands before hitting enter. I am quite sure 2.3.4 still works with frevo. Maybe his drivers are mixed up. That's usually what it is. Make sure you can get all your functions to work before rooting like usb tethering and whatnot.

Help, please!

My friend asked me to root his samsung galaxy for him. He doesn't have a sim card in it and it is running 2.2 froyo. I have tons on experience rooting and ROMing my Droid x2 from Verizon and my Acer tablet but I don't know where to begin on this phone. I read the sticky and I've been researching for the past week and have still yet to even get the correct drivers. My friend needs it tommorow, and he already gave me some money to do it for him. If any one, any one at all could link me to the drivers for the phone, and how to root it (prefferebly not through adb) or if you can do it without hooking it up to the computer, I would be eternally greatful! All I need to do is get the phone rooted and get a recovery on there. Somebody please help! Thanks guys!!!

There's a bunch of different galaxy s phones. Start by making sure you know which one it is and just reading all the stickies threads. I don't have any experience with galaxy s phones though so I might not be much help but ill do what I can.

Dude,
Get an Gingerbread Stock version of Gingerbread (see www.sammobile.com) I recommend I9000_JVZ and download-it. then flash-it. You cand find step-by step how on this forum.
After you flash it you can flash wwith odin the proper version fot CF-Root from chain fire (it should be with the same extension _JVZ or _JVT, because it is working just fine).
If you do not fing them send me your mail and I wil upload them for you. All of them.
Can you email me? Looking for some more personalized help and I need yo get this done today. [email protected]
