I'm just curious as to what it is. I'd be really interested in an android tablet. I currently have an eris... which is pretty weak.
I've googled a lot but everything seems to be old or "rumored" so could someone help me out? I'd appreciate it.
What is it you want to know?
Sent from my HTC Desire
Specs, pricing, will it be google supported, full market place?
Oh and I'm also really curious to see if anyone has tried logmein to remote access their computers. I do it on my Eris but it's slow. I've seen it on the iPad and it's much better. How is it on the GTab?

Pricing isn't announced yet in most of the world.
For every other piece of infromation, why not just, eh, check the official website? I mean, have you even looked at Samsung's website? It lists all the specs for the device and few other details.
tl;dr: Price - dunno, not announced
"with Google" -experience - yes, if you mean GMail, Market and stuff.
Full Marketplace - Yes, it's a full phone and has all the capabilities as such, even market.
ps. Aside from the larger (and different) display, the Tab is essentially a Galaxy S.
Perfect thanks.
Does it Have an FM Radio Chip on it?

sorry but just to clarify this is a full phone but in tablet format?
so the inbuilt cell is capable of making GSM calls the same as say an iphone, NOT just able to use 3g connectivity for web as say a iPad?
wonder why the camera spec is so lame?

YES.
I'm sorry if I YET AGAIN sound angry or frustrated, it's not specifically you.
But don't you people ever think of yourselves and either read the official site or google around before asking questions? Yes, it's a full GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS phone. The official site lists all the bands the phone works on. (except I hear the USA version lacks the phone capabilities? but retains data/sms? I don't know.)

ICON AND LIVE PEACEFULLY.i am here to take all the tensions..Now hope i don't sound rude!...for more on this,read the forum rules..
yes.... i hae got it on saturday and i have made GSM calls also...
GSM calls and 3g video calls are extra features compared to ipad which will need a seperate micro sim and 3g contract and pay extra
when at home i use wifi for the tab and while on long journeys , put my existing contract sim and use it and will not miss calls too , the display is just awesome and so smooth........
i dont need to take seperate contract for stupid things

Ah, good. What I did mean about that was that the other specs are official, but that part I haven't read anywhere but "rumor" sites.
As of right now they make no note of voice calling on american advertising ... It will be in the hardware but not in the firmware (rom) but im sure If we got a copy of your guys roms (all other countries besides US..lol) we will have the voice feature.

I'm not really clued up on all this but wouldn't this be tied in with the hardware? And since the Tab has been announced in the states not having voice(and possibly sms) capabilities wouldn't that mean it was missing the hardware to do it?
If that isn't the case then it's awesome for the people in the states to potentially have that option

From the Sprint site: "Sprint Mobile Hotspot add-on required to access Wi-Fi on the device".
Does that mean if I want to use my home wifi to browse the internet on the phone, I can't unless I pony up $30.00 more for the Mobile Hotspot? I'm sure it can't be that way. No smartphone locks out wifi unless you buy a tethering plan. I use wifi all the time on my iphone as it's much faster than the 3g data network is.
http://now.sprint.com/evo/
It's in the fine print at the bottom.
Based on sprint's past phones you will be able to connect to your wifi network at home. You will not be able to connect your laptop with wifi tethering to the phone without the addon hot spot.
I believe it is referring to connecting other devices to the evo via wifi.
I think this is a case of reading too far into the words regardless if sprint was ever dumb enough to do it once we have root it wouldn't matter.
im not to worried about it... gonna be easy as **** to hack that feature in once root is attained
I fear that the OP may be correct; as the OP points out, it does state the following at the bottom of Sprint's webpage (emphasis added):
"Sprint Mobile Hotspot Add-on required to access wi-fi on device"
I am also concerned that Sprint may use this as an excuse not to update the EVO 4G to Froyo 2.2, because I believe Froyo 2.2 provides tethering and wifi hotspot capabilities built into the ROM.

HTC sense on the Hero (1.5) also included a wired tethering feature... sprint just had HTC disable it on their firmware... why wouldnt they do the same with the evo?
I've been under the impression that if you root your device in the future, there will likely be some type of hack that will allow you to use the mobile hotspot feature anyways, i don't think sprint or htc, unless they released some kind of update to stop this(which i'm sure you can stop this update from going through right?), you would be good to go...But, take what i say with a grain of salt because i'm new to this whole rooting ****, I've never personally owned a android handset either.

Once you root your device you can do whatever you want to it, once it's rooted only thing sprint has control over is what passes between your phone and them, data, calls, etc, not your device
I'm running android on a device that isn't even supposed to run android, and as far as sprint is concerned they think I still have WinMo 6.1 on this thing.
I asked my Sprint rep the other day when I was adjusting my plan. Wi-Fi will be "incoming only" and active on the EVO out of the box. If you want "outbound" (i.e. tethering, hotspot etc.) then you pony up the $30.

Yeah i don't know why people would think you would have to pay to be able to use a wifi network of your own(or someone elses), no one would ever charge for that, and i don't even think you possibly could without heavy HEAVY modification of android.
OMG! I'm also new to all of this... I have a few questions? They may have already been answered, pls excuse my ignorance on the matter. I have a Huawei Ascend M860 Android 2.1 (I think) I'm trying to get the mobile hotspot on it (BTW how do I do this?) but I'm afraid to do anything because I dont want to get caught paying more money or finding out that the insurance I'm paying extra won't be valid anymore? I want to know what happens if I "root" my phone will they find out I've done something to it? LOL. sorry every1 but I'm not trying to have 2 bills to pay by the end of the month if I can connect to the internet on my laptop by using my phone. Thnx.
How did everybody here get to know so much about these things. What did u study?

Well, I just learned that the US wifi images are A LOT different from Canada's. I actually crippled my Xoom temporarily because the US system.img files don't like the Canadian userdata partitions. Well, that is until the userdata partition is wiped.
I'm not going to say much. I'll let the pictures do the talking...

Companies do a lot of localization stuff. I also noticed (but couldn't capture) the setup screen for the US version only had English, French and Spanish, while the Canadian one seemed more international. It had a bunch of European languages, Korean, Chinese and maybe even Japanese.
Part of the reason they probably didn't give us this one was because we're not supposed to get Google Books up here or something.
Here are some screenshots of the language list options on the Canadian Xoom's.
You just beat me to that. I rotated them in landscape so I only needed 3 pics. I might as well post mine as well.
@Scourge1024,
Do you recall any differences when turning these on for the first time? For example, having to accept "Motoblur Terms and Conditions" on one but not the other. Your apps screenshot of the the Canadian version has a "Motoblur Services" app, but the US one doesn't.
This post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12944248&postcount=336 seems to show Motoblur services running on a UK version. Can you verify whether or not your US version has Motoblur services on it?
I have a Canadian version as well, but am looking for one without the Motoblur stuff on it.
XR.
I'm pretty sure I had to accept some Motorola terms and conditions every time I did wipe on my XOOM. At the very end of the initial setup. I can't take a snapshot of that as adb won't connect till after.
I wonder if the Canadian version is like the UK one?
I also ripped the stock apk files from both US and Canadian versions.

Are you sure? My name is Howard. Lol. Not the coolest name out there.
But I might be able to save you some trouble. I couldn't install it. I pushed "BooksTablet.apk" and "BooksTablet.odex" into my /system/app folder and I don't see it on my Xoom at all (after a reboot of course).

You seem to be right - it looks like they've done something to prevent these apps from working with the Canadian image. Sucks! Kindle doesn't have a nice widget and page turning animations like GB does.
I have been wondering why our neighbors to the north are not allowed Google books? Has anything been said officially?
If I had to guess I would say differences in copyright laws.
It'd be nice to have a hybrid of the two. With all the languages in the Canadian version and all the apps from the US one.
I really wish you could import epub files into the kindle app... looks nice and clean. The most stable reader after that seems to be Moon+
the canada screens look like how the UK wifi version was.
three booksmarks - very few apps installed
but without the dodgy wallpaper
Ya kinda sucks that the Canadian version doesn't the US version of google books. I've been trying for 2 days to find it until i found this thread that made me understand that it's impossible.
Hey guys,
The advantage of the canadian version is the languages. i have bought the US version and cannot get the German language and localization running.
Other than google books any reasons not to flash the canadian version on a us hardware? Or do you see any other chance to localize it?
Thanks hdtvpower

If you buy from the UK would you be able to set it up with an American account and get all the American apps? (Hulu, Pandora, etc.)

I ordered one, but if I can't plug in my USB Drive and watch mkvs/avi's I will definitly cancel my order and keep on using my 5 year old laptop...
Even more interesting is for me, if the us version can be converted to the european one.

I was also one of the naive people ordering a US Amazon Fire TV a while ago to try it out in Germany I never managed to get it working, even after using Unlocator and fiddling around with settings of my Amazon account. So, since then, it's basically sitting in my living room doing nothing.
I'm thus also interested in converting a US Fire TV to a German Fire TV.
Will the German Fire TV be running a different firmware than the US version? If yes, will it be possible to manually flash a German firmware onto a US device? It's not rooted or anything...
Like some others have mentioned, This will be interesting.
Got my FTV from the USA, Wondering if I will be able to "convert" it to a UK model so I can get the native service / apps.
I would go ahead and order one from the UK while it is on offer but cant afford to loose root
seems that in UK have same offer, but £49...
Not in Spain, France or Italy yet...
Got One Hope this will become a nice XBMC Box to replace my RasPi in my Bedroom, which is quite on its limit with my installed AddOns + TVHeadend.
Ok, So I decided to send them an email regarding the "region change" of the existing USA Fire TV's,
I asked for my message to be forwarded onto the relevant team involved with the Fire TV for a more appropriate response,
Take of this what you will but they have told me that it will be possible, First you will need to migrate your account, Any purchases made will also transfer, Then once the device has launched in your country, in this case the UK you then need to look out for a firmware update.
They say they will put it up on their help pages.
So that's good news, Sad that it will be a firmware update but not unexpected, Guess I will wait till the time comes and consider my options. At this stage I could not give up my root :laugh:

That's great to hear, I will for sure be keeping my eyes out for that :victory:
I'm working with Gear VR and had reason to ask the right questions to my contact at Samsung and here's what he had to say today about a firmware update that I need for development (but everyone will get), "I'm hearing the Verizon update is supposed to be available in the next few days or so"
Just thought I'd share since it's rare we have reliable, official announcement before the OTA's flow. To be clear, I don't know if this update will be Android L. I DO know that it will have the bits needed to support Gear VR on retail devices.
He's also working on getting me the ROM sooner, but I'm not sure if I will be allowed to distribute. Maybe others will be getting it early for the same reasons though so if you want a decent reason to hope....

We WILL get Gear VR support ( the whole point of this thread). Beyond that, I can't say and don't care much. If I was fixed on root or L, I wouldn't be running the Note 4 given how good Samsung is getting at locking the boot loader. In fact, If not for my VR development, I might have purchased my first Nexus device despite the lack of SD (or grabbed the G3).
By the way, why are people still spamming with "sent from my weAlreadyKnowAndDontCare using irrelevantAndAnnoyingApp"? That's so Outlook 2000

This is the first Android phone for me where I am not terribly concerned if I don't get an unlocked bootloader. Root would be nice but it's not a deal breaker for me. I am looking forward to Android L on this phone.
As for my Tapatalk signature, I rarely post in forums so I forgot the signature was even there! I more or less read forums these days.

Microsoft has stated that there is an issue with rolling back to WP 8.1 for the devices that came with an OS version greater than 8.10.15116.125 so they have blocked the ability to install the tech preview on these phones.
Now from what I saw most 640's , including mine , came with a newer build.
With no word from Microsoft on how long this will take to be sorted out I decided to find a way around it.
The idea is to flash this earlier build on your phone and then just use the Windows Insider app.
I managed to find on NaviFirm+ the exact OS that allows us to upgrade to WTP 10 :

Hi,
Not firmware version, but OS version ^^
Thanks for the heads up. Got used to call it the firmware even though it's incorrect.
Quick Question
I have the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL LTE Dual Sim (RM-1096) which apparently is a prototype for Honk Kong Only. Can I put the Global Rom for the RM-1065 on this phone to get the LTE portion to work on the phone in the united States?

What would you recommend I do? The phone stated that it supports LTE on all bands, but there is no option to select LTE, only 4G being the highest and the signal is awful. Ive tried everything.
Lte = 4G on windows phones
4g = H+

No.
LTE = 4G
4G = 4G
H+ = H+
H = 3G+
3G = 3G
E = E
Arguing about what is or is not 4G (or what it's called) is pretty pointless, because the carriers choose what to call it for branded phones, and the OEMs choose what to call it for open-market phones. There's a registry key that lists what text is displayed for each network type. I tweaked it, and no my phone never says "4G"; it'll say LTE, or H+, or just H, or various other 3G or 2G options. Check the registry edit threads for more info.
