So i bought and installed a FFC, (bought 2, installed both). the font was blurry but i fixed the focus. But the back camera is really bad compared to my old one. i even switched back to be sure. ive only tested at night indoors because its nighttime now, but the FFC version has lots of awful lines running up and down the screen when i look through the viewfinder, whereas the vibrant version is crystal clear. when i take a picture it comes out much better than what i see in the viewfinder but still a bit of the lines. anyone else have this issue? im running bionix1.8 i tested both cams on that and only the ffc version has this issue...

All I have to day is I sure am glad I didn't do the mod. In all the excitement almost nobody mentions this problem. I know I never saw it mentioned, and I read several walkthroughs explaining the mods and how to do it.

Dude, the ffc is much lower resolution than the rear camera, if you replace your rear camera (which is what it sounds like you did) it's a massive downgrade.

Just be patient and wait for the devs to get their hands on cameras.

I can 100% assure you ALL the cameras where extensively tested prior to shipping. I have been in contact with the CEO of Global for 2 weeks now. The issue with the quality of the pictures is believed to be in the kernal. the i9000 kernal differs greatly from the vibrant kernal. The devs are working on it and as soon as they have a solution im sure everyone will know! just be patient.
Yeah I read a good ten pages of threads and 2 hardware guides and a software guide and watched a hardware video all without a single mention of this.
After all your flaming I did dig a bit deeper and found it, but this is something that should be in caps at the top of every thread.....

This is Why I want a portable cam that could be plugged into the phone and use it as a FFC or as a portable camera head so I can look inside walls and take pictures with the phone as the capture device (would be awesome for my work). You might lose some functionality (like front facing camera) unless someone's willing to get it all worked out.
Remember, when CM got AOSP camera working, it took them a LONG time to get a lot of stuff working, so it would take a while, and possibly someone REALLY dedicated to working on this.

I was just curious about it, cause some people said that the camera on the evo is from the same company as the camera on the iphone and what makes the images look better is the software.
so i though about the software of the 8MP cam of the xperia (which i also heard that is pretty good) ported to the evo.
It would be nice if somebody get that tested.
The screens color is more defined than a EVO. Faster than just about any other Android device out. The keyboard rocks.
Magic maybe? Or is it the CM RC3 rom.

I think the speed iss probably attributable to cyanogen. And as far as color goes I seem to remember that the evo only supports like 65k colors or something.

It sure is. I had a Nexus and Evo before but the G2 is my favorite one so far. Only a couple things missing from it being perfect in my opinion. Front camera, 4.0" screen, and a little slimmer design. Besides that, I absolutely love this phone!

The camera needs a better zoom (possible fix in Gingerbread?), and there needs to be instructions on how to install either Debian or Ubuntu. Oh, and if you root, you can remove the bloatware from /system/app.
As I said in my post, not willing to root yet, I need to learn more. I very much enjoy my phone as it is for now. My N85 Nokia took incredible pix with a 5MP sensor, but the Zeiss optics made it superior, the HTC camera will never equal that with software enhancements.

HAHA I agree, only thing I would like is slimmer phone and I would love the camera app from the galaxy s and that music app (panorama images etc)
No camera with a lens aperture the size of a pinhole can do a good job of low-light photography. If your standards require more, you will need a better lens.

The front facing camera would be fun. I know it's not the best camera, but I appreciate what it does.
I'm very satisfied with this phone. I was dead set about getting a phone with a physical keyboard. I am now finding myself rarely using the physical keyboard. Rather I use Swype.
I came from the G1. In fact my son has it now. We are both loving the CyanogenMod 6.1.0!!! Life is good!

Same here I have used my physical keyboard once since I got the phone a few days after release, I swype everything
I love the G2! I had a Nexus One>iPhone 3G>iPhone 2G before it!
I do wish it had a 4" screen though.
G1, Mytouch, Nexus, Vibrant.. Are no where close to this G2.. The phone is blazing fast and im running Stock rom but rooted.. Its blazing.. Never froze up on me yet.. Its great only thing i can ask for is slimmer device thats it!

Yea its superamoled but wtf at the yellowish tint....why did they do this?? My Captivate looked better and this is one of the main selling points for me, is there anything we can do to get it back to the other color temperature? Seriously....

Wifi seems a bit slow, it started doing a restore off the bat and downloading all my apps from the inspire and even the background! wow! Thats pretty much it, Im satisfied but the screen tint is kinda leaving a bad taste in my mouth, the SuperLCD seemed more sharp and brighter then this and the whites were WHITE and the blacks werent too shabby either, dunno wtf is going on as the Screen on my old captivate was great and I loved it, this is eh...
Really hoping I didnt make the wrong choice here, the Xperia arc I had my eyes on and the only thing it didnt have was a FFC and I can live without it, beyond that I like the looks, bigger screen, lighter weight, on the arc better and sony unlocked the bootloader on their new devices so updates will come regardless, way better camera, I just dont know about this whole screen thing....

sensors problem. compass seems a bit off, and the best gps lock i've had is 10m error after about 60s. i stood outside and waited, no lock. resorted to downloading gps status and downloaded the additional gps data. this seems to be the only way it's locked on. compared to a desire, this is hella slow and crappy for gps.
camera quality, i think for a phone it's good enough. for the ffc, so it's vga, but at what resolution does skype mobile use? what's that? it's not working? oh well. i think vga is fine for video calls. anything else is just additional cost.
about to test with music and haven't put a sim in yet to test the phone.

if you're going to test sound, i highly recommend using netarchy's kernel (unsure if it works on a I9020A).. but basically put Voodoo Sound, it'll be highly worth it without question

You can do plenty of app development on a stock rom. Not all development is rom/kernel based

no, i don't have a tint at all - i have a 9020. and no tint. i manually upgraded to 2.3.2 - too scared to update to 2.3.3 yet. i don't have a sim in it, so the ota wasn't registering.
in terms of sound quality, it blows away my ipod touch 1st gen, but then again most of my older cheaper mp3 players do so that in itself isn't saying much! the dynamic range sounds a lot better on this than what was on the desire too.
but still haven't taken the stickers on the phone off yet. need a case!

Even tho the camera is average its pretty usefull non the less... I do love the camera tho... the sound is amazing and video looks pretty good even with a lil jitter.

I had just figured out there was a zoom, like months after getting it..
The stock camera was okay, but there has been a substantial performance boost in gingerbread 2.3.4. I just wish they had placed the exposure setting on screen instead of in the menu settings, it makes a huge difference in photo quality.

The video recording is pretty nice though.

I had a friend with a couple of birds and one was like the green one you have. He taught them to laugh with you, so it was awesome to go hang with a bird and just laugh..
I was really suprised at how awesome birds can be as pets.

Hi,
Since going to Sense gingerbread ROMs, my camera has been horrible in low light pictures. It seems like the flash is firing just a little bit too early. By the time the shutter opens, the flash has pretty much done its thing, and the picture comes out very dark. I have tried every single combination of Sense GB ROM and kernel that is currently available, and I get the same result with every single one. I have also tried all of the cameras available in the Market. I get the same poor results with every single one of them. The only way that I can get a decent low light picture is to flash back to a Froyo ROM, or over to an AOSP ROM. The pictures taken in any Froyo or AOSP ROM come out good and bright in all conditions. I think that there must be some sort of incompatibility with Gingerbread ROMs and the camera in my phone.
But of course just like every other thing with these phones, not everyone is having problems. But there are quite a few people that are. I've been trying to work out whether it is some sort of software issue, or hardware. We all know that there are four different hardware versions on the Evo. And from what I can determine, there are two different types of cameras in use. I started a little survey in one of the ROM threads in development. But I thought that I'd move it up here so that more people could see it and participate. I am hoping that if you know for sure that you are having the dark low light photos problem or if you know for sure that you're not having the problem that you could post information in this thread about the ROM you're running, your hardware version, the camera that you have in your phone, and whether you're having the problem or not. To determine the camera in use, do the following:
Using root explorer navigate to sys/ you will see android_camera and android_camera2. Android_camera is the rear camera. Go into that folder, hold over sensor until you see the options menu. Scroll down to View As Text and that opens the file with Camera brand and model number. Post that information to the thread, along with the other information requested above. I'll start:
ROM: Classic 0.0.4
Hardware: 0003
Camera: samsung S5K3HIGX 8M

To my understanding its software. Gb causes flash to work improperly causing overexposure dark pics etc...

Right. Not everyone on GB has the problem though. I am trying to find something that everyone with the problem has in common. It's not the camera itself. Maybe it's the camera and hardware combination. That's what I'm hoping to determine with this thread.
Tried everything you have tried above with no good results. Sprint store is a waste of time don't bother. I hope ICS makes things better.

Probably true, but I think that I'll give my Sprint store a try anyway. Who knows. They might be able to come up with something. Just wish I had more info to give them going in. You and I both have the same issues, but different cameras. The only similarity is the HW 0003.

I took it to two stores, one said my flash was going bad they replaced it so they say, but that wasn't it. Another store said my camera was loose they fixed that but still the same problem. This one rep was pissing me off because he was taking pictures in the bright ass store telling me my camera was fine when i clearly told him it happen at night or in low light places. And i told him to duplicate the problem he will need to go in a dark room or somewhere low lit but clearly they didn't do it. But you may have a different experience, good luck to you. please post what happens at your store.thx. Oh, also i wanted to tell them so badly about asop and froyo roms working but couldn't.

I plan on telling them about it working well on Froyo. I restored my nandroid from right after I rooted and took a few pictures. Then I went back to Classic and took the same pictures. The difference is huge. But yea, cannot mention AOSP at all.
Also, I'm not unrooting my phone. I installed the latest stock GB ROM. Hopefully they won't dig too deeply into that. I've had really good luck with this non-corporate Sprint store down the road. Hopefully my luck will continue today. Though I'm not exactly sure what I expect to get out of it. I mean I really don't think that the problem is fixable on the phone. But I'll feel better once I've exhausted all possible options.

Sounds like he was trying to avoid addressing your problem by making it look like a non problem. I'm guessing possibly in front of other people so it looked like you were just wining. If they can't replicate it, it must not be happening right?

The Sprint store guy admitted that he could see the issue. He had an older Evo around with Froyo on it and he compared and sure enough, there was a big difference. He said that the only thing he could really do would be to order a replacement, but that the replacement might have the same problem or some other problem. So at least he was honest with me.

Multiple threads on this topic, but posting here since this is the most recent.
First, the basics:
Evo 4G rooted
still running standard Sprint Rom (basic tweaks, nothing serious)
Camera Zoom FX 3.2.2
Yesterday I realized that I'm having this issue as well... pictures are certainly coming out darker than before. This isn't the first time it's occurred, but up until now didn't realize it was reoccurring thing. It's further exaggerated when shooting from a lower light area towards a brighter area (example: from inside a car of something outside). No big shock there.
I installed Camera Zoom a few months ago in hopes of increasing the quality of pics (over the stock camera app). Overall, it was very successful. However, for the most part I take pics indoors or under a decent amount of overhead/ambient light. Thus far, no problems. But it seems that the increase in pic quality with Camera Zoom has also brought an increase in darkness to these pics in certain situations. Not so good.
Will try to find an answer.
