I have been experimenting with video playback on the Tytyn, but am becoming disillusioned with the results!
I use PocketDivX Encoder 0.3.60, to convert using 2 pass xvid and b frames, and TCPMP, and the results were truly stunning on my old Kjam.
Whatever I try with the new Tytyn, does not even come close to the performance I was getting on my old device.
Does any one have any suggestions or recommend a successful encoding method that actually works on the Tytyn. I would like to hear from anyone who has managed to get a playback quality the same as the Kjam/Wizard i.e smooth video without loss of lipsync or jerky framerate.
Thanks
search for TYTN + TCPMP on this forum... this has been discussed A LOT.

Hi there & welcome to our videoplayback problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=354421#354421
It's not all bad, but I can't find any workaround for the meantime. Look out for The CorePlayer (The new TCPMP), hopefully when released, it will address these issues we have discovered. Meantime I am using 'ImToo_DVD 2 Ipod Converter' , which converts to high quality Mp4 format and plays back just fine for now and is definately on par with Divx/Xvid AVI encoding at 768kbps! It also converts a whole film in practically 20 mins plus compared to PocketDivx_Encoder or DVDx.
I have tried the Im too to ipod converter, and have had some very pleasing results.
Could you possibly let me know what settings you have checked/unchecked in TCPMP, for optimum playback of the resulting mp4 files?
Thank you very much, your help and advice is greatly appreciated.
Best regards
Pergolesi
yeah I had a good experience converting to mpeg4 except the filesize was much larger (almost twice the size as divx) is this the norm cause of divx compression?
MPEG4 Videos in TCPMP
Personally, I use the following settings for ImTOO DVD to iPod Converter:
Video Bit rate:512 or 768 (difference is negligable but size is better @ 512kbps)
Audio Bit Rate:64
Sample rate:22050
Channels:2
Video Size:320x240
Profile: iPod MPEG-4 Movie (*.mp4)
Zoom:Full (keep aspect ratio)
Split:Infinite (though it's nice to have a DVD encoded in the chapters it came in - TCPMP will play them in the correct order if saved as 'playlist')
**Do Check the Audio settings (under the Menu bar) as your DVD will probably have options for differnt Audio i.e English.
I know more settings are available, but this is a short-term fix for me (with acceptable results for me) until the new 'CorePlayer' is released.
In TCPMP the settings really don't make much of a difference either, but just make sure you have 'Video' set to 'Rawframebuffer' mode. I have found that all AVI and MP4 playback without major gripes, but the MP4 gets better results whilst benchmarking using 'ATI decoder'. Fat load of good that does you when it comes to playback though (back to rawframebuffer mode).
P.S. for smaller filesizes, just reduce the video bit rate like you would in AVI encoding.
MPEG4 Videos in TCPMP
Great info, I'm sure others will find this just as helpful as I have.
Thanks again.

In TCMP what is the best setting, GDI or RAWFRAMEBUFFER?
Im asking this because on my tytn i can use both of them without problems.

I use Rawframeuffer mode, but GDI will do also. Though benchmarking yields better results in Rawframebuffer mode for me.
I'm using TCPMP. I set ATI IMAGEON Decoder on.
When it start, the screen is not viewable.
But I press the action button, when the movie plays it is normal.
When I paused and resume, video play with low frame rate.
I goto Option, Speed, Select 100%, it's normal.
Hey there,
Since I get the best video experience playing back .mp4 in HTC album software. (so the same software it uses to playback on-device-recorded videos). But now there's no sound all of a sudden. I installed .net 3.5 recently could that be the issue? Anybody familiar with this?
hope to here from all of you soon!
It does work in coreplayer however. Though the overal playback is terrible here. Installing .net 3.5 didn't fix it.
Could it be some sort of codec issue? I think it's unlikely but still. The video recorded bij Touch HD is mp4 video and GSM 8800 or something like that for audio. With this file the audio isn't working, another mp4 file with AAC audio isn't working either in the HTC Album software. Both are mp4 .I264.
you get audio problems with the recorded mp4s only?
No also with converted mp4. These were xvid and Divx, then converted them to Ipod mp4 with winavi mp4 converter. This always worked like a charme. Now all of a suden it doesn't work anymore. the converted mp4's do have sound on mijn desktop plus recorded plus converted mp4's have sound in Coreplayer, so the files are not the problem i guess.
Mmm i don't think i've got the correct coreplayer. 0.72rc is not the most recent one? I read about v1.25 somewhere. How is mp4 playback with that. With my version it laggy plus pixelated. But 21 euros is bit to much for something i dont know will work. Anybody knows more about that?
So i called HTC Support, they suggested a Hard Reset. They said they never heard of the problem. I guess i'll be doing that then.
Same problem here :/
Have you done any tweak?
I've been using AdvancedConfig 3.3 in which, and have installed flashlite3.1.
I've been tweaking the AudioBooster with AC 3.3, while enabling 3D Sound and Bass. I've activated Prim_EQ_On on the registry to see what it does.
I have them all uninstalled (and 've restored default parameters in Advanced Config Before and in the registry) and the problem is still there. No audio on any mp4 which I can read with sound few days ago.
Cannot say exactly which modification did affect the sound codec in the album.
Also I've been looking in the registry and found that key :
HKLM\Software\HTC\StreamingDShow\DisableVolume (1)
Fixing it to 0 did not resolve anything.
I'm in the dark right now and think to hard reset
Did you do any tweak like I just quote? We could maybe find an explanation that way
anyone else finding the playback a little laggy on this???
What can be done on this settings wise???
I have installed the SDHC fix/tune.
Should i have installed the player to the device not the SD Card?
Thanks
Antony
I think TCPMP is completely useless on Blackstone.
It works for me, though I have to admit I encode the movies at 400x240 with DivX at 500kbps. Maybe at MPEG2 you can go higher.
Also, I noticed the GDI driver is very slow, Raw framebuffer is better.
Setting the video at 200% rather than any auto-zoom helped some
Setting 'slow video-memory' in the advanced settings helped a lot.
Still with all this a benchmark only goes to about 160~190%, so I would not try full 800x480 encoding. Its a bit of a pity, because not being able to just dump an AVI on the device and having to recode it first does take the usefulness a bit down.
Maybe we should buy coreplayer. I hear it has the hardware driver enabled.
I have heard that core player still has issues on the blackstone and that they will be resolved maybe in 2.0.... im thinking to wait....
hai- i have installed the coreplayer 1.32. everything is fine ^^
everthing? not even everything.- I tried to play WMV9 and there is no sound and blank screen. movie is playing... ???
whats wrong?
wmp is laggy ****. coreplayer dont lag but no WMV9?
Try this here (esp. posts #2 & 3): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=290176
Helped me with TCPMP, runs also with Core Player
I can not play youtube videos. I can search and browse through the categories, but when i want to play a video i get back to the starting screen.

Well I tried to open a dvx movie with tcpmp and I could not get anything but few purple lines.... and the pro2 freezed.
The same movie with the same tcpmp works perfecly on my old htc touch!
Any clue?

Same lag and stutters overhere. Any solutions out there allready?
Default mediaplayer suddenly stopped working on my TP2, though the quality was way better then the core player's. Too bad it doesn't work no more.
can anyone help with this after paying for core player it wont play anything with out stuttering along
everything used to lag for me in coreplayer, including videos but if i switch the audio settings to higher priority for mp3 files they play without a hitch. now if only i can find out how to do the same for videos
Add me to the list of VERY unsatisfied results with Coreplayer on the TP2... it absolutely SUCKS. BIG TIME. Laggy and crappy... how is a man suppose to watch all those great videos stuttering!
I had the same issue (laggy, ...) a couple of months ago. I sent an email to CorePlayer support and got this answer back :
"Hello,
This is a known issue and we are working with several people on trying to track it down and are hopeful to have it included with the next release. I can offer you a full refund if you would like.
Regards,
CoreCodec Support Group"
They expect to release the new version by the end of this month.
Just have to wait...
Hope it helps.
Are you using DirectShow? If not, try it.
Great on TP2
Coreplayer is running great on my TP2. Watched 2 movies today and the video looked great and frames were solid. Honestly its the best thing i did for my TP2 yet. I dont believe it will handle 800x480 but a little bit lower resolution should still be fine and the video scales very well. Check this review on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uONMuEeTo7A&feature=related
Watch near the end when he shows how Coreplayer runs.
REFUND!!!
So I just sent my refund request for Coreplayer. It has a bug with Tv-Out causing it to show a blue flicker. Also it has no real hardware support yet. The best thing I found was the Touch HD gui encoder program. It puts your videos into formats the built in players can use and those do have hardware support. So while coreplayer is a great app its not for the TP2.
Disable DirectDraw in TCPMP. Use GDI mode.
I am not sure if the following has any effect when DirectDraw is disabled, but this is the way I have it:
Select Options\Settings, then click on "Select page" and select DirectDraw.
You will see three options. Only select the one that says "use blitting instead of overlay"
This worked for me...
I am trying to play downloaded DVD movies on my Rhodium and i presume its using Windows Media, the playback is sluggish and the sound is not in sync with the playback, is this the best i can expect after spending £500 or is it just that i need another media player? Shooting video and playing back seems fine the problem is when i convert a DVD the playback is pretty appalling, ANY HELP FROM ANYONE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

What format are the movies you're downloading? What are you using to convert them? Are the downloaded movies in sync? How about the converted ones? If you play them on your PC, are they synced up?
Check the resolution of the movie. Make sure it is 640x480. You don;t want to have the CPU doing all the resizing as the movie is being played. Some format may be better than the others too. And try with WMP. I believe it has hardware acceleration built-in.
Still I would love the phone be able to play HD 720p videos natively. Maybe one day.

amen! lol anyways ya you just arent formating the dvd'rips very well then cause i have a few full dvd's playing in perfect quality and timing on WMP and that's not even the best player to use
Use core player, it works fine with most videos (far better than the standard app)

try VIO Video Converter for your DVD conversions and select full quality. The file sizes are large but the quality and audio/video sync is superb.
Core Player is great and I consider 640x384 to be the optimal resolution for playback. Get a good video encoder and experiment for yourself though.
Use Super C to resize the video and then coreplayer to play it, no problems at all!
I can play 800x480 AVC @1.2Mbit/s through HTC Media Player smoothly. In Coreplayer I can't even get 1 FPS out of that file. I use MEGUI with the Zune settings to convert the video from a Bluray format.
As far as I can see, there isn't a good option right now, unless someone can say/prove otherwise.
For example: I have an AVI encoded with Divx 5 636*346, avg bitrtate 900, mp3 stereo. I can get this to play smoothly on much older hardware (a Palm TX), without conversion, via TCMPC.
So, WHY can't I find a player that works smoothly on the TP2?
I've read that the TP2 can handle avg bitrates up to 1,400 kbps; and it doesn't make sense to re-encode at a screen res lower than the bloody device.
Does anyone have any thoughts?

What I don't understand is that Coreplayer on my device has a verry low FPS. BUT when selecting the Benchmark function, the movie will play beautiful... (Only the movie and sound synchronisation is not so best...)
Anybody a working solution? On a different forum, i've read that HTC Album has the best hardware acceleration. They adviced to play movies with thc album (In the mp4 format)

It come on the device. HTC Album
i just can't imagine that there is no possibility to play normal divx/avi movies on my tp2 .. just like on pc.
i don't want to waste my time converting all videos just to watch it on tp2 ..
same prob with subtitle support .. can't be that difficult ?! only tcpmp can play them with an extension .. (and that video playback isn't smooth!)
http://kinoma.com/
give that a try and let us know if you are happy or not please
kinoma doesn't support divx/xvid
i use a free program called handbrake and my settings are 480x320,mpeg4,480 biterate-Audio,AAC 160 biterate. i actually used these settings on my G1 originally but when i got my TP2 i tried a few of the movies out since they wur already on my memory card and they all play and sound great on the default player.
im using coreplayer and ive not had a problem playing any movie downloaded from the net. anything from 700mb to 1.6mb dvd rips, ive watched probably 60 odd and they've all played perfectly. never had to convert anything.
coreplayer is definetely the best thing to get supports pretty much everything
i only use the album player for converted hd content (using the converter someone made on this site) = that plays excellent as well, and looks better (i might be ight in thinking album uses hardward acceleration as well)

Change "Video Output" to GDI if the player is choppy/crappy. On my Telus (CDMA) Touch Pro 2 the QTv Display works fine but I know other HTC devices have required GDI instead.
The playback on this phone sucks big time! Not sure what it is .... coreplayer GDI does not work and Tcpmp with all kinds of tweaks settings does not play videos smooth at all. You can tell there are frame skipping in my phone. My wing plays videos better than this. GEEZ!!!!!
