First problem:
A few days ago i changed my gmail PW. Now the android features on my phone don't work. When I'm prompted to enter my PW, i get a network connection error message. I've tried 'force stopping' the gmail, and google apps, turning 3g on/off, without any luck. Toying with this issue has been testing my patience. I'm hoping to find a solution before i perform a hard reset.
Second problem:
I've had the phone for over a year running 2.2.X CM6.X. Since 2.3.X released, I wanted to manually update to gingerbread but i keep getting the 'error 7' code. I've looked around on the forums for solutions: reverting to an unmodified build followed by 'update.zip'
Specs:
Android version 2.2.1
Baseband 32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04
Kernal Version 2.6.35.9-cyanogenmod
Mod Version: Cyanogenmod-6.1.1-N1
Build: FRG83D
The phone is rooted and bootloader is unlocked. I'm a noob with the android.

Go to Settings > Accounts & Sync Settings
Tap on your Gmail account
You will see a 'Remove Account' button - Hit that
Your phone should now have no account associated with it
Do a reboot (not really necessary though)
Back in the Accounts & Sync Settings, Add a gmail account by hitting 'Add account' button
That should take care of Problem #1
Problem #2:
Get the zip from the OTA here
Boot into recovery and do a Nandroid backup
Wipe Data + everything
Wipe again
Flash the OTA ZIP you downloaded
Reboot into phone
Once rebooted, setup your Google account again
You should be back in business

1. I don't have gmail as a separate item under sync. i use the default email client for both yahoo/gmail. When i try to remove my gmail account, it says i can only get rid of it by restoring to factory default.
2. I'm not sure where the issue is but even after i did a hard reset i can't login with my google account (the one i changed my PW to) nor the new account i made to verify if the issue is with my phone or accounts. Let's say i manage to update the to Gingerbread, won't i still have the same issue logging into my G account?
1. If you say you do not have a separate Gmail account on the list, that means your phone is not really connected to Google (in it's real sense) - So forcibly closing Gmail and the other Gapps won't really have any effect. (I'm assuming when you have a data connection, your EDGE/3G/WIFI icons do not really turn green from the regular white.
When you first configure your phone, you should ideally configure your gmail account first (so you get access to Market and the other stuff as well). You can then disable Sync on Gmail and add 2 accounts in the default mail app to send/recv email.
Do a Nandroid and get rid of all the accounts (may do a factory reset)
Start with adding a google account and you should be set.
2. You will not have that problem unless you Wipe your data via recovery. All that will happen is you will start fresh with adding your primary Google account

so far i've tried the following (without success):
- removing all accounts from sync list (except the main google account which i can't remove unless i do a factory restor).
- toggle 3g/2g
- logging in with a new google account
- attempt to login via Wi-fi without SD card and/or sim card
- trying old passwords (i thought i might have been entering the wrong PW, but i verified by logging into my gmail account; i'm sane)
- holding my breath and crossing my fingers
- performing a wipe of the phone memory (still can't login with either new or old google account).
Logging into youtube (linked google account) won't work b/c im in china. Initially i thought the hiccup would be due to china's great wall, but i've used this phone here for 8 months and changed my google PW successfully in within. I'm truly at a loss.
I'm still getting emails via default email program (yahoo/gmail accounts).
The internet works
Whatsapp works
And most importantly angry birds still works.
Maybe if i can find a way to update to Gingerbread, this issue will miraculously disappear.
Hi.
Did you try removing the Email app from the Device Administrators?
Maybe that's the reason why you are unable to un-link your Gmail account
Settings > Location and Security > Device Administrators
Uncheck the Email app (screenshot) and try

i don't have the option for my email under device admin list :/
the really odd thing is, i can't log in to my TF101 either...even after restoring back to factory settings. I'm convinced its either Google or China that's punishing me.
Well, with you wanting to update, are you wanting to update to a stock Gingerbread version, or to CyanogenMod's Gingerbread version?
If it is the latter, just go download the latest version 7.1.0. The best way to upgrade is to backup all your apps and app data with an app like Titanium Backup. Then perform a nandroid backup (basically a snapshot of your current system) and wipe the /system partition and perform a Factory Reset/Data Wipe. Then install CM7 and the latest gapps (found from http://goo-inside.me/gapps) and reboot the phone. Once you are in, try to add your google account back to the phone (hopefully it works with a completely blank slate). Then connect to the market and get Titanium Backup back and restore all your apps and app data.
I'm not sure if it's a default security feature from google, but 24 hours after i changed my password and it let me login to my account again...However i'm having issues logging into Gtalk.
Thanks for all your help. Now let's see if i can get it running Gingerbread!
Disclaimer: I do not recommend trying this. This is just me documenting a bad idea, mostly to get my post count up so I can start contributing to Pawit's ICS thread.
Purpose:
Document installing Pawitp's ICS release 10 over Cyanogen nightly 181 WITHOUT a wipe. Mostly just to avoid reinstalling all my apps, SMS's etc.. and to see how badly this could go.
Background:
I have been using Pawitp's ICS since the first release and upgrading with each new release. Sometimes with a full wipe, sometimes not. I was on a stable version 9 when 10 was released so i installed V10 and had a very good experience with it. I was not having any FC's, superuser was working and generally everything worked well except the browser was extremely laggy. So on a slow Sunday afternoon I thought I'd do a full wipe and reinstall V10 to see how the browser worked like that. After the factory restore and reinstall I started getting FC's and my superuser was not functioning. I played with it for a bit but eventually wound up restoring a backup of Cyanogen nightly 181 as I needed my phone working again at that time.
What I've done so far:
From Cyanogen nightly 181 I rebooted into CWM recovery, chose "install .zip from SD card", and installed Pawitp's V10. Then I installed gapps v5.3. Then rebooted the phone. (As mentioned, I did not wipe anything, not even the cache.)
The phone rebooted with 2 issues:
1) The process android.process.media FC's a lot, then eventually stops
2) The clock process FC's occasionally.
I rebooted to recovery, cleared the cache and restarted and still have the above problems. (I will work on these shortly, for now I want to see what all works.)
What is working:
1) All apps are still installed
2) Tried google earth and it still functions
3) Wifi still works and all connections are still remembered
4) Gmail upgraded and works.
5) Bluetooth turns on. I don't have any devices to test connecting to but my previous pairings are still listed.
6) Mobile Data turned off. (This is a documented bug in V10)
7) All settings work except going into sounds causes more media server FC's. It looks like this is maybe caused by my sounds being set to Cyanogen sounds that no longer exist?
8) In Accounts -> Sync, setting the browser to sync caused the error "sync is currently experiencing problems"
9) SU apps are still allowed SU rights.
10) UI still seems smooth like butter.
11) Receiving SMS worked and a sound played (and vibrated) but caused the media server crash. SMS's were kept from Cyanogen install.
12) Notification lights work (menu and back buttons light when receiving text etc.)
13) GTalk -When logging in I get the media server crash, then gtalk closes.
Now to work on the clock and media server FC's. If I figure out how to work those out I'll come back and post. If you want to know if anything works that I haven't listed let me know. If you have any thoughts on the android.process.media please let me know. (I've already cleared the cache in CWM, force stopped the media process and cleared its cache.)
Edit 1:
Clock FC fixed by finding the clock in Manage Apps, force stopping it, then clearing its data. This also deleted my alarms.
Edit 2:
Added bookmark widget and selected to sync with my gmail account. This activated browser sync in my Accounts and Sync settings suffessfully.
Edit 3:
All done with no happy ending. Talk was working but no longer opens. Calendar sync is not functioning. Market is unable to download files due to an error. Gallery works but FC's when exiting. And I never could get the media scanner errors to stop. Oh well it was fun while it lasted.
Even Before I start, I will concede that there might much better and easier method. But this is the working method I found after reading over XDA, Internet and CM bug tracker.
I was on a rooted stock rom from quite sometime (Thanks to Dr.Ketan) and was enjoying whatever limited mods available for Stock odexed rooted ICS roms + changing kernels (obviously between Speedmod & Notecore).
A post by G.Lawene that he may develop an universal kernel which works on stock, AOSP, AOKP and CM9 excited me.
Also I was jeaolous of the homescreen, themes that other deodexed rom users post on various threads.
This mad me to plunge into flashing AOKP, Paranoid, CM9 over last 2 days.
I use my phone primarily to sync my corporate mail and rest to enjoy all those possibilities of Android
So major setback for me in the above custome roms was connectivity to my exchange server.
Most of the corporate exchange servers force polices such as :
Install and connect an MDM (Mobile Device Management) which check for root , becomes a device adminstrator.
The sync when connects makes your corporate as another device admin and forces password policies (no swipe, face unlock) etc ,,,,
The above options used to work on rooted stock roms. basically once connected mails keep syncing, while MDM keeps saying diconnected due to policy issues. Workaround was i used to temp-unroot (disable) in SuperSU.
But in AOKP Zenprise connected while my corporate account never.
In Paranoid Zenprise did not connect even after disabling the root in developer settings.
Same was with CM9 nightlies.
At this point i mived back to stock, but I had tasted the blood (viz CM/AOKP).
I was desperate and was searching entire night over web on how to connect on CM9. Few lucky once are able to connect without any issues, few after using running scripts terminal emulator to remove superuser and su. But not me, nothing worked.
Then I raised questions in many threads asking a workaround or is there a root and unroot zips to be flashed on CM9.
Finally in XDA and CM logs i got to know that there are 2 apps which may help.
1) Voodo OTA rootkeeper (an app developed to root/unroot on stock rooms to update over OTA.
2) Touchdown: Its a standalone appa which acts as an exchange accounts accepts all the security policies and syncs with microsft exchange.
I installed Paranoid rom. made all UI customizations with root. Installed OTA rootkeeper, stored the root setting and clicked temp unroot.
Later I also disabled root in developer settings and installed and connected MDM (zenprise in my case). Voila it connected nd activated itself as device administrator.
Now came the anxious part. Downloaded trial version of Touchdown, went ahead with set-up. To my surprise, it asked to set-up a pin to this app alone and once done, completely synced with my corporate exchange (mails, contacts, tasks, calenders, notes).
In accounts and sync it shows as touchdown account and i can sync contacts into my phone contacts. Touch(wood)down everything working fine.

Were you able to re-root after doing this? And were you able to no longer have Zenprise consistently run in the background? I want to do this, but I also want to be able to re-root my phone.
to save battery set it to push, its better then synch every few minutes
also keep eye out for issues such as wakelocks, often therd party apps have issues with certain fields like birthday, keeping hitting on errors and keeping device awake, lol
After doing all of these:
*delete all account
*cleared playstore, google services, framework cache and data
*disabling and force stop this 3
*full clean restore(after performing this, I can download all my and new apps, but when update comes and try to install it, it gives me 489 error also)
still having this annoying 489 error even I did the steps above specially on updating apps because "sometimes" downloading new app is possible without error and sometimes it does 489 error.
I have 3 gmail accounts on my G2. When I tried downloading on my account 'A' and it gives me 489 error, I switched to my account 'B' and it will download it, and when I tried to switch again on my account 'A' then tried to download new app, it will work. But this only happens rarely because most of the time it gives me 489 error.
I have one solution to download new updates, and that is uninstalling the app and installing it which is really annoying and tiring to do specially when there is 5+ apps that have new versions and like I said, sometimes downloading app is not working it gives me this hilarious 489 error.
Last time, I really want to hammer this phone, but I think my G2 has nothing to do with my problem, it is the play store.
Btw I have:
G2 D80220B KK
Dori Kernel
xposed
Titanium backed up apps(i don't think this is the problem, because my last restore of these apps is since March 2014 and all installs and updates are working fine until last week)
blocked apps by titanium
*fused location
*google search
*location services
*smart screen
*smartshare push
*smartshare.beam
*street view
*tags
*talkback
*voice mate
I hope someone can help me here. Or is it possible to install new google play APK from others phone that don't have this problem? Really need some help here.
Thanks
Hopefully this can help some people who don't want to use custom recovery or need root.
My MIX came with a vendor rom from gearbest "Global" 8.0.8.0.0 Stable. I was able to figure out that the bootloader was unlocked through the fastboot method. The vendor ROM didn't have the MIUnlock status within the developer options. I requested for unlock before I knew about the fastboot method. The updater app wouldn't work, no matter which app ROM from xiaomi I downloaded. It would always give me the cannot verify error. But I finally was able to flash to the Dev Rom (no eu) weekly build and then add gapps to it. None of this required twrp or rooting. So here are my steps that I went through. Yes there is Chinese bloatware, but many you can uninstall.
1. Make sure it's unlocked. I used the fastboot option via command prompt. I used this.
2. download XiaomiFlash (old version) here. The newest version kept giving me a Specified cast is invalid problem. you can read about it here
3. Download latest fastboot update Developer ROM.
4. Follow steps 4 through 6 on this webpage here. Make sure you decompress the .tgz file.
My vendor ROM had the Playstore access. But after the update, it was giving me a server error. So I installed the following apps in this order to get it working again. If at some point the install fails, then uninstall the app first and reinstall.
1. Install Google Services Framework 6.0.1
2. Install Google Play Services
3. Install Google Account Manager
4. Install Google Play Store
Reboot and you should have access to the google apps and start downloading other google apps. I then also started uninstalling all of the chinese apps that I couldn't read/understand.
If this is not new, then let this thread die. If this works for you. awesome.
Things that I still can't get to work
1. Android Pay
2. Google Play Movies still says this device is not supported.
3. Can't sync with google contacts
Update I haven't tested this, but you can try it on the Dev or the Stable
http://en.miui.com/thread-294362-1-1.html
@Thorin78
A well put together resource is always welcome.
I think I have an answer/solution for some of your ongoing issues:
1) Android Pay not working:
The unlocked bootloader is probably the reason it's not working.I wouldn't recommend relocking it unless you're on an official Xiaomi ROM.
2) Cannot add new contacts:
I've run into that as well. For now, I'm just adding them on my PC via G-Mail (new contacts).Next time you sync on your phone & you should see the new contacts.
3) Google Play Movies issues may be a location issue. If the phone/Google settings isn't allowing for the exact area/country location where you are/Google Play Movies is official, then that may be the problem.
Loading one of the other ROMs may solve this.
These issues may possibly be solved utilizing root apps/Xposed/etc..... IDK,but,if one is savvy enough to unlock the bootloader/Root/ROM/install Xposed framework & modules, then they can likely find those solutions w/o any assistance.

Thanks @KOLIOSIS, I'm not as concerned w/ #1 and #3 so much. But now I can't get contacts to even sync or show up. It's quite weird. It's not part of the sync procedure.
I do agree, if people are already savvy enough to go through the entire process w/ twrp, they probably are better off w/ that procedure.
Anyways, if this isn't working for others either, hope it's made them more comfortable going the next step of twrp.

For whatever reason,(Google) contacts isn't automatically updating/syncing on the MIX.
Until there's a fix, you'll have to go to SETTINGS > ACCOUNTS > OTHER ACCOUNTS > GOOGLE
Tap on the affected Google account & tap CONTACTS.
Here's where part of the bug lies,as when doing so,the sync is turned off instead of syncing. Simply turn it back on & your contacts should update/match whatever you have on your desktop PC.

OK,now we're getting somewhere:
I've been running the EU ROM 6.12.xx & as of a couple days ago,the GlobeROM 6.12.22 (which looks identical to me) & have/had (Google) contacts on both.
Kinda odd, never seen contacts sync missing with any mfg/phone ROM I've run in the past & that list includes Huawei/OPPO/OnePlus & the typical better known mfgs most are familiar with.
Perhaps loading the Google Contacts app from the Google Play Store will kick it into gear...........................................

Ya, I've been searching on xiaomi forums too. Newp. I've uninstalled Google contacts, reinstalled google contacts (tho play store says it's incompatible).
Removed my google account, installed google contacts, google contacts sync and readded my google account through google contacts and still newp.
Everytime I start a google app, there's a new line added for Sync, but not for contacts.

Sounds like you've done your homework,IDK what else to suggest regarding contacts/syncing.
The only thing I can recommend is using the Nuclear Option & switching to either the EU ROM 6.12.xx (weekly) or the GlobeROM 6.12.xx
Oh this is the Xiaomi Dev GlobeROm.
But ya, EU ROM soon if I can't get this working. It's also interesting that I got root via the Permissions options in the settings.
I think someone fixed it from Xiaomi. Check here. You can download the apk, I haven't yet.

To get the google contacts working, you need to assigned all permission to it first then remove and add your google account again.

I had the same problem on my MIX. The 1st time I saved my contacts on another device as a .vcf file, and imported it from the MIX's contacts menu. Suddenly contacts appeared under Google account along with everything else.
The second time I just downloaded and installed this version of google contants sync http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-contacts-sync/google-contacts-sync-4-0-4-488656-release/google-contacts-sync-4-0-4-488656-android-apk-download/, and again contacts appeared and synced.
Try and let us know.
