Turn on debug mode. Kies first then debug otherwise Kies will turn debug off.

I have tried everything. I would like to wipe the phone so I want to use the samsung or odin software to install. I have looked at all the other galaxy forums and others have had the same trouble. Does this just happen to a few users, or phones? I have tried different ports, computers, drivers and I'm at a loss. If I have the phone in regular mode like when I use pdanet, odin will see it, but as soon as I take the battery out and put it in download mode.....i get that damn error like I don't have a driver. Has anyone been able to work through this with the Epic?
Are you saying you can't use odin in dl mode?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Yes that's right. Sorry if it didn't make sense. I'm so frustrated right now.
Are you putting the phone into download mode and have Odin running before connecting the phone to the computer?
I ask only because I know if you have the phone plugged in before doing those things, it won't see the phone at all.

I have tried it several ways. It doesn't matter. Once the phone is in download mode, the computer doesn't see it or doesn't recognize that I have a driver installed. It is like once in download mode, something internal in the phone changes in order for the driver to not function right.
Could you fix this problem? I have the same issue
Is this is the first time you've put it in dl mode? did you let the drivers install?
The computer doesn't use drivers when the phone is in download mode.... it just recognizes that there's some kind of phone connected and seeks out which com port its in then just transfers files to the device through a universal program like odin or qpst... I know this is a few months late but I hope it pays forward in some way if people will ever learn to search first...

I've had this same problem. But the simple solution is to go buy or use someones blackberry torch charger or the charger that's similar to it. Fixes the problem 99.9% of the time.

I don't believe that is true because Odin only recognizes my phone in the USB port I used to originally install the drivers. If I reinstall the Samsung drivers in another port, then Odin recognizes it there as well.
It does require drivers, its a diff subset of drivers than normal mode, just modem and composite but it does require drivers...

its not possible to use odin without installing the samsung modem driver... so either somehow it got installed without your knowledge or you forgot...
Heh, I remember all the work I had to go through with getting the correct drivers. What I had to do was go in my Device Manager, click on my phone, then hit update drivers and change the drivers to the Samsung one. I had to do this like 4 times, and sometimes the update takes a while. After that, you should be good.

Most important now is to get your PC recognised.
How?
Uninstalling the drivers by going to your device manager.
Deleting your device from the device manager and re-inserting your phone to the PC. See if you get the same unrecognized device.
Try doing it in different combination. Try what gbohm had suggested using another PC and installing the drivers.
You got to keep on trying. Only when you get back into working condition then we talk about the root cause, ok?
Let us know.

You are getting me confused. You said in the op that you can only go to download mode but your com cannot recognised your phone.
But now it looks like you can boot up your phone and the problem is the icon refused to go off until you reset the phone.
Connect your phone to pc under download mode and launch odin. Did you see odin have a small yellow highlighted box @ the ID:COM?
If yellow it means you can reflash your rom.
Sent from my GT-I9000
i can reboot my phone with cwm or usb plug into phone with power supply. if i on my phone without power supply it will goes to download mode.
odin won't recognize my phone otherwise i would have go back to stock rom and send it back for warranty. i am stuck cos its rooted and on written rom which would void warranty.
this is my biggest problem while it still normal but i can't use it an external storage when hook on usb to my computer.
thanks guys and my case is rather unique which i can't find anyone having this problem posted on xda forum.

Do this:
When your phone is in dowload mode (so when you see the green android logo) disconnect all cables.
Open odin on your pc.
Now connect your phone to your pc.
Now tell us what you see in odin.

It could be bad download mode. Try the hard reset button on back of the phone. You see it between camera and speaker, try pressing it same time you press download mode combo. I take no credits of this method, Yovi found it and you should thank him if it works.

So I can't connect my phone to any Windows PC as it says: USB device not recognized.
I tried Samsung drivers for Galaxy S phones and for the Epic 4G from three different locations and Samsung Kies and I still can't the connection to my SD card to work.
Also Odin will not recognize the phone at all either on any PC.
That is fine I can still download things on my phone with Wireless Transfer Pro application, but how can I flash the modem or install CWM without any direct connection to the phone?
Right now I'm running CWM 2.5. I want to put 3.0.25 on it and then flash the ee03 baseband and then reinstall a ee03 ROM since the one I'm currently using is being flaky.

Yeah my windows firewall is off and antivirus (windows security essentials) process is gone.
I just need to know where to get the correct drivers so Odin will work. I do the 1+power key to get to the yellow logo screen but it won't detect the phone.
I already uninstalled anything samsung usb related in my add/remove programs.

Ok i'll try those. And yeah, I uninstalled everything from device manager and add/remove programs that relates to the phone.
So I installed those drivers, restarted my computer, turned off my phone and then pressed 1 + power to get to "Downloading... Do not turn off Target!!!!" screen, loaded up Odin, and plugged my micro USB cable in to phone and computer and it still gives the the error "USB device not recognized"
The cable used still charges my phone, do you think its a bad cable?

1. if you're using the factory Samsung cable, toss it and get a good cable.
2. If you still can't get any of the drivers to install or work properly (I couldn't either, I'm running Win7 Ultimate 64 bit).. find and install PDAnet. Select Samsung, follow all instructions carefully during install. You can un-install it when you're done but this was the method that involved the least drinking to accomplish for me.
If this helps (or any members suggestion for that matter) remember to hit the thanks button.
Thanks guys. It turned out the original Samsung cable was bad. It could still charge but for whatever reason it could not connect to the phone's SD card over USB.

I've recently rooted and installed the VillainROM 2.0 on my SGS2.
Since then, my device isn't discoverable by any PC as a USB mass storage device. It wont' be recognized by Kies as well.
What can I do?
Please help
Edit: After rebooting it 3 times, I've managed to get it working properly.
But for some reason, it's not like before.
When I plug in the USB, in the notifications tray, a "USB mass storage" notification appears. It tells me that I need to turn it on and then off when I want to(by safely disconnecting it from my PC).
Is that normal?
Does the mount screen show when connecting?
For kies to recognize the phone make sure usb debugging is off.

After turning off "USB debugging" what I wrote in the "edit" in the original post didn't happen.
This is weird, it started working after 2 days of not working.....
Anyways, as long as it works I guess I don't have a problem. Hope this won't happen again....
I have quite similar problem. I am using LeoMar75 2.1 Revolution Rom and Ninphetamin+DesignGear kernel. My PC recognizes my phone but it cant connect with Kies. Same was when I was on Cognition 1.13 but on VillainRom 2.0 it works and connects with Kies.
Does anyon know what should be the problem?
Thanks.
Either usb debugging is on or the kies software on the phone side is removed.

My usb debugging is off and I have Kies on my phone and PC. The Adroid market is working fine but when I connect my SGS2 with usb cable to PC it says:
"Current connection mode not supported by Kies."
Any idea?
Is it possible that it is because of custom kernel?
