Check this article out... it has information on the methods used to hack bluetooth enabled devices.
The easiest way to avoid this is 1) Turn your BT off if/when you're not using it 2) Set your device to "Not Discoverable by other devices." 3) Smash your friends PDA to bits...J/K
Even so, those clever hackers always seem to find a way around an obstacle, if they didn't we wouldn't have the useful wealth of information found on this website... Not all of em are bad.

he keeps it locked and hidden from eyes sight. like its some massive secret
Ok I am not an expert on this but while various bluetooth attacks may allow access to phone records an such (particularly on older phones) non of them should allow complete browsing of the file system an a brand new WM5 device. Your device is a TyTN equivalent correct?
I think what has happened is that at some point your friend had a chance to pare the two devices so now he has complete access. Check your bluetooth settings and delete any devices listed there. Also delete any incoming ports and uncheck 'make device discoverable'. This should solve your problem. (If not I would very much like to hear about the technique used - out of sheer scientific curiosity of course)
And by the way, if he does this to you more that once to prove that he can, he is not much of a friend...

Not exactly sure what you mean by this.
What I was trying to say is that a friend might do it once or twice to show off his knowledge and not keep bugging you.
Levenum, I was trying to make a delicate joke about anal sex.
No offence meant!
V
Non taken, my brain is just a bit underclocked at the moment, its been along day.
Any way I am waiting for someone to jump in and tell me that i am not up to date and there is a way to hack in to any WM5 device by BT without users consent and get full control of file system.
V.
I am offended.... but only as I did not get it.... Oh forget it, get it?

yeah its an mda vario 2.have taken device off discoverable. that's sorted it. would like to know how he's able to do this for to satisfy my own curiosity of course
its a pipe dream give it up.
BT "hacking" will never be anything more than an urban myth, sure there is some cool apps available with a snarfing button that will show some cool CIDs but geezee anything can do that
tried to look for this answer, but i couldn't

I've tried 'Webcamera Plus' from Ateksoft to try out the security cam functionality and it seems to work quite well, not sure how good it is with MSN e.t.c, but there is a demo available.

There are a few threads here on it too.

thanks for the reply digital.diablo, but correct me if i am wrong, it appears that the webcam plus software transforms the camera function on ur phone (such as the htc x7500) into a webcam that can use for your PC, and not a webcam that can be used of the phone it self to have a live video conference.
is that right? if so, any other ideas?
thanx
Ahh, sorry, misunderstood what you were after. Yeah, Webcamplus is simply a way of using the onboard camera in your gadget as a webcam, so you could use it to video conference from your pc.
Not sure about your conferencing from the PDA though I'm afraid. Good luck on your quest!

i'll think about it. i doubt my friends would be interested to install a new software just so i can use my video viewers. maybe there is a messenger service that connects to all messenger services and has the software support to video calls.
if anyone knows of such a software do share the info
Theres a New facebook panel available; from what i have seen, its only on the US SE site at the moment, but im sure it will be in the uk one soon - for now - have a link:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/download...okPanel_X1.cab
Also changed the language site, I can't download.
Can you post the cab please?
Thanx!

wow, that panel is simply awesome! so nicely designed! this must be ported to other WVGA devices!
can we get some screen shots and a quick review - i dont have my X1 with me right now so i would like to know what to expect?

Some screens
It's AWESOMEEEEEE!!!!!
it's really good (although a bit slow at the start, but then I do have nearly 500 friends).
allows you to upload photos and call contacts.
very nice looking panel, works great, now u can upload photos as well...
Just installed this as well and I love it. I have tested it on my WiFi connection, and it _could_ be a little faster for pulling the data down, but still, it's nice to finally see some new panels for the X1. I really like the photo upload feature too, super simple.
On a side note, I am running Wisbar Advance 3 + WAD 2 on my X1, and I find that after the device has been on for a while (without soft-resetting), my Panel key will not launch the panelmanager. It seems to do something, but then quits back to the Today screen. I then checked in the System Processes and found that it was using 21mb of RAM! Even after terminating that process and restarting 'panelmanager.exe', it will not come back. A soft-reset is needed to fix it.
I don't believe this is a WA+WAD issue, because I've tested by terminating both of those apps, but panelmanager still refuses to launch via the X-Panel key sometimes...anyone else experience this sort of thing with their panels?
Otherwise, I'm sooo happy with this device, and I show it by giving my love back to the phone via the 3.5" port ooooo weee!
it's cool in some ways almost as cool as iphone/ipod touch version
and in some ways much cooler
very pro work with the gui
like it a lot. Big thanks to whoever made it. More panels now!
Best looking panel around. Great work!

Waiting for Orkut panel aswell !

I was wondering if this watch is compatible with xperia??
i wanna buy this watch but if it doesnt work with it it will be useless en it will do nothing different than a normal watch
has someone tested it, seen it or read it
Not compatible directly, but there are programs that allow it to work.
I've been using the MBW-100 with the Xperia X1 for several months
Very useful to discretely read sms msgs and to reject calls
I use a little app called "btwatch", there are more apps out there, but I testedd thiss one first and works a treat for me

I thought that's what it was called, just couldn't remember. You post on the xperiax1.net forums at all?
Also, are there any nice watches out there that work WinMo? I need a new one and figure it might as well work with the $800 device in my pocket haha

Xperia X1.net ?? No I have never posted there, just bengalboy and here, gsmspain sometimes
Regarding watches, as far as I know, none of them works "as is" with WinMo
You need btwatch or any other BT app, but I can tell you they work a treat, even better than the stock Sony Ericsson stack
Pairing the MBW-100 with a SE phone givesyou very basic functionality, but btwatch (or else) add LOTS of new functions to the watch
I'm happy with it

I don't have an MBW-100, but a BT bracelet with LCD screen.
I had problems with btwatch, but the SmartWatchM worked .. it vibrates but the caller name doesn't show up on screen etc. I also tried JETware software and after configuring I could get my bracelet to vibrate and show the last name of the caller.. but that's all, no sms notification/reading or anything. I wish to find a software that might have support for this bracelet.
So I'm more than interested to know what other software there is?
Thanks.
I use Smartwatch
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362218
If smartwatch doesn't work you can try btwatch
btWatch by pcfixitman
smartWatchM by moneytoo
Hope this helps
I'd like to see some pictures of the watch, can you guys make some? I'm curious about it, but not sure yet.

Here is the product page of that watch:

And here is some in action pictures in that thread:

I don't have that watch myself. I have only a bracelett with LCD.. which I personally found cooler option. Because using a wrist watch is so last season.. if I remember correctly ancient people in the late 20th century used wrist watches a lot.
Hmm... bracelet with LCD? Haven't seen that around where I live...
Does the lg prada with x1 clock?

there is no word about be able to do webcamera on a windows pc with the phone... sorry orb live wont do it
i would like to use the nexus one as a webcamera for my laptop and viewing webcams on the n1...
I've done it with orb... no problem.
Make sure you set up their latest edition and use it through the web browser. Their app sucks... through the browser its free
I can see how you can use a PC Webcam and bring it to the N1 using this software, but I really don't see how to do the opposite.
How do I use the N1 as the webcam that's viewable on a PC?
qik anybody?

I have "googled it". What search terms would you suggest to get some relavent results? When I do searches I typically end up with two hits that at first seem like they might be useful. The first goes to google's forum and is worthless... the next one links to this very thread.
Two different people here have said they've done it with orb... it's pretty reasonable to ask them how they did it since doing searches on orb's site don't give anything fruitful.

Why do you keep posting off topic?
Let's start over and read the question being asked and see if there's a solution.
We all know that Orb will let you stream a webcam that's connected TO YOUR PC to your phone.
That is NOT what we're trying to accomplish.
We'd like to be able to (as the thread states) "N1 using as a webcam" Use the N1's built in camera to stream live video to another place.
I would like to be able to set the phone down, aim it's camera at something and then have someone else... PC across the planet... whatever... be able to see what the phone is aimed at.
Does anyone know how to do that?

I do. I'll rip it when I get home if I remember, but you'll also need a software client on the PC side which I do not have.

Yea, that's the point I'm at... I wonder why they took it down.
The only issue I'm seeing is that they say it only gets 3fps... that ... kinda sucks.
*edit* and thanks for grabbin the apk off your phone later.. I appreciate it.
Another issue I'm having, and maybe it's just because I don't have it attached to a computer yet, but everything is rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise on my n1 and a portion of the bottom mirrors the image.
