[Video] Cyanogen uploads video of CM6.1 running on G2 - G2 and Desire Z General

http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/1...enmod-video-of-cm6-1-booting-on-cyanogens-g2/

he says that its still worked off a temp root, so we still need to find a perm root for it to be on there over a reboot

Did you see how fast that was running? I mean I don't know what it is bout the G2, but the thing flies. I really like the move of this. Hope to see more, and that's only with temp root for now.
Sent From The Moon...

Well, since this isn't permanent this is not a step forward...

I'm guessing it took a fair amount of work to get CM6 up and running on the G2... so I'd say it's a step forward. There are steps between the beginning and the end.

What I'm doing is bringing in all the necessary modifications to *userspace* to build from source and support all the hardware. This is not simply pushing files around. There are a lot of changes for 7x30 required since much of the audio and video output works completely different than what we (and AOSP partially) currently support.
It's not a step forward towards a real root, but a step forward towards having something you can build from scratch and do whatever you'd like with.

Because of cyanogen's work, when the real root happens we will have his amazing rom to use =D

Anychance of an unsupported rc-0 to let us play with? I was planning on using the sdcard method to play with untill real root, this would make it much better!

Those are the people I like to call ass-amistic... They see no glass at all, they see no good, and only some negative. They argue about everything and think they are right about everything...
I think that summed it up! Oh and great work Cyanogen

May not be progress towards root, but it's progress towards having a stable rom as soon as a permanent root is available.
Keep up the good work Cyanogen.

They just hate the fact they have nothing to contribute to "forward movement" whay cyan is doing is far more productive than "why I don't has root yet"....
I have nothing "real" to contribute besides my gratitude and as soon as the "code guru's" who make these phones so much fun do crack the root issue I will buy my G2....
Ignore the haters and lert them be "right"
Keep up the good work and FORWARD momentum, and for christ sakes people say thank you these guys aren't getting rich of this, they are doing YOU a favor!

Wow, this is awesome news, even if it is a ways away. I've been following another thread for a while, hoping that something would pop up for the fascinate, but so far, nothing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877800
Well, getting 2.3 would make up for the whole 2.2 debacle, to say the least.

I think this is off JT's RIL work and the general SGS port work by codeworkx, coolya, et al.
The latter are still hacking away at Gingerbread/CM7 for the GSM variants. Currently missing compass, 2g/3g toggle (not applicable for us), non-HQ youtube playback, camera, and various install package stuff. Yeah, that's pretty close to functional, so if birdman has caught up he could definitely beat Samsung's Froyo to release.

my point was there is no build here, no link to anything, just info that your average XDA contributor cant really help with (radio interface issues). I think that's why it belongs in general. I can see why you would think it belongs in development, part of me agrees with you. either way, not a big deal to me.
When I said "wrong forum" it was slightly tongue-in-cheek though, about every third new thread in "development" is really not development and somebody says "wrong forum" it's become kind of a running joke. again, I meant no disrespect to you or anyone else.
point is we are very fortunate to have Bird working on this. and I'm sure we are all anxiously awaiting a test build.
Any way too much excited to see more and more things to come

S-Off Maybe soon for GB

So I was reading on the 3D forums and found this post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175668&page=4
Read it carefully. There is a post in that thread about a new tool that will work with any hboot.
Also saw this in the post on page 3.
"This got out before we could make a formal announcement, but unrevoked and alpharev will be merging sometime in the near future. We've always been very close, but we will be officially merging..."soon"."
Could be a big deal. Myn has said he's going to put out an app that automatically exploits some sort of temporary root hack when you reboot the phone. I imagine this would allow for root apps to work, but I don't think it'll allow for ROM flashing.
heck yeah if this works with all hboots, then game on!!!

If I read whats in the thread that the OP posted they say it works with all current hboots. So with them saying that it should work for the locked down Evo4g. I hope to heck it does, no root sux. Sounds like hopefully we won't have to wait much longer tho.
Heres my question that hopefully someone with more dev skills can answer... Supposedly sometime September-ish HTC is going to release an unlocked bootloader for the Evo 3d. Could someone utilize that to discover a flaw in the non-unlocked bootloaders and develop a root method for the Evo's in case this new tool doesnt cut the cake?
Whats with the 1.30 hboot? mines only 1.16
theres already a thread with the progrss to date on this, its a strong possibility we might see the root soon, just hold on to your panties and let this guys finish their work, already an exploit has been found with a temp root, although its not easily reproduced, but its a hole
Great news, I hope those guys do get it done. I'll contribute some cash to them for their hard work..
I for one am praying to the Evo Dev's and Gods out there that a Root is coming soon. I'm sick of my Evo and the bloatware.. almost wish I wouldnt have used my upgrade from LG Optimus S to Evo 4g.. Didnt really care for the Evo3d as it hurt my eyes after a bit, and even though the screen size says they are the same 4.3" I still think the Evo 4g has a better screen..
I'm pretty much in the same boat as y'all the waiting game is killing me... i've been trying to find some utoob vids on different ROMs so that as soon as i'm able to ROOT i already have an idea of what ROMs i wanna try out... how bout y'all any suggestions?

[ANDROID] How to Install Gingerbread 2.3.5 on HP Touchpad - Touchdroid Build

Big happenings recently in the Touchpad realm. Touchdroid, one of the groups who was developing Android for the HP Touchpad, has decided to release a dump of their build, along with instructions on how to install it. I have recorded my own installation in hopes that others might benefit from it.
Two things:
1. Please follow the steps listed here http://touch-droid.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2
2. Be aware that this is not the Cyanogenmod version, and there are a few items that are not quite working yet.
Here is the link to the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhWVmMYquYY
Happy Flashing!
Now, the usual disclaimer: If this bricks your Touchpad.... bummer, dude.
Also, I am aware that an amazing build will eventually be released from Cyanogen. I am excited about this. The touchdroid build is just to tinker with.
:::UPDATE:::
If you want to uninstall this, here is a video explaining how:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKRp3ldtAjU
agreed. Even if their devteam is knowledgeable I will not install their port because of the logs I've read.
Craig
This is the beginning of it all...^^ Android is damn near now... thx!
Please keep in mind that this build is incomplete and buggy. That being the case, this is only recommended to those that care less about the source (we already know all about that) and more about tinkering with it. Use it if you like, but keep the arguments out. Thanks.
Interesting, although its VERY incomplete. I can only surmise that this is a "just to get it out there" kind of thing.

The comments on the video are already entertaining.
People, if you don't have any idea what this is, where it comes from, or why it's being posted..... DON'T INSTALL IT!!!!
If some idiot (me ) puts a video on the intertubes, it does NOT mean that you need to follow it. Watch it, learn from it, but if you don't like the outcome.....DON'T INSTALL IT!!!!!
Also, I total get why people bail from giving even the smallest amount of help to others. Nobody asked me to do this video, I just saw a need for it and made it. And... I'll do it again once cyanogen's stuff comes out for it.
Haters gonna hate, I guess.

How did you go back to previous screen without back button?
Also does anyone know if once the CM version is released the flashing process might be a little easier for the average user? I am not too comfortable with entering commands everywhere. reverend made it look easy because he was obviously familiar with entering command prompts. Either way I will be attempting it, just thought I would ask.

CM's release will be soon enough and will be fool proof. Unless you're reasonably familiar with the Linux terminal and ADB you're probably better off waiting. There's not much properly working on this version. You'll install it, play for ten minutes and them have to go back to waiting for a proper release. This is pre-alpha.

you can see he shot over adb commands
after have following the drama, around the stolen/lost code, I really think people should stop there personal [mod edit], and focus on getting android to the tp. As I see it this, android dump, is touchdrods way of saing: We [mod edit] up, and we are sorry. I also understand that they are stopping the project. So lets all stop the flaming, and wait for the CM, or another teams build! Just my 5 cents
Whats the point of tinkering with the Touchdroid build when the team has disbanded. I would stay away from this build since the CyanogenMod seems to be way ahead of the Touchdroid team anyways.

issent the point, that other teams can see touchdrods build, and use what they can from it. Like small twinks and stuff like that.

Froyo (CM6) on Nexus S

Let me first start by saying the rom doesnt boot completely. It boots all the way to when the screen dims and vibrates, when it is about to display lockscreen.. Logcat shows everything installing and starting correctly.. It wasn't hard to get to this stage, so it gave me a little bit of confidence in this awesome project.. Froyo was my favorite android version, as it was a huge upgrade for my old hero.
I thought it would be hilarious to release cm6 for the nexus s, heck I would have run it for the rest of my nexus's lifetime.
So, let me know what you guys think.. keep digging around to get it booting or give up because its old news..
If anyone wants to help for just a fun proof of concept project, or just to poke around, lemme know, the more the merrier
That is all. Waste of a thread, but that is what the general section is for.
LOL in this time and age running froyo is like going back to xp from windows 7. But yeah as a proof of concept its kind of interesting;-) What would be really interesting, is running gingerbread on the gnx

They are incompatibility. Because Nexus S is the first Gingerbread-device, Androi 2.3.0 is the lowest compatibly OS version.
You also can't install System V(AT&T's Unix system since about 1970) in your computer.

Yes this is true, but the point is that its almost booting.. I knew this from the start, it will require back porting drivers and probably a few kernel edits, but it may be possible.. in the end its just Linux running on a few upgraded drivers and a few kernel changes..

Not without doing some back porting.
This is much easier to do from Gingerbread back to Froyo though, since you are building something to run on the same hardware and software stack (ARM and Android 2.x). The most difficult part would be getting drivers to work, but just as older drivers are made to work on new OS versions with shims and other tricks, in theory this is possible, if not a lot of work.
I'm not sure what will be gained though. Gingerbread didn't seem like a significant resource drain over Froyo, so I can't imagine there are any speed/power gains.

Yeah, its funny because I tried porting a froyo touchwiz rom from the og epic, and it got to pretty much the same place when booting haha.. hopefully I can get this working, along with other variations of froyo, that would be the greatest achievement for me in any android related stuff.

I'm very glad that Google have given the opportunity for low ram devices to Run KitKat.. I hope Pons or Tiny will make KitKat rom very soon..Inc is still breathing !!

They're not the same SOC so they're not that similar.
Also, this point sounds like begging or on the borderline of demanding. This device is nearly dead. There are nowhere near the resources there used to be.
With that said, the evervolv team is working on KitKat for similar devices. Inc support will probably be added once we can get it building.

Thats great news !! I hope it will be ready soon !!
Just a heads up. I hope the developers will pay more attention towards the glitchy video Camera and the battery life.. I really hope Kitkat will be out soon..

This is not meant to be rude in any way but please just let them work. There is nothing that devs hate more than questions about release dates and notes on what you think they should be addressing. I'm more than impressed at the simple fact that tiny and pons are considering spending time on this ancient hardware.

Be glad the developers want to still work on ROMs. You could just buy a new phone if you want to not deal with bugs. Battery life is going to be best on this phone on CM7 or Sense. That's how it's going to be. The newer OS'es are a lot more resources intensive just to run things.
While asking is kind of pointless, if this could be made into a reality, a useable one at that, my god that would be awesome. Also, on an unrelated note, do you go to OSU?

Thanks for the update. At this point I'd love it even without data. It's my "tinkering around" device. Wi-Fi only and Bluetooth is all I use it for. Again, thanks for all the hard work you and others out into these devices.

I agree it's kind of a pointless question, but I was excited to see the low device requirements to get it up and running.
I am an Ohio State alum. Graduated from there 5 years ago.
While searching the forum for kit kat, I've found a build for the INC. Android 4.4 KitKat ! Yes ! by musical_chairs. Heres the link -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046220&page=52
Good luck.. I am just downloading the build..
By the way its not the official build !! Official build is yet to come !!
Can anyone find G-apps which will work with this build. I tried out a Gapps from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012857 but it didnt work out. :crying:

The KitKat builds are bigger than the previous versions, so there's not much room left in the /system partition.
You'll need the GApps Core from here: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=9199
The core ones will give you just the basics to save space.
The full GApps won't fit on the small /system partition on our phone with the size of KitKat.
Thanks. So simply all i have is Playstore as an app and other stuff. The rest i will have to download right ? What about Google Experience Launcher (which replaces stock launcher) and other stuff like Google Keyboard ? In the official build will i be able to have the full G-apps ? Just a little clarification needed ? :silly:
So this is not the official release right ? I am really excited about this !! I just tried it out, it is damn snappy and super fast ! Great jobs devs !!
A few small probs i found are the videos are being recorded but is not shown in the gallery, And the external sd card is not shown (and cant access it)
By the way, dont think i am always complaining, i just saw some errors thats it, i hope they will be fixed on the official release..
Job well done Devs !! You gave a new life to my old play around device :highfive:
