CNN just ruined their mobile site... - EVO 4G General

It was decent. Now it's trash.

Well, that's certainly on topic...

Well on behalf of the XDA community let me thank you for that bit of life-changing news. We've all been waiting on pins and needles to see if CNN would make changes to their mobile site.

Just go to the full site.

err... usually i'd tell you, "who cares", but wow...
I mean, i'd never go to their mobile site, but it really is pretty terrible...
and yeah... i did like the old version.
:/
ah well.
I shall shake this off and move on.

It seems to go back and forth periodically between the pretty one and the ugly one.

Don't waste a post.
OP I agree. I liked the old layout better.

Why would you surf the mobile site on a EVO when the phone is fully capable of loading the full site. Isn't that one of the reasons for having an EVO. If I want to surf the mobile site I would have bought a Motorola Razor.

Some websites are easier to navigate on mobile mode. I prefer to read yahoo.com on full desktop mode, CNN.com on mobile. It's a preference.

Because the mobile site loads in about 1/10 the time, is infinitely easier to navigate, and doesn't have huge Flash panels.

I see what you did there!

I guess they figured they had to take their mobile site down a few notches to match the level of their programming?
Hell, I didn't even realize CNN was still around
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk

On my phone, the mobile site is the same as it's been for the past year or two.

Like someone said earlier, it switches back and forth. It's been doing this to me for well around a year or so now. I check the site probably four to five times a day... Kind of annoying once you get used to the newer layout. (Not really new though...)
Still prefer Yahoo! News.

Why do u guys get news from the msm they all lie. If u want real news chk out the Intel hub. It's best to support free media b4 msm censors all alternative media and we will only have lies to talk about

lmao at winmo fanboys

just had a guy at ppcgeeks tell me Android is to the mobile market what Linux is to the desktop market. talk about having your heads in the clouds. im soo glad i ditched winmo and moved to the hero. after seeing the disaster of wm7 today i made the right move.
Wow haha... that man has been misinformed obviously. MyTouch 3G? Droid? Nexus One? The only Android phone I could really say that would fit his description would be the Samsung moment (haven't heard of many people with one).
Sound like the grown adult man working as a parking lot attendant living on the days of his tenure as a high school football player who scored the winning touchdown.they will catch up soon or later
Cant and wont agree with the comment from the guy at PPG, however the 7 phone is far from a disaster and I fully believe that it will bring WinMo back from the dead...even more so than WebOS did for Palm. Its look features, and functionality beats the **** out of everything on the market except Android. Anyway, I'm with Android to stay (though maybe not Sence next time around).

I think the Winmo 7 phone will be decent. Yes it's a totally new UI for it and the apps aren't backwards-compatible, but hacks will eventually come out for it.

Recovering the costs of new development, and gathering anticipated profits to MS (or any other large company) will have to be realized before any new stuff is released. So they will slow the industry momentum down in order to maximize the money that can make. Money is fine. Slowing everything down sucks.
Now they can slow things down by screwing up others, ie.. specifications for open systems designs and so forth.
Only when they see their customer base being reduced (-14% winmo) will they react.
Google on the other hand supplies a "cloud base" and should be impervious to change costs on platforms. That could mean the introduction of new platforms and system upgrades. Certainly a more open environment.

A different kind of comparison...HTC EVO vs Chrome OS Netbook (First Entry - 2/3/11)

So yesterday i received a cr-48 from google. I about **** myself. Being one of the lucky ones i decided to start a blog that compared my evo and the netbook. What I'm looking for is ideas to do comparisons on. From simple to complex and anything in between. After a day of pretty intense use i haven't been able to find much on the basic side of things that one trumps the other on.
So shoot me ideas on what i could try to make these 2 devices do battle with. Post 2 will be reserved for things covered and things to be covered. I will try to keep up with this as much as possible and post my review and comparison at http://evovscm48.blogspot.com/
Link to album...https://picasaweb.google.com/Vitaminjay1982/LETTHEBATTLEBEGIN
Let me know if that link is broken!
Covered:
UPDATE!!! Initial Product Review! http://evovscm48.blogspot.com/2011/02/chrome-os-notebookmy-review.html
To cover:
Google Voice and Video Chat
At least give us a picture of the thing, sheesh.
How is the call quality on the netbook? I know...bad comparison. I bet the evo wins.
This gives me a great idea! I got these apples the other day, I'm gonna go out and get me some oranges and do a comparison.
I kid, I kid.

Have you discovered where the dev switch is yet?
Hell...I'm just happy I got one.
I just got mine too a couple days ago.
I haven't gotten one yet, still hoping to, but I've seen some other sites that say that the cr-48 has Bluetooth in it so that plus the Verizon card built into it might work for calls or voip.

absolutely... i've literary stopped going to the site, which sucks because i liked it and lifehacker so much. funny thing is, i bet they sunk a bunch of money and time into the redesign to the point that no one is willing to admit failure for fear of looking like an ass.
The funny thing is, the site actually looks like its designed as tablet app, if you look at the form factor and layout.
They were probably thinking you guys would love it!

odd that RIM is dropping so much. No, wait, I just turned in my work BB and use my personal EVO for work too. Work email / calendar and contacts take up such an insignificant part of a phone now it's no wonder RIM is tanking when their entire platform is built off connecting to an enterprise server for three, minute operations.
It looks like they may be moving away from the BES with the QNX OS.
I know, rumour and conjecture, but they say a picture speaks a thousand words.

Man I rocked so many Blackberries back in the day it's not even funny, seemed like every phone I owned for a while or upgraded to was another version of the BB. I can't really say bad things about RIM because their phone treated me better than any in the past, up until the Evo hit the shelves... I'm not at all surprised Android is on top of the charts, just about everyone I see now a days is on a Droid! Like the commercial says, "Droid Does!" & "Apple wishes it DID".

No more adobe flash for mobile?

Flash is old hat though....
Technology is moving forward. We have things like HTML5 replacing the need for flash.
Flash is slow, clunky, and a battery and resource hog. Good riddance!
I dunno, I personally love having flash. I like my web pages to render exactly like a desktop, cuz my phone IS my desktop.

I have always hated Flash but it's the best we have and everyone uses it unfortunately. Losing this ability on our phones is a bad thing no matter how you slice it. If we had something better that was more universal that's a different story but we don't.

It does not....No one I know bought an Android for the sole reason that it plays Flash, and if anyone did, they're an idiot. I bought one because I could customize it, root it, and a boatload of other things that I can't do with an iPhone. HTML5 is way better than Flash anyway. We'll all be better off because of this.
^^^^^^^^^
Ummm, actually, Flash is one of the main things I was excited about when I moved to android on June 4th 2010 (evo launch).
I came from WinMo. The skyfire browser on WinMo supported flash, and finally provided a desktop experience on my phone.
Reading the comments on the article I linked to seemed to support the argument that HTML5 could be great, if it was developed a lot further than its current state. Which means, as OstrichSak said, what until then?
And hopefully google DOES have something up their sleeve
