[Q] Remapping Function to Search Button (Wildfire) - Wildfire General

Hi there all,
There might be some answer to my question somewhere lying under some other issue/title. But I can't think of close possibility, so m posting a new thread here.
It's about Remapping the 4th semi-hard Search button (w/ a magnifying glass icon) or any other button to default (or any other function).
I have WildPuzzle Rom 8.0.8 which working all fine except with some messed up Google App. One of those app is Google Search (com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox.apk) which initially was link to the Button I mentioned above. So whenever I used that little button (either on home screen or web browser), it crashes and FC. I try reinstalling Google Search app but failed/restricted to override.
I found out, GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk in /data/app/ folder is causing the problem, so I get rid of it with the help of Root Browser. After that Google Search app from market installed with no problem. No more FC.
That's the git of my current situation. Now here is the real problem. The magnifying glass Search Button lost default link to Google Search App. How do I remap it? I have installed Open Search & Voice Search, which I can bring up by Long Pressing that Search Button. But Single Press Search is gone.
I'm guessing I only need to either fix the link or place the right file in right folder. I can do simple coding (when necessary) if you can guide me a bit.
Thanks for anyone who can help me in advance.

Anyone can help?
Just remapping magnifying button to do default Google search thing.
Thanks.

[Q] Annoying search button that i never use...

Is there any way to assign another function to the search button.
I haven't seen anyone change the search button...
This... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714670&page=2 ... thread has some info on reassigning the optical button. Might be a good place to start. Guessing that edits "qwerty.kl" might allow you to reassign the search too.
Hope this helps.
Thanks but i think that only works for physical keys. Please correct me if im wrong.
I found an app in the market, name I can't quite remember, search along lines of "button assign" I think. Had it on 2.1 to try n hack up a way to lock phone. So search the market, its there.

That's a start. I'll give ten e-points to whoever finds me this app. Lol

It's called Button Shortcut. The icon is a grey camera. It can't replace the search button but you can assign apps to open on long press.
Here's your points as promised. Im still searching for an answer

Yeah, that's the app I had found. Better than nothing.

This... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695936 ...thread has even more info on edits to qwerty.kl (yeah, different name on the Hero).
Yeah so after an awesome two hours of learning adb stuff and searching for guides on the keys for the aria (that were never found) has thrown me at another brick wall. because the keys that perform the search function have been remapped to the camera function but still no change after reboot and all. Someone wanting optical sleep wake had said he or she had to change the key number also which confused me. why would you need another key number? how does that work the phone should only know one key to relate to the functions not a psuedo key or a hidden key. All i have changed in the qwerty.kl is keys 127 and 217 (which are the same digits just moved around maybe something maybe nothing...) from SEARCH to CAMERA. this is ridiculous.
I've found that "in-app wifi toggle" by oliver on the msrket allows wifi toggling by holding down the search button. I find that its useful enough to keep.
One feature i miss from win mo is the customization of hw buttons.

Tasker has an option that can reassign the function of long pressing the search button. You can make it launch an app, direct dial a contact, change wallpaper, turn on WiFi. You can even make it do a series of events, including all of those I mentioned.

I use the "Quick Settings" app from the market. It utilizes the long press search button. It allows you toggle wifi, data, brightness, volume, bluetooth, etc, in app. Its handy if you wanna switch something on or off without exiting what you're currently doing.
weird.. i like the search button.
finds my contacts quick, or jumps to a google web search.
or jumps right to search when in twitter. to each his own.

[Q] Long press search broken in adw?

After talking with some other folks and experimenting, I've come to the conclusion that the problem is adw related. If I use launcherpro or stock tw, I can long press the search key and voice search automatically starts (or whatever app I set it to). When using adw launcher however, long pressing the search button only gets me an "application is not installed on your phone" message.
Anyone else have this issue or found a solution (other than the obvious one of changing launchers)? I've tried stock and nonstock ROMS to no avail, but never flashed off of dj05...
Yep, same here. It started after the last adw update. Workaround is to doubletap the search key or singletap to open search, then longpress to open voice search.

Well, if you press search, then long press search, the voice search pops up...
I'm not sure if it's a bug or not. Not sure what is causing it, but that's the current workaround.
Yeah, I learned of the voice search workaround, but I use launchkey to remap my long press to more useful functions (for me) and it no longer functions with ADW.
Thanks for the quick response. I hope ADW is planning on integrating a long press function in the launcher itself, saving me one more application, rather than it being a bug.

[Q] History Item Editing

I just got my Droid Pro and I'm loving it. My old Galaxy phone had arrow keys and I'm getting used to not having them on the DP. I can't figure out how to do something that used to be easy on the Galaxy.
In certain apps that have history lists, like the Market app, I could easily modify an existing search term by using the down arrow key to auto-fill it, and then edit the text and search for it. On the DP this doesn't seem possible since I can't arrow down, and if I touch the history item it immediately searches on it, and then I can't edit the search term.
For example, say I search the market for "volume" but don't find anything useful so I need to search again. On my Galaxy I could just type "v" and the history list would show "volume", I click the down arrow once to fill the search box with that and then type " scroll" after that, to search for "volume scroll".
Is there any way to do this on the DP? I've googled a while but its not an easy thing to search for, haven't found anything on how to do this.
Well, after hours of googling and testing, I found some solutions. There are a number of virtual d-pad and trackball apps out there, but I wanted something a little more seamless. I found ButtonRemapper (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464) and I used it to remap the Voice key on my DP, and now that key is equivalent to the down-arrow key.
Sigh of happiness. Now I can keep my fingers on the keyboard when filling out forms on a web page, so no more type then touch then type then touch then type. And I can edit history list items like form-fill and such, so I don't have to keep re-typing my searches to modify them.
I still haven't found what I'm really looking for... I'd like a way to dynamically remap hard keys. For example, if I'm in the Market app or a web browser, the volume rocker would get converted into up and down arrow keys. If I'm not in those apps then the volume keys would act normally and adjust the volume.

Remapping hardware keys Galaxy on5

Hey, before anything thank you for your time. So I'm coming from the Samsung Galaxy Light and very much prefer the old hard key setup. For instance the recent apps button was the menu button and I simply had to long-press the home button to view recent apps. I wish to revert to these old settings. I have already rooted this device and flashed/installed xposed framework. I figured out how to to edit the key layout file called "Generic.kl" and have already changed the recent apps key to menu, however I cannot figure out how to change long-press home to the recent apps key and have decided to search for help. I wasn't able to find anything on search engines or forums concerning my issue and have resorted to asking for assistance in this forum.
What do I have to do to remap longpress home to recent apps on the Galaxy on5?

Oh um thanks. But I already tried both of those and neither can do what I want. Is there any help I can get concerning editing the keylayout files?

Remap Menu Button

Hello everyone!
I am currently using @Lenny Bard's SuperTouchWiz v5 ROM (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9505-develop/rom-untouched-stock-rom-t3419034) and I'm loving the ROM except for one thing:
The leftmost key (to the left of the home button), once short-pressed launches the switch app, the long-press does the menu function (or settings? w/e). I want to swap the two as I am much used to a short press launching the menu function.
Can anyone help or lead me to somewhere which can help me solve my problem? I've been searching around but alas it seems that I cannot fully find the proper solution.
Except for Xposed, there isn't any way to do it. Except if you're a developer.

My installed ROM comes with Magisk manager, any way to make a workaround with it?

Unless there is a Magisk module that allows you to do it, then no.
Well here's what I did which turned the soft press to menu and long press to google search (altho what I wanted was for it to become app switcher but the long press on home button does that already so I guess it's fine )
On system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl
I replaced Key 139 APP_SWITCH to MENU
and Key 217 to APP_SWITCH
