I first reported this morning that after the first OTA update, a second update became available and was downloaded by my phone. I did not install it because I was noit sure what it was...and I am glad I didn't! This update appears to BRICK phones, so beware of this second update and DON'T INSTALL IT!!!!
Brick rooted phones? Mines completely stock, will it be bricked? If it does get bricked can I get a new Evo?
Don't download an OTA update if your rooted. pretty simple. You won't download an update for a patched piece of software

Of course he will, as long as Sprint can confirm he didn't break his warranty. They'll give him a new one when their new shipment comes in. After all, it would be their fault and they would have to provide a replacement.

A friend said something about seeing it when he re-searched for an update. Not sure if others are getting a prompt or what not after initial update.
Also bumping so it's nearer to the top.
Yeah, I'm not getting an option for a second update. Maybe it's only area based.
It's not a new update its the same one and if you reply yes your definitely gonna get a brick Sprint messed up lol bringing back the old Samsung instinct days lol

if you got the first one, install it, if you got a second one, don't. easy
what i did was uninstall all apps requiring su then uninstalled unrevoked and the restarted and shut off anything that didnt have to be running and updated...so far no problems short of having to reload a couple of widgets, i cant seem to get back to regular android launcher though
a friend of mine updated with unrevoked still installed and his phone made it through but it hung for about 20 min and i had to take the phone from him because he was ready to remove the battery, his sister had wifi running and after update it wouldnt start, my cousin turned off wifi before updating and his wifi seems fine...
Does anyone have a "bricked" phone? I'm curious as to whether it's a true brick or if recovery/bootloader can still be reached. As far as I can tell it's only rooted phones having these problems, I'm also wondering if people are pulling their batteries. Reports are saying that normal unrooted customers are saying their phones were "bricked", but I'm sure there's a lot of people that were rooted trying to get theirs replaced that aren't going to admit that they were rooted.
since someone in my inner-circle designated me as tech support i have a lot of people calling me, i just had a somewhat akward convo with a friend ending... root?? whats root, i dont even know what that **** is....*background* um dad..... yeah safe to say if you have an expensive phone and a competent kid with access and general knowledge of general electronics keep your phone away from them

I have a normal, unrooted EVO 4G paperweight. Won't boot at all. Dead.
YUP same here, normal EVO, installed second update and BOOM, will not turn on, went to near sprint store and order new one at no cost, should be getting it tuesday or wed.
So the JI6 update is starting to roll out today, finally! My question is I rooted my phone and applied the one click lag fix. Should I uninstall this and take my phone back to stock before the update? Is it possible the lag fix could cause problems when the update installs?
Thanks!

The update is staggered until the end of the month.
so if we have a ROM like Bionix 1.5 which already fixed the GPS is there any reason to accept this update?

yes there is, i just got off the phone with android support, the update is supposed to have 40 + bug fixes, not specifically named but they are there, the battery accuracy is now fixed, media hub is activated officially, not a leaked version, the gps is fixed, the compass is fixed, contacts sync is fixed, calendar alarms are fixed to work properly now, no word on a widget though, a new 10th anniversary sims game is included, different from the one we had at launch apparently. there are other things too, but i forgot some of them, but overall, a solid update if i do say so myself.
Will Kies Upate phones still get the OTA update.
So i have seen the question but not the answer, I did the Kies update I think it is called JI5, will I still get the OTA update?
If not anyone have a link to instructions on how to rollback the kies update.

OTA Updates are rolled out in batches, not all at once. It generally takes weeks for an OTA to get to everyone.
You can either patiently wait for it, check daily manually, or just Odin JI6 as it's already here in the dev forum.
If you're not on JFD stock, then you've already become accustomed to taking matters into your own hands. Why stop now?
I have the same question. I am on JI2, but I want to know if I will get the update.

it is my opinion that as long as you are running the stock kernel then you should be able to load the JI6 update when it is pushed OTA. I have nothing to prove this other than my own logic. So until someone running JI5 can tell us they got notified and updated then we will have to wait and see.

OTA's are staged out in batches, not all at once. T-Mobile has sold about a million of these phones at this point (given that Samsung claims 3 million SGS Phones sold in the U.S. this is entirely likely). They are most definitely NOT going to update a million phones at the same time.
The update for YOU could come now, tomorrow, next week, or before the end of the month. Sitting here in a thread hitting refresh hoping for vital info about the OTA is a complete waste of time.
You have four options...
1). Wait for the OTA, which will arrive whenever it arrives
2). Frankin Twiz, built on JI6
3). Bionix 1.6, built on JI6
4). leaked unmodified JI6 firmware
Options 2,3,4 will get you JI6 today, with the associated risks of taking the management of the update into your hands. Option 1 is the official option which requires nothing but patience. Decide.
Wonder if I could call T-mobile and naively ask about a GPS problem and see if they will go ahead and push JI6 to me?

Ha! You think customer care or tech care have that much power? The people in tmo who do, ssg data, don't take any calls and if they want to, never actually have to talk to the customer at all. They work solely on trouble tickets and work orders. The highest you may get by calling tech is atsg, the people who submit trouble tickets to them.

I got off the phone with tech support at T Mobile a few hours ago and here is what they related to me. Your inability to get checkin succeeded may or may not be usual or normal, they have no clue and the OTA is scheduled to run from 10-7 thru 10-31. has anyone else or does anyone else have the same inability to get feedback from the checkin code? This is the only phone I have had that the checkin failed to register except for a MT3g which they promptly replaced.
got the update today... no problems so far...
The title is self explanitory. Last time I could update was just before the EC05 update was pushed ota. Since then, I haven't been able to update either. Having it for awhile doesn't mean it isn't known.
I have this issue since EC05 and never before or I think is the rom I am using midnight 5.01
I can't do profile update nor prl at all.
Actually when I was stock rooted EC05 I was able to update but since custom rom it is not possible.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
It is a Sprint issue. Apparently there was a problem with 60677 so for most phones they stopped the ability to manually update prl. A lot of people have found who made it to 60677 that Sprint pushed a prl update to their phone (custom ROMs or not) and rolled it back to 60676. It has been discussed and marked as a known issue by Sprint reps on the Sprint Community forum.
Is this a sprint wide problem or is specific to just the epics? I mean, are other sprint phones such as the evo ans evo shift unable to update either?

I believe it's just specific to Epic.
I just updated PRL for my wife's Samsung Moment and my mother-in-law's Samsung Transform without a problem.
Yep, I've had issues updating the PRL since I got the phone I think lol
my last Epic had this problem after the update (maybe 2 or 3 days before it got pushed). since then, I've taken it into sprint to get it replaced to possibly remedy the keyboard skipping keys (didn't fix it lol).
my replacement Epic has been updating PRL and Profile just fine since I first booted it up.....

yea that happened with another one of my Epics (this is my fourth), and they replaced that one with my (third?) and it was fine until the update, which borked it also...
My Epic has never successfully updated its PRL when i tried to. I always do it manually with QPST. No big deal for me. Manually updated to 60677 sometime ago when the file came out.
I went back to DI18 today and updated to EC05. Completely stock, no mods, still unable to update PRL. I was at the Sprint store for 3 hours today and they still couldn't get it fixed. They called in to corporate and even "refreshed" my device, still nothing.
I have another Epic coming in a few days. The tech disassembled my phone to try and fix the wobbly keyboard but didn't have much luck.
While I was in there, a guy with an intercept came in and was having the same exact issue. It's not just the Epic. I think it's all Sprint devices. Even the tech couldn't update his PRL on his Evo
Yes, this is a Sprint issue since they recalled 60677 and are rolling back people with a pushed prl to 60676. Reps have confirmed this on Sprint Community Forum.
Running Epic EC05-rooted-SyndicateROM Frozen 1.1.0-Twilight 1.0.4 kernel, no issues updating to PRL 60676 but will not update past that.

This came out the same day Sprint fixed PRL updating so it does nothing. PRL updating is working on 95% of the phones now. PRLs are being released by area. For most people 60676 will be the highest as seen when Sprint rolled me back yet again last night.
So i recieved a notifaction today that my samsung epic was eligable for the gingerbread 2.3 update. Knowing not to get my hopes up, I followed the instructions to update, but my phone kept telling me my current andriod version was up to date.
I called sprint technical support which was the biggest waste of two hours of my life. They ended up screwing up my phone, which I had to manually get working again.
I finally called my local sprint store to see what was going on, and he told me that spring PULLED the samsung epic 2.3 update because many clients were reporting problems with their phones. He told me it would become available again in the next 3-4 weeks. I have no idea how he would know this information, but im leaning towards speculation. 3-4 weeks is 6-8 months in sprint langunage. He said his is working completely fine, and he would be fine with me to come down and he will manually put it on my phone for me, but warned if my phone bricked, it would be stuck that way (aka i would have to use odin to send it back to stock).
I manually put the E122 version on my phone and so far have ZERO problems. Is anyone else aware of sprint jumping the gun on this one and pulling this update?
I've had the Epic since day 1.
They have pulled EVERY-SINGLE-UPDATE in the history of Epic updates.
It's almost laughable. I can't wait to get a sprint phone that sprint and samsung dont mess with (nexus prime, etc)
I have the correct version right? EI22 is the latest and greatest?
What happens if sprint releases a newer update, will I have to manually remove this one and go back to froyo eco5, or will my phone update ok?
can you point me in the direction of the way you updated this with zero problems? thanks

Im not sure if your being sarcastic, but I will point you anyways.
Before anything, make sure you have FROYO ECO5 Installed, and nothing else.
1.)go to ww.gottabemobile.com/2011/11/09/samsung-epic-4g-gingerbread-update-rolling-out-can-be-manually-installed
2.)rename the zip file they have for you download to update (NOT UPDATE.ZIP, just UPDATE)
3.)put the file on your SD card
4.)start phone in boot mode
5.)update.zip will appear on the boot screen, select it.
your phone will update automatically.
Since it was an official release, EI22 should upgrade to the "GB fixed" version for the Epic, even if OTA is stopped. A quick google search doesn't confirm that the update was stopped. Not saying you're wrong, but could be misinformed.

I agree. I mean it made sense and all, considering i was unable to update via OTA and my phone said my andriod version was currently up to date.
I guess only a certain percentage of users are getting it at the moment? I dont know, I have it now and thats all that matters.
Only complaint I have is their new system they use to kill aps. I loved the fact I didnt need advanced APP killer with my epic, but this new interface is really confusing me.

My wife's stock epic had the same update notification and the same everything is up to date. So I talked to a friend who works at a sprint store and he explained the whole market queue thing for the update (unnecessarily I might add).
He then called support and talked to one of his buddies there who told him that they are getting slammed with calls about this and that they can't do a thing about it if the person isn't up in the queue.
Hell of a way to push an update.

Sprint stated it would be completed over 8 days to ensure it goes smoothly. which means the 17th is the last day. Also it is not listed as suspended on their site. EB13 was immediately listed as suspended when they pulled it.
Sprint zone just sent me an update stating that gingerbread was available. I don't think they've pulled it. But hey its sprint so who the he'll knows! They'll probably wait until they push it to everyone and then pull it ;-)

Yeah, that "your update is ready" message from Sprint is automated and isn't related to your spot in the queue. The same thing happend to me (I got the message days before the OTA was pushed to me) when Froyo got released. I can't tell you how many days before, I waited a day and a half and just did it manually.
yeah, that notification has no bearing on when you get the update. i got notified on my phone about the update hours after i already did the manual upgrade.
