Hi all,
This has been asked a few months ago, before any working ported ROM.
Now that ported ROMs are working smoothly, which I think means there's no (serious) compatibility issue, why I can't just download one of Desire ROMs (stock or cooked), flash my HD2, and have Android as my primary OS?

Well ive you'd read the forums, you would have found that devs are working very hard, to make an Android build on NAND.
NAND means that you can flash it to your internal memory, which will (correct me if im wrong) remove windows and install android as your main OS.
Pls dont ask when this will be possible, nobody knows, only that the devs are working very hard, and its expected to launch somewhere this month, or next month, but nothing is sure!

If you read around the forums a little bit, you'd realise that the devs are getting/have got NAND working on the HD2.....
just be patient and it'll come out eventually....

You can't "just" download desire roms and flash because it's not the rom what is preventing the flashable android from working.
You need a bootloader that can boot that android rom from the hd2 hardware and also drivers and kernel suitable for hd2 are needed.
People are working on it and it is almost done. You just have to wait. AFAIK the bootloader is called MAGLDR and it is a replacement for the SPL/HSPL on your phone. It is capable of booting winmo 6.5, wp7 from internal memory and android/linux from internal memory or sd card.
But this is a work in progress. It is not released yet.

hay guys sorry id some of you get mad for me posting this here but this is the only place i know my qustion will get answered. OK im new to the windows phone deal. i have a mytouch slide and a g1 rooted so i under that hole part here is my ?.
From what i have read on the forums only build roms work with the hd2. well i would like to put android on it but after looking around most the roms on here and the links on here for putting android on the phone all lead to the LEO forum is the correct or no if not can someone tell me were to get the most resent android rom for the hd2 usa, now there seems to be two ways of installing it one is from sd card and 2 is from boot i would like to do it from boot any help would be grate thanks all and happy modding

There are not TWO ways of doing android.
Android is ALWAYS installed on the SD card. The only way to "boot" to it is to have your WM configured to boot the two files from your SD card required to run it, in essence there are a few apps that can do this at WM startup.
You will still need an Android friendly Windows Mobile ROM, so the stock from will not work. You also need a compatible radio.
I would check out the HD2 Android Dev forum for more info though.

The Android port cannot replace the WinMo OS just yet. The only way is to install it to your SD Card and it will run off of that. There are apps that allow you to choose between WinMo and Android on bootup. The LEO Android forum is correct since Android builds do not matter which device it is booted on.
Android is able to run on the Stock ROM, but people have said it runs better with a different ROM/Radio.
The build I recommend is Energy ROM / Radio 2.12.50.02_2 and an Android Build of your choice, but you can always run it on the Stock if you feel like it.

I would look Here (FroyoStone thread) first and see how you like it. Latest release Sep 2nd.
Also when you download the Rom your prob wanna need the rmnt version. Froyostone is the best my far for me and bootloaders are for people with more then one Android Rom on there sdcard

There is a decrease because the NAND versions are so darn perfect and solid. I am assuming you want to continue with SD versions to keep WM 6.5 as a dual boot option? If not, then just do a NAND flash and use your SD card for what it was intended for, mass storage! NAND is the way to go, SD card is so last year! Lol!
I've actually been searching for the last couple of days for the complete opposite, converting a sd version to a nand. Already found the wonderful world of nand converting to cwm.
i would like to stick with sd version as i still havent found a fully satisfied version...i am wondering does nand will work way better and stable than sd version? because im keep changing different build to test which one is the best one out of them.
Its a matter of opinion, you have to at least have a base of what your looking for, for example, I like sense builds, not many are out there, but I try them, they all have their pros and cons, its what you can live with and what you cant. Or as many have said, make your own. I got into doing that with WinMo when I didnt like much of the builds out there. Now I may just read up on seeing about making my own build for myself.
But in short, have a base of what your looking for and go from there.
i tried to extract the system.img and put the files into a generated system.ext2, the process was successful, but the system.ext2 wont boot, it kept rebooting.
maybe there's another way to do this

1. I like having both Winmo and Android although I do currently use Android more
2. I Am sure NAND builds are super-best-good-times, but I like flashing to have the latest and greatest and find it a big benefit to have WinMo at the backseat
3. Any success with this? are the kernels released for NAND compatible with SD?
It seems that most builds and work is on NAND builds I hope SD and RAM builds (which I think are the best of all worlds) won't be abandoned.

I am also interested in doing this. I need to still have my WinMo 6.5 so I can sync my work schedule (ANDROID is NOT supported or allowed) and I have notice a significant Lag in the GPS apps I have tried (IGO, and Aura) on a NAND ROM. If any chef has the time to walk me through it I would greatly appreciate it.
I'm using WP7 and duel boot with Android on SD, I will be returning to Android Nand as my main OS, but I will still test Android SD builds booting from Magldr. The SD forum has slowed down, so I would like to convert nand to sd also. Hopefully someone will find a solution soon. Why not have the best of both. When Magdlr 1.13 comes out, there will proberbly be more interest in this area.
i would also like to do this. because there is some nand roms i would like to convert for my personal use. please someone point us in the right direction.

There are 2 ways to install Android OS in your device and they are posted in sub-forums in here and i think you have already saw them
The SD version is if you don't want to leave wm6.5 but wanna give Android a try!
(thats the easiest way to install it)
And the NAND version if you have decided that you want Android OS in your mobile and ofc Android will have much better performance in NAND than SD
PS: my opinion is if you don't want mw6.5 anymore go read some posts and install the NAND version cause you will have much much more performance

Hi and thanks for a quick reply and more than helpful answers. I need to ask you several more things. Since I want to install NAND version, because of the performance, I need the latest version . I saw several instructions for 2.2 and 2.3 android. Can you give me the link to the 2.3 newest installation link. Also is there any known issue after installation (like no wireless network, or some applications doesn't work...)

As Richy said there are sooo many roms for you to try
The 2.3.5 rom for me is the most stable if you want your phone to work 100% 24/7 with no battery consume!
Now its up to you if you want Sense 2.2 or 3 if you want MIUI or Gingerbeard or or or or or
For me it goes like this :
1:Go to NAND sub-forum
2: Find a good and updated Rom for your mobile (at the front of each title its the release day) enter it and read the full description the dev gives you and to all the steps!!!!
3: for correct use of your wifi,gps,etc.....find a good kernel (Most devs gives you a kernel of their choise with their ROM)
Thats all you need to know...all you have to do is read the hole post carefully
And just an opoinion..if you want a fast and stable (not a fancy one) ROM go for a MIUI and a good one is this Mwakious

When the T-Mobile version is mentioned, it is purely indicating that it is a TMOUS HD2 with 1024 MB ROM and the T-Mobile logo on the top. The carrier doesn't matter

Are you sure that carrier doesn't matter , US has different frequencies , and this is T-mobile US (TMOUS). If the carrier doesn't matter ,can I then install in switzerland on orange HD2 according to the procedure for T-Mobile new gignerbread ?
If not can someone give me some links for my HD2 please. I searched NAND 2.3 android but some of the topics are from 2010 and some of them after installation have various types of problems.

Hi there, I was exactly where you were 3 weeks ago. I picked up a second HD2 as my WM HD2 phone is heavily loaded with apps and files etc. and I did not want to risk stuffing it. I played with a couple of versions with HTC Sense but then tried TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 and found it smaller, faster and more stable + much slicker than WM.
After just 3 days and a few new apps like Swype and Wi-Fi tethering, I cut over to droid forever. Next I will do my original HD2 to make it a mirror backup.

As long as you have a TMOUS phone, you can install the T-Mobile US version. As for the Android ROM, have you even looked in the NAND Development forums? There are tonnes of ROMs, none of them even remotely old, which work perfectly. Take Typhoon CM7 or Hyperdroid, for example.

its been a long time since I had the pleasure of visiting xda all the way back to 2006 when I flashed my HTC Artemis most every week....
well now I got my hands on a TMOUS with ultimate android rom 2.3.3 with MAGLDR 1.13
Now to my nOOb question....
as android has some what limited support for adhoc wifi and I need it badly, I want to flash winmo7 on my hd2. I've searched and searched and I can't seem to find if its ok to flash winmo7 an an already flashed android 2.3.3. And then we have the rom size...do I need to make the partition bigger if I want to keep the android rom aswell...I think I do right?
But I think I know pretty simple how to just flash winmo7 straight on the hd2 if all above fails. the big question and I hope I'm right...
Winmo7 supports adhoc wifi right?

Windows Phone 7 doesnt support ad-hoc networks at the moment. Im not sure if there are any hacks available to enable the feature...maybe there are. Anyway, if you want to flash WP7 and keep an Android SD build, here is the tutorial: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944288
For WP7 itself,just flash it on its own using MAGLDR.

Actually, I have a HTC HD2 with a poor operating system, which is Windows... I want to port Android there, and my question is, which one of the Android OS is the most stable in this phone. I know there are various versions of Android available for the HD2, but I am looking for the Android that will perform flawlessly and is the easiest to port (straightforward, using tool, not coding), I don't want to put my head in danger on the first attempt.
Which of the Androids works best on HTC HD2, and what tools do I use to make the port for that particular OS version.

IMPORTANT: by default this phone was factory locked to T-Mobile US, now I am using it outside the us in another country, but I did not perform anything on it to change the radio settings, the person that gave me the phone has unlocked it...If I port Android to this phone will it risk the radio settings (I would not like the lose the possibility of using it with other carriers), or porting Android does not mess with the radio at all...
For future reference, what type of Driver/Tool is required to have installed so the phone can interact with computer?

If you used the search tool or Google you could have easily found 100+ threads about the best ROM.
I would say use a CM7 or MIUI ROM. There are tonnes, don't be lazy, I CBA to post links (yes, that is very hypocritical of me).
As far as I know Android won't mess with your carrier stuff
To install just download the HD2 NAND Toolkit, install HSPL, MAGLDR, CWM then ROM (see this guide).

I tend to understand that he wants to PORT and not INSTALL an Android ROM. Isn't that correct?
If that is what you are asking then Gingerbread non-sense is currently the easiest to port. you can use the kitchen found within the development forum.

I wasn't too sure, but I assumed that the use of the word 'port' was simply a misunderstanding, in the same way that many people say that they have 'flashed' an SD Android build.
@OP, If I was wrong then I take back what I said about not searching and stuff cos this is clearly not something heavily discussed and there isn't as much information available about it.
In my experiance hyperdroid cm7 has good speed stability, and battry life. This is a minimal rom with not a lot of fluff. If you like iphone fluff i would suggest ndt miui stable, miui has iphone simple fluff with andorid power, while cm7 has extended power user features like cpu controll built in.
to learn how to do this look for a newbie thread. They walk you form stock with being locked down to android and unlocked for flashing new roms.
I would go for hyperdroid it's fast and stable.
