My microphone is recording horribly during calls and just about anything. At first I lived with it but now it's really starting to bother me. I stumbled on an XDA thread and some others that give the following instructions (to change call settings):
"*#*#197328640#*#*
[5] AUDIO
[1] HANDSET
[1] VOLUME
[6] I2S1 Rx Gain: Default to 0x38e8 on my phone. You can change it to something lower to reduce the mic sensitivity during a call.
or
[4] DST Speech TX Volume: Default to 98 on my phone. Again, you can change it to something lower to reduce the mic sensitivity during a call.
Unfortunately this does not work for audio or video recording.
I am not sure exactly where the 2 different gains get appplied in the audio chain, and if either of them is applied before the clipping occurs."
I was wondering if people that don't have any problems with their outgoing sound quality could post their I2S1 RX Gain and DST Speech TX Volume. My defaults are 0x1fff and 88, respectively. I tried the defaults that were posted in the instructions above but it made things even worse.
So, XDA, I ask you to please post your I2S1 RX Gain settings and DST Speec TX Volume!
Btw I'm running JH2.
[6] I2S1 Rx Gain: 0x1fff
[4] DST Speech TX Volume: 88
jh2 as well.........i've got a silicone type case on mine, and i noticed before when people complained about my voice, it was because some lint got into the tiny mic hole. once i cleaned it up, it was much better.
EDIT: i just checked my gf's phone, and it's the exact same.

I just came across your post.... I just made a thread regarding this issue in this section.... Funny thing is... I'm also with Bell, and my defaults where exactly what was posted in your quoted text from the original poster (that you got your info from) and i changed mine to what you say was YOUR default settings... and it made a HUGE difference... I don't understand how/why yours was defaulted to what I changed mine to manually... weird.... I made my modifications around X-mas time when on 2.1 and even after upgrade to Froyo, the modified settings stayed the same...
Can any of these be used to increase in call volume?

ahhhh I'm not too sure... I have never tried... Try changing the Rx to a higher value and see what happens... don't forget to write down the original value...

Hi everyone ive been on here for a while now reading and modding my blackstone. all going well
Apart from the volume!!
Everyone complains about the volme being to loud well mines to quite ive installed tweek HD and advanced config but unable to make it any louder though external speaker or head phones (FM radio and Player)
Audio boost - enabled
100db limit - Disabled
Increase sound - High
FM reception - Improved
and in advanced config music paler volume is set to 100
Just so you understand how quite it is. If i set the volume slider to 3 i can just about hear it, i know alot of you complained that on the first bar it was two loud wish mine was
what am i missing??
Anyone got any ideas?
was it quite out of the box? or after you added some apps and tweaks?
one idea: some earphones have built in ear protection. With my PSP one I had to modify them... try with others?

...which headphones are you using? how do you sync your tracks? with my Shure Se110 i couldn't bear louder volume without feeling pain in my ears, but indeed i noticed it depends a lot on how the track is recorded...

Has anyone noticed that the earpiece volume during a call is not loude enough?
Is there a reg edit to get this up a bit?
Thanks,
Jeff
I've noticed that too. Soft and too low for my taste. Would be great to have it a bit higher
I noticed that too on my TMO TP2 and did a little experimenting.
It appears to be related to the 'noise cancellation' settings, if I'm not mistaken.
I found if I go into: Settings> Personal> Phone> Advanced> (last Tab on right)
On the "Advanced" screen right at the bottom is-
"Reduce noise in phone calls",
'Automatically' is set as default.
When I change this setting to "Never" the in-call earpiece volume becomes very much better.
No idea if there is any other side effect in other areas yet, but in-call audio has certainly improved.
HTH.
There are a couple utilities floating around here, audiopara3, one called full boost and another light boost. I know when I tried both on my Rhoduim, I could not hear them but they can hear me. I have tried the full & light boost.
Then there are others that say it makes the sound too distorted and crackly like its going to blow the speaker. It use to work perfectly on my Touch Pro1 but not on my Rhoduim.
Just be careful when using this and don't blow your speaker.
hd tweak is what finally worked for me i changed the acoustic setting from 100db limit to normal and now it sounds much better and its not hard on the speaker
Sweet! Thanks for the tip on HD Tweak...I can now comprehend what callers are saying...
Hello,
since yesterday i got my new HTC Snap and i got a big problem. Often the callers are very quiet. I can't understand them. Does anybody know this problem? Is there a reg. key to change the volume to a higher level than normaly?

I noticed that too when i got mine, then i removed the plastic sticker/cover from the phone and BAM, instant boost in sound...
Other then that I really dont know of a way to boost output, Mine has a way to boost audio through Headphones, maybe someone can take that and apply it to the builtin speakers?
looooool
you are right. How silly i'am ;-)
THANKS BRO'
You can try:
go to HKLM\software\HTC\SOFTWARE\AUDIGAIN\
speaker:
EAC_GAIN_EMBEDDED to 71
CODEC_GAIN_EMBEDDED to 07
headphones:
EAC_GAIN_HEADSET to 71
CODEC_GAIN_HEADSET to 07
You may need to add them but they were present in my HTC Dash 3G. It really boosted my audio. Louder then 71 and 07 caused the speakers to distort. You might have to play with your audio levels to find a comfort zone.
I just got the LG Quantum and I tried to unlock it using MFG. Since then, I can't hear any sound on when I make/receive calls unless I put it on speaker mode or plug in a headset!
Does anyone know how to fix it???
Semi Solution
I'm not sure if this will ever get noticed, but I think I probably need to start about here since I'm having very nearly the identical problem (and I can't post in the forum that I felt was more applicable since I'm a lurker/noob).
I can actually fix it by opening appmfg (dial ##634# password appmfg#*#) and then I go into ELT Mode / Manual Mode / Audio Loopback then just exiting, and that starts the audio working properly again, but this doesn't persist through reboots, so I'm hoping to fix that.
If I go to Engineer Menu / Device Test / Sound Test / Audio Call Tool, I can play around in there with RX Voice CAL, RX Device Volume CAL, RX Stream CAL and Subsystem CAL. In RX Voice I can change the settings and they stay while on that screen but revert if I go out and back into the tool (for all Device Types). RX Device Volume keeps the settings but not through a reboot I think, and it doesn't seem like changing them changes the actually sound output anyway. Same for RX Stream Volume. But Subsystem won't change any settings though it lets you try. I'm not sure if this is where I should even be playing around to fix this problem, but in the appmfg its the only place I've found to mess with audio settings.
I'm hoping that its a registry change that occurs when I use audio loopback to reactivate my hardware speakers and that I can apply that tweak permanently, but I'm not familiar with messing with WP7 registry. How should I try to investigate that? I theoretically unlocked my device, I've been thinking about sideloading a registry tool but I haven't just yet, I'd like to see what folks think about the problem in general. I did try going back to 7.0 but it was no different than 7.5 for my audio. The other weird thing is that sometimes it will make notification noises all by itself, but it won't play music through the speakers or anything like that. This is a just for fun phone so it doesn't have a SIM, and I can't, like, return it or anything.
It seems like WP7 has a lot of audio glitches like this, I've found a number of similar threads with no solution for mine or to improve mine.

Anyway, if this gets noticed it'd be great if someone knows a better fix.
sound issue
i too am having a no handset audio issue. in test loopback modes all speakers work. the headset just isnt relinquishing sound to the handset, i was hoping someone out there knows the registry enough to tweak the sound options or make a super simple app that will let me select the speaker since the software maybe having an issue.
Im now on custom rom, but I think its not because of this.
My phone has very low speaker. On full, it sounds like on half of volume level in other phones. Bluetooth sound is OK!
Do you experience this?

You can change RX Digital volume values (in /vendor/etc/mixer_paths.xml) to 87 or more. Then reboot. Don't increase too much at once.
Additionally, you can install Viper4Android. Then,
1. Extra Loud - On; Effect Strength - Extreme; Max Gain - Infinite; Max Output - 0 dB.
2. Master Gain Limiter: Output Gain - 6 dB.
If that's still not loud enough, then your loudspeaker is physically damaged.
