Use the Device Info app from Curve Fish.
The Settings->About Phone option will only tell you the first few numbers of the kernel version.
I'm using JAC's OCUV Voodoo kernel and the Curv Fish app shows the full kernel name and version date.
Good information.
Or.. if you're using SetCPU just go to the info tab in SetCPU and its there.

Hi there, quick question...
Do the newest kernels also include undervolting and conservative power setting? (and overclocking, but I don't understand why people even want that)
With newest kernels, I mean the kernels from http://oe.netripper.com/files/htcleo_autobuild/
Or should I use the kernel attached in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=746997#
All this is answered in android development. Check ur builds thread. It will telk u which kernwl is being used and what is enabled. Im using shrubcrafts build. The included kernel has overclocking undervolting inckuded.

ok maybe I wasn't clear (blame it on the dutch! ;-)
Of course I know which kernel I'm using at the moment, indeed it's mentioned in the thread of the build.
However, I can't find any info on the activated options in the newest kernel (for example the kernel of the 24th august).
As far as I understand, someone started adding/changing some lines in some file and recomplied the kernel to have other options activated. I'm not sure, and want to know if recent autobuilds do have those options by default.
Please correct me if I'm wrong!
How do I flash a kernal on my Wildfire? I downloaded Jacob's overclockable one.

Yeah, put it on sd card, boot to recovery and flash it.
Thats what I did, it installed it or something in less then a second but nothing changed.
Kernel information didn't change ? The kernel name should change to a very long name with jacob inside.
No it didn't change, now I have a CyanogenMod rom, with Jacob's kernal but no the one that you can overclock with.
Did you try oc'ing in SetCPU? The kernel is not overclocked by default because then, some users had problems booting with the pre overclocked kernel.
SetCPU is officially available on the XDA Forums. Just perform a search.

I have SetCPU, can you write down how to flash a kernal step by step for me?
I would really appreciate it.
Really, its the same as flashing a Custom ROM. If you were able to flash one, you should be able to flash this as well. (Restart in Recovery Mode, Install Zip from SDC)
BTW, it should show this under Settings > About Phone > Software Information > Kernel Version - [email protected] #1
This will show the kernel is successfully flashed. What is the maximum you can see in SetCPU? Is it still 528?

Yes I did.
at this point i flashed my fascinate following directions on the dj05 rom, kernel, radio thread. However, I went with Stupidfast v1.54 kernel. I'm operating fine, but how do i know the kernel flashed? everything shows success, but does the kernel version show up in phone info ie. my Kernel Version still shows 2.6.29
sorry for the noob question
2.6.29 is the linux kernel version that samsung's kernel is based upon. All the current custom kernels on the fascinate are still based on samsungs code. If installation of stupid fast went smoothly without error that should be what you are running. Also this is not really a question for the dev forum.
Thanks for the reply, this is where I found the info originally so I figured best place for answers.

You could install the app setcpu...open the app, set to autodetect when it prompts you, then press the info tab and it will give you kernel info at the top.
Hi,
which Kernel have I to flash to use the BLN Control App on CM7.
The App tells me, that my Kernel is noch compatible...
Thanks!
BLN is already included in Cyanogen 7, by default
Just check inside Settings
I know, but I can not configure a timeout oder night-sleep or something like this... The BLN Controll App has more preferences... Is it even possible to use this?
Its not in cm7.1.0.1 run the 7.1.0 RC. Its more stable anyways.
Or
Use francos kernel in rom manager or drew garens kernel in rom manager. Make sure you wipe delvik before flashing.

If you are looking for a kernel for cm7 be sure to read good the posts, the second one you posted isnt a cm7 kernel. About the first one, it would meet your requerimet of using bln as they say in its features.
i used bali kernels on my tmobile vibrant and everything was peachy. id go with the bali kernel for your galaxy S
Take the glitch kernel v 13 its the best ;D

The Overcome ROM with the Overcome kernel is probably the best choice assuming you have a GSM Tab as opposed to a CDMA one. Once you install that (the Guide is very good) you can use something like Voltage Control from the Market to Over clock anything up to 1.6 GHz and you can even undervolt it a long way with Overcome, but be careful as always.
Hope that helps
I dont like the touchwiz bloat ao i run cm7 on mine. Bottom status bar, ics theme for cm7 and your set. Also there are honeycomb and IcS ports if you feel like testing out newfeatures of android but they are not daily drivers.

I got the overcome rom with the overcome kernel and things have improved overall. I do have a couple of problems though, I would post in the development thread but as I haven't posted enough I am not allowed to.
The problems I have are the battery seems to be used quicker and I cannot purchase apps off the market.
