Any way that anyone has working for video to stream from their nas? I want to lay in bed and watch my videos, but I cannot for the life of me get them to play. Tried ES file explorer, File Expert, vplayer, rockplayer uni, rockplayer lite, built in player. I can find the videos just fine, but it will not play them. Looks like file expert tries to open them in a web page, then crashes back to the folder on the nas.
Looking for the same answer as well lol
got to be something on the market place that works
You will need a rooted xoom. Install the cifs.ko module from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974343&highlight=cifs
Then use the program cifsmanager that can be found in the market to mount your shares. I tested it last night and was streaming .avi files from my NAS. HD video that played fine locally was having a little trouble streaming. I'll have to work on finding the optimal transcode settings.
Hope this helps
boom, I didn't know that cifs worked on the xoom.
I'll update in 10 min if it works
cifsmanager is a little tricky though, I was unable to launch it from the shortcut created in the launcher. I had to launch it from inside the market.
how did you set it up? I cannot get it to connect to the nas, it is saying it failed b/c "no such device"
That error means the cifs module isn't loaded. Click on menu then settings. I checked the Load cifs module and the Load via insmod boxes. Reboot (or kill the application with a task killer), start it back up and it should work.
still no dice. i have the ip of the nas in the share path, the mount point is /mnt/sdcard/Movies
all other fields blank. Am I missing something?
I dream to have AirVideo ported from iOS.
Wondering why no Android developer created something similar
You will be rich for creating such app for Android! Being the first!

why doesnt anybody use "orb" to stream their videos? am i missing something? it works fine for me. tried it last night on my xoom. i have live tv and all of my downloaded movies working for me
I think you're missing the share name. For instance, the first field should read something along the lines of 192.168.0.2/e (e being the share name). Mount point is fine (I think. I have mine mounted to /mnt/cifs/e)
orb is the best thing to use streaming video. and its also web based
not working still, now saying mount: invalid argument
//192.168.1.70/movies
/mnt/sdcard/movies
Do any of the media players on the Xoom support UPnP (DLNA)? If so, you might be able to use something like PS3 Media Server.
http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/
The server shouldn't have // in front of the ip address.
my nas is already setup for dlna and itunes server, so anything that works with those would sync up to them. Sucks that apple has this working so well and we can't get it.

Tried it both ways, still invalid argument error.
After doing some reading, try putting in the computers login name and password. (if the computer doesn't have a login name/password, create a user (with a password) and give them access to the share) That should hopefully take care of that error. (I never encountered this error, but I had a username/password)
is the issue that i'm trying to access a NAS and not a pc? So you have it working to a shared folder on your pc...

I have a (free) MP4 Streaming Server app that runs a website on your (windows) computer. I also have a few sample-videos (look in the NOOKcolor section. I havent had a cvhance to make samples for the Xoom yet) on my website that are streamable, located on an apache webserver. Just visit the site on your Xoom, and tap the mp4 links.
For MP4 files to stream, the quicktime "fast start" atom needs to be enabled, and the location on the webserver of where they are located needs to have executable permissions.
I would have posted this on the bugs topic for UrukDroid but it seems new users can't post replies there.
I noticed after upgrading from 0.6 to 0.7, the stock video player is now crashing when accessing any video files over SMB. There is no issue for video files stored on the internal flash or microSD. This is on my A101. There are two ways to find the issue:
1. With the stock video player, as soon as I navigate to an SMB shared folder that contains a video file, the video player app crashes. This is before even trying to play the file.
2. With Astro, I navigate to an SMB shared folder with video files. When I try to play the video file with the stock player, it crashes
This happened immediately after going from 0.6 to 0.7. Playing videos over SMB is about the only thing I do on the A101, so I noticed it pretty quick. Problem persists after a couple of reboots.
Anyone else seeing this?
Just tested using UrukDroid 0.7, Archos 101 16gb + 16gd sdcard, default file browser and default video player connected to d-link dns-320 nas.
Works fine, no problems.

Just in case anyone else runs into this, I managed to get it working again by going to settings->applications->manage applications->all, clicking on video and then clicking Clear Data. The problem has returned once aleady, but this does fix it again.
Im new to xoom guys. I used to play video files with opening them in astro file manager with smb. Seems smb is not working in astro, tried also on desire hd, but on my hd2 with core droid works fine. The other file managers are preferching the files to my tablet, so takes a long time to watch even a few hundred megs movie... how could i mount my network shares onto my xoom?
Another issue is with mkvs, no sound, onli the movie, moboplayer, factory video player either... any ideas for the above issues? Tks in advance guys.
Drop SMB and go with splashtop HD. Well worth the five dollars. Your desktop does the processing and streams the video and sound to the xoom.

Unf, i can only have SMB, no other options.......
Tks.
Ok, in th meantime i found the best video player, named dice player. 3 bucks, but this worths. No need to convert your hd movies anymore. Matroska + ac3 is working very well. Just tap on any mkv file and will pla it smooth. The video encoding is done by the hw and sound by pure cpu, but with dual core it's working fantastic.
Still no info on any smb program which wud work without prefetching... any ideas?

I think he said that he couldn't get mobo to play MKV's over the network without either copying the whole file to the Xoom first, or not getting audio.
You can use cifsmanager to mount network shares. Also, Astro has a module to read SMB shares. It's a separate download in the market.
Cifs is the way to go. It'll treat the shares as local folders and open the files accordingly without buffering.
Do a search around here for the cifs.ko and instructions on how to use it.
Also, I'm going to check out Dice player to see if it'll play high profile mkv.
I tested Dice Player last night with some HP 720 mkvs. Some minor hiccups on a few files but it played great. I play all my media off of twonky server on a linux machine.
I'm definitely thinking of buying the full version. I wanted CorePlayer to come out, but seems like that isn't going to happen. Wasn't impressed with moboplayer or rockplayer, and mx player didn't even register to open mkv's for me.

Well... I think you're out of luck then unfortunately. If you NEED this to be SMB and can't use a media server like Twonky or a streaming option like Splashtop then you'll need to root I think.
ES File Explorer recently added SMB streaming capability. Works fine on my Xoom, I can browse to a WHS network share via ES, and when I tap a video file, it asks me which video program I want to play it back through... Works great for AVI's for me, but I was having trouble getting MKV's to work right. I'll have to try this Dice player.
Tried es file explorer both on my xoom and sensation. On the phone es file exp offers the possibility to choose player or set one as default. On my xoom the factory player starts but nothing happens since cannot handle mkvs. I cannot chose dice, not even with open as video or other stuff. How can i delete default video player from my xoom? I cannot even find any factory playback **** in application manage(((
Maybe clear data for ES on the xoom or failing that uninstall and reinstall?

uninstalled astro, now working fine finally can watch mkvs from my server tks guys!
I have been looking around for good file manager for a while to connect to my windows shares and be able to stream flawlessly my HD content. As well access all of my shared files like i could form another windows node. Thats right even though i am a unix admin i still enjoy using windows. Well ok I game some enough said .
I have tried cifs manager and being an admin i tweeked with the mount options directio, rsize, wsize not much helped to enjoy my windows sharing experiance. I tried many other apps to no avail until I found ES File Explorer.
Used with Dice Video Player, it's an experience I have not been able to beat for HD video playback.
I know there is probably alot of you that know about it but after scanning the TF101 forum I didnt see a thread so heres my first post in the EeePad thread.
Attached is the app, enjoy!
i have been using the same combination for few weeks now and its really great.

i used es file explorer-mx player, but it always try to download the file... anyone can share how to stream it ?
now i use bubblePNP/upnp but wanted to use other renderer for music files instead of the local renderer. Any recommendation / idea?
Hi guys, i've got a little problem with streaming videos to the N7 and need a little push in the right direction.
So i'm using Linux Ubuntu 12.04, i've setup Samba and managed to get the SMB share working on the tablet through ES File Explorer...
All that works fine, i can see what's on the computer, i can delete, add, move, copy files, that works good. However i cannot for the life of me get the damn thing to stream videos properly, the video just cuts out or drops or something. :crying:
Example:
So i'm watching chuck, i can watch the first 15/20 minutes without any hiccups, it streams perfectly and everything is all good, then all of a sudden the video stops and the app closes, ES File Explorer restarts and im back to the local content on the SD storage.
I have tried opening the videos in ES File Explorer with VLC player, MX Player, Dice Player and V Player... It just drops out every 20 minutes roughly... Am i doing something wrong or is it a bug or am i missing something obvious? I've googled the issue and the closest i can find is to use BubbleUPnP, i can't connect to local host in Linux to setup the pc end it refuses to connect.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
I'm pretty sure yur chuck video is broken/corrupted at one point. Can you verify if it always crash at the same minutes/second?
Envoyé depuis mon Nexus 7 avec Tapatalk
I've checked around 6 episodes in the series and its done for all of them, I've also streamed a movie (Bourne identity) to see if its just the chuck videos and the movie cuts out around every 20minutes too.

This happens to me also. I use ES File Explorer to browse to videos stored on my WD Elements external USB HD connected to a WDTV network media player on my LAN and stream to either MX Player or BSPlayer on an unrooted Nexus7. All videos abruplty stop after a period of time and I get kicked back to ES File Explorer SD Card directory. This happens regardless of the media (I've tried tons of files) and happens with both MX Player and BSPlayer. I am assuming it is a bug with ES File Explorer unless it has something to do with the source.
Anyone have any ideas why this happens?
I realize this is an old thread, but I have been having this issue for a long time. I contacted the developer, and the app has been updated many times since, but the issue persists. I had originally thought the issue was with the video player, but I think you're right. No matter which video player I use, the video drops out at random intervals, crashing the player and kicking me back to ES File Explorer, but on the Local tab, not where I left it. Sometimes the interval is less than 10 minutes, sometimes I make it through as much as 30 minutes before the player crashes. There doesn't seem to be a pattern. I have reproduced this with hundreds of videos, encoded with at least 3 different codecs, of varying size and length. My server is XP Pro SP3, so it's not something tied to Linux, as another user suggested. Although this is a Nexus thread, I have experienced this on my Transformer TF700T. Is it possible the ES app is going to "sleep" while the video is playing, causing the LAN session to close? Eight months is a long time to wait for such an important bug fix. I'd be willing to post logs if you explain how to get them.
I still have that problem, on my new devices, did any of you found a fix or a reason`?
