Must have temp root...
I found that the 2.0.5.pre8 works got the G2! It's a bit slow because it seems to start and stop randomly, but it works.
If you google android-wifi-tether then go to downloads link, download the wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre8.apk
I can't post links as a n00b sorry.
I'm going to keep going down the list, 1 by 1, and test them all.
I'll report anything interesting.
sn00ch
stupid question but why did you try 2.0.5.pre8 no pre9?
I should have stated that I tried the newest experimental release, but it didn't work at all. In fact, Windows 7 said it couldn't connect. Ubuntu 10.4 never reported any problem, yet it never connected. My phone never buzzed saying that anyone connected with 9.
On pre8, however, I saw my computers connecting with IP addresses, and internet access!
sn00ch
doesn't work here.
I'm back to pre8. Nothing else worked as good or didn't work at all. Back to my original post to use pre8. This time I figured out a way for a FULL SPEED CONNECTION!
Ok, here is a reproduction of what I did to get it to work.
1) Start Android Tether.
2) Have all your computers connect. For me it was ubuntu 10.4, and windows 7.
3)Tell windows to keep the connect automatically in the little network connection tray icon bottom right.. If Ubuntu tries to connect to some other active connection, disable it (right click on the little wifi signal default installed on top right menu bar), and immediately proceed to the next step as fast as you can before Ubuntu tries a known working connection again.
4) STOP wifi tether.
5) Enable wifi tether.
6) BAM both of my computers connected with blazing fast speeds.
Please someone confirm this...

Has anyone on Verizon with a xv6800 gotten WMWifiRouter to work? I have tried and tried and still have no luck. I installed ICS like others have said and this has still not made it work. If anyone has a xv6800 and has WMWifiRouter working, please help me out with some directions. Thank you in advanced for your help.
Mod Edit: Moved from Titan Upgrading
I use it every day
So far you said that you installed ICS so that should be ok. Make sure you turn on your wifi before wifirouter, and you know it is right when the 3 simi circles stop flashing and stay lit and the message is 'connected to wifirouter ready'. If it is like that then it is working and the problem is that maybe the wifi on the other end needs to be told to look for ad-hoc connection, some will not see one by default. Ad-hoc is the mode it uses.
It says it is conected but also says it is searching for ICS and WLAN and it never connects.
make sure your WiFi switch is on

That is what happens when the wifi is not working because it must bind with it. Go into your commanager and see what your wifi looks like and that the ad-hoc connection 'wifiminirouter' is there.
i was having the same problem. I uninstalled it, turned on the wifi switch then reinstalled it. I originally installed with the WiFi switch off and that apparently was the problem.
I got it. Thanks for your help everyone.
Okay, I have to ask since I haven't figured the program out. What does this program do? It allows a computer to connect to my phone via WiFi, while my phone is connected to the data network, thus giving my computer internet? I don't know.
Thats it exactly

You get a cookie ;-) and not only that but it doles out many ip addresses so anyone in range of your phone can share it's EVDO.
Sweet! I like cookies! This phone really is a magic phone.
I have to admit I was wondering if this was going to work.
I live in a 1x world up here in NW Arizona. Yesterday was a road trip to Vegas, Wife had the laptop and she surfed the net through the connection and then when we got to Vegas we hit EVDO and life was very good.
I think I am going to have to get a Amp with a good external antenna for better reception though.
But this brings up another possible situation as posted above others may intercept the wifi. But cruising down the road that should be a very remote hazard.
The only problem developed last night on the way home . It was searching for ICS like the switch was off. I verifed it was correct. Looked at settings and the wifi icon was missing in action. Soft reboot brought it back and life was good again.
Conflict with Exchange
I installed the program on my Verizon 6800. My phone puts out a signal, my computer recognizes it, gets an ip address and connects, but when I open internet explorer I get the "page cannot be displayed" error.
I do have my phone receiving push email from exchange server. I went into communications manager and turned that off, but still can't connect.
The wmwifirouter site mentions this problem, but I was wondering if anyone has had any success connecting?
Thanks!
do you have your wifi switched turned on BEFORE you open wmwifirouter? your computer will still connect even if the actual connection to the internet is not there. disconnect your computer from the network. close wmwifirouter (or just soft reset for good measure). turn on your wifi switch, then start wmwifirouter, then connect. if you're on a laptop, just shut off your wireless until wmwifirouter is connected.
Thanks for the quick response.
I followed your directions:
1. Soft Reset,
2. Turn on WiFi on phone,
3. Open wmwifirouter program,
4. Turned on wireless connection on computer.
Again, everything connects, but get the same IE error. When I select the wireless network in my office, my computer connects instantly.
In the wireless LAN settings on my phone, the configuration shows:
SSID: WMWifiRouter
Mode: Ad hoc
BSSID: 02-18-41-33-01-09
Tx Rate: Auto
Channel: 11
Signal Quality: Almost a full bar
This program would be absolutely awesome if I could get it to work!

Do you haveto run a custom ROM to use WMWiFiRouter or can you use Verizon's MR1?

I have WIFIRouter and love it. The only problem I have is after using it on my laptop, I have to delete the connection. If I do not the computers (Dell) wifi will only search for my phone, and will not connect to the router in my house until its gone.
I know this is not a phone issue, but a computer one, buut thought someone here might know.
Thanks
Reinstall with WiFi on - Reboot require
I was also able to get my xv6800 to work (using an iTouch) using the above suggestions. I uninstalled ICS and WMWiFi, reset the xv,and reinstalled ICS and then WMWifi "with the WiFi switch" on - thanks for the help!
I noticed that when I reinstalled ICS with the WiFi switch on, it said the changes would take effect after I restarted the xv, which it didn't do when I installed it with the WiFi switch off..
I also had to turn on the WEP encryption rather than "None" to get it to work, although that might have been fixed if I'd just reset the iTouch.

Ok, so I've had issues with vista and pam before, but I have a new one, that I can't find anything about on google, on here, or anywhere else so far. I have a laptop with vista 64 home premium that I can PAM with mogul's ICS using my phone or my wife's (both are on the unlimited PAM plan.) My wife's laptop runs vista 32 home premium, and both of our phones have an identical issue when trying to tether with it, meaning its not an issue with the phones. When connecting to PAM on her laptop, 7/10 time, it will go through the steps, and when the vista networking gets done with identifying, pulling an IP from the phone ICS, and checking for connectivity (which vista does by pinging a server by domain name to determine that the DNS is working in addition to the network being open) it will be up for a split second, then disconnect. Sometimes it will disconnect after Identifying, but before making the connectivity check. The rest of the time, it connects and works fine. We have tested other cables, and recently I tested it under safe mode with networking, and made my first progress.
Under Safe mode with networking, it will connect perfectly every time. The hard part now, is I do not know what program or device conflict could be causing it to disconnect immediately after completing connection. Has anyone had this issue and found any other programs or hardware to interfere?
I haven't had this proble in specific but I did have a problem with using ICS in vista to let my PS3 go online via my laptop using the mogule as my internet connection, in one instant it actually gave me the blue screen of death. I have to say that with Ubuntu and Vista the best way to use the phone as modem is to run ICS (on the phone) and hit connect (I'm speaking about the usb method) the phone will say check cable or something and then hook the cable up. This way has eliminated the quick disconnect witch i experience in Ubuntu a few times.
Hope this help
I managed to screw up my titan (again). I installed the ICS Control program to get wifi bridge mode because I was sick of using the USB cable to tether. It didn't work at all and I exited the program. Now my cellular internet does not work on the phone unless the laptop is connected via USB. I get "Page not found" errors otherwise. It says it's connected though (data arrows). It also works intermittently when connected to a wifi access point. Anyone know a fix to this issue?
I have the same problem on my N1
I am after some help .
My N1 on Optus is getting good speeds when tethered to my laptop but when not connected my 3g signal is dropping out .
I am using it tethered to post this @ 3kms from Adelaide CBD
I can't access webpages or market as it they keep coming up with network error retry .
I am able to access webpages & market on N1 whilst tethered
I have had good 3g signal till last few days i haven't changed Roms or anything like that recently .
Many Thank$ In Advance

What have you tried to do so far? I 'd would recommend you clear the cookies, cache and then delete your existing connections under settings and manage connections. When you see mange existing connections click on that and then tap and hold on the connection that is a present and select delete. (the connection with restore and do a force out to the internet to update your settings when you soft reset the device.
I've had this problem before but I forgot how to fix it
My internet went out about three hours ago so I'm posting from my phone. I'd really like urgent help as I have a job over the internet and I can't do it as long as my computer doesn't have internet.
When I use WMWifirouter with Windows 7, it seems to connect but it eventually shows the yellow triangle warning sign with the message "no internet access" next to the network name. I used to have this working both as a Wifi receiver and a 3g adapter, but one day it just stopped working. I really, really need help tethering my phone ASAP
If you need any other info just ask
Urgent??
You came to ask if someone would help you install an app designed for Windows Phone 6.5 onto an operating system that has no official apps and is not even released yet, and that you hacked onto your phone.
Would you like sugar with that? One lump or two?
If I find anything useful, I'll post it, lol.
What the hell are you talking about? Windows 7 is out and I see people using it on laptops at school. Also, I'm running the application on my phone and connecting it to my computer via USB. Make sure you know what you're talking about before you reply
I have my internet back, but I'd still like to know how to do this since this most likely will happen again

You're thinking he's running Windows Phone 7...he's referring to Windows 7...on his laptop.
doh
Reading is fundamental, my apolgies
Hi, I have the same problem, i am trying to get internet connection on my windows 7 laptop in work usink ICS and/or trial wmrwifirouter. Both ways, i get connection, either to wi-fi or usb, end also to 3G network on phone, but connection icon displays yellow triangle warning no internet access.
- in my next step i ran it on my virtual windows xp machine - the same thing
- I also noticed that pinging google.com resolved IP address, but requests timed out
I am coming from a g1 originally (back before cyanogen had 1000 followers), most recently a N1 (busted the screen last Friday, doh!). One thing I enjoyed is being able to tether to either of the old phones with wifitether. Lack of CM6 and a stable wifitether.apk for the vibrant leaves me unable to work while I am out and about without wifi access.
Did some reading around, and playing and this is what worked for me. I have a rooted vibrant (but this su shouldn't be needed), macbook pro, and os x 10.6.4.
*** Note: I had to have USB debugging enabled to get MacOS X to prompt setting up the vibrant as a USB modem. Not having this enabled didn't work.***
1. Connect your Vibrant to your Mac with the USB cable.
2. MacOS should prompt you saying that there is a device connected and not set up. If it does not, click on the Apple Menu, select system preferences. Select the Network pane.
3. The device should have been named as SAMSUNG_Android. Select it.
4. Start with the advanced options. Click the button that says 'Advanced.'
5. Under the Modem tab, use these options:
Model: SamsungModel: GPRS (GSM/3G)APN: epc.tmobile.comCID: 1
6. I left the DNS, WINS, and Proxies tabs alone
7. I read on a blackberry forum that under the PPP tab, 'TCP Compression' had to be checked.
8. Click 'OK' and return to the Network Pane.
9. I used these settings for the SAMSUNG_Android configuration.
Telephone Number: *99#Account Name: usernamePassword: password
*** Note: I remember from the pre-Android days that the username/password didn't matter. I believe the keys to it working on TMO are the number and APN, and most likely the Modem info. ***
This is what worked for me on Tmobile in Florida. Your mileage may vary. If you can get this to work with different settings, please share here.
Works like a charm! Thanks OP. This is being posted from my tethered Mac.

Oh yeah, and I'm not rooted.
will def have to check this out when I get home
I figured something like this would work, but I never really bothered past *99***#* GPRS/GPRS
Nice! Thanks! I was wondering if that would work when I saw the modem prompt pop up. I just didn't have time to chase down the settings. Works fine here.
I did some more reading on some old forums, and confirmed that the username and password are not important. They should work with empty fields.
It wouldn't work with me for blank U/P, but with 'username' and 'password', I am happily tethered.
Thanks, OP.

Good to know. Thanks for testing! The forums I was reading were old and for blackberries and winmo. Thought the settings wouldn't make a difference for the device.
This is the first time usb tethering actually works for me on any device. Even with usb tethering enabled in CM6 on my nexus one i could never get it to work, only wifi tethering did. Just did this, and i'm currently tethered. First time I plugged in my vibrant and that samsung_network popped up I had an idea I could tether but i never looked into it. thnx OP
Well, that tethering method is one that only works on PC's.
Anyone know if this works on Tiger 10.4? I dont seem to have the same options under the modem tab...i dont have samsung listed as a possible model, nor the gsm portion of the model or a place to put the apn?
Actually, if you set USB mode to Kies, tethering should work with Cradlepoint router or XP/Vista/7 with Kies Suite installed.
I tested it with Behold II (Samsung USB studio mode) and use Samsung Mobile Modem for setting up dial-up networking, and it works 100%.
No USB debugging required.
Running 10.6.4 and this works. Currently USB tethered and not rooted. Thanks OP!
Running 10.6.4
NOT rooted.
Got 1.6Mbit down and 1.2Mbit with 0 bars. (I know the bars aren't accurate but just saying that the signal isn't as strong as it could be) Faster than my cable upload.
Thanks OP!
Running 10.6.4.
Not working.
I get a message that says, "The communication device selected for your connection does not exist. Verify your settings and try reconnecting."
Question: In the network devices panes is the the 'SAMSUNG_Android' device connected with a green light before you hit the connect button. Mine is amber and the status is "Not Connected".
My other configured devices (Parallels Host adapter) are green and show connected statuses, even though I don't even have Parallels installed anymore.
Then again, I had all kinds of fits just making my sd cards mount on this mac. I think my phone is really defective. I still have one more day on my remorse period. Oh well.
How do I do this with a Windows PC? XP or Windows 7. Thanks!

Strange.
Mine is amber until it connects. Once connected, you have a call timer in the status bar, and the notification orb turns green.
I followed the instructions perfectly, and it works without a hitch.
You're just using 'username' and 'password'?
Oh, if you need to purge your system of Parallels (I recommend this), use AppZapper. I remember Parallels messed with my system settings and caused a number of issues. Alternatively, you could try reinstalling the latest OSX firmware update, or trashing the USB preferences and instructions to generate a new file.

Didn't need AppZapper, but getting rid of the Parallels connection fixed the problem!
Thanks!
