reason why we cant get permenant root - G2 and Desire Z General

guys i know this is not the place for general topics but i think that the reason everytime we boot after root we loose it because the system is all backed up in the phone internal memory i belive that the g2 has 4gigs of memory but why is it that we can only use 1.5gigs of the 4 come on guys think about it backing up the whole system can take that much memory out if we can somehow modify the system internal memroy and delete everything on it wouldnt that work and make our root stick. please dont flame me im only trying to help and cant accept the fact that we cant root anymore .

holySh!t that was funny LOL..... Classic, that was too good

Flame on!!

i gota admit it was funny but what did you guys think i know all the devs are hard at work but do you think it would work, once they find a way in the system.

you didn't have to make a new thread man. You could've just posted this in the G2 Root Thinktank thread (which is on thread #2 already) where many good developers and program buffs are collaborating to achieve Root. You won't get too many helpful replies like this. Just go into the thread and put in your 2 sense. Someone's bound to expand on your idea (hopefully).

that didnt work man thats why i had to make a new thread just so i can be heard

Idk, sounds to me like that might permanently break it
Don't forget to bring a towel

just modify the system memory not take every thing out . or atleast find where its backed up on the memory and delte it

But dude, that won't work. T-Mobile already admitted that a root-kit restores the system upon reboot!

i dont belive that crap they only said that to discourage us from trying.

You think they would lie? I mean, no one has found a permanent root, so there must be something to what T-Mobile is saying.

but dude, cyanogen already tweeted this! http://pastebin.com/cm75Z9UA

Nothing is "backed up." When you write to /system while you have temporary root, the write doesn't actually occur, but a bug makes Linux think it did, so it gets written to Linux's cache. So when the cache is flushed (like when a reboot occurs), you lose all your changes to /system.
See: http://pastebin.com/cm75Z9UA

I'm up for anything that may work, its an idea, still a long way off, without actually identifying the memory address where the recovery is stored its still a ways off, much less accessing it. Deleting or wiping it I would think would brick the device, seeing the encountered exception, not sure how it would handle it, maybe just hang at the recovery

that could be true but i think that they think we are getting closer to root so they said that to discourage us . and if we root it then all they will say it oh well we will try harder next time.

[Q] Safe to root a droid x?

I heard a while ago that if you root your droid x wrong/at all you will turn it into a brick and not be able to unlock it in anyway. Is this still true? I want to be sure I didn't pay 150$ for something that I am going to potentially turn useless.
There is always the slight possibility that any phone can be bricked, if you're too concerned about bricking your phone just leave well enough alone. No harm no foul right.
The Z4 root seems pretty fool proof, its mainly when you start doing themes and others hacks that you can really screw things up since you're messing with more files.

But in all seriousness, a true brick can not be reversed.
its very safe go for it. u r missing out on so much
I haven't heard of anyone bricking their phone by rooting... i used z4root...as long as you follow the directions while themeing your phone or flashing new roms i feel its pretty hard to brick your phone... each dev has instructions for flashing their rom and they seem to be all the same... some might not require you to wipe system as the rom will do that while its installing.. there are even videos on youtube for flashing roms... now if you did brick your phone you would have to sbf your phone and there are instruction on doing that online as well... you just gotta go for it as i think flashing a new rom is well worth it regardless of the rom you flash....

Yes and no... I believe what most people are trying to express here, is there are plenty of benefits to rooting your phone. However, if you truly are not computer/technologically savvy, I would advise you to wait before rooting. Do some reading around on the forums here. I feel like there have been a lot of people lately who have tried to root their phones, and make modifications to their phones that are a little over their head.
While yes, many times there are great instructions to follow so even those who are not super familiar with android or technology can still get by... But with that, many of the modifications involve doing some tasks that can be done (e.g. typing in a command wrong) that can result in damage to your phone.
I don't write this to deter you from wanting to modify your Droid X, don't get me wrong. I simply wish you the best with your modifications and advise you to do some research before jumping in head first.
Good luck, and if you have questions, feel free to ask. There are plenty of people here who are more than happy to help =)

I think most people get in trouble when they really start digging deep into the system files and don't know what they are doing. Flashing roms can be a bit scarry with a locked bootloader like the dx has. I suggest that you read all you can about the subject first, that helped me get comfortable with the whole process before I did it. Now I'm glad I did root. Z4 root is super easy, one touch, no computer needed pm me if you need the file.

Root XXLS8 ( easy way )

I know there are 2 methods mentioned here for rooting XXLS8 but this one is different
for this method , we gonna use SiyahKernel S2-v6.0beta4 which is originally done for XXLSJ ( leaked 4.1.2 )
but it's totally working for this Rom,too, I tested it and it's perfect !
Grab the kernel from here here

I don't think so, because every customization that you do will require root permission
and it will work when the phone is rooted, so when you un-root the phone
the customization will be gone.

Your customisation won't necessarily disappear, but the functionality will probably stop, with many mods requiring rooting in the first place. Anyway, why would you want to unroot after going to the bother of rooting and customising? The alterations possible are endless!

True indeed and worth a thanks. When I had the S3, the very first thing I made sure I had beside a nandroid, was an EFS backup.
I flash the BTU rom when it was still using the old Radio version.. I let it update using KIES.. and when I saw.. I was running the new version.. and had no backup of my EFS..
now I have several backups of it.. so I believe I'm ok.. but I can never go back..
and this was not caused by a lack of reading the stick posts :crying:

Like I said, I updated it using KIES.. I was not even reading XDA when I did it.. there was no warning.. I flashed an old, from 2012, ROM on the BTU CSC and after that started to update it using KIES, no custom recovery, no ODIN, nothing.
It was when I decided to use a modified touchwiz rom that I found this.. but that would be too late for me.. anyway.. my phone is working.. I have no problem with it and now I have several EFS backups..

I totally agree with OP and with you.. my arguments are: I was not aware of this issue because I was running the stock rom and it updated without I knowing that this was going to happen, just that
and I wish I was following XDA forums, because I would be able to predict that and make a backup.. just that
I believe I might not be the only user on that position here on the forums.. we started modding after the stock ROM was installed by Sammy on our phones..
When I bought my phone and it supposed to deliver at my office after 2 days. within 2 days I learned and downloaded almost everything which was necessary. I was able to do that ONLY BECAUSE OF this good forum. and I have never had any problems with my phone. I am keep flashing my phone every time someone will release new ROM with good features. and kernels as well.
So I also totally agree with OP...:angel:

I dunno then. I probably am on 5.3.1
This might explain why kingroot has been telling me for nearly a day I have root. I've forced stopped it, cleared cache and data, uninstalled and sometimes it still tells me I have root. However, I haven't connected to the PC to try that way since the new release. BTW no I don't have root...yet.
EDIT: Just tried. No root via PC. Did they do another update in the last 12 or so hours?

well i used the wrong wording by calling op a troll. that was not my intention. although in the end it doesnt really matter if it was intentional or just a mistake by op.

Question...does anyone know what signatures the bootloader accepts on Amazon tablets? I know they are supposed to be official. But what is defined as such...example: Would it accept a signature from Google?

Modify an APK. Run an exploit that way. Trick the CPU into installing an app it still thinks is 'official.' not sure how to gain root that way, but maybe we could modify an APK to be able to reinstall on /sdcard/ so it can uninstall itself. It's not root, but would at least get rid of the apps for a period.

You can't modify the apk without it modifying Amazon's signature. You can't reinstall system apps either in Fire OS 5.3.3 and above. Although you might be able to for one app, but I am not holding my breath.

I might have a way, but it isn't pretty. And I learned recently that some think it to be even more unethical than what we are already doing. So I won't post here.

Sure, what's your way? I might be able to help you out.
If we can read the signature from a stock rom and apply it to SuperSU.zip we could flash it through stock recovery
