need a working microphone app - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Having a huge party tonight at my apartment, one of my friends is a really sick at freestyling and we want to hook up my phone to my stereo and have him use my phone as a microphone. found two apps on the market, neither of which have worked. please! halp!

Why not use a microphone? If you don't have one i've found that if you plug a pair of headphones into the mic slot, one of the phones will work as a mic. Try not to use Big headphones (over head ones) or those little rubber plug ones that go completely in ear, the ones that work best are like normal stock iphone ones. I'm afraid i don't know any apps for what you need but you should get it to work with the headphone trick.

audio jack problems

hi, i got an imate jamin and i need to replace the audio jack were the handsfree pug in, do anyone know where i can find to buy this part please or if anyone had the same problem how did you solve it.
thanks guys!!
Dodgy Audio jack
My audio jack plug works fine BUT when I unplug the headset, the phone stays in headset mode i.e. no sound from the speakers. If I plug/unplug the headset a load of times it eventually goes back to normal.
Any ideas. My solution is never to use the audio jack!
Audio Jack
I've had two M600's which have done exactly the same thing, both replaced by Orange, I've now upgraded to an M700 and unlocked the old M600 with a PAYG sim and guess what that one has now lost speaker sound so that three with the same fault and this M600 has never had a headset plugged in.
Has anyone else had similar problems?
i had the same problem othillo before it broke so be carefull cause your is about to brake too, i mailed imate and they said the only way to fix it is to send it to them in dubai.. not relally keen to send it there .. but till today i havent find ther part any where it seems that imate dont send out parts ... as soon as i find an alternative i will post it here..
Is this problem caused by the connector itself or is it something else? If it is the connector I can buy a new one at the local hardware store and modify it a little bit to make it fit in my S200, probably going to replace it with an 3,5mm jack if that is possible...
it is caused by the connector in fact htc the original makers of the prophet on there new models they changed it to a usb connector for the handsfree i changed my connector many times with regulas 2.5mm connector but the sound doesnt work properly. what it does it comes out with out bass then when you push the talk button on the handsfree sound comes out good. another thing i noticed is if when you insert the jack plug in the connector and you pull it out a little bit the sound comes better and the talk button works, i know for fact cause i tried it that its not from the handsfee cause i tried it on another device and work properly. the actuall connector for them is different from what you find to buy even if you plug in normal 2.5mm headphone sound doesnt come out right . if you manage to make it work and modify the connector please post it here so who got the same prob like me can have an idea how to fix it... thanks
Audio Jack
Here is what the problem is:
Audio jacks have what is called a normally closed contact. Each contact point actually has 2 parts. In the closed (no headset) the 2 part of the contact point make contact (shorts). This enables the signal to pass through the jack to the phone speaker. When you insert a headset, the 2 points open (break contact) and signal only goes to the headset.
I'm talking from experience as a sound engineer for over 30 years and this is usually the problem 99% of the time when it comes to these type of jacks. One of the contacts (usually the ground when no sound or mic at all) breaks or can no longer "spring" back. I haven't opened mine yet but fully expect this to be the problem.

hi jsapper, i got what you saying and your absolutly right .. the thing i replaced mine 2 times now been done by a technician who fixes phones/pdas the thing with the connectors i replaced the device doesnt work properly sound comes out with out the bass and the talk button doesnt work .. i guess that the original part got some extra connectors or most probably the pins are switched around..
do you know if there is any special connectors for them...
I have a similar pb with my S200:
After running tomtom during 2000km installed on my motorbike w/ a 2.5mm headset, sound seems to no work anymore (neither back or ear speaker), I suppose that vibrations against jack connector are responsible.
With a bluetooth or wired headset sound works.
I have soft/hard reset, upgrade to last WM5 rom, upgrade to WM6 rom, I have tried to get in/out a 2.5mm jack connector without any result.
The ring facility is working (w/ or w/o 2.5mm jack connected), so I can say that the back speaker is working.
I am looking for a solution too...
nb: I have my back speaker + screen replaced one time after 2months.
Dean.
Have you try resolder the Connector?
it was to damaged to be resolded
Hi everybody,
I aswell have this kind of problem from time to time.My solution is quite simple. You have to use the original 2,5" jack with the 3 black "dividings".(sorry for my english) This solution reduced the problem dramatically. If the problem starts now, just plug it in and out a few times and it should work again.
Cheers
Phone Jack is a mechanical mess ...
Same prob, used the headset, rear speaker dead. I opened the prophet, unsoldered the jack and found it misconstructed.
The body of the jack is plastic and not capable to withstand the forces of a plugged in headset.
There are two integrated switches - which - when headset is unplugged are closed and deliver the signal to the speaker. one of the switches does not close anymore when the headset is unplugged. My first solution was to unsolder the jack and bridge the contacts 2 and 4 as welll as 3 and 5.
The rear speaker functions now and I can use the phone.
Next step will be to find a jack solution on the market to finally solve the problem. I will keep you informed!
thanks buzzi will be looking in here... for your post!
i had the same problem with my audio jack and i searched many forums for a solution. the only thing i can say: if you really want to use it and you want go back in normal mode after unplugging, take a little needle. if you look at the audio jack (USB is left to it) you have to stick the needle in the right side of the jack somewhere an search for a little contact (the first time hard to find, the second time easy) and try to push it a bit to the left. so the prophet goes back in normal mode. it sucks but i didnt find another solution...except for buying a bluetooth headset and use software to hear music over that (for mono headsets u can use a programm calles BTAudioToggel, but make sure u use the Toggle software, because there is another one called BTAudio, it sucks because it costs money and doesn't work for me so well)

Friends,
My prophet has exactly the same symptoms. However, I opened up the phone and carefully examined the jack. It is crap, sure, but at least on my phone it is not at fault. I tested with a continuity meter and the contact mechanism was working perfectly. Those who tried this measure without success read the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=281331
In my case it is definitely a problem with the speaker, and it seems to be eqaully common. It seems that there is more than one problem dogging the speaker of ths model.
mine's got the small contact switch problem.
it started last night! SO Annoying. Plugging a friend's original 2.5mm adapter in and out solved it temporarily. Then it went again! I have only got a 3rd party 2.5mm plug, and it took me ages to trip the small switch back with that. I have now got a BT headset on order.
Can't wait for the newer design HTC headphone adapter as I have had this problem with 5 different devices! (Tanager, Typhoon, Hurricane, Tornado and now Prophet.)
would agree with hybrid the needle trick fixed it ran media player so i could tell when it was working again. it was mentioned before that using the 2.5mm adaptor with ibky 2 rings as opposed to 3 causes this problem. I can identify with this as i have been using my dopod h/free with no problems for months i use the adaptor to plug in my headphones one time and get a eap of issues!
i will adapt a h/free to plug in some nicer headphones!
Can i use the USB connection as a handsfree port on my prophet?
Cheers
Hi, Prophet's USB is not a USB hub and thus not usable for connecting external devices - only way is bluetooth ...
thanks buzzi

Nexus One's Headphones - Broken

They were working great with the phone, I unfortunately had to get my phone replaced due to dust and still don't have it back, but I tried them with my computer and the sound is distorted. Tried another pair of cheap headphones and it sounds good.
How did they become useless after a little over a week...
I'll see how it sounds when I finally get a new phone back, my guess is that it will sound just as bad.
Anyone else have their headphones break?
Nope haven't had them break, but then again I've barely touched them since they're so infinetly terrible.
i think there is a short or something in them... mine shocked the **** out of my ear from the right bud till i finally bought me some other buds... they sounded horrid anyway
I have to assume your computer uses a 3.5mm jack with only 2 (3?) contacts... the n1 headphones are designed for use with 4... for the different pause/skip things I assume. I have to have them like half in to get them to work right on my pc... I suggest using normal headphones for the pc.
It is possible your headphones are in fact broken though.
What Wobblebonk said. Don't wory about the earphones, they're fine (unless you fried them with your computer, but that's highly unlikely).
They weren't designed for a 3.5 mm stereo socket (which only has three sockets) and as a result the computer probably just feeds one of the signal to the wrong contact on the earphones. That's why a "half-in" trick which Wobblebonk suggested, works (the contacts happen to align in just the right way).
Okay cool, hopefully I'll have my phone back soon then to use them again.
Too big for my ears, but thats okay, I have a far better set of ear buds anyway. And for when i'm feeling extra nerdy, I got my AKG studio's

Why cant I use speakers or tape deck adapter without my HD going nuts?

Hey odd question, lately when I plug in speakers or a tape deck adapter to my HD 2, it will close out whatever program switch to music, then it will cycle music like crazy. Kinda like if its getting a signal to switch tracks etc. Anyone know what could be causing this? Using Energy Rom.
Because the HD2 uses a headset with media controls, and most likely it is getting false signals from your speakers, also the headset jack is a microphone jack not just speakers, you cannot just plug stereo speakers into a jack that has contacts for , controls, mic , and sound ...
Thats odd when you say that tho.. cause I use use Nokia MD 4 (With the FM ant able in the cord) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...9&cm_re=nokia_speakers-_-75-975-079-_-Product
The HD2 works fine.. just anything else messes it up. So what is everyone using in the car and so?
I plug my FM transmitter into the headphone socket in the car,and use
2 different types of headphones,a generic in ear set and some
folding Sennheisers, neither give me any issues, they just work....
I use a set of travel speakers plugged straight into the HD2 speaker jack & everything runs fine.
I plug it into my stereo and it works 100%
I sometimes get the crazy behaviorwith common headphones. It's fine 99% of the time, but sometimes in the pocket the plug will start doing some bad contacts, and then it starts switching tracks, or even calling the last number...
Need to remove the headphones, wait a moment till it processes the ton of "false commands" that were sent, and plug again. Sometimes a reboot is needed too.
Youd think there could be a fix or on cooked roms a way to disable inputs from the headphone socket.
I guess I should have been a little clearer what I said, ...
and yes I typed it hard to understand ....
Some speakers work, some don't , some will give you false inputs, others will not ....
Most small portable speakers will not ...
I tested this theory just a little while ago ...
My regular headset from my mp3 player works fine ...
1 out of 2 sets of computer speakers I have makes my HD2 freak out ...
I tried my travel speakers again and they were fine, so I have tried my brothers portable speakers that are a different make, they too work fine. I have just tried it with my big house speakers and again fine.
Thinking about it, my Omnia & my HTC P3600 both came with headphones that had a microphone & control buttons on & I never had any problem plugging them into any speakers, same as I don't with my HD2 so I'm sure it can't be the phone & must be a rom issue or something like that I guess.
Sorry I can't be more helpful with an answer, but hopefully the tests I've just done will help in some way.

Third party earphones dont work for calls!!!

I have a little problem with the way my SGX works with third party headphones.
When listening to music, everything is fine. Crystal clear sounds from the OS and from music.
However when I recieve a phone call, the sound wont come out of the headphones, forcing me to pick the phone up to my ear, which is of course exceptionally annoying.
Am I just missing a setting or could this be a problem with the firmware? I did reflash it.
Na it's a probleme with the jack allignement. Unless ur using Nokia or stock earphones u'll have this probleme (if i'm not mistaken, and i hope i am cuz it is annoying).
A workaround is using a nokia headset kit (ad-54/57 or whatever, remote won't work though), remove the crappy earphones and put ur good ones.
Might get a long cord though.
It would be perfect for me if the remote functions were to work, would make my day.
I think small adaptors exist also, but i'm not sure at all about that
But I dont understand how it works brililantly for everything else but calls? That makes no sense.
And it doesnt just give crappy audio quality, there is no sound coming out of the earphones at all.
I actually hook it up to my car stereo as a makeshift car kit and has worked fine for everything but calls.. it cant be the jack alignment because then nothing would come out when playing music etc.. right?
I discovered the same (stock firmware). It's strange.
Excellent sound for Music and events, but no sound at all only when being called.
But do you say you CAN use the Samsung supplied earphones in that situation?

Inline remote and mic headphones don't work

Here's another problem I found, the standard inline earphones with mic and single button doesn't work.. it worked just fine on my Desire HD and nexus S as well as nexus one..
I tried 2 different ones, my guess is that the Atrix headphone jack only has audio out.
if you guys have found otherwise let me know how I can get that to work..
if in fact the Atrix is only audio out on the headphone jack I'll definitely return it tomorrow and get something else..
I just grabbed an iPhone headset (stereo) and made a call and it worked great.
I'm having this same problem. I used a pair of SkullCandy 50/50 and only got audio. The mic was still working on the phone, and the buttons on the headphones didn't do anything.
I have ibeats headset, everything works on DesireHD and my iphone. but for some reason none of it works on the Atrix.. beh..
I dug out an old pair of headphones that came with a Palm Pre, and the mic works on that. The button also brings up a menu to start a voice program. They do not have volume buttons so I cannot test that.
This is really going to annoy me if this phone can only use crappy headsets.

Was this a standard one that comes with the iPhone? Do the volume buttons do anything?
Skullcandy FMJ w/mic
I have the skullcandy full metal jacket w/mic and it works fine. Although when I first inserted the jack into the plug (*beavis laugh) the phone still played music out of the speaker(s) on the phone. So I pulled the plug out and reinserted while twisting the plug. Dont push too hard cuz it seems the plug does not go all the way in. The curve on the case near the jack makes it appear that it is not fully inserted. Try cleaning your plug as well.
Both headphones i tried stick out of the phone a little bit, and the same amount. Plus audio works on both, I would think that audio would not work if one was not plugged in correctly

Just tested and the volume buttons don't do a thing.
I tried "removing" vlingo and voice commands/search, but still can't use the remote button on my headphones.
might have bad jack
The jack might be broken or not connected well. It is a modular piece that can be removed without de-soldering if you take the phone apart you can test each ring on the plug/jack for continuity by touching the meter to the springy metal contacts that touch the circuit board. I would just do a return or atleast have att try other headphones. Im not sure about the volume control but the single button on my mic controls everything including media forward reverse and pause. I can even get vlingo and google voice search to come up ( a long press on the other hand opens the media application).
Old thread... but for future reference, Motorola switched the headset pinout on this phone and the Xoom. You'll have to ask the Cliq guys what they use, or you could wire a adapter cable up.
I can't post links, but look up the Motorola OH20 and motorola.com /Support/CA-EN/OMTP-Headset-Support
Wow, that is kinda retarded that moto did that. I'd never even heard of OMTP until just now. Seems MOTO is the only one that does this. Some 'open' standard. Seems the only way around it would be to use a B headset.
Wired Headsets Don't work due to OMTP
Well...
I am a huge fan of Bluetooth technology and have just about every kind of handsfree, however I was really looking forward to the 3.5 mm jack. There are some pretty impressive headsets available.
This is what I found about OMTP:
http://www.motorola.com/Support/CA-EN/OMTP-Headset-Support
Here is an option I am pursuing:
http://www.nox-audio.com/Products/OMTP-Adapter-16
I hope this helps...

This isn't the problem. I have a xoom and the same headset can play/pause.
So, no solutions to this except for spending another 50 bucks to buy a new head set that's omtp compatible?
I have a set of ear buds rat came with a blackberry bold from work. It only has a single button but it does do play/pause in winamp and the mix works. There is a post in the accessories section with some options and reports of ways working for everyone.
Sent from my Atrix using XDA Premium.
tried:
a iPhone 3g earphone with only one button works fine for me.
several iPhone 3gs 3-button earphones - don't work at all, even the mic
