I love the MIUI roms other than one aspect - the dialer. Is there any way to completely replace this with either the default Android dialer or HTC's? I have installed Dialer One over the top but all this does is alter how a call is made but the in call screen and receive call screen (slide up/down to answer etc) stays the same.
Cheers in advance.
Can anyone help with this? I'd love to get HTC's dialer working on this build.

I'm pretty sure there's a way to do it. I currently have an Xperia x10 and I've replaced the Phonebook.apk file (Located in /system/apps) with a modded one. I'd imagine the same concept can be applied to a cooked HD2 ROM. The only problem is if a dialer has dependancies with other services (Like sense dialer), you may come across issues.
No.
HTC uses htc libraries. You won't get them working on another rom.
(That's why you never see HTC apps outside sense )
You can, however, download dialer one or similar from market - or push the stock apk file
I recommend you use rocket dialer
you can find it from the market
Try "go contacts". Best dialer/contacts replacement imho.

Hey guys would like to try some different dialers but am unable to find HTC Dialer to uninstall. It's not listed in the remove programs folder. Can I jus delete it from the windows directory? Need help with this one.
Why do you want to delete HTC dialer?
Just install the dialer you wanna have...
HTC dialer is ROM-build-in... you can´t delete....

Sorry about the double post....You have to uninstall it first or the replacement won't be fully functional.

Who told you that??
Just install over it.
If it doesn't look good then you have to change ROM.

Okay i'll give it a shot. I decided to stay with a locked unit, I never unlocked my 6800 but I'll try it out. Thanx
er, just to clarify, you're partially right that you have to uninstall a previous dialer skin before you install a new one. HOWEVER, that is only if you added a new one already. let me explain.
your system begins with the standard Touch Dialer, so that's the default dialer. you can just install a dialerskin (let's call it, Dialpad A) over it. however, when you want to switch to something like Dialpad B, you'll have to uninstall Dialpad A (you'll end up with Touch Dialer), and then install Dialpad B. hope that makes sense, i probably made it more complicated

Yea makes perfect sense because I pretty much figured that out. Thank You anyway.
Sorry i know this thread is 1 year old, but i didn't want to create a whole new one for the same topic.
So i have my HTC Vogue (XV6900) CDMA and i want to replace the HTC dialer.
I Like that HTC Phone canvas with slide to answer that's floating around the internet, i found a QVGA version but when i installed it, it didn't look right, it was all messed up.
is there any other way to install this particular dialer without custom rom?
I was wondering if it's possible to disable the HTC dialer on my Hero. To use only the default from Android Vanilla.
I try to search but only with Win Mob, has anyone know how to disable this app?
thanks
i believe another ROM is in order. From what i understand, the HTC dialer is actually the standard Android dialer redesigned / rewritten by HTC as well as most apps (yay open source) not some cover-up like they did with winmo....
(correct me if im wrong...)
I am running darchstars AOSP2.1 ROM and I have two questions for any enterprising devs, if they have time or can tell me the way to do it.
1)I went from using the stock keyboard to betterkeyboard back to the HTC keyboard. In better keyboard you can adjust the vibration for each keypress to be short, is there a way I can change the HTC keyboard to that as well? I'm not afraid of the command line, but I have no idea where I might start with this.
2)I much prefer the HTC dialer app, with the smart dialing. Is there a way to use that instead of the stock android dialer, or a different dialer replacement that has similar functionality?
Thanks again for any responses!

Basically what you want is Gumbo Bare on 2.1?
I'm also interested in this. I'm playing around with an Odroid running AOSP 2.1, I've gotten google bits to run on it, I found a package that includes the framework etc, and works exactly like it should. Very easy to install.
Finding a similar package for senceUI would be of interest to me.
The ability to take a vanillia AOSP add any flavor I want, google bits, SenceUI, Moto Blur... or anything else would be very nice IMO. Instead of the current... I like this rom because it has.... but I wish it had..... Put it together like lego blocks.

Well, not really. I'm looking for a way to edit the HTC keyboard haptic feedback if there's a way, and to find a replacement dialer for any AOSP ROM since I personally don't like the stock one. The keyboard is a little more important to me, but I was just hoping somebody might know what I'm looking for.

Look through the 2.1 compatible MetaMorph themes.
My TMO Nexus One should be here Tuesday. I've played around with various android versions on my HTC Pure. My neighbor/friend has the N1 and 2 things I think I am concerned about is the Dialer and Keyboard.
The HTC Dialer and Keyboard is really nice. Can I just install them as packages vs having to flash the whole rom? Being a WM chef I know the Keyboard and Dialer can be complicated packages to move from device to device... but figured I'd research it before hand.
All my searching points to its not out yet... but they were from like Feb. Any update?
The HTC keyboard can just be added by installing an app. And a better speed dialpad called dial one is free in the market.
Dialer one is a kick ass dialer and installs and uninstalls like any other app. Swype would be my choice of keyboard. Check the thread down in apps for the latest download links.
yea I found Dial One. Seems like a good alternative. I don't like Swype. I used to cook it in my roms for a while there but found the HTC keyboard has a better dictionary.
I can probably get by with Dial One and the HTC keyboard app. Thanks!
Does anyone know what version of the HTC messanger is and where I could possibly find a cab file to install it? it's partially installed in the energy rom but when you click all messages it goes back to the default WM one which I don't like, if found the cab for the version that's stock on the HD2 which is of course extremely laggy, this version however is not laggy while keeping the hole contacts linking thing of the HTC messanger.
is there not an update on htc's website?
I wonder about this as well...

That's Manilla messaging that is part of the Sense UI. It's not a fully integrated messaging as you will find in Sense 2.5 roms. NRG removes HTC messaging from his roms but that portion of it can still be accessed when using messages from Sense home screen. It's the same thing with Sense 2.1 for TP2 & earlier devices.
There are full HTC messaging .cabs available in the apps & themes forum, look for the HTC Messaging 2014 thread, but it's not going to look like that.
