"How do you flash a kernel using clockworkmod"?? - Epic 4G General

I'm pretty sure that you download a file to your sdcard, boot up clockworkmod recovery, and install it from there you previously saved...??? Am I correct in my assumption?

Are you selecting flash zip from sd card or apply update.zip? You need to flash from sd card and it needs to be in the root oid card

rom manager wont reboot to recovery

Is there a particular reason why quickboot and rom manager won't boot to clockwork?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Well is your rom compatible with rom manager and did you flash the epic version in rom manager?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I did the one click flash not sure about the rom though...ill check on that
Its the experience rom didn't see anything in the op about compatibility
Anyone know?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
That might be the reason try noobnl's anormedia rom I'm pretty shure its compatuble did you do the one click clockwork too?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Go into the clockwork mod app and click flash clockwork and choose epic but make sure that the rom zip is on the root of your sd card not a folder. Yeah the epic experiance rom never says anything about being compatible with clockwork tho.

Yes I did one click clockwork as well

To be able to use rom manger to reboot into recovery you need to have a boot kernel that works with rom manager. If you flashed recovery the only way to get to it is by the volume down camera buttonv power button combo. Using quick boot or adb reboot recovery will take you into stock recovery in the boot kernel if you do this you need to select the flash update.zip line in recovery to get into clockwork.

Clockworkmod

Hey guys I have been trying to install a rom using clockworkmod recovery but when I install from sd card it runs the process them says installation aborted every time.
Locked bootloader
Clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.7

Maybe the Rom you install is not for Locked bootloader
It's my understanding that the roms that you use with a locked bootloader aren't flashable, but are to be used as a nandroid backup. In other words, the roms that you must flash are just for those with unlocked bootloaders.
I'm trying to install cola rom which is meant for locked bootloader

I'll have to look at that

You seem to be trying to flash the zip of Cola, instead of unpacking it, and moving to /mnt/sdcard/ClockwordMod/backup/
What I am trying to do is to restore rather than flash but I do not have rom manager premium
I'm using rom toolbox
Sent from my R800x using xda premium
You don't need to use rom manager or rom toolbox. After you unpacked the zip file, place it in /clockworkmod/backup and if it doesn't exist, make it! After having the folder in the backup folder, get into your clockworkmod recovery and use the backup and restore menu there to restore.

Was just about to post the same thing.
Anyway, if you are having trouble booting into recovery, open a terminal, and type in adb shell reboot recovery and your device will reboot into the recovery console.
Thanks for the advice guys ill see what happens

I did what you said but it just says adb permission denied

Never mind already got it and its 100% working =]
I've actually never had the reboot recovery command work, even from the terminal on the phone.
Anyway, I'm here to correct that last command. You will either use
adb shell
reboot recovery
or
adb reboot recovery
Although an access denied error would mean that you need superuser privileges to correctly run the command. I don't remember if it's needed to reboot to recovery, it's just instinct for me to hit su when I use terminal or adb.
Problem is my computer crashed so I can't unpack cola6, meaning I can't place the folder in clockworkmod/backup

If you have it on your phone you can unpack it using ROM Toolbox.

Stock recovery

i have CWM flashed on to my NS4g.I created a stock nandroid. When i flashed the stock nandroid CWM did asked me about flashing recovery and then did the reverse psych thing it does (thousand no's one yes.) Anyway I apparently clicked the wrong one and am stuck with CWM. I tried loading another nandroid, then reloading the stock and i didn't even get the option. So know i'm wondering how to get stock recovery back.

I read somewhere that you need to flash a stock recovery image via fastboot for stock recovery.

CWM stuck trying to install ROM

OK. Tried to install CM11 on my phone today. Stupidly tried with ROM manager. The flash failed. I tried to go back to recovery but each time I boot to recovery CWM tries to flash the same ROM. So I couldn't get back into cwm to nandroid restore. Tried re-flashed cwm with Odin but still would try to install the ROM at recovery. Had to flash twrp clear everything re-flash my original ROM and titanium backup restore. Any ideas how I can stop cwm from trying to re-flash the problem ROM if I go back to cwm recovery??

Hi,
What phone variant do you have?
i9505 or i9505G?
Maybe you can find where the recovery script is located that CWM is trying to open? Then delete that file so CWM won't be able to take orders from it.

It's the i9505 but with the Google version of 4.4.2

That's what I was guessing but have no idea where this is stored. It's pretty low level so I'd be surprised if it was file based.

Hi
Yes - used the wipe option inside CWM
It may have been a problem with the download file - will retry
Have you deleted the ROM or any files that CWM can reference?
