Hey guys, i got the update and so far so good. One thing i noticed is that it takes a longer swipe to unlock the screen now. Anyone notice that?
hi there, i don't have an update yet but can i ask what's your phone status?
are you rooted or running a stock vibrant?
Totally stock
this showed up in the JI5 update as well

FYI
Just installed the OTA a couple of hours ago, I noticed no difference in the distance it takes to swipe to unlock.

Same here.
There's a huge difference in the swiping distance required to unlock the screen. I got the update and noticed it right away (I'm completely stock). Since my girlfriend's Vibrant hasn't received the OTA yet, we ran a test to compare. From placing your finger at the lower left hand corner of the screen and swiping to the upper right hand corner, I am required to swipe approximately 75-80% of the distance to unlock my screen whereas my girlfriend's Vibrant is only required to swipe half (50%) the total diagonal length of the screen.
Huge difference when you're used to unlocking "the lazy way."
I am also noticing more overall lag (in the browser and especially in the gallery) but need more time to play with it. GPS is better though.

That's it someone call T-Mobile and tell them to pull the update, it's to much work to unlock the phone now ......
This has been since JI2 not an issue , just something to get used to ... deal with it ... now that they fixed everything else people nit_picking!!!! and this after most of you said no update would come or GPS is a hardware problem .......
I mean come on people .:.....:......:.

Well I never said any of that, and I also never complained about my GPS... but rock on with your bad self, Danzone.
Anyway, attached is a pic comparing finger position after a successful unlock. Again, starting from the lower left hand corner and swiping to the upper right hand corner.
OK, so I am not the only one. With the amount of times i have to swipe my screen to unlock it daily, this is a major annoyance. The motion is literally double if not more.
I have noticed that the swipe is longer ow, but other than that no issues. no lag and gps is perfect now. used odin.
I noticed that when I flashed JI2. Takes a lot of more effort to unlock. Didn't bother me much, I got used to it.
I flashed Bionix, which is based on JI6, and have the default lock screen. It's much better than the one that comes w/ touchwiz.
Yes, this is extremely annoying. For a while I couldn't even figure out why my phone wouldn't unlock. I thought it was a bug. Actually, I still consider this a bug.
Are you kidding me? People this day and age are getting lazier and lazier..
I noticed this too, but I can get used to it. I'm just happy to have a working GPS device!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yep, totally longer, though I imagine I'll acclimate in a few days. Odin update was cake.
Just go the shortest distance possible which is from exact left to exact right.
I also would suggest flashing a custom rom like bionix 1.7 to make unlocking the phone considerably easier (as well as other benefits of course).

Well im assuming hes talking about this recent update ERE36B. Cause im not sure if OP has rooted. hmmm
I am more concern about the touch screen problem. Not the Multitouch one, but the one about the touch screen goes crazzzy (seriously a phone that is operate completely by touch screen and the touch screen is not reliable??? what the heck is Google/HTC thinking?). That is the main thing that is keeping me from this phone.

I'd be curious to see the actual number of people suffering from this problem since so few people are complaining about it. Mine doesn't have this issue.
My screen goes crazy.
Every day or so ill turn the phone on where the top half of the screen wil be fine, but the bottom half will be out of calibration by about an inch. I'll feel the vibrate from the Buttons at the bottom when im clearly about an inch about them. Reboot fixes

i must be one of the few people who are lucky as well. I don't have the screen calibration error. Every blue moon the wrong spot will light up but i just have to press it again, no need to exit out of app or reset. I've only had my n1 for a 1 1/2 months, i was not one of the early adopters, if that means anything.
Also, no screen calibration issues. Hope the new OTA opens up the rest of the N1 Ram!

The only screen issue I have is when I am using the phone via BlueTooth and need to Mute the phone.. when I hit the Mute button, it presses the 0 button instead. I just have to hit power to turn off the screen for a few seconds and turn it on and it works as expected again.

I have issues with touchscreen stuff all the time. When I type fast I'll get all kinds of errors... I also have the issue when sometimes no matter where I click on the screen it only hits the home button... I really hope this gets cleared up.
Well I must have very bad luck because this is my second N1 with the problem.Return the first one 00 because the screen craziness and receive a new one 01 (different badge) and also has the problem. But I'm keeping this one, anyway is rooted already and notices is better way better, but the problem still here, but just ,put it to sleep and wake-up and fix it.I don't know the cause of this if software or hardware but definitely not everybody has it.I downloaded a drawing app from the market and I can see that when the problem I touch someplace near the middle of the screen and it recognized the touch as a straight line all the way to the bottom.

And I always make sure I'm not making contact with the screen with the palm or anything else.
Picked up the Iconia today and am loving it so far except for the fact that the screen seems, to put it mildly, a little unresponsive.
When changing home screens it can need 2 or 3 swipes to get it to change, typing is very difficult with me having to jab at the letters rather than just touch and things such as Astro are difficult to use because the level of pressure required to scroll the screen up and down is actually selecting the folder instead.
Is this related to a screen coating because it is new, or did I get a dodgy one?
Any thoughts/experiences

Unresponsive Screen?
Maybe you got a defective unit?
I've had mine for a week now and the screen has been a high note for me both in clarity and responsiveness.
I agree with bahurd - I sometimes accidentally almost brush my thumb on the screen - so lightly I don't even feel it but I know I touched it - and it causes things to happen.
Oh dear, looks like an iffy one, pcworld here I come
Can't say I agree actually.. the longer ive had mine (almost 2 weeks now) the buggier and slower it seems. In fact Im typing now and there's quite a delay in how quickly the words appear on screen. I'm using the mortorola BT keyboard designed for xoom. I did a factory reset last night and rerooted, applied my live wallpaper and reinstalled my apps using TiBu and I am back to being as slow and laggy as before. I didnt restore all apps and I really dont have that many. I have 13 gb of free space since everythings on the ex_sd.. I'm getting very discouraged and have till wednesday to decide to return it..
Make sure you've taken off the green metallic sticker from the right bezel. If it's too close to the actual display, it interferes.

I have noticed the screen to be very responsive. I have had mine for about 5 days and I am getting very used to the typing, so much so that I am almost as fast as I would be on regular keyboard, so the screen can certainly keep up and discrimnate those different points with accuracy and speed.
Definitely an issue then, there is no way I could touch type on it, without a good stab the key won't recognize the input.
I have no problem at all with the screen responsiveness .
The only problem i have is the keyboard who take ages to type letters in some forums.
I think it's honeycomb problem not iconias
I've caught my finger on the hand i'm holding the tablet with barely on the bezel interfering with scrolling. It might be an app flooring the processor, other then that I got nothing. Mine has worked well I can even type with two hands like a full keyboard without issues.

I have noticed on my A500 that if my hands are extremely dry the screen doesn't respond well. I checked and when that is happening it is the same with my phone. Try a little hand lotion (not so much to smear up the screen) and see if that helps. You should NEVER have to jab at a capacitive screen to get it to work. That is why they don't use resistive screens any more, they required pressure to operate, the capacitive doesn't.
Well, a good reboot seems to have solved the issue.
Now enjoying a very responsive touch screen experience.
Just one suck pixel now, but as it only appears when the screen is black I think I can live with it.
Having owned the Asus Transformer before this, I can honestly say I can't see much of a difference in screen quality.
Excellent stuff.

Capacitive Screen
Having read the above posts this seems as good a thread as any to write about my problem. I say problem but I'm not certain whether this is "operator error" or possibly an iffy screen. I bought my A500 5 weeks ago at Stap*** on the first day they went on sale there, well pleased with it, a really good machine. Just so that you all can picture it, it's rooted using gingerbreak - new bootup screen compliments of gammaRascal - and all apps I don't use "frozen" so they don't use reources. In the last 4 to 5 days my touchscreen has been getting "lazy", as was already mentioned 2 or 3 swipes to change pages, quite often not responding in good time to tapping - "sticking" when scrolling up or down a page of information. I said "op error" because like kwparker80 I thought it might be dry fingers or possible sticky fingers and whilst I don't necessarily discount this I'd like to hope that was the problem not a malfunctioning screen. My question is have any of you faced this problem about 5 or 6 weeks after purchase? By the way NO screen protector applied.
You all can try this app. It's called Touch Recalibrate. When I had a NookColor, it worked wonders. I uploaded it to my dropbox.

Multitouch Visible Test
With that app, 1-finger touch is alright, no issues.2 Fingers seems alright too. Adding up to 4 fingers seems to be alright and moving them around the screen.
Sometimes with 5 fingers though, they'll all show on the program, and then immediately vanish. If I keep moving my fingers across the screen, they'll pop in and out, but won't actually stay on screen and follow. But this only happens sometimes. Other times, 5-finger input works fine.
My other camera is dead at the moment and I have to run and get batteries for it tomorrow, so I can't actually upload video of what I mean. I was hoping to get some input from other people about how their multi-touch seems to be with that app. Not entirely sure if this is just a rare defect, widespread, or working as intended maybe (not entirely sure if there's anything saying how much multi-touch this screen is; figured it was 10 though)
Some things to try:
- Use 1 finger, drag it all over the screen
- Keep adding fingers 1 by one after dragging them across the screen (add finger, drag it around, add next finger, etc.)
- Don't touch the screen for about 3 seconds, then just have all 5 fingers come in-contact with the screen, and keep them in one spot (on mine most of the time, the points appear then immediately vanish)

It could be as simple as compatibility issues with the app...
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Called up Google and it doesn't seem to be widespread (or at least the person didn't say it was), and I could get a replacement under warranty. I don't have the funds to put on hold currently so it'll have to wait if I do decide to do it.
Although I wonder if I really should, I mean I highly doubt I'm going to do anything requiring more then 2 fingers on the screen at any point (nor can I really think of anything), and aside from multitouch, everything else seems great. No dead pixels, back doesn't flex, screen is alright quality-wise.
Would be nice if some other people can try out multitouch though just to see if it really might be widespread or not though. The thing is though, it works fine sometimes, and other times it doesn't. Perhaps software might fix it in time, but I don't know. I thought I heard of the Nexus 7 having a similar issue, but I can't recall...

It seems to do the same even with the "Show touches" option enabled in Developer options (tried it on an empty homescreen).
Bump
Anyone? It only takes a minute or two at the most to test this... and the apps available to do so are free and light.
Doing the tests you described never caused anything on my tablet. But if I put my hand down on the tablet flat then put my five fingers on I get your issue. Then wait three seconds and try again and everything is fine till I put my palm back on.

How about fruit ninja, does that work properly? It's true that if show touches doesn't work, it's not a good sign. Unless it's a system firmware bug
1 and 2 fingers seems to work great in Fruit Ninja; 3+ randomly works or doesn't work, and when it does work it seems to cut-out at some point and then just show slashes delayed from where my finger is currently
Any idea if its hardware or software related? I have the same issue with my N10 and don't know if I should get a replacement or not.
Got mine today, same issue. Actually, that too bad since everything works fine, and i only got a minimal light bleed. I hope my replacement won't be worst regarding light bleed :/
Same issue on mine. Considering a replacement now with this and wakeup lag + battery issue (indicator not updating % at all!?)
Don't know if I wasn't lucky or just poor QA.
I'm pretty sure it is a software thing because when the problem occurs and I tab on the multitasking button twice (so it shows the multitasking menu and switches back to the app) the touchscreen acts normal again until I put more than three fingers on screen.
But if its a software problem, shouldn't it happen to on every N10 running the same Android version?
I have the same issue. If I slowly add one touch at a time, it usually works. But if I touch down 3+ fingers at once it gets very confused and bounces between zero and N touches. I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 (first generation) and multitouch seems to work much better on it than the Nexus10. However, I did notice that the Nexus10 is better at distinguishing 2 very close touches than the GTab. On the Nexus10 I can have my fingers as close as 1/2 inch or so before the touches merge. On the GTab it is more like 3/4".
Hmm, kind of interesting to see that others are also having a similar issue.
I noticed that when I tried a custom ROM (latest Kernel sources + 4.2.1), the multitouch seemed to work, slightly better (the issue still occurs, just maybe not as much). Not too sure if it was placebo or what though.
I called the support and will replace mine with a new one. It might be just a software issue thats solved with an update but I don't want to risk it.
just got my replacement today, same issue (and also worst light bleed ). Third replacement on this way...
I have a small line on my screen that is unresponsive. It goes straight across the top of the screen exactly where the install button is in the play store (about 1" from top of screen at roughly 1/4" thick). Its in a pretty awkward spot and causes a lot of problems. For some reason it has also disabled the tap to wake feature of my phone.
I installed the "Touch Test" app which shows that my entire touch screen is working. However it shows the phone recognizing 2 pointers (touches) being active whenever I touch that area of my screen. I've been having this problem for 2 or 3 months now and all of a sudden today on my lunch break it went away. I was able to tap to wake the screen (worked perfectly the 20 or so times I attempted it), I was also able to hit the install button in the play store and life was great... Or so I thought. A few hours later on my next break my phone went back to annoying piece of junk that I completely dislike using.
Now I dont know exactly when this started happening. I did notice it sometime soon after the 4.4 update, and flashing a custom rom/kernel has made no improvement. Anyone got any ideas? I loved this phone before this started, and my phone is so frustrating now that I completely disrespect the thing and have scratched the crap out of the screen. I'm really hoping this can be fixed so I can go on with enjoying whatever life I have left with the g2, if not I'll probably just abuse it until it breaks then switch over to a water proof z2 or something along those lines... Phone was very well taken care of before the problem started, wasnt dropped or exposed to water (other then using outside in the rain for a few min at a time)

I have this problem too, any fixes?
Well I am in shock as to how we all have the same exact problem.
I first thought it was hardware failure on the screen itself and was pretty bummed. But now I see people have the exact same unresponsive touch screen in the exact same spot as mine? What ROM/Kernel are are you guys running? I am running what is in my sig and had not noticed it before until a couple of days ago. Coupled with the unresponsiveness, my Knock on does not work and the phone becomes mildly warm faster than usual. I think it might be a kernel software issue.
Ugh... I was hoping this wouldn't turn in to this big of a problem. I've got the same thing here, VS980 after flashing a Cloudy ROM.
I took over a thread here recently http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52858791 , but I'll post here again anyways. I wonder if it's the same spot with you guys too. It's right where the install button is on the Play Store, right? For a few hours after it started it went back to normal, then messed up again permanently.
TOT'ing back to 12B didn't help, so I got a replacement device from Verizon. I've yet to send back my old one because I'm worried about the unrooted flag in the bootloader and settings.
I don't have enough posts yet to be able to do this, but can someone alert a dev about this? Particularly in the thread of whatever ROM it was that you last used? A lot of people in the last thread said it came from Cloudy, and I figured it might make sense as Knock Code was supposed to be a feature on there even though the VS980 source wasn't out. Then again I probably have no idea what I'm talking about, but I'd love to hear from someone who does.
I dont think my blacked out area is quite as thick as yours but yes its in the exact same place. To confuse things even more my phone just started working properly again (for how long is another story). Its very odd that It hasnt worked once in 2 months or so and now twice in 2 days its started working.
As a side note I'm pretty sure I started having this problem immediately or very shortly after the OTA kitkat update. I'm now running cloudypro II 2.0 with 3.4.0 kernel, which as i said before didnt fix the problem in the 1 month ive been using this rom.
I originally thought it may have been a software issue, but for it to randomly start/stop working all of a sudden after so long of no function (with no software being added or changed) I'm thinking its more likely a hardware problem? When I fly home on Monday I'm going to try opening up the phone and cleaning the contacts to the from the touchscreen to the mainboard.
If it is software related it may have something to do with air plane mode. I get almost no signal where I'm working at the moment and the constant searching for signal kills my battery pretty fast so I've started using air plane mode the past few days. Thats the only thing out of the ordinary that i've done software wise.
Having the same issue!!

Yes, we've sent it to LG for repairs and they were able to fix it easily.
Sfkn, was your phone rooted when you sent it to them? I'm having the same issue, and it either started happening today, or I just noticed it today, but it's bugging the crap out of me. I'm running stock kk, rooted with twrp and on the cloudyfa kernel.

Had the same today but at the middle of the screen, I pressed on the corners and around the screen pretty hard and it is back to normal(for now).
Hope it wont come back.
You can unroot the device by flashing original rom with LG flash tool.

Not how convenient is the placement - I can tell that in store, what I can't tell and most reviews doen't mention is mean how quickly and reliably does it recognise your fingerprint and how often does it miss, particularly are there any circumstances under which it consistently has trouble?
My current phone is a Galaxy S8, before that I had a Pixel. I plan on getting a new one in the next month or so, short listed to Galaxy S10+ or Pixel3 XL. One of my favourite things about the Pixel is the fingerprint reader, which worked pretty much first time, every time - when I picked it up the phone was unlocked by the time I was looking at the screen. The S8 not so much; I can work around the smaller, less well placed reader but it often has trouble reading my finger print. I've reregistered, rebooted, cleaned the reader etc many times, to no effect, it still has trouble particularly if my hands are cold (for a certain value of cold, never below freezing around here), skin is dry, skin is wet etc...
My partner has my old pixel, I still have a fingerprint registered on it and the pixel still consistently reads it first time, even when the S8 can't.
For me this is one of the make or break features on a phone, it's not covered in reviews and will be hard to test in store, so I'm asking this community - how good is the fingerprint reader on this phone?
(I'm posting this on both the Pixel 3XL and S10+ forums, apologies to those who follow both)
Honestly it works fine for me, but i dont use it much, I use the face unluck, any reason why you guys prefer fingerprint over face unluck ?

Yeah, they implemented the ultrasound sensor to make sure this type of authentication can't be attacked.
Face unlock is a flawed method and this phone doesn't even have the hardware to do a proper face authentication, it can be fooled by a picture.
Samsung should have disabled it but chose not to remove any stock Android features, so it is still present.
Regarding my experience with the fp sensor, it took some time to get used to the position but once that happened it's pretty much 10/10, definitely the fastest scanner I ever tried.
It is very sensitive to how you register it the first time, you need to register it in a natural position and it will work perfectly.
Fingerprint is very inconsistent for me. I've tried every method for success and it's just very hit and miss. I really use face unlock more just for my own convenience. I know it's really not secure but my phone never is never far away.

This.
Face unlock is basically all I use. Miss the note 9 and my pixel 3 xl fingerprint sensor dearly!

You should ask how bad is the finger print unlocked instead how good. For me need two or three to unlock the screen
I really wish they would have left it on the back. It was flawless back there on my s8 plus. I love everything else on the phone but that. If it was more reliable this would be a non issue
When you get used to it, it's still only like 80% accurate. Randomly it will unlock super fast and other times it fails alot. It's really average.
I'd say about 90% but it is getting better. I haven't installed my white stone dome glass and currently using zaggs. I think more people are having trouble finding the sensor and placing their finger on top of it. Try turning the screen on to see where you need to hit and get use to it. After I've learned where it is, unlocking using fp has significantly improved at least through this screen protector
I was having issues until I added an additional finger but kept it the same one I have setup already. Now it works flawlessly.
When I initially got my phone (2 days before release) I registered my fingerprints ASAP. I did each finger twice and it worked alright, not the greatest but I assumed it was just a learning curve and muscle memory that I had to develop. I installed the newest update (ASBA) and it didn't seem to improve, initially. I removed my fingerprints and added them back, this time only once per finger and it honestly works better than before. I didn't do anything special when I deleted and added them again. I wonder if the fingerprints need to be added again after the ASBA update to actually benefit from the improved fingerprint recognition, as it appears that way for myself.
Fingerprints that are added on the s10 & s10+ get better over time with some ai trickery, google search s10 fingerprint ai, theres a sammobile read up...

In my S10+ is as bad as my A7 2017, I mostly use Face Unlock with "faster recognition " disabled, with that option off it won't be fooled with a picture anymore.

Had never issues with fingerprint reader. As I wrote somewhere else, best thing is to press softly when registering it and touch the sensor sometimes more right, left, up and down as you usually don´t hit the sensor exactly in the center in daily use. Anyway there was a little latency until screen woke up and maybe in one of ten cases it didn't work at the first time.
Now I did what you suggested. I deleted the former fingerprint and set a new one. And it´s not only some kind of feeling, it´s indeed much better now. Latency nearly has gone and the fingerprint recognition works absolutely perfect now. So thanks a lot for your advise. Obviously it is not the "AI" of the device but the "user intelligence" Samsung is learning from. The recent update did it - fixed it. Great now, thanks!!!!
It basically sucks. Anyone that says they have no problem with it are full of SH*T
Not very good.

I agree with you, is crap, I have to touch several times and if my skin is dry because of the climate compared to when I registered the fingerprints (much less climate), much worse.

I'd say that's the biggest issue. It has difficulty recognizing your finger when it is dry (and that is according to the climate). When I registered them initially it worked great because my hands were slightly more humid.
At times I have to rub my hands on my hair or something to get it to recognize the fingerprint. There has to be something that Samsung can do to fix this. Especially given that this is the only secure method to unlock your phone.

Maybe you're actually just a reptile, or alien race? Honestly, I have no problems at all with the scanner. I don't understand what the people who do have the problems are doing because IMO it has to be user error. I'm not saying it's flawless, but I never have to re-attempt a scan more than once. Which is pretty much on par with how often I'd need to retry with my S8+.
Now, I don't use a tempered glass protector, only the factory one that came with it so that might be an issue some people face. But honestly, everyone who wines about the fingerprint scanner are probably just too stupid to use it properly or something.
