regular internet on HTC Magic - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I was wondering, is there a way to view site as they are in a computer?
for example getting into the "real" youtube.com instead of m.youtube.com or mobile.youtube.com
cheers

yes you can. depending on which version of android you are running these steps may be slightly different
on 2.2, in the browser
hit menu --> more --> settings
under settings look for "user agent" select it, then select Desktop (should be set to android)
this will now load pages as if you were surfing from your desktop.
on older android it may be called "view settings" or "page settings" under settings... but i cant remember...
just look under your browser settings and you will find it

thanks
that's what I was looking for

Favorites list as my IE homepage?

I see here for example how to change your homepage in Internet Exporer, but I wonder if it's possible to put my list of favorites as my homepage, or better yet, make the "Favorites" page (the one you get by going "Internet Explorer - Menu - Favorites...") come up every time I press the IE hardware button. By default, IE comes up on the last page visited, including on the "Favorites" page if it was last, or on the homepage if you are starting IE fresh.
You could always write your own webpage with links to all your favorite sites and have this as your home page.
Yeah, I thought of simply exporting mobile favorites to an html file and making that the homepage, but then I will need to update the file manually when I edit favorites in any way. Also, that registry tweak expects a site link, not an html file on the device. I could talk to our net admin at work to host the file, but it seems like a hassle.
Any way to attach a hardware button to the IE's "Favorites" page directly?

Click to collapse
You mean like "file://\My Documents\arse.html"
make your home page file://\windows\favorites
Thanks, guys. I got down to actually changing the registry, and found out that I do not have a "Start Page" value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main. I added it, it did not help. Tried to delete default.htm and substitute my own file there, the OS does not allow me. Total Commander says the file is "in ROM".
Then I went to Internet Explorer and found Tools - Options - General. You can change the home page there.
but only to the webpage you are visiting at that time. When I am in the favorites page, I cannot set that as homepage since it does not have the menu option at the bottom...
Export your mobile favorites to an *.htm file, open that file with IE, then go to the menu.

AT&T HTC Pure - Default Web Page

On the Pure, the default page when you click "Launch Web Browser" is att.net. How do I change this? Also, is there a way to change the "Add a new Push page" to just a regular bookmark? Thanks.
I could be wrong, but isn't there an option for select bookmark at the top of the page? If not, then you could just type in the address. It automatically launches att.net, just change your homepage to google and press the home button right after you launch it.
I have changed my home page on Opera to something else, however, I would like to avoid having to launch the web browser through the TouchFlo tab, and then having to interrupt the loading of a super heavy page by inmediately clicking the home page button. I would prefer to just click the "Launch Web Browser" page on go directly to my home page (yahoo mobile).
Here is how to set the default homepage in Internet Explorer:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AboutURLs]
"home"="http://www.google.com"
There should be a .xml file in "\Application Data\Manila" that you can edit the "Launch browser" address, as well as add & remove other shortcuts.
This was the case on my Touch Diamond with TouchFlo 2.1

[Q] How To Change The Browser's UserAgent ?

Hi all,
I am using Virtuous Galaxy v1.0.5 ROM on my Acer Iconia A500. And when I went to some websites,I found they were always in mobile mode. I think it's about the Browser's UserAgent.I have ever seen
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=652984
and I have ever rework the file:
/data/data/com.android.browser/shared_prefs/com.android.browser_preferences.xml
but I think it doesn't work. (Maybe I did the above-mentioned step in wrong way)
Can you help me?
And I want to use HTML5 to watch videos. Can I use the Browser with the ROM to do this? Should I change my UserAgent to "IPad"?
P.S.: I'm a Chinese student. Maybe my English has some mistakes. Please accept my apology for the inconvenience this matter have give you.
First, wrong section. All questions should go to the Q&A forum for the Iconia Tab.
Getting down to business, have you tried changing the User Agent String in the stock browser settings to Desktop? It is in settings in the Advanced tab.
First thanks for your advice.I'm stupid.I'll go to the Q&A forum to ask questions.
But I can't Found the UAString Settings in the Advanced tab.
There is my screenshots
………………Oh
Sorry,The website said:"To prevent spam to the forums, ALL new users are not permitted to post outside links in their messages."
So,I cannot show you my screenshots
Maybe,I download a wrong version? I don't know.
What should I do ?
Do you have any other ways to change UA? For example, rework any ",xml" files
Or can you give me your Browser's APK installation package?
what? No one help me?
You should really try what monkeychef said. The option is there. (under pageview or something) set it to desktop.
If you are using the stock browser that came with the tablet then the user settings are not avalible you will have to do the following to dissable the moblie web sites and turn on desktop websites.
1. Open the Android Honeycomb browser on your tablet.
2. In the address bar, type: about:debug and press enter.
3. Now open the browser's settings by tapping the icon in the very top-right corner of your screen (it looks like four horizontal lines) and selecting "Settings" from the drop-down menu that appears.
4. On the left side of the screen, tap the section labeled "Debug."
5. On the right side of the screen, tap the item labeled "UAString," then select "Desktop."
6. Press the back button (in the very bottom-left corner of your screen) to exit the browser's settings.
7. In the browser's address bar, type: about:debug once more; this will disable debugging mode and return the browser to its normal state.
Now on rooted tablets with non stock browsers the setting should be right in the browesers settings page. I know my stock browser does not have them I had to install a third party browser I use dolphin hd.
Hope this helps if so please remeber to click my thanks button.
Really thanks
Actually, in my stock browser, if I go to settings and then Advanced, I've got a "View Mode" option which is by default "Tablet", changing that to "Desktop", changes the useragent to seem like a Desktop.
For example, if you go to facebook normally I would see the mobile page, but changing the setting like above, I see the normal Desktop version of the site.
Hope this helps.

[Looking for] Modded browser apk with unlimited tab & useragent select for JVU

Hi everyone,
Can some one plzz send me modded browser apk (unlimited tabs & useragent select) for JVU. It will be very helpful. Tnx in advance.
Same here...
...also looking for the same. Tx.
Just write: about:useragent in the tab and hit go/enter
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
TX for about:useragent.
Any thing similar for unlimited tabs
Yes, thanks for the about:useragent. In my searching around the net and XDA, although this doesn't help the tabbed browsing thing yet for JVU, I did find this as well :
about:debug
then "enter".
It doesn't seem to do anything until you go into the settings menu. It gives a bunch more options in the settings menu. I set "Normal Rendering" to checked at the bottom, and also set plugins to "Always load" and most pages seem to render as desktop now by default.

[Q] Default Desktop for Internet

I really like the stock internet browser on the S4 and would like to keep it. However I have not been able to find a way to default the view to desktop. I know it has the tickmark in settings, but I do not like hitting that every time. I have tried about:debug to get the debug menu in the setting and changing the UAString to Desktop, but that does not seem to have any effect and will still default to the mobile site unless you go in and select Desktop View in the menu every time you are on a mobile site.
So has anyone figured out how to make the default browser default to desktop view? If not I am going to have to switch to another browser.
Thanks
