[Q] Rom Manager, Rooted Dell Streak 2.1 - Streak 5 General

Hello,
I have a 02 Dell Streak with Google Android 2.1 Update_1 Build 6491 Kernel Version: 2.6.29-perf.
I also have the latest version of Rom Manager with Flash Clockwork Mod 2.5.0.1 fully flashed and ready to be used.
I recently downloaded a custom 2.1 ROM to flash to my device to use from MoDaCo to use.
A few problems I am having at the moment.....[not sure if i have done this wrong or not.....]
1. Rooted my Streak with Universal Androot, Rooted fine.
2. Downloaded Rom Manager, flashed the 2.5.0.1 Recovery on my 02 Stock ROM
3. Clicked on "Reboot into Recovery", confirmed that I want to reboot into Recovery Mode, phone shuts down, switches on, gets to the Dell Logo screen, then boots the 02 splash screen and boots back into Android 2.1.........
NOTHING HAPPENDS!!
Does anyone know/think if i have done something wrong, or if there is a compatibility issue with the build that i have [Build 6491]?
Really want to get into all of the ROM modding as i have done the same with the iPhone 3G-S on 4.1 and got Android 1.5 on it and with a HTC Hero [UK GSM Version] using FroydVillian 1.5.0 [Android 2.2]
If anyone can help me, i will be most pleased!
Thanks

When you load Rom manager, do you see the installed version on the first option, or do you get "You must have the Clockwork..."? Sometimes my streak wont go into recovery when using Rom manager, I set the rom i want, then manually enter recovery if rom manager wont. no expert here, just sharing my experience with rom manager. good luck!

Thankyou dude i do have clockwork mod recovery 2.5.0.1 and ive tried older and newer beta versions and nothing happends

Well i am having the same issue and waiting if someone can help since i need to update the phone to 2.2

Well I'm new to all this but I am trying to do the same thing utilizing Rom manager with no luck. Upon reading all the directions for upgrading and downgrading the Streak I am going to assume that for some reason Rom Manager is not fully compatible with the Streak. I could be wrong and maybe someone can verify this, but seems to me if it was compatible this would be a much easier way for upgrading and downgrading Roms on this phone.

I have sent a emai to the Clockwork recovery developer and waiting for the response. if and when i will get a response i will update everyone on this thread

[GUIDE] Universal AndRoot - 1-click root (works on MyTouch 3G 1.2)

This is a guide on how to root your phone and install a custom ROM using Universal AndRoot. It supports several phone models and is the simplest way to root a phone I have ever seen. It features a 1 click root and a 1 click unroot option. Rooting with this method does NOT affect your bootloader, therefore if your phone needs serviced you can (theoretically, I have not verified this to be true) simply unroot and restore to normal.
As always myself, XDA, ROM developers, your friends, your mom, the rulers of the world and the developers of this app are NOT responsible for any bricks YOU create by taking the risk of rooting your phone. Also there are no guarantees that your warranty will not be null and void. If you NEED your warranty, DO NOT root your phone. Use at your own risk!

First we will gather the items needed to complete this process.
Universal AndRoot Version 1.6.1 is the newest STABLE release. The newest version is 1.6.2 beta 5, which is where the updated list above comes from and is said to be very close to the final release version.
Next go to the Android Market and install AppInstaller (there are a few versions including appsInstaller by modmymobile, all are free)
While in the market, also grab ROM Manager (also free)
Next download the ROM you would like to use. I personally recommend CyanogenMod 6.0.0 DS - stable. This link will take you to the Cyanogen downloads section where you will have to select your phone and search for the ROM you want.
While you are there, also grab the Google Addon pack for your phone.
Of course it is up to you to choose a ROM you like. You can also keep your stock ROM if you choose.
Lets Begin!
Install the Universal AndRoot .apk file, the ROM you chose and the Google Addon to the root of your microSD card
Open AppInstaller and let it locate your AndRoot .apk on your microSD. Select it and install it to your phone.
Open Universal AndRoot from you app menu. It should read your phone and show your firmware version. Click the "Root" button and let it do it's thing. It really only takes a minute or 2. When finished it will let you know. Congratulations, at this point you are now rooted.
Now for a custom ROM!
Open ROM Manager. Install Recovery. The default recovery for ROM Manager is ClockworkMod Recovery (which is what I am using) but a lot of people seem to like RA Recovery. This option is at the bottom of ROM Manager under "Flash Alternate Recovery". Whichever you choose, let the Recovery flash.
Next choose "Backup Current ROM", then "Reboot Into Recovery" (for future reference, you can also get into recovery mode by turning your phone off, then hold down the "home" button hit the power button. continue hold home as it powers on.)
Chose "wipe data/factory reset" then "wipe cache partition". This step is important. I know from personal experience if you don't do this you may end up in a bootscreen loop!
Choose "install zip from sdcard". Navigate to the ROM you loaded on your microSD and flash it.
After the phone reboots (which can take a few minutes the first time after flashing a new firmware version) go back to ROM Manager and again choose "Reboot Into Recovery". Once in recovery, again choose "install zip from sdcard". Navigate to the Google Addon pack on your microSD and install it.
Once you are rooted and running your new ROM, go into ROM Manager and partition your sd card. This is optional.
That is it. You should be good to go! Way easier and faster than the old goldcard method!
This is my first XDA guide. I hope it is up to your standards!

when you try the root process or when you try to flash a rom?
i get the exclamation point screen when i try to boot into recovery mode the nandroid wiki mentions this screen and says to hit alt + L but i cant find which of the mytouch3g buttons they are talking about hxxp://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Howto:_Nandroid_Backup
any help is appreciated
being that the nandroid wiki page is talking about multiple phone models, i assume it is referring to those with a physical keyboard. i honestly don't have a clue what to do in that situation. never ran into it myself. hopefully someone here will have an answer for you.
The exclamation point means that the recovery didn't flash properly so your booting into the stock recovery. The step in CM wiki is probably for the G1 which has a physical keyboard. Try booting your phone normally and flashing the recovery again.
Notes about this guide: You will not be able to flash a new splash screen with this method. I would recommend not using the Clockwork recovery that's included with ROM manager. You need to also wipe Dalvik-cache before flashing your new ROM. Most newer recoveries will let you flash multiple zips at a time, so if your installing CM there's no need to reboot in between flashing the ROM and the Google adding.

@ ziggity and amon ra
Hi, pretty new here and this post was great. Thank you. I have finally rooted my 1.2 and was so easy thanks to this post. I also though, got exclamation point. I think it has to do with the part in the directions when it comes to flashing the recovery. Here is what worked for me, maybe helpful to someone else.....
-If you want, or are trying to flash, the Amon Ra recovery instead of using ROM Manager"s default (ClockworkMod), go ahead and put the recovery file on the root of your sd card.
This is where I got confused because when I went to bottom for flash alternate recovery, it was grayed out and said there were none available (though I know for sure it was on that card!). So I tried the one that said boot in to recovery for manual management and that is when I got the exclamation point. I just took out the battery and then put it back in so it would reboot normally instead of being stuck at that point.
-Go ahead and flash the ClockworkMod Recovery from within ROM Manager. It will then reboot for a while and come back up. When you go back into ROM Manager this time, the option will be there under alternate recovery to flash your Amon Ra file on your sd card. You can go ahead and flash it from right there.
-I think you also need to know that once you flash the recovery from ClockworkMod to Amon Ra, you lose the function/capability of ROM Manager. You can flash it right back though from here also, if you decide to. It seems to be a lot easier at first for the noob and/or less tech savvy to use the Rom Manager to cover the basics, simply because Amon Ra recovery is just so incredibly feature rich.
Anyway, I hope this helps and please be kind, this is my first post!

So let me get this straight... If I want root access but I want to stay on my stock firmware, I can just stop after I click unroot? At this point here, can I simply install SetCPU, leave everything else alone, and go on my merry way?
I've been switching roms around for the past two weeks and haven't found anything stable enough to float my boat that doesn't also involve problems with Pandora and/or Navi.
This might be the perfect solution!

Help.. Can't get phone to boot to recovery through rom manager

Everytime i tell it too boot into recovery it just shows the little android guy with a triangle and exclamation and then reboots. I've installed bootstrap and run clockwork recovery. What am i doing wrong? last time i did this and was able to manually go into recovery but when i flashed a rom i just got stuck at motorola bootscreen and had to use sbf. Please enlighten me someone.
Ok.. i tried skipping clockwork and just booted into recovery through bootstrap.. Works. I try and flash a rom and the orange bar comes up and says it's installing. The bar never fully goes across but it says the installation is complete. When i try and reboot to try the rom i get stuck at the boot screen. Any ideas what is going on?

are you using 2.2? what ROM? you need to run the bootstrap once for it to work, and it will say clockworkmod installed is version 2.5.0.7 in ROMManager thats the bootstrapped version of clockwork mod.
then download the ROM, and don't touch anything after you hit the ok button on the screen that asks to backup current ROM and wipe user data. just let it work.
The system info says 2.1update1. I did as you described. I just used bootstrap to boot to recovery and tried flashing a rom and it does the same thing. Just sits at the motorola bootscreen. I'm gunna try my nandroid recovery to go back to the rooted stock rom.. I really don't know what to do from here though because neither way is working for me.
Also, my clockworkMod Recovery is v2.5.0.6 not .7. Maybe this is the issue? when i used rom recovery it said i had the most recent version. I'm Nandroiding right now which seems to be working.

ok. Thanks. Maybe this is the problem? I'm trying to flash a 2.2 rom and currently have 2.1 on my phone? So i've already done sbf back to 2.1 once last night. I'm assuming this procedure is pretty much the same. I'm guessing i will have to reroot my phone. Can i use the same method as 2.1 or is there another method for the droid x with 2.2? well.. Now i have 2.2 on my phone but no root. adb can't find my phone.. WTF
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Was finally able to get it all working. Now I have a working 2.2 custom Rom and can proceed with flashing this thing to cricket. Kinda sucks because I'm doing all this for a friend and using this phone I've kinda come to the conclusion that its a better made phone than my evo. Colors look better on the lcd, camera takes better pictures and the aluminum case is certainly nice too. Only drawback I see is the dev. Much more development for the evo, but then again it is an older phone.

I like my DX and it does have a few advantages over the EVO (e.g. battery life and build quality). However, I would gladly trade it for an EVO, since that device has 4G access, a front camera, cyanogenmod support, more accessible bootloader, etc.

Clockwork Recovery won't load

I cannot get clockwork recovery to load. I've tried the latest one (2.5.x.x) and a few older ones. I'm on an at&t dell streak, and used androot to root.
I have a lot of experience with my Captivate, I'm comfortable with adb shell commands etc. This just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
I have loaded the 2.5.x.x version of CW via fastboot, but when I boot into recovery, and select option 2, it hangs on a black screen. I've done quite a bit of searching, but I haven't found an answer.
I've also tried the alternate CW that is supposed to help with this issue. Could I have flashed a bad version of CW, and that file is still giving me problems?
When 2.5.0.1 didn't work for me, 1.8.something did. Just try different ones until you get it..
Good luck

If you are running 1.6 use ClockWorkMod 1.8.1.7 (i think that is the right number) if you are on 2.1+ then CWM 2.5.0.1 is good to go.
I will try the earlier clockwork tonight. I'm sure if I get that working, I can flash another ROM and be back in business. I was freaking out when I couldn't get the phone past the DELL screen, and CW wasn't working.
I read around some more and didn't realize that I needed to flash a stock recovery, and get on an 02 rom in order to get to 2.1 and then to 2.2. Problem solved though, thanks for all your help guys, I'm flashing to 2.1 right now!

rogers dell streak running stock 02 2.1

ok guys i have completed this for all you rogers customers
this was completed on a rogers locked streak
these are the steps i took
i rooted mine using universal androot (real easy !)
installed fastboot drivers
nandroided using clockwork recovery (the one that worked for me was 1.8.1.7)
then i flashed back to stock recovery
then flashed 02 1.6 (build 4399)
then flashed 02 2.1 (build 8105)
restored apn setting
now im just gonna see if i should do the hyde's 2.2 but from what ive read apps go missing in market so im gonna have to ask around
but yea for all you rogers heads it has been done !!!!
Good job, That's the exact way that I did it. It only took 10 hours or so to finally figure it all out. The one good thing about it is, it was good learning. I came from using HTC phones, they are super easy to flash ROMS with. This streak is a little harder, at least having flash over so many times.
yea i came from a g1 so i know the deal
I sent you a PM asking if you have your nandroid backup handy. If you do can you mirror it somewhere to help me out? I can't find the Rogers build 7921 anywhere to download.
can you make into a update.pkg ?

Hey there! I'm so close I can taste Froyo.... but:
Would love the help of some of the more experienced here. I'm at at dead end.
Goal is to get to Custom 1.4.6 Froyo ROM. Currently I get stuck on a blank screen after trying a O2 1.6 (4399) update from a restored stock recovery. I can restore my nandroid 7921 backup but it come up with a number of errors so not feeling to solid about that. Also says baseband unknown (see below).
What I have done so far:
ii. Rooted with Universal Root (I think - rooted for sure, not sure exactly if it was UR or another, but it said it worked(after 2 trys))
1. Setup Fastboot mode with no problems (no driver problems just worked)
2. Installed clockwork recovery v1.8.1.7
2b. Backed up using nandroid
3. Used fastboot to apply dsp1.bin (720p video) and amss.bin (baseband?) updates for 1.4.6
4. Flashed DJS Froyo 1.4.6
Result was installed fine but on attempted boot the classic stuck at Dell logo. Pretty sure I left it long enough (about 15 min or so). No luck.
5. Restored 7921 backup. Worked but LEDs were flashing (baseband miss match?) and received a 'battery error' (battery charging disabled).
Then saw this thread realized the path to take = Rogers 1.6 -> O2 1.6 -> O2 2.1 -> DJS Froyo 1.4.6 so have set off on that path.
6. Installed Stock Recovery with Fastboot
7. Attempted to flash O2 1.6 (4399). result was a blank screen for a long time (left about 15 minutes)
Soooooo....
Just to prove to myself I wasn't screwed I have since fastboot installed clockwork recovery and restored 7921 nandoid back-up. Only problem seems to be an error stating "sd-ext.img not found. Skipping restore of /sd-ext." It boots now but has that battery error still about not charging.
What I believe I should be doing (goal is still to get to DJS 1.4.6) is:
1. Restore recovery to stock recovery and flashing O2 1.6 (4933)
2. Flash O2 2.1 (8105)
3. Fastboot the recover to clockworks
4. Flash to DJS 1.4.6
But not sure how to get past my blank screen after restore of stock recovery and attempted flashing of o2 1.6 (4933). Have tried 2 different stock recovery images and 2 different o2 1.6 (4933) pkg files.
Would appreciate anyone who can show me the error(s) of my ways.
Thanks so much.
Cheers.

Cheers.

yep you should of flashed 02 1.6 first then 02 2.1 then upgraded to 1.4.6
if you can still get to recovery then you should be able to get things running again
my advice would be to try to get your baseband back to normal , not exactly sure how maybe you could find an alternate , also i think that you sd-ext could be solved by re mounting it in clockwork recovery ,ill do what i can to help you , baseband flashing is new to me

Am I stuck here?

Ok, essentially all I want is swype. I dont care if I'm running stock or whatever I just need swype. I bought this phone used and pre-rooted and the dell PC suite software wasnt installed so I cant sync to change the recovery image. I tried manually installing using this
http://android.modaco.com/content/a...recovery-no-adb-no-usb-wirefree/#entry1497226
but I cant seem to find the proper download links and even then the commands (such as CP) are coming back that they dont exist. All I really need is swype so one way or another could someone help me out?
Best advice I can suggest is download the 2.2 rom again can't suggest which one unless u can tell us what rom ur using right now, figuring who ever had the phone before you deleted swype.
Just stay from scratch
Sent from my DELL STREAK 2.2 stock using XDA APP
Why do you need to change the recovery?
Do you have the swype.apk? if so just copy it over to your sd card and using astro file manager (dl it from market) and tap to install the .apk.
Also the Dell Official froyo has swype pre-installed.
What build are you running now (settings-about phone)
MY apologies for the confusion. Ok, so what I'm at now is I've currently got 2.2 installed on this. My version is Froyo Beta 1 from DJ Steve which I would love to upgrade but no other recovery screen will boot except for the one that looks like the basic recovery screen but wont flash a rom. I've tried kicking clockwork mod onto there but it goes back to the basic screen and wont flash. I've got SU access and obviously a custom rom but unfortunately I just cant seem to get a real recovery screen onto there...
Also I've gone so far as to follow this http://android.modaco.com/content/d...to-get-your-streak-back-to-factory-condition/ It says it boots the new recovery in but I am still unable to flash my way back to stock. This is the ATT streak if that matters.
