[Q] USB Tethering in Wildfire - problem - Wildfire General

Tethering does not work on my WF. I tested it both with XP and Win7 machines.
They all had proper drivers installed. The computer discovers a new network but it does not offer internet connectivity. The 3g internet in the phone works just fine.
I also discovered a strange thing. If I make a hard reset (factory defaults). Tethering works, but just until first phone restart. I talked to my GSM provider - they do not block it. I could use my sim card in another nokia phone for internet too. I talked to HTC support from London and they said it could be provider issue. But not, checked. What now? Can it be so specifically broken?
I have Android 2.1 - update1. And it is Unrevoked.

install wildpuzzle and use wifi teather

I've had the very same issue but now that I've got Froyo 2.2 installed, it works again! Even after rebooting the phone a couple of times. I'm actually writing this while tethering after two phone reboots (after trying tethering on the first boot)

HCDR.Kernel v4.1 dosent support wifi Tethering..there is a bug..

Thx. Good to know. I think with me the issue is also fixed. And the WiFi hotspot function is also very handy.

use pdaNET program to connect pc via Wildfire.
it works.

wi-fi router in hd2 working?

Anybody used the wi-fi router option on the hd2 to connect their pc to internet? I have startet the application and it says running, but no wi-fi router is found on mine or my colleagues computers. I tried the same thing with the wifi hotspot app for iphone, and that worked as a charm.
Just wondering if anyone else has got it working at all?

HTD HD2
I've connected 2 notebook without problems!
Well, now it works like a dream! Dont know what was wrong earlier today, but a couple soft restarts seems to have made it work!
thanks for all replies
Mine's an O2 phone that came without the WiFi Router app installed on the ROM. I downloaded and installed Tom Condon's HTC WiFi cab from and it works well. The only thing that I don't have (yet) is the shortcut to the WiFi Router app from the Comm Manager interface.

Is this the one from the Bowman Pack? I have installed this and it doesn't work. Can you give a link to the cab you installed? Ta!
*Edit....this *does* work but the range is abysmal, the HD2 has to be sat on top of my laptop in order for it to work.

I heard O2 ripped the wifi app and drivers out of their ROM (not 100% sure). If thats the case you could always flash the Official HTC ROM which will restore wifi, clear a load of horrible O2 branding and add Youtube app Check out this Tutorial on how to do it.
By the way I've use the Wifi app and my Linux and Windows PC/laptops can all detect and connect to the phone. Handy if your out of cable...but unsecure due to WEP.

I had the YouTube app on my O2 ROM. I've now flashed with the latest official HTC ROM and WiFi Router is now fully installed.
I've found that name of Wi-Fi router needs no space !!! so, my computer could found it now...
been using wifi tethering with win7 64bit laptop no probs - nice function to have.
I tried to use, but can't see it neither in a XP nor a Vista!!!
my computer could'nt see it too
I could see and connect but no connectivity to the internet
Assigning IP took about 1 min
I can confirm it works fine for me, on an unbranded device.
It worked for me but only when I switched off my home broadband wifi router.

They may have been using the same channel, which would mean that the stronger signal would drown out the weaker one. I'd expect a home router to have a stronger signal so that would make sense. You can change the channel that your home wifi router uses, if this is an issue for you.

US Tmobile Wifi Tethering not Working

Hi, I installed the HTC Wifi Tether app on a stock US HD2 Rom, but none of my devices can get an internet signal - sometimes I can see it and it says connected, but web browsing does not work.
I used wifi tether on my G1 for the last year, so I thought this would be as easy - no luck so far.
I also tried the WMWifiTether app, but with the same results.
Any help is appreciated - this is somewhat of a deal breaker for me if I can't get tethering working. Thanks

Uninstall that app. Install "omarket" from http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/omarket/
Install "Mobile Wi-Fi Router"
It will be listed under: Settings-->Menu-->All Settings-->Connections-->Wifi Internet Sharing .
This works perfectly on my T-Mobile US HD2. )
p.s. If this does not work, you may have some crap from the HTC wifi app still sticking around. Do a factory reset and install the omarket app.
Wi-Fi Router works fine for me.
T-Mobile UK has Wi-Fi Router as app in start menu.
Works perfect wit my Windows Laptop and my MacBook Air despite T-Mobile saying the HD2 won't "tether" with Apple (and it doesn't).
I ran 3 PC's from just the one phone, amazing, even managed to watch some catchup TV on MacBook using Wi-Fi Router. Just set it up on the phone and then simply look for wireless point... your own WiFi Zone.

I tried that, I tried changing the name o fhte network, and I have soft and hard reset between installing different wifi tether apps. Same thing every time - my pc will see it, connect, but no internet. My other device can sometimes see it, sometimes not. I'm at wit's end, because I can still use the same account with my G1 to tether, and that works flawlessly. This and other problems I am having with the HD2 make me feel like I am in microsoft bug territory now. ugh. With any luck, we'll have either windows phone 7 and / or android soon.
Make sure there's no spaces in the wifi network name and make sure your computer is set up to take a DHCP address on wireless rather than static.

Where Can i download the built in Infrastructure WIFI tethering app for HD2?

Hi, im in need of some assistance. I have a new android device, the Archos 5IT. my phone is the Tilt 2. i have been unable to get my tilt 2 tethered to it thru wifi. reason being that the xda wifi router app uses adhoc mode. the archos will only see Infrastructure connections. Someone on the archos forum said the HD2 has built in a wifi tethering app that is infrastructure mode. Can someone plz direct me to that app or another wifi tethering app that uses Infrastructure mode only? also, free apps...lol thnkx in advance i figure if i download that app, ill be good, and wont have to take this device back. plus its giving me probs trying to connect thru bt also. lol FIGURES
If you can't find a free one, I recommend WMWifiRouter (v2 and above). It lets you connect multiple devices via Wifi (infrastructure style) and Bluetooth, as well as work as a USB modem and a USB Wifi dongle.
If you have Omarket installed, just download "Mobile Wi-Fi Router." It works GREAT!
Sorry about reviving an old thread. I've been searching and trying to find this exact solution, but neither of the ones listed here are doing "Infrastructure" mode. I'm currently testing WMWifiRouter (v2.0 - build 1502, downloaded directly from their site today) and when I set up the wifi connection, it only gives an option for Ad-Hoc (or none - which is for connecting to another access-point).
Am I missing something with WMWifiRouter, or is there any other app at all that will do Infrastructure mode? I don't mind having to buy something, I just need it working.
Thanks!

Sorry if I am not clear with your issues above.
But, Winmo 6.5 in HD2, has a native wifi tethering application.
There is an option menu (in Comm Manager) to turn on the Wifi Router.
This will make your HD2 as an Access Point. It can accept 5 devices.
Cheers..
Yes but only in adhoc mode, not in infrastructure mode, which appears to be needed for connecting some devices like psp and my new HTC flyer!
Same problem with GT 10.1 and HTC HD2
I have the wifi router program but it's not working with my galaxy tab 10.1, how can i tell if its adhoc or infrastructure signal?

Hi, I am researching this as well, and here is what I have found so far.
1. Android does not currently support/connect to ad-hoc WiFi, only Infrastructure mode.
2. If your Android tablet device can not see the WiFi from your phone hotspot but a PC Can, then it is probably ad-hoc, as my WinMo HTC HD2 is.
3. I have an Asus Transformer tablet with Android 3.1 and this can not see my WiFi from the WiFi hotspot settings, but my PC can see it and connect to the HD2.
4. If there is an Android ROM for your phone, (XDA Forums) that will run from the SD card, you can boot into that and use the WiFi hotspot (Tethering) from the Android ROM. This seems to work fine on my setup.
Hope this helps
really would rather not root if at all possible
since i live in fear of ending up with a very expensive brick (by messing up rooting my xoom) - has anyone come up with a way to make the winmo htc hd2 send out an infrastructure wifi signal?

Simple answer is no. Winmo 6.5 will not do infrastructure wifi hotspot, no matter whether native Winmo app or a 3rd party app (i.e., WMWifirouter). You're going to have to do what I'm doing with my HD2. Go thru the learning process of installing an Android build on your SD card, and then boot into Android. You've very little risk of bricking the HD2 if you read carefully and follow the guides. [However, these guides are definitely written by geeks, not editors who write and re-write to be explicitly clear.] Supposedly, the Android Wifi router is infrastructure, but I've not yet gotten to that point in my own process. The first one I tried to install (AmeriCanAndroid) didn't complete booting up successfully, so I tried another Android build (MIUI), but in it I'm not finding a wifi tethering app. And, in it, the Market app is crashing. So, I'm now on the search for a 3rd Android build. The payoff is big (wifi tethering to my Viewpad 7 tablet), so I persevere. Good luck to you on your journey.

Can't tether!

Just that. Wifi or USB tether doesn't function. The phone says it's connected, but the laptop says no network connection.
There any replacement apps that might help? I flashed the latest radio and that fixed a GPS problem I was having, but didn't fix the tether. Suggestions?
Its not clear, were you able to tether before, and now you've lost that function. Or is this the first time you've tried it?
If its the first time, ATT has blocked this function with the intent that you pay for the extra tethering fee.
But a simple reg edit works around this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569953
Also, there is a free WiFi sharing app on this site, if you do a search. There are also paid apps, like Walking Hotspot, that also work.
Keep in mind, tethering without the tethering plan is a violation of ATT's terms and conditions. They reserve the right to levy big per kb fees or cancel your service.
That said, I've done it from time to time while on business trips (no excessive data usage), and its never been a problem.
I'm an idiot, I forgot to update my sig. I'm not running stock anymore, sorry. I actually forgot which rom I switched to, but it was one of the lighter ones. had wifi router, office, and everything basic on there though. What option do I have if I don't remember which ROM I used?
The custom ROMs I've used (Energy, simplicity) support tethering by default without any modification or settings to change. Or the WiFi router will basically do the same thing.
I still don't know if you have been able to tether before, and suddenly can't; or this is you first time attempting it.
If its something you've been able to do before, some computers can be finicky (for no very ovious reason) with the Internet Sharing function. Try a different USB port, or to reboot your system. Also, you need to have Active Sync installed on your computer (or Windows Mobile Device Center, in the case of Vista or Windows 7). This was a big "duh" moment for me one time. I was trying to get tethering up on my work laptop. Then I realized that I had never installed Active Sync since my work gave me a new laptop.
Tether/Internet Sharing via Bluetooth should also work, if you computer has Bluetooth.
I apologize again. With this ROM I've never been able to tether, and I just reinstalled windows and installed activesync. I can do activesync and file transfers and everything else. What else can I do? Maybe it's a driver issue between windows and the phone? I'unno.
This is what happens.

Ok, if you connect to the internet from the phone, and once connected you then hooked it in the PC, then you wont be able to connect tether. So turn off any phone internet connection, and then hooked it up to the PC , then connect.
I don't think he is talking about being connected to the internet. When you start Internet Sharing, it will say on the phone whether its connected to the PC over USB, or not. That is what I think the OP is talking about.
just update your rom... go to one of the energy roms that has wifi sharing built in and you'll be ready to go.
Probably the easiest thing you can do to get this working.
What I'm trying to....

What I'm trying to explain is that, if you have data running in your cell before connecting IS, and connect it to the PC it wont tether, you need to first end Data Connection, connect IS and then HOOK THE USB to the PC.

[Q] Cannot Activate The Wifi Hotspot

Hi,
Redmi Note 4G (HM NOTE 1LTE)
Android 4.4.4 KTU84P
MIUI 5.3.27 (latest weekly).
The phone succeeds connecting to the internet through the mobile network.
When setting a hotspot in the phone, I succeed to connect to the phone from my laptop, but there is no internet access in my laptop.
The strange thing is, that if I'm connecting the laptop to the phone through the USB cable, and turn tathering in the phone through USB, and connect to the phone to the WIFI network, the laptop succeeds to access the internet through the phone.
Once I set the phone to go to the internet through the mobile network, the laptop loses the access to the internet.
Thanks,
Ofir.
What OS do you use in the laptop? There are some old and well known issues with WiFi tethering and Windows (these can be solved). If you use Windows, I'm pretty sure that your phone is OK.

Windows 7. But I'm sure it is not the laptop, as I do succeed to use a hotspot with the same SIM when used from iPhone...
Also, as written, the hotspot is working when connected over USB and the phone connects over WIFI.
The issue I'm talking about exists specifically between Windows 7 and Android devices only. I faced that with some phones I had. Just google "wifi tethering android windows 7 not working" to find that there are many people with this problem (like this).
Just to be sure you could try to connect with another laptop running another system (I never had a problem with Linux - Ubuntu/Mint/Fedora/Gentoo). If you don't have one, you can download and burn a live CD.
Most suggestions are installing third party apps, you can try some free apps on Play Store which perhaps enable tethering in some more compatible way. I solved my issues with an init.d script but don't remember what it exactly did (changed some sysctl values every boot).
Or you could change ROM and see if problem is solved. Try Mokee, or MIUI v6.

Thanks!!!
What has solved it was installing a tathering rooted app. It seems that in this phone, even if my service provider allows me to use a hot spot, and although the phone interface allows me to activate the hot spot, I still had to root the machine and install such app to really enable it.
