It sucks. Im rooted, but still stock rom, and it crashes my phone all the time. It just stops playing music (and then loses memory as to which playlist/artist it was in, as well as current song)
Is there a more stable app for media playback? Or, what can I do to stabilize my baby.
As I said, I am rooted, have LPP installed, root explorer and that's about it. Im not oc'd or uc'd, and I have renamed/disabled lots of the trash APK's ..
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Depending on the .apk's you've deleted it could possibly be one of those but I remember the stock music app gave difficulties and would close or act unstable so unless you know for a fact you haven't touched anything related to the music app then it's just something you'll have to deal with until you install a different music app(google D1 version; basically the same thing) or switch to a custom ROM with a different app (usually google D1 version).
Hope that helps.

Does anyone have the name of the d1 version? Or, maybe a different app? And yes, I'm 100% sure I didn't touch anything related to that app
I believe the apk is MusicGoogle.apk I think you can find it in one of the 'blurless' ROMs Epic 2.5 has it. I would just download the rom and unzip it into a folder and search it for the .apk in the system/app folder (on your computer) then out it in the sdcard and install it from there.
See if that works.

Thanks man, ill give it a shot when I get home.
Update on the issues: handset sms (the app) appears to be the culprit. I don't know how or why, after uninstalling it (I had a hunch based on text receipt and crash/reset issues) I no longer seem to have issues.

After reading a post in the vanilla 2 forums about someone else having problems with mms...I got to thinking I wonder if mine still works with my wife's env3. Send a small video msg to my phone and low and behold, while I receieved the msg just fine...when it tried to play the video I'd see the first frame..then nothing. The progress bar would continue to run through but the video itself was not going, nor was the sound. I tried kaos v32, nonsensikal 5.4, celb 2.3, vanilla rom beta 2, tainted tenzo, ALLL of which had the SAME issue. While I had kaos installed I thought maybe its the messenger app so I tried chompsms...SAME exact issue. I DO have some videos on my sd card that play just fine. I changed the resolution that my wife's phone sends at still to no avail. ONLY thing I found that DID work is I installed xtrRom 4.0.6.1 and that DOES show the mms video properly. Any ideas? While I'm not knocking xtr but any chance...it'd be nice to know what the issue is and/or be able to use other roms.
The issue is specific to AOSP ROMs..
xtrROM has a vanilla feel but runs the stock HTC framework and messaging app. The HTC libraries and decoders are largely proprietary in my experience so they are not easy to just port over to AOSP...
Nice testing & feedback and I know tenzomonk is looking into it...

Yes this is not really an mms issue but more likely a video codec issue....do you know what file format the video messages are sent in? Although I would think the messages would be sent in 3gp if recorded on a cell phone so they really should play. Is there an option to save the video to the phone and then try to open it?
I was thinking it might be a format issue as well but they're 3gp format so should be able to play. Someone on irc did mention I could save the video and it might work but shouldn't this be able to be done by default? Hopefully someone can figure out a fix without having to save or install an additional app

works like a charm on Cyanogenmod 7 RC4, even lockscreen commands, replaced old music.apk with new one in system/app (s-off or via adb)
enjoy!
cheers
I agree it works great - a big improvement from the previous leak.
This is also being covered in the general Android Apps and Games forum:

Larger than Winamp (7MB as opposed to 3MB once installed)
How did you get the lockscreen commands working? I had nothing. I'd maybe use it then as it does look nice, but Winamp has a better widget, plus lock screen.
It is force closing on my desire using gingervillian... any ideas?
it is working on my Viewpad 10s not optimal but useble..
Mine keeps saying "application not installed". I'm using oxygen 2.0.3. Any ideas?
I cant get it to install. I says application not installed everytime. I read somewhere that i has to do with the fact that i installed the older leaked version. How do i remove the old version completely?

Yes. That would be nice.
Not good... tried a few things.. looks ok .. uninstalled
buggy on oxygen 2.0.3
I really liked the interface though it is quite minimal so it's a shame that:
interface is slow to load and lags (not just on first load)
scrobbling gets very confused (last.fm doesn't know what to do and flashes scrobbling notification repeatedly).
uninstalled.
edit
downloaded a different version from some forum after reading an article about syncing music with latest music app. seemed to work very smoothly indeed.
I installed the one from here: Official Android Music 3.0 Beta! Get It Now!.
It works fine with the MIUI 1.4.8. But I'm missing some features like sleep timer, editing ID3-Tags. But I like the interface.
Is there a way of making this the default music app and having it work with the HTC Lockscreen? I Like it other than that.
I don't like it at all. It looks quite cheap compared to the older version... and compared to other players, including the stock HTC music player. Also, why so laggy?
thanks for this...
gooooooooood

Hey Guys, Somehow I have managed to delete the app for my generic camera app that comes with my galaxy s phone.
I do have lots of other great camera apps but Im really keen on this one and cant find it anywhere.
Any help to find the.apk or the name of the app would be great.
ok not sure about the stock app but sgs tools will allow you to install a couple of modded ones including one that is the stock version but will allow you to disable goe tagging (which I cannot believe the stock app doesn't allow kinda pissed me off when I first realised that) and also take pictures when in call or low battery scenarios.
It MIGHT even reinstall the stock app but I am not 100% sure on that one
Now that the netflix app is officially out for android (but only for supported phones), is there any way to make it work on the Shift before it's officially a supported device?
Using the attached apk, which is the market release, I can log in and view my queue. I haven't gotten a video to work yet, but I'm in the process of checking.
tldr;
App works on Evo Shift, so far. I am on CM 7.3.1 running ScaryKernel 1.8.
Edit:
Unfortunately, I cannot get a movie to play. I can choose a movie and it goes to the red loading screen but the movie will not start. Loads to black screen with a second of noise then crashes back to the Netflix app home screen.
There is the possibility that my data connection is at fault. I have no wifi connection where I am and my 3G speeds are lackluster here in mid-Michigan. I will try more later when I have a steadier connection.
Ok. The apk I had found wouldn't load, thought it was an issue with compatibility. But it looks like it'll work with the version you posted, thanks.
It doesn't quite seem to work to play videos. I can hear sound, but no video. I tried it on 3G and on the WiFi here at work (26 down).
Same issue here on 4g, 3g, and wifi. It seems to do everything except streaming. The video and audio begin to load and then crashes.

What ROM are you using?
I'm using CM7 and it doesn't work and I have flash 10.3
Just get audio, no video and quits out after ten seconds
I'm using MIUI and adobe flash 10.3, no dice. App opens then just sits on a white screen.

Mind posting your methods for getting the app to work?
http://techland.time.com/2011/05/13/netflix-for-android-workaround/
1) Download ES File Explorer (Or any other root file editor) *** I used File Manager in Cyanogen Mod because ES File Explorer would not work
2) In ES File Explorer, go into Setting > Root Settings and enable both check boxes
3) Navigate to /system/ and copy/paste build.prop to /sdcard/ (just in case)
4) Open & edit /system/build.prop
5) Change the following lines to make your phone think it is an HTC G2:
--ro.product.model=HTC Vision
--ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
OR
--ro.product.model=Nexus S
--ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
6) Reboot the phone
7) Install the netflix apk (if you haven't already)
Enjoy

Enjoy Friends!!!
Anyone confirm this working? Does it affect anything else?
I can't get it to work. Every time I try to change the build.prop and then reboot, it reverts back to the original file. I got it to catch using ES, but it still doesn't work. I try playing, and it does the same thing as before. Sound (shaky), no video.
I did the mod to build.prop above (just the HTC Vision one since the other was already there) and checked that the flash was updated to newest version of 10.3.
It worked fine for me so long as I did not use the Resume on the first page after login and didn't try to skip to far forward during playback (just skip a little at a time or let it play through).
I used it on wifi in my house to play Ron White - They Call Me Tater Salad all the way through (a little under an hour) and played another while on 4G and had no issues other than those above. 3G seems worthless (maybe if you get a really good connection)...my usual connection is sloowww.
Overall - great video and sound...probably even better with a headset...
Edit: Evo(Shift)Nonsense 1.0 rom and no special kernel, just one with Nonsense rom. That being said, I can't address any failures in other roms because I don't know why mine works and others don't...
Also, I included my build.prop (editted with Notepad++ and named buildnf.prop) in the attached zip file...
PS - I have two versions of the build.prop file in my system folder, the original and the modified version and just renaming them back and forth seemed to work even without rebooting. Also, so far I haven't noticed any drawbacks to just leaving modded version in effect.

Could you be more specific about your Rom and Kernel and possibly upload your build.prop that works? Thanks.
I've tried editing my build.prop in every way possible that has been said to work and I cannot get anything to play for more than a second.
The video is loading, begins to play for a second, audio only, then crashes back to the Netflix home screen.
Sorry, meant to include this info in original post (I'll edit it too):
Evo(Shift)Nonsense 1.0 rom
no special kernel, just one with Nonsense rom.
(See first post above for build.prop file)

Its not broken, if you are on a gingerbread rom then that isnt supported by the netflix app on evos.. So u have to use the workaround, the supported devices list shows the requirements

I have it working on my girlfriends evo Shift. I did the g2 changes in her build.prop rebooted and turned on 4g thats it heres a pic of cheers it was the first thing that came up. it's a rooted stock evoshift. Havent got it working on my epic but since the nexus s requires 2.3 I'm resigned to thinking i won't have it till gingerbread.
can't post them though BAH!
EmperorX it worked forced closed and overheated a lot , after adding the HTC Vision to build properties it worked much better . Thank you very much .

I can confirm that it for sure works on the Nonsense ROM as stated by hdmunger.
I also used the mediaclient-1.apk found in this thread.
I also edited the prop build to HTC Vision
It did not work under CM7, but it DOES WORK UNDER NONSENSE ROM AND MEDIACLIENT-1
Hi All,
I had a Kindle Fre with CM7.
I have downloaded the jackpotClavin file posted here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20671158&postcount=334)
I have started twrp and after a backup of my CM7 i have installed JackpotClavin's file. After that I have done a wipe...
Then rebooted.
Wow. ICS is working. WIFi is OK! sdcard seems to me ok.
And all the app installed under cm7 works in ICS.
Just a FC in two hours of hard use...
Luca
Nice Il try it out now sounds good
I wonder if the SD card working has something to do with u not wiping data?

There could be some files left over from the CM7....
I think so.

Here are some Pics
so I factory wiped and flashed the pre-alpha, pushed su, pushed Tribuchet launcher, went through market and installed ScreenshotUX. I couldn't find any tribuchet settings that would fix the landscape mode, and as of now landscape only works in the unlock screen, web browser, settings screen, and certain apps like calender. As you can see, the youtube app looks very pretty. Video playback was buggy with no sound, expected Going to try flashing Xperiaplayer's update to see if I missed anything while resetting permissions to the vold - ICS won't read app data from sdcard, I can see it only through my computer when mounted. Enjoy the pics, soooo prettyyyyyy...
Installed the latest build from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20841384&postcount=218
I wanted to report this to that thread but as a "Junior member" I can't so I'll just post it here and hopefully someone will re-report it there.
Just noticed something weird: Though sound is buggy when playing music, I tried installing the Xiia Live application and tried streaming sound.
It's been streaming for 6 hours straight without any sound artifacts, without stopping and generally without any issues. So there's definitely something going on there with the driver... worth another look.
Has anyone tried using Pandora with this ROM. If so, how much does the sound skip out if at all or if it even works at all lol.
This is looking pretty nice...may have to root my KF now!
