is it alright to constantly backup, install a rom, and reinstall previous roms often? or will this have detrimental effects on my phone later?
sry for the noob question, and thx in advance.

Hi all,
I am interested in trying custom roms for various reasons on my G2. With the recent breakthrough in allowing full root, now seems to be a good time to try.
What I don't seem to be grasping is the whole process so, here is what I think* needs to be done, and I'd appreciate a more seasoned person to set me straight
1. Obtain full root via RAGE or oneclick Visionary method
2. Install RomManager
3. Obtain Rom
Here is where I kind of get blurry on the whole topic.
Once I have the files needed, Does RomManager do a nandroid backup so I can revert back in case I want to revert back to stock? Is this how I would revert back to stock or do I need to find the original pre or post OTA rom for the g2?
Does a program like Titanium Backup allow me to backup all of my apps and settings so they are easily restored no matter the rom, or if I revert back to stock?
Thanks in advance all, I have been reading every subset of these forums but I still feel a bit scared to try and wanted to get the facts straight before trying. I'm mostly just concerned that I wouldnt be able to revert back to stock if I had to.

rom manager can perform the backup, wipe, and install of a new ROM all in one go, you just need to tell rom manager where the ROM is on the sdcard and it will ask if you want to backup and/or wipe first

i do not know if titanium backup will restore the settings within the apps, but the backed up apps will work on any custom ROM you install on your phone.
Thank you for making that more clear!
So when wiping for a new rom, you want to wipe the cache, and do a full system wipe as well?
Lastly, now that I have the stock g2 rom backed up (did it manually via recovery, not in the rommanager app) I can flash as many roms I want to try them, but really can revert back to stock based on that backup. I guess what I'm saying is, I dont have to revert to stock before trying out a new rom right?
Thanks again, this is a huge help!
With your ROM backed up, that's essentially a "screenshot" of the state of your phone at that time. So yes, you can jump from ROM to ROM, clearing data, and whenever you're ready to go back to stock, you just restore your stock ROM and pretend nothing happened.
And yes, I recommend wiping everything when flashing a new ROM. Although if you're coming from the same type of ROM (I.E HTC Sense to another HTC Sense) you can probably get away with not wiping data.
And with Titanium Backup, I do reckon that settings are kept. When you restore apps, you're given the option to restore the app or app+data.

I suggest on mine to restore apps only and not data.
Hello,
Just flashed my first ROM using GooManager. It worked perfectly, and now my device is up and running and installing all the apps again. GooManager took a backup before it flashed the ROM.
How do I get back all the settings for my phone? ie. everything, APN, icon placement etc.
Okay, learning as I go along. Got into TWRP recovery, there are three check boxes. If I want to keep the ROM I installed, and just want my old settings, which should I check?
Edit: Options are System Data and Boot.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's not recommended to do that since it can bring problems to the new ROM. I recommend using something like Titanium backup, it's marvelous. :good:

Ya I'm not sure but I think recoveries only redo full ROM restore, not apps.
I believe TiBu can pull apps from a backup, perhaps ROM Toolbox too.
Your best bet is likely to backup again, restore previous backup, run TiBu or Toolbox and backup user apps. Restore newest ROM, restore apps. Since you just flashed though may not be worth backing up current, just reflash it after you go back to do the apps.

Okay I have now successfully rooted my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N900t.
Now what should I do? Any advice or suggestions anyone
What do you guys recommend doing with it?
If I have to install something please provide where and how to install it please. I need as much help as I can get!
Please be as detailed as possible as I am very new at this.
Thank you ahead of time anyone who responds! :highfive:
You can freeze unused apps with titanium backup. You can change system sounds or disable camera shutter sound boot sound etc. You can disable increasing Ringtone. And You can flash any custom mod from recovery. Etc etc
FIRST do a complete back up. ...After do what you want. ...
Don't get me wrong but normaly you wanna do something with your phone that turns out to need ROOT and so you root.
Somehow you reversed this so now your ROOTED but you don't know why,he he.
Start by reading about making a NANDROID BACKUP in case anything goes wrong, that would be my first step.
Respect!

Could I also use Titanium Back up to do this process or does it have to be done via CWM or TWRP?
If I have to use those for example CWM which one do I choose "Download Recovery" or "Download Touch Recovery"? I'm guessing which ever I choose I put the apk on my sd card and run it right?
You can save your apps with titanium but not your system...you have to flash your recovery with Odin. ..
Hey guys -
This may be a dumb question but i want an answer before i start going nuts flashing. I just installed Tildes rom the other day and i'm enjoying it. i want to try a few others now. Can we do normal backup/recoveries in TWRP now? As in, can i do a full system/nand backup and wipe everything and install CMRemix from scratch, and then if dont like it, i can wipe system/date/everything and just restore my backup?
I remember there being some issues with doing a full wipe when we started because no one had a copy of the original rom. Is that still the case? If so, any tips or advice ?
anyone, buuueelller?
