Hey XDA maybe you can help me out.. I;ve searched the forums and cannot find a solution to what is happening to my phone. I have a SIM unlocked HD2 and in the WM rom im using (Chucky) the EDGE data works just fine all of the time. However, the minute I boot into Android, and I've tried multiple roms, the EGDE data will work then stop. No matter what combination of turning off and on the data, changing the monile network settings, WIFI will turn back on the data connection. Ive tried booting into Android with and without radios on in WM and basically everything I can think of. Ive changed APN settings as well.
I really dont know what is causing this. and im currently using radio 2.12.50.02. If anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated. Any questions i will answer.
What android build are you booting into? What Kernel? Have you explored your build's thread to see if others experienced similar data drops?
I have a euro hd2 on att edge and I don't have any issues with the setup in my signature.
I'm currently booting into Hyperdroid V1.6 with a kernal version 2.6.32.9-r11_n38158-g184606d-dirty [email protected] #159. Ive looked at nearly all the pages and placed searches as well but can't seem to find anything. I have a feeling it has to do with the fact that im using AT&T but WM EDGE works just fine. I should mention WIFI works fine in Android but on the power coltrol widget on my home screen the Data button (with the arrows pointing up and down) is red even when turned off. I'll try your set up later tonight, thanks for the response.
EDIT: I tried your set up and it was the same case. Sometimes I'll boot up and EDGE will work for a while then stut off randomly and other times it wont work at all after boot up.
Have you tried rmnet vs ppp? Others have had success using rmnet when having data issues.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Sorry for the late reply. I have tried both and it doesnt change anything. What I have found is that my data will work for anywhere from 5-60 minutes then stop working all together until the next reboot. I have no idea what is causing this or what I can do to fix this.
many others are experiencing data disconnections depending on kernel and build. I don't think this issue has anything to do with at&t. Keep trying kernels and builds.
Just an FYI, having the same issue with the following setup:
Copes CM7 (Android 2.3.2)
Baseband 15.36.50.07U_2.09.50.29_2
Kernel 2.6.32.15r8
Build: GRH78C
Fixed
You just need to look for a ROM and kernel that works. NAND are the best for battery life by far. Just keep looking you'll find one

Have you tried entering into the phone's advanced settings?
Using the dialer input: *#*#4636#*#* then go to the radio option and select GSM only. Then reboot the phone (not necessary, but let's just do it for good measure, it'll only take a minute) and report back!
wondering if u have found a solution to this yet...
I know that I'm digging up an old thread but, has anyone found a working solution to this? I'm on EDGE and it is painfully slow when I'm trying to do anything on the phone even though my phone shows full signal. Also, the signal will drop out every once in a while and I have to turn airplane mode on and off to get it back. I'm think that I have the correct APN settings. Currently I'm using Rafdroid 4.2 with his 2.0OC kernal.
Thanks!

I just bought a Tmobile version (USA) HD2 and got it SIM unlocked to use on at&t.
This is what I did:
1. Installed the HSPL3.
2. Flashed to the latest radio 2.12.50.02_2
3. Installed various TMOUS compatible ROMs. On WM ROMs the phone works great. But my motive is to get android running smoothly.
Then I used two different SD cards to run various android versions. Froyo starts fine but only works good on WiFi. As soon as I insert the att SIM card, and the moment some download progress starts, the phone reboots after a few seconds. Not only reboot is a problem but also the phone cannot start and stuck in boot. I have to manually restart after taking the battery out for about 30secs.
I am posting this here because I have trying to use Android versions from this forum and the TMOUS forum. I believe this forum has more potential to solve my problem given the number of active members are more.
If you have a solution, please share.
Thanks
AJ
Did u try switching to 2g only or in some builds GSM only hd2 wont work with at&t 3g.
Yes I did try that too.

Roms, Radios and Android
I have tried several diff roms and radios with android and the best combo I have found is radio 2.07.50.27 with Core Cell v3 rom and this Android version, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=736545
For this version of Android all works except when you have wifi on and the phone goes to sleep it will occasionally get the black screen of death. If I turn wifi off before the phone goes to sleep, I have no issues.
Also I have used several diff Android builds with this rom/radio config with positive results.
I can't get data on my GSM, only via WiFi.
APN page in settings is totally blank. Nothing there. Is there a way to manually enter an APN?
I'm stumped.

What happens when you are not on wifi, like GSM/Edge...do you experience sleep of death?
I'm using ATT and edge works no problem for me I'm using chuckyROM and mattc 1. 5. Full RAM w everything working fine

Nope it works fine with or without wifi.....IE... Edge works just fine and wifi works just fine. Again, the sod only occurs when wifi is left on, when the phone goes to sleep, and even then it only has happened a few times.

Did exactly as your config:
Radio, Task 29, Cell ROM, hard reset, Matt Android:
No problems on Wifi
Switched to Edge(att) and as soon as data download starts, the phone shuts down. It happens almost every time I turn the Google maps ON.
You are sure that this is not happening also under Windows Mobile?
For me, it did. Turned out to be a defective GSM/WCDMA chip and mainboard of the phone had to be replaced. The same for another forum member with a HD2.
Also, look over to the Desire forum. They have the same problem, and always, replacing the mainboard helped out. Seems to be either some kind of production fault or damage due to overheating (phone generally gets very hot when using EDGE/3G).

I got my HD2 from T-Mobile here in Germany. I just installed Stock-ROM an uninstalled HSPL, called up T-Mobile service and they gave me a replacement.
So I guess T-Mobile in the U.S. is doing it also that way. The other way would be to call HTC directly and describe them the problem and tell them you already have installed the most current ROM version and already did a hard-reset. Otherwise they will instruct you first to do this.

Damn! first time ever I have had problem with a phone bought over Craigslist.
Hi guys - hoping someone can help me!
I've found the perfect droid build for my tastes and battery consumption, but the problem is, my mobile web isn't working! The 'G' or 'H' icon appears, with the 2 arrows, and the left hand side one flickers on/off every so often, but I don't get a connection.
Now, I freely admit that I'm not very good with stuff like this, so I wonder if anyone can suggest some things to try and get my 3g up and running? I pay for unlimited data on my contract, so I really could do with it!
Is it worth swapping radio, or don't you think that will be causing it?
MDJ FroYo Streak Lite v1.1
Using kernel that comes with this build
Radio 2.12.50.02_2
Winmo ROM is Chuckydroid
Cheers guys
Bump.
It's not the APN settings as I've re-entered them. Any suggestions?
Sounds like the ROM, that specific ROM has had data issues. He's got a newer version, I'd download that and try it out, or back-up your ROM and plug-in a new kernel and see what happens.
Thanks man. I guess I'll try a different build - gutted though, as I love everything else about this one!
My phone has also taken to randomly restarting itself, or just switching itself off too. That's very annoying. It's done that on the last few rom's I've used. I might just go back to WinMo soon if it keeps doing it - it's pissing me the hell off, as for some reason, texts sent when my phone is off, don't come through when it comes back on.

Alright im not going to lie to you, i dont know much about the adroid build but i managed to figure out a way to install adroid on my phone
HTC DESIRE
mod version: darkstone HD2 Froyo V3
Build number: DeFrost HD2(A0SP FRG83+CyanogenMod)
Okay so everytime im on my phone, i always lose internet connection when im on 3G, like it spans for about 10-15 minutes and then it will disconnect me. Then i have to turn on airplane mode and then turn it off and it will enable my 3G again, if i turn on the 2G network, i can use the internet for alot long but it still manages to disconnet me along my 3G. So now im mind boggled of why it constantly does this for no reason.
I tryed updating my radio but when i tryed putting the different radio on my phone, my htc screen would just stay at the 0% and it wouldnt upload onto my htc. So i had to take out my battery and start from square 1 again. Also does anyone know why my battery life is so terrible?, i fully charge it and it only lasts for about 6-7 hours at most. It frustrating because i absolutely love the adroid vs my windows 6.5 OS. So if anyone of you can please help me with this problem.
Do i need to install a new build? or tell me how to correctly update my radio, something, are my apn settings wrong? like i just dont know. So if anyone can help me, it will be greatly appreciated, thank you

Ok guys, I know that there are posts about random reboots but it seems non have a solid solution. My Hd2 has started doing these annoying reboots for about a week. I was using Tyweens NexusHD2 2.9 and all of a sudden reboots started. So I switched to Typhoon CM7 3.5.7(currently on phone now). Reboots still occur. So I did Task 29, wiped sd card, plus clean install of Typhoon CM7 3.5.7. Phone still reboots. It actually rebooted during setup. I even changed from Magldr 150/5(suggested) to 200/45 thinking it was memory related. Still rebooting. I have noticed it does it more when WiFi is on. Is there something with the latest Android 2.3.5 and Wifi? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No not at all.
I'm having the exact same problem... but strangely now even when I try older gingerbread builds, it does the same thing. Its only been recently, too... I've had the phone for a while and I don't remember it doing this.
I can have the, same build and same gps libs on my wifes hd2, and hers won't reboot. Mine will.
I even went as far as swapping out my mainboard with another one I had from a cracked screen issue... and that didn't solve the reboots.
I can't figure it out. It must be gingerbread and certain phones. Ive tried 2.3.5, 2.3.4 and 2.3.3 and they all are now rebooting. I don't know why its only been lately, too. The, only thing that solves it for me is running Tytungs NexusHD2 ROM v1.9 Froyo based. I can even add the latest agps fix and don't have any reboots. Only thing I really miss from gingerbread is the DSP bass boost which makes a huge difference for my bluetooth audio via my car.
Remains a frustrating mystery to me.

Rafdroid is a Froyo based ROM - same with the NexusHD2 v1.9g build that I'm using and so far no problems.
But when using any gingerbread (sense or non-sense) / CM7 build, I am getting those random reboots. Sometimes so much to the point where the phone is unusable. Then there are times when I could go hours without any. I thought it was something related to 2.3.5 since that's right around the time things started going strange, but like I noted - I've downgraded to 2.3.4 and 2.3.3 - and the same thing is happening. I used to use Hyperdroid GBX 7 for months without issue... now when I load it, it gives the same result. Same with Hyperdroid GBX v12, Hyperdroid CM7, Typhoon, stock bravo based CM7 Nightlies, AmericanAndroid, NexusHD2 Gingerbread version or anything Gingerbread based - period.
It also seems coincidental that the reboots started right around the time when Tmobile issued a bulletin asking for user input about recent unusual high battery draining with mobile data. I really haven't followed up and I don't know if it was determined what was causing it for some users but I am thinking maybe it could be possibly related. I can't explain why my wife's phone can run the exact same ROM and not experience the same thing yet mine does. It seems like an isolated issue - I don't see a lot of people complaining about the same issue lately. Maybe it has something to do with a specific mainboard revision/manufacturing date and some kind of over sensitivity to mobile data power output or something. As I noted in the prior post, I did switch out the mainboard with another one that I had laying around. I did take note of the revision manufacturing date stamped on the board, and they were identical. And both experience the identical problem. My wife's HD2 was bought 3rd party from a private owner at another time separate from when the 2 HD2's I have on hand were purchased. Perhaps she has a different revision/manufacturing date.
The two mainboards that I am having a problem with have a date of 2010/03/16 - they are both identical.
I would take apart my wife's to check her date and am willing to bet it's something different, but I've had really bad luck picking apart these HD2's the few times that I've done it. I've broken wifi coaxial cables and ripped flex cables. The date is stamped on the bottom of the mainboard.

I am wondering if specific phones that run Gingerbread are experiencing this lately because of this:
http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/3544?start=0&tstart=0
Like I noted - perhaps it has something to do with an oversensitivity to 3G mobile data power output, etc.

OK, I can now pretty much confirm my original hypothesis about the mainboard. I have switched it out with one that was manufactured in late 2009 according to the timestamp on the board, and that's eliminated this problem for a while now with Gingerbread entirely.
The exact problem is beyond me, but unfortunately I stick to my guns that it's a hardware issue. Not sure why it would affect Gingerbread so much more than Froyo but my guess would be it has something to so with mobile data power management or something of the sort.
So for those saying that turning 3G off counteracts this rebooting effect, try a good Froyo build to keep your 3G connectivity. The reboots didn't happen nearly as much as they did wile running Gingerbread for me (although I would get 1 or 2 every few days).
Unless you can get your hands on another mainboard... or another phone.
Replacing my HD2 entirely for now wasn't an option for me... it's the only "Android" phone that I can run with the grandfathered 5.99 Tmobile web. Any native Android phone is identified by tmobile from its IEMI and forced to upgrade to a smartphone data plan to work with mobile data. They just happen to allow legacy (less than WP7) Windows Phones work with that old data plan, which is what the HD2 is.

Never posted in these forums before, since I've never suffered any problems with my HD2 until now. So I will post it my way.
Background info:
I have been using tytung's Android ROMS since he was developing Froyo, starting with MAGLDR. Since then I've been constantly upgrading to his next releases. When cLK eventually got stable (around the latest stable GB releases I think), I switched over to that bootloader. Not having any problems. When ICS finally got it's HWA fully working I switched over to this. I had never encountered any problems with my phone ever, which I am greatly thankful for... That was until now.
My problem:
Approx a week after installing tytung's NexusHD2 ICS v2.7, I started having problems with the phone's data connection in general. When I turn on the phone, it MAY get signal to my data carrier. Sometimes I do, other times I don't. I can try to put the phone in "Plane mode", and back to normal. But that has the same effect as when i turn off/on the phone. Other times when the signal bar shows that I either have full or 50% signal (two dots), I am not able to call, send sms nor browse the internet at all. WTF!? I have tried disabling the WiFi but this has no effect. When I search for data providers(carriers?), I may find all of them after two minutes of searching, I'll find none OR it will search for ever and never come to any conclusion.
Searching:
I have searched through nearly the whole developement thread, and also searched through this Q&A thread, but I can't find anyone who suffers the exact same problems as me. There are some threads and problems similar to mine, but none of their "fixes" has killed the problem for me.
What I have tried:
- Tried the WiFixerFree-solution
- Tried different (older) kernels
- Tried flashing older tytung releases (2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6)
- Did a fresh install
- Extending the system partition (in case of bad blocks)
no success
I don't think this has anything to do with tytung's newest release. It's just weird that this recently started happening, especially after working so good for so long. Does anyone have any clue on what I can do now?
Disassemble your phone and make sure the antenna tabs are touching the contacts,I did this and sure enough one was not touching. After reassembling, full signal was restored.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using xda premium
Omg found the stupidest solution to this irritating one week-long problem.
I tried to extend the system partition even further. Weird that this solution rarely have come up as an option in the forums.
Hope this is helpful to anyone else who may suffer the data drop-problem.
EDIT: Nope... Just a temporarily solution. I can't understand why this should have something to do with the hardware, when I haven't done anything that could harm the phone in any way. But I'll do it asap, and report back. Thank you for the tip.
The 3g connection not working and I can't even use the gprs and I can't enter APNs to let the phone access the internet please please please help me
Now I can use the internet only through the Wi-Fi connection!!!!

Any good news? I have this problem also, after flashing 2.7. I have restored my HD2 back to my previous backup, but still suffering this problem.
The 3G/H signal jumps between 0 ~ 4 bars, but most of the cases it has 0 bar, then switches to edge. If the internet get disconnected, it cannot reconnect automatically. have to turn off data and back on to connect to the internet.
I flash the latest radio, no help. reflash the sd card, no help. reformat the phone, no help.
The last thing i want to try is to part my phone and reconnect the data antenna

if nothing helps/i break my HD2, then it is time to buy a new phone.
Reporting back. Just installed int2ext+, and can report back that after only 3 minutes of use that my data dropped... again. I were not able to call, and neither send sms or anything.
I will get the needed tools to disassemble my phone and TRY to fix the connections. When this is done I will report back again.
Thanks for all tips I have gotten so far! I love this community!
Fffffffffffffffff
NAH! Just disassembled my phone and straightened up the pin that was the problem for this guy
After 2 minutes of uptime, the signal dropped to two bars, then after ten more seconds it dropped to zero... Now it is back to "normal", doing random bumps from 0, to two to four bars. Soooo... f*uck
The pins were my problem, I only have data dropout when going into the market or sending/receiving MMS's now.
i have similar problem too.after using wifi tethering. 3g IS not working anymore till reboot. sometimes 3g automatically change to 2g and vice versa
Any solution?
