for cyanogen based builds, press menu button and windows, close all of them, it will return to your google home page.
for sense based builds, press menu button and more, then home. it will go back to home page.
That is my suggestion. (It is at least what I do)

I was messing with my phone and some how its running the standard UI and not Sense UI which I want to run. I have searched and looked everywhere to put it back to the Sense UI. Can someone point me in the right direction to fix it.
Thanks

you have to go into app management go to home and clear defaults then hit home and it should give you the option of home or htc sence choose htc sence
Go to menu>settings>applications>manage applications, Look for an app called "Home", selected and scroll down, you should see a button that says clear defaults, press it. Then just press your home key and it will pop open a box for you to select home or htc sense, select the check box and then select HTC sense.

Perfect thanks. The clear defaults was greyed out. But I pushed the clear data button and then hit the home button and it asked me to use Sense.
Thanks a bunch.
Running the standard Touchwiz interface when you press the home button it takes you to pane number 1.
Is it possible to change it so it takes you to pane number 4 so you can scroll both ways from the home page as on the HTC Desire?

Don't know on TouchWiz, but Launcher Pro can definitely do this.
Thanks for that, if I get no where with Touchwiz I'll give Launcher Pro a go.
I'm too interested for TouchWiz middle panel being the home.
The home button takes me to home screen #3 out of the five home screens I have. I'm not quite sure how I set it that way. I was using ADW launcher a few days before but now I've changed back to TouchWiz.
If its any help, home screen #3 for me has the most icons and a digital clock app.
EDIT: OK I think I got it. Scroll to the home page u want as default. Tap the options button and press edit. Tap in the middle of the home screen you want (I'm not sure if this does anything) and then press the home button. It should now default to that screen. If it doesn't work, try it a few more times. Careful though, if you press the home button again while on the your custom default screen, it will automatically default to the first screen again.
I've just given this a go and I can't get it to work, it just carries on going to page 1.
Why not just move your favorite page to page one using the edit function?

Because if you have the middle page as the default you can get to any page in a maximum of 3 swipes whereas it could take up to 6 with page 1 as default.
It's only a little thing but one that would speed up use of the phone when moving between tabs.

But you can always press the bubbles - circles at the top to go directly to the screen you want!

Yes you can but as they're at the top of the screen I find I have problems stretching to them when using the phone one handed.

Nope, I tried it a few times, and it doesn't work. It'll take me to page 4 for example when I press the home button, but press it again, and it'll take me to page 1.
This doesn't work for me either!

Its supposed to do that. Why would you press the home button again, when you're already at your main home screen?

If it's the same for the other guys as me then it goes to the correctly selected page only for the first time.
If you navigate to another page first then press the home button it still goes to page 1.
Ahh, I see now, and yeah it does the same for me. Doesn't seem like there's anyway to truly set the default homescreen.
Oh btw, the method I outlined previously is actually all BS . I just figured out that the home button takes you back to the homescreen you were last on.
How do you change the default home screen? Like when I press the home button it will use that instead? Cause im trying out the ADW Launcher but its not in the applications lists so I cant open it.
When using a program try holding the home button, this should pop up with a menu that says "complete action with" and show Home or ADW. Or something like that, I know Ive seen that menu before.
Yea, it used to show the menu. But then I set the Home as default action so if I press home it will bring me to the home i dont want and if I hold it, it shows a box with recently opened apps

Holding the home button is the action for bringing the recent app list. *FAIL*

Go into application settings and clear the defaults for Home.
Settings-> Applications-> Manage Applications
Scroll down do the Home application (cant remember if its called home or what, deleted my Launcher.apk ages ago after getting root). Once you have cleared the defaults. A press on the home button will show you options to select your home screen, this will include ADW, Home and TimeScape, select ADW and check "Set as default".
I was just reading about webOS and how good its interface is when dealing with multi-tasking and I realised how poor androids multi-tasking interface is. The only way I know to switch between running apps is to hold home button for a few seconds...
I personally think this can be improved by having thumbnails of open apps popup when the home button is single pressed on a home screen. Just as at the moment previews of all the home screens popup I think this should be switched with open app previews. I rarely ever use the home screen preview thing so i think its wasted, but I definitely would use app selector if little thumbnails showed.
Anybody have any thoughts on this? Im not a developer so I have no idea if this is possible but I think it would be a good feature to add and improve android. Do any devs think they can implement this??
Moved to general as not ROM development.
This would be a feature for a launcher app, so might be worth suggesting to someone like Fede who develops Launcher Pro, or cyanogenmod people that make ADW?
yes you are right. thanks. I was too lazy to find the relevant section to post under. will try contacting anderweb. or fede.
There are a couple of apps which overlays a screen on top of the current app you are in by tapping home twice, you can then open apps/access widgets without having to go back to homescreen first.
Currently im using 'smart taskbar', you can set the activation mode to be (1) tapping on a half-circle spot on either side of your screen or (2) swiping from one side to another. You can then open from a list of 5 'pinned' apps or choose from the mini apps drawer below, or click a tab called 'running' which seems the same as the current holding on home button behavior.
check out power strip. allows you to get a popup window where ever you are by doubble tapping home button (ore long press search button). there you can have quick access to widgets, shortcuts etc. really cool.

is there anyway to do this? why isnt there a menu key!
There is......It's the button on the right. They did away with search button not the menu button, is this your first Android?

no its not my first android lol , the one on the right? that brings up a long list of junk, not the regular menus (recent apps) i guess? al my other android devices, Droid, Droid2, and Bionic, all had menu buttons available any time for settings, i was wondering if there was a way to do this, as they have on the nexus phones, (yes i tried flashing it, dont do it was a bad idea.)
anyone else? the soft key on the right is the square with another behind it... brings up recent apps
It's a good idea to read up on the new version of android before posting topics to which the answer is a single google search away.
Android 3.0 did away with the menu button. now it only shows up when needed for an older app. new apps have a dedicated menu button in their UI.
you can access the settings through the notification drop down.
You must be coming off an old version of Android. The button you are looking for will be 3 little dots to the right of the square on square button. It will only appear if the app needs it. http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2012/01/say-goodbye-to-menu-button.html

Could not have said it any better.
Instead there is a contextual menu key (either top or bottom right for some reason) of 3 dots. Does that not work for you?
