How to flash into Clockwork? - Fascinate General

I downloaded ROM manager and it said it downloaded the recovery successfully, but when I boot into it, it's the stock Samsung one. What did I miss?

Hit really install packages, or apply update.zip I can't remember. But if the fascinate has the reinstall packages option I know that's the one that is used for all the other phones to boot clockwork the first time. Also if u haven't done this u need to flash the cwm recovery and or kernel with Odin.

I chose the .zip and clicked wipe data and cache. It reboots and goes to stock recovery. It won't boot into Clockwork I tried many different root methods but nothing works. Any help would be apreciated.

rom manager is not supported by the stock kernel- to use clockwork you need to use the one click on the dev forum
Can you use the Z4 method?

Happened to me too. Once you install Clockwork Recovery with Rom manager, turn off phone, then turn it on but hold the vol down and camera buttons until the samsung.com screen. Then viola Clockwork recovery.
Basically I got both recoveries on here after using the one click method. All apps that reboot into recovery goto stock which I do need a fix for.

Can't Boot Into CWM from RM

Can anyone hep?
I have tried many times to boot into recovery from RM to now avail. Cannot flash a rom or theme either...
I tried flashing CWM for another phone, then reflashing Fascinate but that didn't work either.
Thoughts? Help?
I can manually boot into CWM.
Did you flash the CWM enabling patch through Odin?
Here is the link from the two submitted guides on root CWM, etc. in development:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788099
You must run this patch before rom manager will install its custom recovery.

I'd guess flashing the wrong phone is what messed you up but if you can get into CWM recovery manually can't you flash roms/themes from there, or is that not working too? If it is working, then you don't really need be able to do it from Rom Manager.

sure did... going to try uninstalling RM, RE-flashing the Odin patch, then RE-installing RM.
Thank you though!

I had originally flashed the Fascinate, then by suggestion, flashed another phone and then the fascinate again... no luck.
I dont MIND booting into CWM manually, but so much easier to click and go, you know... laziness
You need to be rooted for ROM Manager to reboot the phone at all let alone into recovery. So just flashing CWM patch with Odin and then trying to have ROM Manager reboot the phone without root access isn't going to work.

Rooted 3.70 with unrevoked 3.31, how to flash roms?

Hey just rooted with unrevoked 3.31 and installed rom manager. No matter which rom I try to flash it fails. Am I missing a step?
Thanks.

Yes.
(Sorry, I just can't resist a chance to answer a question sarcastically )
You have been EVOfied.
Well them what is it? I'm not a noob, just don't know why it won't flash a rom

I had an issue with RM once. Go to "flash alternate recovery" then flash clockwork mod again. It worked after that because there was an incomplete recovery. Might be your issue. If not keep asking.

i really never used clockwork mod recovery so i'm not sure how it installs rom's from the app itself. Have you tried rebooting into recovery and manually wiping everything then flash the rom?
Thanks worked like a charm. Got cm7 back.

CWM Problems

UPDATE: To fix 3.0.2.4 from not formatting /system
Open rom manager and select settings, and check erase recovery. hit menu again and select clear cache, then flash 3.0.2.4 again.
now if your in recovery and you cant boot back up to use rom manager, use the file below. It will allow you to restore your backup then once booted back up use the method above to fix 3.0.2.4.
The reason im leaving custom over 3.0.2.4 is bc i know fastboot flash with this one will allow you to restore without wiping recovery or clear cache or anything else.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/b8ejhqbf3tgnsoe/recovery.img - this is CMW 3.0.1.4 just altered for installing zips. linking for people needing a recover img to boot up
To install:
1. If in recovery, open ur terminal on ur pc and type adb reboot boatloader
2. Once in bootloader it will load fast boot and say fastboot usb in red
3. cd to the folder with fastboot.exe and also place recover.img in that folder
4. then enter fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
5. adb reboot recovery
6. restore your backup and boot up
RafficaX said:
Little FYI for all, cwm recovery wont format system on a restore. made a backup, tried a flash and went to restore and it fails formatting system.
So be careful with flashing and all bc yo may not be able to restore currently with cwm.
UPDATE: format system in menu also fails! be careful bc you pretty much cant restore or flash atm!

im really hoping Amon_Ra does do his recovery on T-Bolt. I like Rom Manager and its features but would rather loose features for stability and reliability on each use.

A custom compiled one 3.0.1.4, working on porting The Ultimate Droid to T-bolt so blackdroid also compiled cwm to make sure it would install the zip but has working restore. i messaged koush on cwm twitter about the issue so hopefully he fixes it quickly. only problem is the one im running you need to flash through fastboot with adb.
Thanks for the heads up I agree I always loved CWM on my N1 but it started giving me all kinds of grief for several different reasons so I finally went to Amon Ra.

yeah, if you go on their forums all they do is flame XDA left and right. But I find it funny since their roms take advancements from XDA developers and then they incorporate it into their roms...

Yes Clockwork 3.0.2.4 is borked on Thunderbolt. I've been helping people on AndIRC's thunderbolt channel all day. Install 3.0.2.2, it's given me no problems.

I ran into the same problem. I tried to do a restore and got stuck. I used an sd card reader and put the 3rd file from the root thread PG05IMG.zip on the root of my sd card. I then put the card back in. Rebooted into recovery holding the volume down and the power button. It reflashed the file automatically and I followed the steps from 7 on to regain root. Worked for me, but now I have to start over. Hopefully they will get CWM working again. I will be much more careful about what I delete from now on. I think I will freeze it in TiBackup first to make sure everything is still working correctly. Hope this helps.

Newest Rom Manager is 3.0.1.3 but the newest ClockworkMod Recovery for the tbolt is 3.0.2.4
Under flash clockworkmod recovery it stats the current and latest recovery.
My battery died and am in the same position. Got an expensive paperweight at the moment. I'll try to get another battery today and give this a try. After fooling around with it last night, the computer wouldn't even recognize the phone. Ughh!

Where did you get 3.2? 3.0.2 you mean?

You don't have to root to install recovery and rom

Okay so
If you have cm and go back to stock you will still have the update.zip file from cwm just reboot recovery and reinstall packages this will install cwm without rooting now install your rom!

I just realized this the other day as well. In the past, I've always Odin'ed to factory 2.1, rooted, flashed Recovery with Rom Manager, and installed whatever ROM. I now have the update.zip saved and can skip the other steps.
Ummm yea, maybe thats why the roms come pre-rooted

I just flash from one rom to the next. Once in a while I will odin just to get rid of some ghosts. Most roms you dont need to do a thing with voodo. Just flash and go. Of couse I use TB for my apps
Wow that's really good to know. I always hated having to root, install CWM and then install rom. This will save me so much time. Thanks!

If you flash a lot you might want to odin back to stock once in a while in case there is some ghosts left on your phone.
Yeah, i knew this back in the Obsidian/Onyx days
Saved lots of time
