[Q/SOLVED/G2] Voicemail status problem - G2 and Desire Z General

Ok i've noticed that ever since i turned the phone on the (new voicemail) notification is on in the status bar. when i click on it it dials the voicemail but i have nothing in my inbox. The notification continues to stay in the status bar and i have done multiple resets already. any ideas guys?

I think it has something to do with visual voicemail. I know the problems is also on the HD2. Do you ever get text messages that have "129" on them?

Hmm i dont think i ever had a text like that. but i sent myself a voicemessage just to see if that would clear it up but instead i got a email, the visual voice mail notification, AND the regular "dial voice mail" notification and the "dial voice mail" is the one thats been stuck there.

SMS Notification Problems

Hi guys.
I seem to be having SMS notification problems. Upon receiving a SMS I get the notification fine, but when I dismiss it it does not go away unless I dismiss it a second time.
This is very annoying and hopefully not a "feature" of WM5 notifications.
Furthermore it does not seem possible to dismiss the voicemail notification AT ALL...
Reg fix anyone?
Thanks for any help!

I can't say you are the only one, but for certain, I do not have that problem. As for voicemail, once it is listened to, the vmail indicator/notification should go away.
Damn so then its a problem with :
a) Software I have installed
b) extended rom cab i have not installed
c) the planet alignment...
As for the voicemail yeah listening to it makes the notification go away, but surely "dismiss" should make it dismiss without needing to actually hear the voicemail ?
Anyone have any ideas ? I can post exactly what roms/software I have installed if it helps...
Cheers!
The "sms" that you have received is not a normal sms notifcation from the voicemail.
I think your voicemail has an extra option for notification, it's called "icon notification" in a normal phone you will see an enveloppe which tells you there are new voicemail messages. this enveloppe can only be deleted by listening to all new messages, after you've done that the voicemail will send a notification to your phone to turn the icon off.
BUT windows mobile 5 cannot handle the icon notification which means the icon will not be removed if you listen to your voicemail messages. while you're listening to your new voicemail messages you will notice that you will receive an empty sms (this is the notification for the phone to turn the icon off) unfortunately the phone does not understand the notification to turn the notification off, so as far as I know there's no way to get rid of the message.
I solved it by turning off the icon notification option in the voicemail, then did a hardreset and but my backup back.
I hope you understand what the option icon notification, otherwise just ask!

Go into Sound & display in manilla. Click on Notification sounds & then select Voicemail on (this is disabled by default). Then go into All Settings > Sounds & notifications > Notifications in Winmo & select a sound for Voicemail. Hope this helps.
Yeah that is on and only gives a one off sound but what about an icon on the task bar??? If I dont here the sound then I have no idea that I have a voicemail!! lol
I get a missed call icon on mine & also have set up with Vodafone to receive a text message. I am using Brians Taskbar. Are you using the stock taskbar?
Missed call icon doesnt tell you there is a voicemail though does it?
I'm using Brians too but only as of today, so I get nothing on that or on the stock taskbar.
Just checked and I too had voicemails waiting, where is the symbol on the taskbar?!

Yeah exactly!! Yet another bloody 'bug' for us poor HD2 users lol
Not quite the same as a taskbar icon... but in all settings > sounds and notification, there's a "display message on screen" option for voicemail
I don't know if the notification system for orange and vodefone is the same as o2, but when i call my o2 voicemail there is a setting for notification types. ONe to send you text, one to call you back and the last one is to send a voicemail notification to the phone.
The last option is what enables the voicemail icon in the taskbar.
I can get the notification with the LED but it keeps blinking after listening to the voicemail (when the message has been leaved with the HD2 turned off only). That's really annoying.

It's better than nothing if it stays on the screen until you close it or listen to the message?!

No idea, haven't tried it but I assume it stays on until you dismiss it.
Same problem here with the standard taskbar.Taskbar Icon is missing. Im getting stupid texts such as >@ or [email protected] I wondered what they meant untill I check my voicemail and found 2 messages.
LED Notification
Mate this is a feature!
How did you get it to work without realising?

Sorry i haven't understood.
does anyone have a solution to this?
ive been using my HD2 for about a week now and never realized this either (Im on Rogers network in Canada)
I just did a test by leaving a voicemail:
I get a missed call notification
a SMS about the voicemail
but NO VOICEMAIL icon! (usually looksl like the little tape)
Does anyone know how to fix this?
I've been into the "Sounds and notifications" menu and checked "Phone: Voicemail" and checked off "Display message on screen"
but still no icon on the taskbar?
Anyone know?
I've not found anything yet mate
At least you get a SMS notification!
I've just read through these and I'm thinking you are after the same thing I am. But just to be sure, I'm going to reword what you are looking for. Because what I am looking for (since I also get the missed call, and the voicemail text) is the option to simply tap the voicemail icon and have it dial into my voicemail automatically like I used to be able to do with my htc tytnII. For now I have to go to my phone screen and press and hold one, which I find a pain as some times I don't have time to check my messages right that moment, but I hate turning off the phone with the missed call and voicemail text still there, so I get rid of those, and then forget to check voicemail later. Are you guys talking about the same thing? And has anyone yet found a solution if so?

We do not get a Voicemail icon so do not know that we have a voicemail!!

Voice Mail Notifier

As I am new to Android I maybe missing something.
Does the OS notify you have how many voice mails you have. EG: If your blackberry was turned off for a while and some left you 4 messages. You will see the total number of voice mails on your phone.
Does android do that? Or does it need an app for that function.
an icon at the notfication bar will appear if you have new voicemail, but to actually see the number of voicemails, you have to pull down the notification bar.

OK..Well I must be doing something wrong or my phone is not setup right.
I just left two messages for myself..the phone gave off the two alerts and the icon showed up but no number indicating 2 messages...
I take you also have a nexus one?

there will only be one icon for each type of notification you have. to see how many messages you have you must slide down the notification bar (the white bar), it will show you a list of the type of notifications you have and how many you have.
yes I do have a nexus one.

Hi Melterx..I understand the notification bar....it shows the number of applications etc that you have downloaded....but I do not get two voice mail notifications from the two messages I left for my self...
Any ideas on what I may be missing?
I think you're simply missing familiarity with Android. Your phone is fine. Like Melter said... slide down then notification bar and you'll see details on each notification you have.
Can I just say I can heartily recommend HulloMail as an alternative voicemail system. It's free and in the market place. It will sync with you google contacts, sms and/or email you and essentially behave like visual voicemail.
Not affiliated, just a happy user.

Google voice coicemail notification necessary?

I am forwarding all of my calls to my Google voice account for the visual voicemail and voice to text feature. Here is the thing.... Google voice only has the option to refresh every 5 minutes minimum....
Everytime I get a voicemail, I also get an email which is push...
My question is, am I missing something or does the google voice notification seem like a waste of battery and system resources if I am going to get an email instantly anyways? Am I missing something here?
EDIT : Title should read : Google Voice Voicemail notification necessary?
in the options isn't there a box to check if you want sms and email, or one or the other?
ya i just looked, there is
In the app it doesnt have that option, but im not sure about online. My question is i guess, why would anyone want "Voice" voicemail notifications if you already get them over email. Its just one more running auto refreshing app, right?
brinkley: What does that have to do with it? You use GVoice to email so you don't need to use/pay for SMS.
But yes, it's basically a waste. Every 5 minutes for GVoice means I almost always get the e-mail notification early instead.
One thing that I am hating about GVoice integration is not being able to remove the reply text when you try to reply to an SMS via email. So your SMS reply ends up being like:
Hey! Yes, meet us there at 5:30

So you HAVE to go into the GVoice app to reply to an SMS if you don't want all that junk.
Additionally, I hate how even if you get a gmail or gvoice notification, when you go into gvoice or gmail to check, the notification does not go away? It's retarded. Additionally, why give me a GVoice notification, WHEN I'M IN THE APP!
Ugh. It's super annoying.

Well you want the notifications going through the Google voice app because you just click on the notification and listen to the message streamed to you. If you have it go through your email you can see the transcription but not listen to the message. I would go to the website and unclick send email if you have the google app.
ya I had it set up and was getting three notifications, sms, email, and voice notification in the bar.
uncheck the boxes online in settings menu so it looks like you'd get no notifications.
then you just get the voice app notification on the phone.
aldo, I have no idea what you mean. I use gv for voicemail only

Glad someone agrees. I don't use google voice for anything except visual voicemail, but it just seemed redundant. I get an email, I manually refresh voice, and there is my message.

I have the same problem. Can't find where to disable missed call notify in status bar. Turning off missed call LED doesn't help either.
I had same problem and googled it... simple solution.
Call your cell from another phone, leave a message.
Then go into voicemail on the cell and delete messages... it somehow takes care of the stuck notification, even if you've tried deleting THAT message before...

I don't think you understand what they want done. They don't want the phone to show a missed call icon in the notification bar.
Seeing as how to get rid of the messaging notification was under messaging app, i would think it would be a setting in the phone app but the phone app has no settings :/
