[CLOSED] More HSPA+ Cities Announced! - G2 and Desire Z General

T-Mobile announced more cities now with HSPA+ during the myTouch release. Here's the list of cities:
With its latest expansion, T-Mobile’s HSPA+ footprint now includes Biloxi and Gulfport, Miss.; Denver, Colo.; Huntsville, Ala.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Norfolk, Va.; Omaha, Neb.; Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz.; Salt Lake City, Utah; San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland and Sacramento, Calif.; and West Palm Beach, Fla. T-Mobile expects to reach 100 major metropolitan areas and 200 million people in 2010.

Personally, the fact that San Jose is getting is best news ever as I get my phone tomorrow. Hopefully T-Mo expands more, bringing the love to more people around this part of town. Chicago gets all the love all the time!

Nice!
I was told by a rep that it wasn't comin in my area till November but this is really good news.
Thanks for the post...

Sacramento, Calif.
Can't wait!

no where on tmonews does it say these things maybe I looked it over can you provide a link?

SO these cities mentioned are HSPA+ live right now ?

Huntsville, AL \o/
We deserve it more than any other city in the state

Yes, Huntsville is the place to be in AL.
Too bad I live just outside of Huntsville where I only get edge. I look forward to having faster podcast downloads on the way to work though, once we get HSPA+.

Definitely. Awesome city although I was admittedly hesitant to move to the hick-state initially. Great place to be in the tech business. Hopefully Google brings that lovely fiber here...
I actually am in Hazel Green so only get edge and 3G in certain parts, but most of my phone-using day is in Huntsville area. 3G leaked from Huntsville out to Hazel Green rather quickly and I hope it does the same with HSPA+... Actually, the first day I saw 3G symbol ever was within Hazel Green limits on my way to work with my new G1 one day...

It was the same post as their myTouch HD launch. TMo announced it, see if you can confirm it by reading a press release perhaps.
It's not updated at TMo's official website, but it should be here pretty soon.

Couldnt agree more with the fiber comment, this town(Huntsville) could definitely use it, especially considering the massive growth its experiencing right now.
Ive noticed the HSPA+ for about a week now, I used to get intermittant HSPA connections on my myTouch slide a few weeks back, but nothing solid, however in the last week I had nothing but HSPA connection no matter where I was at, including the freakin psuedo-bunker I work in, which I had problems even getting Edge in before.

Wow, a lot of people here from the area.
Could definitely use the fiber boost. It's an extremely tech/research-oriented city. I understand the places where the work is being done already have commercial connections, but... just give me the fiber!
If you don't already know, we have the same icon for 3G/HSPA/HSPA+ (the 'H') so it will be hard to tell what network you're really on.

about damn time they do Phoenix and Tucson at the same time!!!!!!
Man, I cannot wait. Did a random speed test yesterday and got about 7.6Mbps down on 3G.

Yes! Finally San Jose and San Fransisco

Phoenix area has been announced for some time now actually. They have been setting up HSPA+ speeds around my are for the last month now. My N1 has been basicly maxed out at 5-7mbps around my area ^_^
Now I am going to wait tell December to decide on what HSPA+ phone I want =D

Spoke too soon. Still stuck on HSDPA here in Salt Lake City. Guess I still have to wait till November...

Anyone Else from South FL Here?
Anyone else from South FL (Tri-County Area (Palm beach.Broward/Miami Dade))?
If Miami, Ft lauderdale and West Palm are getting HSPA+, does that mean the less-major cities between them are as well?
Like Deerfield, Boca, Delray, Pompano, etc since they are between these three cities

Trust me, you want the G2. The MyTouch is not only ugly, but it has a stupid name. ;-)
(Oh, and FWIW, the G2 is a VERY nice phone!)

I went to the Tmobile store in fort union to play with the G2. The phone had some settings messed up so I couldn't access all the internet, but i could open google's home page and do a basic search. It was MUCH fast than my N1.

Norfolk in the house! I went to the Tmobile store on the 30th, when I received my phone, and the reps were surprised at two things:
I had the phone before them and the fact that the H was showing up in my device.
They concluded that the towers were upgraded, but they were just waiting to "flip the switch".

Decent news, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Sprint is soft launching 4G in Salt Lake City on the 24th and officially launching in August. Some areas are already active and I have been able to pick it up in pockets around town.
Coverage will go from Salt Lake City to the point of the mountain (for those not familiar with SLC that's about 130 blocks). I'm told most populated areas will be covered.

That'll be interesting; it may be the first time I'll get to use 4G because I will be visiting my sister in SLC this July.
*sigh*... not sure why San Francisco is being deployed so late (considering that the Bay Area is the epicenter of technology).

When are you scheduled for? This "soft launch" is coming two months before the scheduled release so you might be getting it earlier than you think.

There are some people reporting 4G coverage in parts of SF already (according to Engadget). But when I picked up the phone opening day, the Best Buy rep said no more than 2 months for SF.
I'll try different parts of SF (such as downtown) and see if there is coverage there.
OP...do you mean st louis right?
Man... Phoenix area has to wait until March 2011.... oh well... My 3g as it is right now is pretty damn fast though.
the 24th isn't far off and the 4g is too spotty in SLC. Hopefully it becomes much better. I have seen 4g in Davis County (utah - north of SLC). I have heard of it in Ogden as well.

I'm trying not to worry to much because its of course not ready yet. I assume that they are going to have reasonably complete coverage. As it is now,its really odd though. You can drive down a street with 4g for 5 miles, and get perfect coverage, but as soon as you turn off on a side street,it goes out in less than a block anywhere along the route.
someone over at the Android Central forums posted something earlier today saying that he got a 4g connection in STL today. I work in Saint Louis but i have the 4g radio turned off. damn... should have tried it today while i was at work
Damn. I just moved from the Lu to Pcola fl.
St Charles just outside St Louis is up and running. It is weak but it's there
Just to give everyone an FYI. Currently there are 3 towers full operational in STL. They are on Olive/270, Page/270, and BigBend/40. Clearwire just finished the install on the roof of the 210 N tucker building today at around 3 PM. They are piggy backing off of switch and data on the 4th floor. They told me they should be turning that building up by Monday... We shall see when i get to my office on the 3rd floor.
well sh!t... maybe i should walk outside and see if i can get a connection

My office is in Clayton, and I get 4G (20% weak) most of the time if I leave the Overdrive in a window. I have yet to get a reliable signal lock with my Evo. It is good to know where the towers are though, thanks for that info. I will have to drive around town a little more and check it out.

Yeah, actually 4g was working in alot of parts of more downtown and surrounding area since a week before the release date of the evo, I read of a few people who went to I/O and came back and 4g worked. I tested it on the 5th at forest park and it worked, was getting 4mb down usually, but now when I tried today, I only got 1.8-2mb down now... Kinda sucks. And I don't get connection to my appt in ellisville.

4g live in 7 new cities in 4 states, are you one of the lucky ones to get it..?

Clearwire announced on Thursday that it has begun rolling out its 4G WiMAX service to seven new cities in four states. The lucky seven include Eugene, OR., Merced, CA., Visalia, CA., Yakima, WA., Tri-Cities, WA., Rochester, NY., and Syracuse, NY. Folks in these locales who are already rocking an HTC EVO 4G or an Overdrive 3G/4G mobile hotspot can sit back and enjoy their newly acquired 4G speeds. Those of you still sporting last year’s 3G technology now have a reason to jump on board the WiMAX bandwagon.

Just got it here in Richmond Va., unfortunately I just live 20 mins. south of Richmond in Chester . I do get 4g at work however
Springfield Ohio please .......................... FAT F**KING CHANCE LOL
I've always had it in Philly. Honestly I would of not bought this phone if I didn't have 4g coverage. I'd feel pretty stupid paying $10 extra for nothing then
Congrats to all y'all that just got it. We've had it here in St. Louis since the Evo launch, but it just went official about a week or two ago. Gotta say, it's nice!
it's been showing up in my town lately.. near garfield, nj. it's a weak signal though.
Rochester,NY
woo hoo, now i got to get me an evo. my sister has been getting 4g on and off for the past few weeks
Not official in Salt Lake City but it has been up in beta for a few weeks now. I am only seeing 2-3Mbps. Hope it gets faster when it is official.

I shake my tiny fist at you, Clearwire! It pains me to see people with ATT in my building getting 2.1mbps when I'm getting ~500kbps.
Get it out here in the suburbs of Chicago. Haven't had a chance to take it downtown yet, will try it when we hit Burnham Harbor this weekend. Will be honest, didn't look at the 4G coverage map before buying the phone ... wasn't really sure if it would bleed out here.

I'm kinda shocked at that too. I'm in Walla Walla and tried to get them to waive the fee since 4g isn't avail and probably wont be for a long time, they said within the next month or 2, we should have 4G here. Still, no love for Spokane?

Ontario (Inland Empire), is picking up a weak 4G signal. I had it pick up a signal by my home (by 10 & 15 fwy), near Ontario Mills Mall, I was able to do a speedtest before the 4G signal was lost, it did 6Mbps download, 2Mbps upload, not bad for a weak signal with 1 bar... 4G in Louisiana

Im seeing pockets of 4G popping up all over Louisiana on clears website. Anybody getting it on their phones? It looks like slidell, hammond, B.R., lake charles are all lit up in green. Anybody?
http://www.clear.com/coverage
Amazing! Good catch. I just checked last week and and there was nothing.
Haven't been in any of those areas to give it a try and just flashed CM thinking we would never get 4G...go figure.
New Iberia before metro NO? Weird. I guess I am going to have to go back to rooted stock soon and be on the lookout!
I'm very tempted to go slidell to see whats up? It looks like clear is adding places everyday. I'm always in the walmart at [email protected]
I think I am gonig to nandroid back and see if I can get anything in harahan. Doubt it but looks like they are flipping it on quickly. Will report back if I can get anything here.
Anyone tried this in any of those spots? I'm in Metairie, but it would be nice to know that at least places near me are getting 4g.

Works in lake charles. Max 5 down 1 up. Not much coverage with one tower. I don't expect to see any added anytime soon
I have been waiting for this for a LONG time I'm in Metairie BTW
I had my wife check in Lake Charles - says 4G is working
didn't expect it to come to LA for a couple of years

Does Lake Charles even have sprint 3G? The last time i was there in the summer i could barely get 3G. New Orleans better be next.
It does but experiencing the same issue as others with slow data 200-300kbps down , voice echo on some calls.

Yes Lake Charles has 3G and according to the coverage area - Fort Polk/Leesville has 4G -- all before New Orleans.

I would think it would take less time to setup 4g in leesville than in new orleans. Clears getting the smaller cities out the way first.
Swyped from my evo 4g using the xda app.
Anything in Covington? Or Madisonville area?
Lake Charles
Lake Charles got 3g January 27 2011, don't know about 4g. After waiting for years for 3g you would think they would just upgrade the system to 4g this late in the game.
Lake Charles does not have 3g yet. and every time i call i'm told it will be the end of the month since i got my evo when they came out. 4g would be nice but i live in moss bluff just north of lake Charles and work in Sulphur just west of it. Luckily sprint did not put me on a contract like they were supposed to when i got my evo so im just waiting for a better phone with a network that is in my area.
Got 3g in Lake Charles 1/27/11 absolutely positive without a doubt. Now 4g I don't know
4G in new orleans finally!
I try all the time. Living in metairie and working in old metairie I don't get it. For the 1st time yesterday in new orleans I connected on St Charles in between Julia and Girod as well at our condo on julia & baronne 2 blocks away. So could everyone around me with evo's and the samsung one. It worked great!

I was looking at that last night and thinking, no matter how great the EVO x is my EVO still holds it's own. Since Michigan will be blanketed in LTE by 2014, I am going to wait, Sprint has great plans, but lightsquared drama has to negatively impact their LTE roll out.
And why buy a phone in 2012 when I can't use 4G until a year or 2 years later. I did that with EVO, and assumed a Verizon kind of roll out.
I really hope Sprint stays on track with LTE roll out and they may retain me otherwise VZW with unlimited data might get my business (yes if u try hard enough u can get it)
Sent from my Synergized Aggressive Lionfish Evo using the XDA app
Yea, it says they will be ready by 2014, but with no specific rollout dates for my area, Michigan, I will be switching to Verizon in the next few months, once they get a nest gen phone like the One X or something similar. Verizon has had working 4g for over a year in my area now. There's no way I'm waiting another 2 years to get it here, and have dial-up speed 3g in the meantime. I gave Sprint 12 years of my business, and I hate to leave, but in today's world data is everything, and I need that to be able to do my job.
With the announcement one the HTC EVO One for Sprint, I am puzzled as to how they decide what cities to start their rollout of LTE. San Antonio? Baltimore? Kansas City?
No New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, etc.
OK, so Houston and Dallas. Meh.
With an LTE iPhone possibly coming out later this year, how many iPhonies do they think will hang on waiting while both Verizon and AT&T (yuk) are offering LTE in the biggest markets?
Sure, they're saying just wait, but really, how many people have the discipline? I probably will, but only because returning to AT&T is not an option as far as I'm concerned, and I hear horror stories about big red nickle and dimeing their customers.
What incentive do I have to get the HTC EVO One when there won't be any LTE here in LA, while my old EVO can still use WiMax?
On an unrelated question: does anyone know if LTE phones automatically switch between 3G and LTE? One thing I always hated about WiMax is having to manually turn it on every time I want to use it!
Pretty sure LTE would require manual control just like WiMax.

Hey now! Some of use are awful excited that Dallas is on that list!
But seriously. I'm wondering if the Dallas choice was because of the AT&T headquarters and the fact that Sprint phones are getting MURDERED by att speeds. (At least where i'm at)
Nothing against Dallas. Texas is a great country.
I just think Sprint needs to make a big splash about LTE if they want to limit churn. Dan Hesse has done an outstanding job so far, imo. But if I were in charge of Sprint, I would make NY,and LA, among the first cities, just for PR purposes.
Even aliens know to blow up one of those two cities when they first invade Earth!

FIRST ROUND MARKETS (14):
First round markets have no preceding markets before them. NV OEM's will mobilize in these markets and begin deployment. These markets will deploy slowly as there is a significant learning curve to Network Vision. Most first round markets started between December 2011 and March 2012.

SECOND ROUND MARKETS (27):
Second round markets start based on First Round markets completing before them. There is a lot of variability of when Second Round markets start, between June/July 2012 and December 2012. It will all depend on how quickly the First Round market deployments go. Some preliminary work is being done in advance in these Second Markets as well. It's possible that if delays begin to occur in the First Round markets, NV OEM's may hire up additional subcontractors and get some key Second Round markets going. Stay tuned to S4GRU.com for updates.

I also heard that maybe just maybe the Note may be coming over as well the HTC One... Sprint may be stepping there game up.. After reading up on the new HTC phone I may be coming back as long as though LTE speeds kick in like they should in my area...
Michigan part of the 2nd wave and no Ohio, c'mon man! This is why I hate Ohio, can't wait to move..LOL

I don't know about the rest of you, but forget LTE coverage -- I'm just waiting for Sprint to get regular coverage on the tower that's been my in my neighborhood like they promised (and their coverage map showed) for the last 3 years!
I have found the Wimax coverage in Florida to be more than adequate. No, I can't get it at my house, but I have WiFi there. But just about everywhere else when I'm traveling or in even small local cities, I get Wimax.
Sprint is about two years behind on LTE. Not very enticing to stay with them after my contract is up in the Fall. The only reason why I didn't demand early contract termination is because I like my EVO 4G phone and don't feel like spending another $300 on a new Verizon phone at the moment.
Nah Verizons, and att switches. So sprints will prob
