I am currently running ViperROM(DK28) version 3.0.3. I followed all of the instructions for fixing GPS on 2.2 and then flashed to this ROM.
Whenever I remove the DRM services I notice 2 strange things that happen:
1. Quadrant is not able to complete, it gets stuck on the first test at the Video Decoding.
2. I'm unable to select a new ringtone notification in handcent, when I press OK for my selection it hangs and I have to FC it.
The reason I want to remove the DRM services is that it appears to negatively affect battery life. I notice an improvement when they are removed. If I restore the DRM services everything starts working good again.
Any ideas?
I wont flame you,but this has been discussed plenty, search please...Anyway,you cant remove any of the 3 without losing some funcionaliy. So the only thing you can do is disable the one that runs at boot, not uninstall.I have tried this tip that orked for a day, once you have a fresh rom installed, play some music, watch a ripped movie, change a ringtone and notification, then remove all 3 services with sdx app removal or any other method you like. But like I said this will not work for more then 2 days at most

You're not the only one running into this issue.
I ended up rooting my Epic to get rid of all the sprint bloatware and what-not. Everything seemed to be going smooth from the stock standpoint. I removed Samsung Media hub first. Rebooted the phone and noticed nothing bad. Played around with the setup like that for a few days with no problems.
I next got rid of both the DRM service .apk's that were still running even after I got rid of the media hub... and then the problems started. For the first couple days I noticed DRAMATICALLY IMPROVED battery life and EXTRAORDINARY performance so I imagined what I did was a good thing: WRONG! A few days later, I noticed that if I assigned a sound to a notification or a ringtone *from the SD card*, that it would not work. I couldn't play sounds anymore and instead whenever I went to adjust the volume with said notes/tones selected, the Sound_service would crash.
However, I'm the only person I knew before now who has reported this issue so I'm sure there's not a lot of hubob to fix it. Every Epic is built different. Same parts or not. It's a mass-manufactured phone and each one will have its own quirks. There's my 2 cents.
I just froze the apps when I rooted with Titanium Backup but I thought I did something wrong and figured out that sound from apps seems to trigger the software crashes. No point if fixing it now. Flash DI18 and get the EC05 update and/or get EB13.

So can anyone confirm that the EC05 fixes the DRM issue? Otherwise there's no point in upgrading. I saw the release thread on here. Hecka people already having problems with the EC05. To upgrade for the Sprint ID packs? Won't see me do it...
Just let it do its thing. The amount of functonality you lose removing it is not worth the minute amount of battery life you'll save.

I have to disagree about the amount of battery life I'm saving being minute. When I had this damned DRM service running, I maybe got 10-12 hours with moderate usage. Without it running and now with SRF1.0.2 running (gets rid of IQ), plus SetCPU to (clocking 200-400 when screen off, undervolting 1.0-1.2 during usage) I'm getting a good 20 hours with heavy usage or I can go 2 days without charging if I only use texting.
I do actually remember getting a good bit more battery from deleting the DRM but at the end of the day I'd rather have my music files and apps work properly. I'm used to keeping a charger on me, its just the nature of owning a smart phone.
Yeah I'm with you on that one. Hopefully this will be one challenge [ACS] will be up to digging into.
I just tried stopping it in the running services menu and tested it on a few things with no issues. Doesn't take more than 15 seconds. I'll probably start incorporating it in to my TWS/Airplane mode routine (which just happens to need around 15 seconds supposedly) whenever I reboot.
That's what alot of other people have been saying too. I guess that's what I have to do.
Some threads on SDX about this say you can use some killers to stop it at bootup (personally I've always hated killers since Android 2.0, you don't need them anymore). As long as the .apk and .odex's are there. It's only when you uninstall or freeze it that you start to run into problems 1-3 days down the line.
I use Startup Auditor and it only kills it briefly. I've read all the arguments against Task Killer but I'm still a fan of it. Its especially useful to see what programs start up on their own and I do notice better performance after killing the ones that have no business being open. For everything else I just set it to ignore them.
I picked my Nexus S up this am as the store opened at 9am. I powered it on and away it went it had all of my apps dl in minutes.I had to go into work so I just let it charge on my car charger. Got to work and went to start Cardio trainer ( which is an app I use daily for about 3-5 hours per day) it immediately force closed. Force closes each time I try and use it. So i sent message to dev. The next thing I know I get a message saying that Beautiful Widgets geolocation is getting false reading from the GPS and it force closes. The GPS has been spotty. When first initiated it took over 10 minutes to get a lock. Turned it off and tried again and it took 7 minutes. The third time it was about 15 seconds and since then it alternates back and forth from almost instant to minutes again. What concerns me is that the accuracy just bounces back and forth from 32.6 ft to 16.3 ft and anywhere in between and really never stabilizes. This may be normal for this type GPS systems(I don't know) Also I have the old market and cannot find a link for the new market.Wasn't Gingerbread suppose to come with the new market? So far I am impressed with the smoothness of the system but not with the GPS. Also the lInpack scores are lower than on the Vibrant. Appears to be very solid. Anyone else have any of these problems?

It sounds like a GPS problem with your device, Just get it swapped mate
JD
I've only had FCs using the new google maps so far.
Random FC for me in maps, market and gallery :-/
ive yet to experience a FC
Cardio trainer is not working for me either, I am wondering if the dev's need to update it for 2.3, I also can't get vlingo to work.

I don't think it's a gps thing, I can't even get into cardio without it FC, my GPS locks without a problem.
phone randomly goes to boot animation screen
Ok, so it appears something is wrong with my phone. Every once in a while, i'll look down on my phone or in the middle of doing something, and it will go to the boot animation screen. Most of the time, the boot animation screen is dimmer than on normal start up. It will eventually go back to the ui, which I will then have to restart my phone because it won't connect to wifi or 3g.
Anyone else had this problem? Think it's worthy of getting a replacement from bestbuy or a glitch that should be fixed with an ota?
I haven't seen anything like this yet, though I suppose I don't keep my eye on my phone constantly, so I suppose it could have happened while I wasn't looking. No WiFi or 3G problems, either.
Sounds like you've got a serious issue there if you're seeing it a lot, though. I would get it replaced. Unless you're running a third-party ROM or some other non-stock mod, in which case dump it first and see if the problem is being caused by that.
Yea I had this happen twice. At gym was changing a track with Bluetooth headphones and went to dimmer bootscreen had to pull battery. And another time I had to reapply all my Widgets on my homescreen. I'm on CM7 rom

Are you using a custom ROM/kernel/SetCPU? Those problems sound like the ones the D1 has when it's clocked past a stable speed.

I'd look at the software you've added since the phone was purchased as the first primary suspect. Weird widgets, background services, live wallpapers, background syncing app, something like that...
You'd want to wipe/reset the phone before a return anyways, so why not do a factory wipe/reset from the settings/privacy menu, then start off with a fresh phone (software wise)? Be conservative in what apps you install at first, and check for stability; then slowly add back the stuff you'd have one by one and see which app from the Market causes the glitch.
I think that's a bit more fair to Samsung, Best Buy, and whoever ends up with the device as a refurb, than returning what is probably not bad hardware to the store.

Hmmm...and you don't think the fact that you're using ALPHA level firmware that is known to have some bugs in it, might be your problem?
I'd expect that kind of thing with CM as long as it's alpha, and even beta. I wouldn't be surprised with it even on the RC versions. It's experimental until Team Douche releases an actual ready-for-prime-time version.

Nope, I'm not even rooted. I am however running ADW ex launcher. As far as widgets, the only widget i have running is the weather/news that came stock on the phone. As far as apps, I really don't have anything crazy downloaded or running.

I've been running ADW.Launcher without problems up to now. I just upgraded to ADWLauncher EX last night; I'll post here again if I start seeing this issue.
this is similar to the other topic.
Random Reboots, we call it on the SGS (samsung galaxy s) side
hoping for the best, it is not the same deadly problem we found on some of the 16GB SGS phones, that eventually lead to the corruption / destruction of the internal SD
but those were the signs.
so i'm really hoping that is not the same problem, else i'll really be pissed with Samsung to produce yet another crappy phone with cheap internal parts.
it should not be, as i saw pictures of the innards of the SNS (samsung nexus s) and it was clearly showing SandDisk for the 16GB internal SD
Random Reboots
A couple of times I've had the Nexus S reboot, once when I was in the middle of a call and once again as I was messing around with the settings.
I'm running 2.3.1, th latest build GRH78, does anyone have an idea as to why the random reboots are occurring?
Thanks in advance for your help

Anyone having issues with (system) clock after updating Xperia Play to 2.3.3?
I've missed couple of morning wake-up's since updating to latest firmware. When checking the handset , there's no any indication of error, but the "generic" clock on notification bar has frozen. Also, of course, the alarm does not occur.
I think this can be relate to flight mode which I use over night. When I disable the flight mode, the clock updates correctly to current time..
Otherwise I very much like this toy.. Playing Rainbox Six and Nova 2 and all those emulators
I'm on 2.3.2, and I'm having issues with the clock as well - the date and time simply do not update properly at random times.
And this may not be an exclusive problem to the Play, but when the time/date get all out of wack, it completely screws up your timeline of sms/mms messages.
Very strange problem to have, not to mention it makes me paranoid the phone is completely unreliable.
I used to have issues with the clock, it seemed to fail the updates via the service and gave me one hour less than the actual time (light saving thing if that applies in you countries)...I´m on 2.3.2
What I did was uncheck the automatic network updates...problem solved...I´ll have to adjust the time manually twice a year but I can live with that. HTH
I can confirm this on my UK sim free 2.3.3
Do you guys use task killers
Because it kills the clock at times stops it completly
Sent from my R800i using XDA Premium App
Yep, same issues.
No task killers.
No task killers here, unrooted unmodded etc...
Stock phone.
No task killers, completely stock R800a.
Probably problem in baseband with automatic clock updating, as mentioned by Bluero. X10 had same issue on one baseband version, where auto clock didn't work.
Please, all of you having issue, report here, and note that you have clock issue.
Read first post for reporting instructions.
Anyone running this combination?
CM7 B2TF, Faux kernel (any version, overclocked or not) and Launcher pro?
I seem to get a ton of force closes of launcher pro all throughout the day, and a 3 or 4 times a week I'll look at my phone and notice it has randomly shut off.
I'm not undervolting and the phone does not run hot.
Thoughts?
i've had that before but i think it was due to a kernel or radio. I have cm7 with faux
1.30 and haven't had any problems. Maybe a random reboot everyweek but i can live with it.

I had the same configuration as you and after installation i had a lot of FCs. I rebooted the phone and fixed the permissions and problem was solved.
I'm using ADW EX (which I don't like as much as Launcher Pro) but no FCs in the last day and a half.
I was running this combo for a while, LP never force closed but if you are running launcher pro with the LP Widgets such as the twitter or friends you may have a couple.
I used to have the Facebook/twitter widget on one home screen and it would force close all the time, once I removed the widget I never get a force close, this problem goes back to moto builds for me.
Sent from my Motorola Atrix 4G MB860 using Tapatalk
Thanks. I was actually thinking that might have something to do with it because the facebook widget would seem to hang from time to time. I did end up getting rid of that but I still use the calendar widget because I use it all the time.
Yup that's why I left LP+ for ADW EX. LP+ just went crazy on me and started force closing constantly, I tried changing every setting I could but nothing made a difference. ADW hardly ever force closes. Like you I had preferred LP to ADW, but not anymore! ADW pros far outweighs LP pros imo.

Same here. Switched to Go Launcher and no problems now. Also fixed permissions.
Preaching to the choir my dude.
FC's everywhere, random reboots, GPS blows.
Sadly, I think it's the best we have so I'm just dealing with it now.
my best advice? don't run cm7 b2tf....
run weekly 4.
Hey all,
So I've had my S8 since launch and I've enjoyed it but I have an issue that I've been trying to pinpoint the cause of for a few weeks now. At a high level, if I reboot the phone in the morning, I can use it all day as I wish and it works perfectly, no slowdown anywhere and good battery life. I plug the phone in at night when I go to sleep and when I wake up I start using it again. Either right after I wake up or over the course of a few hours the phone begins to slow down with things like notification shade/app switcher crawling until I either a) reboot or b) change display resolution. Doing either of these "fixes" it until the next night and then again when I wake up I have the same issues.
I've been trying to figure out what's causing this. I've tried disabling features, uninstalling apps, etc.
One thing I have found is that when I'm having this problem if I force close 'System UI' in App Manager (this is just restarting that process since you can't kill it really) the smoothness comes back but it doesn't last as long as when I either reboot or change resolution.
My theory is that something is conflicting with the Android UI and over time it's causing it to slow down. Rebooting or changing display resolution restarts the Android UI so essentially same thing.
My first question is has anyone seen this behavior where the notification shade/app switcher (native UI not apps) slow down? I know there's at least some people on Reddit with same issue. If you have this issue does FC'ing System UI 'fix' it for you temporarily?
I'm trying to figure out what is running on my phone while I'm sleeping at night which is obviously causing this. Any ideas would be helpful. Oh also when I wake up and I go into app switcher it only shows like 3 cards where before I go to bed it would be like 10+ so something is killing apps at night too. I turned off Google backup for today and will reboot before tonight to see if maybe that's it.
Appreciate your help.
Thanks.
I've had my S8+ since the launch weekend on ATT, always connected to my Gear S3, and connected to my Misfit Ray. I've not noticed any slowdown of the UI. My AOD clock is slow to show the hands if the screen is off when I use the numerical clock AOD, but nothing else observed.
I would guess you've installed (or haven't uninstalled/disabled) some apps that are using a lot of background processes. I removed/disabled the few ATT apps on the device except Call Protect, and I don't use Gmail (resource hog). I actually use very few Google apps, they're just not very well coded, it seems (maybe a "goof off" day every week isn't such a great policy?)
In settings, go to Device maintenance, click on battery, and see if anything strange is going on there under App power monitor.
I've NEVER liked Samsung phones, and I've NEVER been interested in owning one, but I saw the Galaxy Gear S3 and fell in love, and truthfully, I bought the phone as an accessory to the watch, so I'm not an apologist for any shortcomings.
Instead of restarting, go to settings/device maintenance, what's the percentage here? go to optimize, does it help? which apps use the battery most? How much RAM is available. If nothing shows up, you probably would need something like wakelock detector (it needs root) to trace apps usage, especially at night. Also you could try to force stop other apps and see which one is interfering? For example phone is slow, force stop first 10 apps, if not fixed force stop next 10, if fixed, next time force stop one at the time from that batch of tens.
Mines just started doing this the other day. I think I have an idea if the problem, I'm just trying to find proof at this point. I recently downloaded this all to let me see the upload/download speeds if my network in the notification bar. It lets you set the refresh rate, to which I set it to 2 seconds, which I knew regardless would tax my system, I just didn't expect my ui to slow to a crawl.
Delete any Bixby remapping app as well, known to cause many issues including unpredictable lag.
