This should help get the ball rolling a lot sooner.

Nice. Hope they offer replacements for the defective units without a hassle.

Congrats, you win one internet!
But seriously, im gonna tweet that article to T-Mobile, maybe it will make them offer replacements and money off our bills for the hassle, lol.

While I can see that screen thing maybe slighty annoying if I am trying to use the keyboard while lying in bed I don't think it is deffective. I checked mine and 2 of my friends and they are the same as far as holding the phone upside down and the screen opening that is normal design so no need for exchange there.
But if you have verticle play or push especially when closed that would be a problem. All g2 that I saw have the same availbe install apps program the full 4 won't be available since the different system partitions take up that space

I was wondering how long it'd take a gadget blog to pick up on it
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

I emailed a couple of their editors this morning about it, as I'm sure a few others did too.

How in the hell don't people notice this stuff until users report it? That's some journalism.
So, some users are reporting that their phones do not suffer from the hinge issue. If any of you are present, would you mind creating a video?
Crossing my fingers that my G2 doesn't suffer the same fate.

Thanks for your help in getting me on engadget guys. This is seriously the best day of my life. I'll look back at my wedding next year and say " Pffftt, this won't be on engadget though"

I guarantee you that my phone doesn't do that. I've seen his video, tried the same thing with mine, and as I posted in the other thread -- it opens a mm or two. If I shake it while holding it upside down by the back (which is kinda difficult to do), it opens a little more, but still not nearly that much.
I also emailed Engadget about it this morning

Thanks Jorsher.
Not to call you a liar, but would you mind posting a video, if you could? That way, if the issue does pop up, we could reference your video to T-Mobile / news sites to show that not all phones are acting this way (getting us replacement units).

I took a quick video of mine, the hinge is not as tight as I would like but it doesn't fall out whether the keyboard is open or closed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOhbEvlzBbI

Thanks, cyricc.
That would definitely annoy me, but it's not as crazy as the original video that made it to Engadget.
Still crossing my fingers for my unit to arrive without issue. After going through two Vibrants, I'm about at wits end.
Thanks again to everyone posting these videos or writing about these issues. Keep 'em coming.

You're going to be famous. Keep rolling out videos of the G2

Going from the two videos, mine falls somewhere in between the two. It doesn't stay open when inverted, but also doesn't completely open when inverted closed.

The Truth about the Nexus One. *NON-BIASED*

Now that I have sold my Nexus One. i was very sad immediantly just because the phone was sexy as hell and amazing speed. The college i got accepted to sends all incoming freshmen a iphone 3gs and are required to use it to keep in contact with professors.
Now that thats said i want to continue with whats the truth about the nexus.
1) i had a problem with the headphones along with alot of other people when listening to music threw your headphones that came with the nexus you would get a shock... for me it mostly happend when i was plugged into a computer
2) DUST...omg the dust i got under the corner of the screen was annoying the crap out of me. i couldnt get it sent back because i wanted to keep the engraving on the phone. and i didnt want to wait 2 weeks for them to send me my phone back.
3) the phones speed is AMAZING but i feel as if google hasnt completly utilized the speed and GPU yet. *if they can pull this off, things would be so much better than the iphone*
want to add other things about this phone *without being biased* ? go ahead lets see if we can get some good information in here for new android users
Yeah...
Non-biased my ass. The only thing the iPhone does better than the N1 is the app store. To say they need to work on their GPU is just a pathetic representation of a review...
I'm not even going to try wasting my time to make this a worthwhile thread. OP, you're just... Ugh..
Too LAZY to send it back and wait a couple weeks for a problem... That's YOUR fault. There's policies in place to remedy issues... *****ing isn't the appropriate remedy.
P.S. Shocking from earbuds happens with more than just the stock headphones. Go google it.
they need to fix the dust under the screen issue.
!maybe a way to upscale low res images from the interwebs so they don't look like ass on the high res display!
but honestly, i have been more then happy with my Nexus after selling my 3GS.

THe headphones that come with the N1 doesn't work well on other standard 3.5mm jacks because the pins are specifically designed for the N1. Apparently if you insert the headphones into your computer half way it should work like normal headphones.

To the OP: cool story, bro.
There was exactly no reason for the OP as he just stated a few well-known issues that people can experience with this phone. Every device has a its own set of issues and the OP will now be fortunate enough to experience the many IPhone problems.
I think we'd all be better off if this entired thread was deleted.

People are growing tired of "it's okay, it's only the internet" as a justification for poor grammar and ill-written thoughts. It is also rather ironic that a person is off for higher education and is unable to use simple words correctly. Perhaps they should be handing out dictionaries and the like rather than iphones...

Let me help you with that since you'll need to know this in college:
i spelt threw wrong....woah! you're big and bad.
Your is a possessive term, where as you're is the conjugation of "you are". So in the future, make sure you check if your usage is right by replacing the term with "you are" and seeing if it makes sense to you.
Anyway dude...bro... you need to grow up and stop acting like an e-Gangsta. To be fair, nothing you posted is anything new. We've all heard it all before and so the thread is a flaming waste of space. That being said, good luck in college.
The phone has a powerful processor and an impressive amount of RAM. I dont think it uses either one nearly to its potential (at least i hope not), which is kind of cool because, although the phone is smooth and fast, the performance ought to be able to be vastly improved with software updates. I like the phone a lot but i also think its fair and justified to expect a lot more from it down the road.
If anyone that knows about hardware can confidently tell me not to expect much more from the device please post that information so that i may sell this phone. thanks
'Through' is the correct spelling. 'Threw' is the past tense of 'throw
"Yesterday, I threw a ball through a hoop."
I'm glad Jesus can afford iphone 3gs's for all students!
Jesus is a baller, lol, im still confused about this dust issue, does anyone have a picture of what this is all about? I got mine the day it launched and I have no idea what people are talking about I havent had any problems with dust and really cant see how it could get under the screen, I keep mine in my pocket every day so Im sure it woulda happened by now if it could. Id also have to agree that the only thing the iphone has is the app store, once androids gets up there it will be a lot better because there's a lot more potential. Id already have to say that handcent, dolphin, and google voice are good examples of that because apple only lets you use their stuff and blocks something if they already have an option is pretty wacksauce in my opinion, why not let the people choose which they like the best, makes no sense to me. Oh well. /rant

[CLOSED/G2] Problem with non spring loaded hinge

I wanted to make this thread because I've read in a few different threads that people are having problems with the slide up screen.
Apparently, if you hold the phone upside down - the screen will slide down and sort of just do it's own thing.
I also read that some people who have their G2 are not experiencing that same problem. Defect? Or is it supposed to do that and is a result of bad designing?
I plan on getting my G2 Oct. 6 and I just wanted everyone to be aware of that potential problem.
If you are having or not having that issue, feel free to let it be known below.
Thanks!!
I'm pretty sure it's a defect with a few people's phones. So far, only one person out of like 6-7 said it happened to them. Maybe he could tighten a torx screw or something? Not too big of a deal... I guess we'll see!
I thought the issue was when it's closed, people hold it upside down and it starts to kind of open up?

I have this issue. If you hold the bottom of the phone, and them hold the phone upside down, then the screen portion slides along the hinge all on its own.
I believe this is an issue with it being a non spring loaded hinge, but I will confirm tomorrow maybe if I can drop by a T-mobile store and ask to see their demo ( I think they will let me if they see I have one)
Hmm.. I'm pretty picky about these kinds of things. Crossing my fingers the G2 I get will be solid.

See I can't really call it loose. And if it were any firmer it wouldn't slide right. I just guess I wish it would hold tighter? I'm not sure. Its solid as hell , and the hinge is metal , and slides like butter, and when in the up it has a very slight wobble? Maybe its something to get used to.
It doesn't feel cheap by any means. But in that respect I'm not entirely sure how it is supposed to feel..being one of the first owners and all.
i don't like that it "falls" open, not that i hold the phone at that angle very frequently, but it would annoy me later on. but as already stated, it's not really loose, the only person to use this thing was me all day and it was like this right out of the box, i think the hinge itself is a little too slick(greased or internally loose) but it may get better with time. we will see what happens, as with all things we won't know till later
Haha man, I'm not even pre order status. I have to wait until it comes out. But I got a homie who works at T-Mobile. He said he gonna hook me up some how.
But yea, I wonder if they will fix this on 2nd gen models. Not wanting to wait that long tho. Sucks that this is an issue tho.

I wouldn't even say it needs fixing. The G1 wasn't even solid initially. The left side wobbled etc. The EPIC has wobble side to side when screen is closed and when open.. I think this is the most solid slider I have used since the TP2. I guess I'm just gripe-y
hehehe! I'd rather have this issue than the one on the MTS. You practically need a crowbar to open the keyboard. and as you open it, it makes a horrible grinding sound.

A different kind of comparison...HTC EVO vs Chrome OS Netbook (First Entry - 2/3/11)

So yesterday i received a cr-48 from google. I about **** myself. Being one of the lucky ones i decided to start a blog that compared my evo and the netbook. What I'm looking for is ideas to do comparisons on. From simple to complex and anything in between. After a day of pretty intense use i haven't been able to find much on the basic side of things that one trumps the other on.
So shoot me ideas on what i could try to make these 2 devices do battle with. Post 2 will be reserved for things covered and things to be covered. I will try to keep up with this as much as possible and post my review and comparison at http://evovscm48.blogspot.com/

I will agree that the Echo is a big disappointment, and I comment on sprints facebook that way.
After watching that youtube, (before that all I saw was the one pic showing off the huge hinge) the echo does look kinda cool. It's the processer, and the rest of the specs are weak.
Has anybody seen how much RAM/ROM it has? Also is that the second gen snapdragon, like the 800mhz one in the G2? The running two seperate screens at once is kinda cool.
Someone needs to be fired.

I find it hard to believe that there wasnt a handful of people at sprint that thought this was a terrible idea. I wonder it this was a one or two man mainshow as far as approval of the idea of the phone.
There is literally one or two positive comments amongst hundreds of borderline verbally "violent" comment against the Echo.

Seriously? This is what Sprint got all excited about. A single screen dual core phone would have been much, much more exciting.
I think Kyocera makes the best music....listen to the song they have on the youtube ad....It's great! I feel like I'm back in the '80s!
im pretty sure majority of sprint agreed that it was a failure, but kyocera pushed money and persuasion into this event.... im willing to bet sprint wanted nothing to do with this phone and kyocera paid for the event, not sprint.
So was this the equivalent of being rick rolled by sprint? I never expected to get trolled by my own phone company, they should know its bad business to play with peoples emotions when you are trying to get money from them.
But then again this is the same company who called the epic, well, the epic.

Samsung Note in the Super bowl!

Surprised nobody has commented on this -
Samsung is going to have a NINETY second spot during the superbowl!
A normal 30 second spot costs around 2-3 million bucks, and samsung is buying three of them! Whoa
The commercial is being directed by the Farrely brothers (There's something about mary, etc)

That's odd... people normally don't even notice how big the phone is when I'm talking on it... (possibly cos it's mostly hidden by my hands ).
People do, however, notice its size if I'm using it for other stuff like messaging or browsing...
OT: I'm really happy Samsung has been pushing this phone into the mainstream so much. It's an awesome device. And it'll be even greater with all the development support that comes from being a mainstream success.

Not a big fan of the commercial to be honest.
They sure didn't say much for a 90 second spot.
But I guess the whole point is to get people talking about the note, and then the Note will take it from there.

I hope they do something outrageous about it like it having a dual personality, a phone and a tablet, and it falls in love with an iPhone and follow it across the country. Oh wait, they already did that.
EDIT: ARRGH, my post is too late.
GIANTS won! Yeaaaaaa
Thought it was great! Really makes people think about a bigger better option, the Note. No hard sell just fun and entertainment, better than the half time show. The next three ads will do the rest. Haven't met anyone yet that didn't want my Note.
I won't say the Giants won as much as they just got lucky.
Waste of 9 million bucks. Terrible Imo
From the giant: Galaxy Note
why what do employees refer to it as?
Wish the ad showed some of the features of note, rather than people screaming around
Was really hoping for a much better spot outta Samsung on this one. Thought their previous commercials were great. Although i will say, i had 3 friends text me saying they saw a commercial for my phone.

^^^ This. If I didn't know what the ad was for (and I hadn't been following the Note for months now) I would think it was just another Android handset with that pointy stylus thing that Steve Jobs said was bad. Not a single thing special about it. Didn't feel like 90 seconds; seemed like it was over and I was still waiting for some tangible "here's why this thing is awesome" moment(s). Oh well. As the Note has done elsewhere in the world, I'm sure it'll sell itself on the merits as people start using them.
The add was lame. I was sold on the specs alone before the thing was ever announced (just rumored) ... Of course we have to remember, most people aren't nerds like us...
The downside to it's success is that, unlike the Dell Streak I'm writing this on, I wont be the only person I know who has one! When I whip out the Streak I always realize that no one has ever seen a phone like this. That is about to end...
The upside is of course that the development from this community, and the updates from Samsung should be great.
