Android Sense foward calls unintentionally (Mattc Leo + Froyo w/Sense 1.8) - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Alright right now I'm running Mattc Leo + Froyo w/Sense 1.8
HUGE problem I always seem to do even when being careful.
When I get a call slide up to forward and down to answer always forwards when taking it out of my pocket (since I have my screen faced towards my leg just so if anything hits my leg the back of the phone takes the beating instead of the screen)
Anyone else forward calls or answer them unintentionally?
Pretty annoying.

+1
I´m also annoyed from Sense slide to answer. I can hardly pull the phone out of my pocket without rejectig the caller.
Wish there would be a way to get back to standard android sliders, like it is possible with the lockscreen.

Idea for fun app??

Hey all, could consider me a bit of newbie...iv had my htc diamond for a while now and have got a cooked 6.5 rom on there.
just the other day I had a bit of thought - everyone know how they put there phone down somewhere and when they come back to it, they know someone has played with it but they dont know who?
well my idea...using the g-sensor in the diamond, or if someone presses the middle button (not all know to press the on/off button), that the phone will take a photo using the front camera and capture the person who attempted, or did eventually get into your phone...
I know it sounds random, but I thought it could help some people, and might be an enjoyable task for someone to create

[Q] Really annoying trackball issue (HTC Magic 32A)

Hey all,
My phone has a really annoying issue with the trackball. Every so often whilst using the phone, (and not the trackball), the phone acts as if the trackball had just been moved up. For example, if i'm typing something, sometimes the cursor will just move to the line above (meaning any further typing goes in the middle of another word). Also, sometimes on the homescreen my first icon will be highlighted as if i'd just selected it with the trackball. I'm pretty certain that i'm not actually bumping the trackball, and this is getting pretty annoying.
This has happened on every single ROM i've tried. From stock, to CM4, the official sense ui rom, then CM5 and now CM6 RC2 and nightlies. Which makes me think it is some sort of hardware problem. Has anybody had a similar issue with their phone? Is it caused by static buildup or something that can be easily fixed or do I need to send it out for warrenty?
If I do go down the warrenty path, I'm wondering if i should flash the official sense UI RRU and use a goldcard to root it again afterwards. Do you think they'll notice if i put the official sense UI update on but with a non-perfected SPL? (by not flashing the hboot.img from the RRU)

Disable haptic feedback. Sometimes the vibration can rotate the trackball causing an involuntary movement of the curser.

Ah really? Drats, i quite like having haptic feedback... I'll try disabling it and see how it goes, i suppose
Or just adjust the haptic feedback so its not quite as strong (CM6)

[Q] Black Screen when starting a Phone Call, and finishing how to come back?

I've in my htc hd2 the Dutty FAM v6 HD2 rom, and I was trying an Android build (mjdejay Clean 2.2)...
It seems everything runs ok, but I've done a Phone Call, screen automatically got black (Off, like in WM 6.5), but when i finished the call, i cannot get screen on again... I've pressed all the buttons, but nothing appears to happen...
If i plug usb wire into HD2 it comes back, and if i do an incoming call, i can take it...
Nobody has got samething? Thnx!
UPDATE: I think that my HTC HD2 has its proximity sensor broken...
A number of members have the same issue. I do. But not always. No fix for the moment.
move the fone away from ur ear
also , get a better rom (even tho i have a mdj build myself)

Gee at least you didn't say buy an android phone. To say take it away from your ear is redundant. And to try a better build is just as bad. Why did you even waste your time replying?

this happened on my phone occasionally (though i haven't experienced it yet with mdj s4 kenel), anyways...
if the screen stayed black after moving the phone away from my ear, id cover the light sensor briefly with a thumb (or whatever!) BEFORE pressing the end call button, this always restored the screen. may work for you?
Hi. I have same problem. Now I have MDJ Froyo Sense 2.4. It is very frustrating all roms what i tested has this problem... Is any solution? I tried to disable automatic display brightnes but without success...
Just to make you feel you are in company I have this issue too. It is the single biggest pain in the ass about android and it isdriving me maaaad.
Still better than rocking WM though.
Same problem here, about 90% of the time. It's most annoying when you're on some automated service that asks you to press a number and you can't get your screen on to bring up the dialpad!
Rest assured though, pressing the end call button does indeed end the call. Just leave the phone alone for a minute or so afterwards and it appears to back to "normal".
Finally i have found a workaround
Hello, after many tests i have found good workaround. It is very simple. Download from Market: "Speaker Shake" (there is avaible a free version) and install it. Then set it like on my screenshot. (important setting is "Speaker Always ON"). Now when you start a call, this app automaticly turn on speaker - this event wake up your phone and then is end of your "black screen". After this you can again switch off speaker in time of call...
Sorry for my bad english. I hope that it will help to you..
I use MDJ FroYo Sense Clean v. 2.4 [kernel: MDJ S6.1]
Thanks. I will give Speaker Shake a try.
Just a little happier right now as others have this issue and that it is just not an issue with my phone.
I am sure it is just an incompatible driver somewhere. Never noticed it in prior builds but with new builds it happens. But not always. But I did notice if I am able to select speaker then turn speaker off the issue doesn't happen. But then the screen does not go black when I put it to my ear.
To me this is a much bigger issue than data freezes. Makes using my phone as a phone almost unbearable.
Hoping someone who knows how will look into this issue soon.
Tried Speaker Shake.
Calls are automatically with speaker on and screen stays awake. However after turning speaker off the screen goes black and won't turn on again.
Nice fix if using speaker ALWAYS but still doesn't help for normal calls.
I tried it many times and this issue "after turning speaker off the screen goes black and won't turn on again" i had only once.
I have changed this app and now it turns speaker back to normal. You can try it. For my is it now best solution how to avoid black screen....
And i forgot to say that you need to have switched off automatic brightness of display..
Has anyone tried covering the light sensors for a few secs?
Not the best solution but it always works for me, can live with that till it gets sorted.

Hello. I have a problem with unlocking the phone. When I lock the phone and try it again to unlock the screen lights up only in black. Sometimes it takes a second, sometimes longer. You have the same problem? Any fix?
Thanks petapen. I will try your modified application.
Still wondering what the issue is here. Newer kernal issue? I believe I am still running hastarin 8.3.
Edit: And for other poster.......covering light sensor or exposing it to bright light does nothing once it turns black.
If anyone have any another solution. Please let me know....

Screebl.....
If you haven't disabled auto brightness, do that. Secondly, some roms require a person to press the "call" key to wake the phone up.
Lastly, try a different rom, just remember to shut off auto brightness. I wish they came with that defaulted to off anyway.
Bumping this thread to keep it alive. Had a 50% chance of keeping the screen on, in froyostone v3.1. But it always came back after hitting end call key.
With MDJ FroYo HD v.4.3 the screen goes black everytime. Even after call the screen does not come back on. Only work around is to have someone call my phone and reject the call with the call end key. Then the screen turns back on.

Touch Screen Unrsponsive after pocket time

My touch screen is unresponsive after I pull my streak out of my pocket.
After a minute or so it start working again.
When I first received it I did not have this issue.
I have flashed DJ_Steve's rom.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Should I send it back to Dell?
just saw your post after posted my one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876931
did u try in landscape mode?
So when I pull my streak out of my pocket it is on the lock screen, which for me is always landscape.
And with the screen unresponsive I can't unlock it.
To add a little more detail, sometimes the screen is only partly unresponsive. e.g. I can sometimes partly move the sound drag button, or the unlock button, but not fully.
I have had this issue after flashing 1.4.6, my streak is in landscape. I used dell 1.6 before that with no issue.
I have been using no lock off the market, when at home to by pass the problem, however the screen can still be unresponsive but only parts of it, for example one row of apps on the home screen can be pressed but others cannot.

Have you guys tried to do a screen calibration that worked for my streak 2.2 Dell bug fix version
It's not just you guys, I have this problem as well. I miss atleast 5 calls a day because I can't get it to slide to answer the phone call. As far as the home screen from pulling out of the pocket, I have found the pattern unlock to work the best with no problems. If I get a phone call, I try pressing the go back button on the capacitive screen and turn it to landscape and it seems to work. A pain...but I guess running a custom ROM has to come with a little sacrifice. I'll live though.
Doing the screen recalabrate worked.
That so does not make scene but it appears to have fixed my problem.
Thanks
No prob man

I have found that doing a long press on the power button to bring up the power of menu, then going back to home screen makes it all responsive again. Not a fix but lets me unlock with out having to wait for a minute or so.
I've had a similar problem before too when I first got the streak! Try keeping it in your pocket facing out and away from your leg instead of toward...
Also - maybe the type of material a person wears might affect it. I noticed this problem occurred more in my jeans facing my leg than in my suit pants facing out.
Mine's been doing this since I went to 2.2
Evidently the update made the screen more temperature sensitive or less, depends on how you look at it. I noticed that if I had the phone in my pocket facing my body, it was unresponsive until the screen cooled. Then it responded again. If I put my phone in pocket facing away from body, no issues. I also noticed it was unresponsive after I was on the phone talking ( the heat from my cheek?).
Have not found a resolution to this other than to keep the screen "cool" at all times so it would respond to the warmth of my fingers.
Just another bug in the 2.2 update it seems, so until Dell does something about it, Punk'd by Dell.

+1. I started putting it in my pocket screen out a few days ago (whether jeans pocket or inside jacket pocket), and it hasn't happened once since. When I do forget and put it in my pocket facing in, it's a 50/50 chance it will happen.
It seems as though constant contact with skin (through a thin layer of cloth) desensitizes the capacitive screen somehow, even (or only?) when the screen is off. Strange that the issue never occurred on Donut. (I'm on DJ Steve's Froyo 1.5.1 now.)
I hadn't thought about temperature as a possibility, and I doubt that's all there is to it. Anyone live in an extremely warm climate who has had trouble with screen sensitivity in other circumstances?
+2
This can be greatly reduced by the way you carry it in your pocket... I'd much rather have it facing inward - but then the sticky unlock acts up. Facing outward it rarely happens.
I don't think anyone noticed this on donut because you only had to press the menu key to unlock... not use the screen. Question is, was this happening on 2.1?

I will try that for a few days, I had noticed that it did not happen if left the phone on the side or on my desk all day.

I always used a pattern unlock on Donut, not the Menu key, and this never once happened in over a month of daily use. Day one after installing Froyo I had to stop using the pattern unlock because it was driving me nuts trying to unlock the thing after taking it out of my pocket. Of course, any unlock I tried was impossible with this issue, and the only thing that really worked was just waiting for it to start working again.
No idea about 2.1, I only had it installed for about an hour.
i solved putting the streak in pockets with the screen towards the ouside of the pocket, and not facing the leg
+1million to all of this.
This was driving me nuts, thought I was the only one, exchanged the streak once already because of it.
Just had my coworker the cubicle across from mine try putting his streak in his pocket for 15 minutes, pulled it out, SHAZAM, touch screen didnt work for a few minutes.
Verified here on 3 streaks. 1 on 1.6 and 2 on 2.2 all have the same issue. 1.6 unlocks, but then nothing works until you mess with the facebook app, or another scrolling app, then everything works again.
did anyone happen to report this to dell? I think we might start to have a case here.
Another one with this problem. Noticed it yesterday. Screen facing in. Will try to face outwards next time in a warm building with carrying in pocket.
Same thing here though. Cant move the unlock but can slide the sound just a little bit. Funny ****

[Q] Avoid Display Shutdown on Phonecall? (Nice for Devs)

Hey guys,
is there any chance to stop the phone from switching off the screen on a phonecall?
My problem is that the phone does not respond afterwards and I cannot get the display to work (apart form connecting it to the power source). However, if I call my mailbox (or anything else where you need to touch-input during phonecalls) I am not able to use the display since it is turned off and there is no way to turn it back on.
So, is there a solution where there is a tiny program (or a setting-file, or kernel) that simply diables the screen-switch-off function? I would rather live with big ears typing the touchscreen whilst on the phone instead of rebooting after each call.
Thanks in advance,
jokeR.
There is a free app in the Android market called 'Call Light'. It's supposed to keep your screen on during calls, seems that it doesn't work for everybody though. But for me, it doesn't keep the screen on always during calls, but it does make the screen come on when i take the phone away from my ear. Before installing the app, i had the same problem as you, now i don't at all. If the app doesn't work for you, try changing kernels and still using the app. I am using Rapfringa's 1.7 OC kernel with the rom in my signature and very pleased with the results. Best of luck

i think its a problem with your rom.try new rom
to disable that option go to setting>call settings>tick off always use proximity
call light fixed my problem. thank you very much!
