[Q] Android system recovery problem - Hero, G2 Touch General

If anyone can help here, it would be great.
I flashed Villainrom12 yesterday and all was well. However I decided that I wanted to restore my back up today (done this may times in the past)
Held down the home button, went into recovery mode but I can only select 'reboot system now' and the trackball will not allow me select anything.
I am using RS-hero-v1.6.2a
Thank you for any guidance.
UPDATE: Finally got it to work, just kept retrying, not doing anything different? Oh well, least it worked.

I had the same problem on my eris. I just plugged it into my computer and it let me use the trackball after that. Hope this helps.

[Q] Stuck in Samsung Recovery Utils

Hey everyone!
I have never posted anything on a forum before, so please tell me if I do anything wrong. I have searched everywhere to find a solution for my problem, but I found nothing.
Today I accidentally got into the Samsung Recovery Utils of my galaxy 3. I have done nothing to the phone, all original, nothing flashed or rooted. But now I can't get out of this mode, if I restart the phone it automatically goes back into it.
Does anyone know how to get out of there?
Thank you a lot for helping me!
And I hope that this is the right forum to ask this question, as I said, I have never posted in a forum before.
Usually you should be able to reboot from recovery mode. Scroll to reboot Phone with the Volume Keys and klick with the Home Key... Your phone should restart.
Otherwise remove the battery, wait a few moments, plug the battery back in and try it again.
Good Luck
Thank you, I tried both several times, but I always end up in the recovery mode... I have no idea how i can get out of there! Do you maybe know something else I could do?
do the battery thing mentioned above. turn on your phone with vol up+ vol down+home +power (hold them for a while) and then try rebooting from the menu
here's the solution

Hey.. If ur on a Android 2.1 firmware and stuck on recovery every time...
just use the volume keys and chose the option "reboot" ... by the way.. its on default there.
after that just press the central key or called the "home key" two times consecutively..
ur good to go
I tried this several times, but I always end up in the Recovery Menu. When I pull out the battery, restart the phone and hold all those buttons including the power button my phone shows the Samsung Galaxy Logo and then reboots again, and then shows the Logo and reboots again. Only without holding the power button, and only the other ones I get into the Recovery Menu again. I really hope there is a way to get out of this mode! Thank you for all your help so far!
Hey I just saw the post in front of my other one
So yes I'm on Android 2.1 if that helps. And I tried this method several times, but when my phone restarts I always end up in the recovery mode by pressing nothing.
But thank you
try wipeing data and cache
I tried that out, but still rebooted into recovery mode all the time.
Because I couldn't find anything that solved my problem I just decided to flash my phone to a newer original firmware via odin. I just finished flashing and everything works fine as it did before, till now tho. I used the tutorial that is on this forum for flashing my I5800 and it worked perfectly fine, thank you for everyone's help anyway!
Now I hope that they will soon bring back froyo on kies, because it was deleted from the servers again today in Germany so I can't update. Hope that will happen soon!
I would recommend to forget about KIES... I am sorry but this software is a piece of crap!
Keep using the Odin Flasher. If you have some spare time install gsams nice lagfix and be happy about a very fast Froyo I5800
Edit:
Another funny thing about Kies: You can download the current version by using a US Proxy Server, which is also free of these annoying error messages at startup. But still there are much better alternatives, and the newest version (Kies 5 I think) is also incompatible to the I5800 Phone :-/
Yes, I really hate kies, that software is nothing good!
I think I will follow your advise to continue using odin flasher. Which froyo version is the best to install? I still have 2.1 on my phone. and then how do you install that lagfix? Sorry for all those questions, but I'm new to all this.
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
you are new to this? ok, then go to the development section and see the READ FIRST thread
I have already read through those threads, I just meant that I just started some days ago, I'm not a pro, I'm only someone who just started haha
So today I flashed to xxjpf froyo and I'm having no problems so far. everything is fine so my problem is solved and in addition I have froyo now

Major problem after flash

Hey Guys,
i have a major problem after flashing the MIUI-ROM, hopefully someone can help me.
I have flashed the MiuiXTV2, that worked so far. After that i decided to install some updates, like the Camupdate and the V3 and V4 Update. After that, my Miui starts, but i can't get in the the Settings-Menu, there is says its suddenly not installed. (It worked in the original Miui).
So i decided to flash it over again, but i cant. When i hit reboot into recovery, i only get a symbol with an exclamation mark and thats it. So i went to reinstall OpenRecovery but i cant because the system is set not to install software that doesn't come from the markt.
Also, it seems that i can't connect to the pc via usb. I don't know why. The phone doesn't charge and doesn't connect to the pc.
And thats it, i'm dead in the water, can someone help please??????
Greets,
**Jürgen**
does your sdcard have the openrecovery folder and openrecovery.zip?
Puh, solved it by myself.
If i reboot the device while holding Volume-Up, i also get into the recovery menu, and this way it works!!!
I have no idea why it won't work while RecoveryBoot from the GUI, but.. who knows.

Need urgent help please

Hi guys, recieved my phone back from T-Mobile all repaired and working again
I ran the Advanced Hack kit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259821&highlight=ace+hack+kit, followed the instructions, it all went well, said it completed. Phone hung on T-Mobile flash screen for 15 mins. Pulled battery, powered up, hanging for another 15 mins.
Powered up into Hboot, still S-On.
I can access Clockwork recovery OK also.
Phone still hanging, so selected restore factory settings. Hangs at flash screen.
I restored my Back-up of RCMix3D (probably a bad idea, but ran out of things to try). Rebooted, hangs at T-Mobile screen again.
I'm pulling my hair out now, what can I try??
I wanted to try the Hack tool again, but it won't connect without the phone booted. Also, I tried running an RUU, again it won't run without the phone booted.
I just copied the stock T-Mobile PD98IMG to the SD card, updated, went smoothly, now won't boot at all
bumping to the top
All sorted now guys, attn1 helped me out loads last night, this guy's a genius!!
Big thanks to him for all the help, donation going his way on pay day!
Edit, a mod may as well close this

Well,
if you talk to attn1 again, please tell him to contact me.. I'm stuck with my dhd aswell.
My problem is:
Few months ago i rooted my unbranded DHD, installed CyanogenMod 7.1, it worked perfectly fine for a couple of months, but a few days ago, my phone was on but did not respond anymore. I tried to reboot it, but it got stuck at the white screen with the HTC logo (sometimes it bootloops, other times it freezes)
I rebooted the phone with the volume down key pressed, so it would give me that menu,
scrolled down to "Recovery", i get the recovery menu from ClockworkMod, but then my volume key does not work ! i can not do whipe or anything else, the phone freezes.
I mounted the SD card in my PC, cleared it, put a rom in root of SD card and call the rom "PD98IMG.zip" and put the SD card back in my phone. I start the phone with the volume key down pressed, i get that
white screen with the menu and it then finds the .zip file.
It then reads the image, parses the image and then tries to load "NV.img" on which my phone freezes again.
I tried CyanogenMod and LeeDroid, and a stock rom. They all do the same thing, as written above.
When i connect my phone to my PC, my pc tries to install the driver, but gives me an error, saying the device is not known. I have installed both HTC Sync and the SDK. Tried it when i had only HTC Sync
installed, did not work either.
I also tried a RUU (.exe file) but this program tells me there is no device connected...
My phone is over a year old, so i have no warenty anymore, that's why i rooted it.

How to boot up android from clockwork recovery mode?

Hi, I have no knowledge on rooting/modding but I bought my nexus 4 already rooted. It has some cyanogenmod on it. So a few hours ago I saw there was an update and when i went to install it my phone went to ClockworkMod Recovery v6,0,2,3. I tried to reboot system now and a bunch of other options but I have no idea how to start it back up again. I think ive exhausted many of the options. If anyone can shed some light on me soon..I cant even turn off the screen.
Did you try "reboot system now"? If that doesn't work you can try "Advanced->Power off". If this also doesn't work you could try to push the power button five seconds or so.
But before you try any of these look for errors in the log

Help! Stuck in TWRP recovery

Hi Guys,
Long story short, I got the root to work at first, but I was having issues with PlayStore as I couldn't install most of the apps. Then I tried wipe data and restored TWRP backup which didn't fix the problem and lost SuperSU. I tried to reflash SuperSU and failed. Lastly, I did a factory reset via the OS's settings menu and my phone would never boot into System again. I tried using LGUP tool to flash the TOT tool, but it doesn't find my device. My phone is now officially softbricked. Any help is appreciated. I will donate if that is needed
Thanks

I haven't run into this on my V20, but a couple times on my V10 when i'd softbricked my device and couldn't seem to revive it (even with ToT or KDZ files on LGUP) i was able to recover with LG bridge. Basically you go to the third tab titled "software update" but instead of selecting software update, select the "update error recovery" link at the bottom right. It takes awhile but i think it downloads and restores files (or maybe partitions) that other recovery methods don't. Give it a try and let us know if it worked.

Yeah windows sees it as a Portable Device (Attached), I can transfer files to it.
This is very similar to what happened to me, I couldn't get into TWRP though.
I could not find a resolution then and still havent, but I did return my phone for a new one.

I guess I can only wait for a custom ROM now
I'm having the same issue. I've tried every step here. I've flashed multiple ROMS, just hoping one would boot and every one keeps booting right back into TWRP after showing the "your device software cannot be checked for corruption...".
PLEASE HELP! LOL...not sure what else to do. I'm, using the latest version of TWRP and I can get into bootloader.
Tried running the "EasyRecowvery.cmd" and it loads fine. I go into twrp and do the format data and then attempt to run any of the options and I get a "This Device doesn't look like a T-Mobile V20. Proceed anyway? I stop and can't get anything. But when it initially ran it said SUCCESS when locating adb .exe and found the device as well omni_h918.
No matter what it continues to go into TWRP. ANY ANY ANY additional help would be great. I want to return this device to T-Mobile before my 14 days is up. Please help out if you can.

I had this issue on my Verizon variant the other day and I tried everything I could think of. I flashed roms, restored backups, redid the dirtysanta method several times, flashed the boot images in fastboot, and nothing worked. What finally did work (can't make any promises but this worked for me): steps below
*restore your full stock backup (if you have one)
*after the backup is restored, in TWRP, go to mount, and mount the system. Check the box and press the mount USB storage button
*power off device
*use the button combo to boot into TWRP. It's volume down + power, as soon as you see the LG logo let go of power for a breif moment and press and hold it until a white screen comes up. Choose yes for the next two options. This will bring you back into TWRP.
*now go back to mount and check system, and press the mount button, and reboot system.
This got me out of TWRP and booting normally. I haven't had an issue since.

You, sir, are a lifesaver. I jumped through all the same hoops as you and was actually starting to panic a little, as the last time I got into a similar string of unsuccessful fixes, I managed to hard brick my Note 2. This worked like a charm on my Verizon variant (the backup part was seemingly unnecessary, as my backup was toast by this point). You definitely have my thanks!

Awesome. I was getting a little worried myself when I was stuck in TWRP because I was trying everything I could think of.
I didn't think the backup part was necessary but it's one of those things where you mention everything you did just in case.

I had some trouble following this at first but it indeed worked.
My v20 was stuck in TWRP (3.0.2-1) after forgetfully hitting OK on the System Update, it was running H91810q and was previously rooted.
I first backed up my phone in TWRP to my SD card and then copied that to my laptop.
In TWRP: Mount > System, I have 3 buttons on the bottom: 'Mount USB Storage', 'Select Storage', and 'Disable MTP'. If I choose 'Mount USB Storage' it goes to the next screen and the only button is Unmount. I cannot get it to shutdown without pulling the battery.
What is missing here is to press Unmount go back to the main TWRP menu, then Reboot > Power Off.
I held Power+VolumeDown, released Power while still holding volume down and I got the white Factory data reset screen. I choose Yes on the next two options to perform the factory reset.
Then it restarted and went back into TWRP. I choose Mount, selected System, pressed Mount USB Storage, then Unmount, Reboot, System.
It booted and took a while since I also flashed the H91810t rom to do an upgrade at the same time from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/rom-h91810q-stock-rom-twrp-flashable-zip-t3681312
Interesting all my apps, and settings were still on the phone.

Glad you got it working. As far as the issue with the instructions that could be down to a change in the newer versions of TWRP. I posted this 16 months ago and many new versions of TWRP have come out since. I remember trying to be extremely accurate in my instructions but it is possible I screwed up. Been too long ago and I can't remember now.
