Notification led - Epic 4G General

Has anyone found an app yet that will change the color of the notif led for sms, missed calls, email, etc? I have tried many apps with no results.

Have you seen the LED show any other color besides blue?

red and purple.

Sorry won't work... I'd suggest you try this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730692

I'm almost positive there is a full RGB notification light! D: I'm praying there is!
The NoLed app doesn't work at all on the Epic. Even with it set up correctly, the screen will turn ON for about 5 seconds, turn off THEN show the notification. Rather buggy and doesn't wake up from sleep sometimes.
Also, NoLed is a battery drainer. No thanks, the Epic has a notification light. We just need someone skilled who can develop a program like TrackballPro for the Nexus One!

I have seen that app before. I betcha that would REALLY drain our batteries. Im not lookin for an alternative i want led customization. the colors i have seen are red, blue and magenta.

Magenta or purple? What notifications give those? Seems like every notification is red, and 100% charge is blue. that's all i've seen.

No system notification gives the magenta color....
But randomly when the phone is fully charged (blue), i'll take it off the charger and it will flash magenta for about 2 seconds. I've seen it multiple times, but its possible that its just a combination of the blue/red leds.

I would hate it if the led blinked red for everything besides being fully charged. I really hope samsung didnt stick with a 2 color led

Just red and blue guys. Confirmed by opening the test panel and trying to turn on green under led.
Btw - get to test panel in dialer by hitting #*0#*...lota cool stuff there

Not currently. I started a thread about having the backlight turn on when a message is received. I think this should be the same.
another thing google needs to fix ASAP!

I just noticed my battery like is down to 12% the notification light, isn't blinking at all.
Even with Bluetooth or wifi on my light does not blink blue. Weird.
I wonder if this is included in Androids "memory saving" feature. *Since the Android will self close apps in the background when it needs more memory. I don't know.
green blink
I just sent a txt to myself. light blinks green... cool!

The light doesnt blink as others cell phones do. The only time the light blink is when there is something in the notification bar. Test it out...
blue led?
I have yet to see the blue light just green orage and red...
anybody seen a blue led on a g1?
I think there's only one LED on the G1, and it's a red/green one (that looks yellow when both sides are energized.)

You can get it blue wen you hold the track ball down and powering up the phone.

I think it is four sided. Red, Orange, Green, and Blue
I have seen green and red LEDs mix before... and this doesn't look like that.

Notification LED Multicolor (App to toggle blue+green+amber led included)

I've written an app that can enable and disable the blue led with a toggle. I would like to know for who this works. Please test it and tell me .

Contrary to popular believe, there are more colors than red, green and orange. My Desire's LED flashed blue and purple. Now I searched the forums and could not find any topic that confirmed this, nor on google, so just to let you guys know .
Next point on the list is finding an application that can tweak them

Gheh, it only showed for like a few seconds, then the phone restarted, I will try to replicate the bug, but I expect I will be unsuccessful .
Interesting. I got my Desire yesterday and installed the Touchdown app for corporate connectivity. In TD's settings you can customise the LED behaviour to select different colours (beyond red, green and amber) for different events. Tried it and it just flashed green, but why have these settings if there's not a way to do this...interesting
I have been able to replicate the bug. This is how I do it:
1. Turn on Bluetooth
2. Receive a text message while charging
3. Disconnect from charger
4. Turn off screen
5. Reconnect to charger
6. My led will glow purply
7. Disconnect the phone from the charger
8. Led starts flashing blue, orange and purple
9. Phone reboots
Taking pictures as we speak

PS. images are in the first post
EDIT: Also, I should add, I have been unable to duplicate the color for a second time. No idea why it happens. Just happy I was able to get these pictures
i did what you said. no special colors but strange things happens. no reboot
Re: Notification LED Multicolor (Picture of purple included)
Looks like the desire does some how support multi colours :S there must be a way to enable this fully within the codes. I will be donateing if the devs can get this to fully work

I have tried and tried and I have been unable to replicate this bug from this point on. I'm so happy I was able to take the pictures. I think it's because of a semi-faulty flash that I have this bug. Even though the randomality of it suggests it might be more of a hardware bug. We do however now know it has a blue led too. So cyan and white should be possible as well. I just wonder, why go through the trouble of a adding a full multicolor led, if you are only going to use 3 colors of the possible 7.
there might be something as simple as a voltage problem.
most leds will change color when you increase voltage and/or overload them.
the first few times you won't see any damage, but eventually the changing color might be permanent and then it's just a matter of time before the led just brakes.
so there is a change that it's not multi color, but the phone just overloads the led while crashing.
When I looked down the headphone port I could clearly see the red and blue led burning. I do really think there is a blue led in there.

Haa nice one mate
Well we know there is a Red and Green led for definite so having a Blue as well means we have multi colour. Now we just need a way to use it
There's no way that type of colour came from overloading the phone as when an LED overloads it just blows, it doesn't change colour to that extent.

Heh, I'm sorry guys, but we already know there's a BLUE led inside.
This LED works a bit differently from the other LEDs, however.
Theres no need to do advanced tricks to show the blue LED, you
can easily enable it:
echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/leds-microp/blue/brightness
From within a terminal emulator.
the blue LED is, however, missing the 'blink' property, as the Green and Amber LEDs do.
And yes, it is also possible to turn other LEDs on at the same time, so you can make purple by enabling the BLUE and Amber LEDs.

Then can we not just simply integrate that command into our applications for use of the blue LED?

Notification LED

Just wondering if the Nexus S has a notification LED like every other phone, except the Galaxy S of course. Can't find any info of that on the latest previews/reviews.
Early reviews says it does not have an LED.
Use the NoLED app on the market instead http://www.appbrain.com/app/noled/com.led.notify
Hmmm thanks for that! Last time I read about NoLed it was an alfa and ofcourse very limited, but I see it has progressed a lot. I've been using BLN on my Captivate for a while and kind of like it but will try NoLed right now.
yup, no notification LED, luckily noLED has turned into an amazing app. i'm actually using it on my Nexus one. people always find it pretty awesome when they see the trackball and the screen have the notification.

noLED creates a notification icon (dot or actual icon) on your phones screen when you get a notification.
on OLED screens, anytime a pixel is black, it's not using any power, so with phones that don't have LED's, using the screen works since your only lighting up the part of the screen with the notification.
To save even more power you can make it a simple pixel in one corner, or use an icon that moves around the screen (what i use)
And it looks damn awesome too.

Hmmm.....giving it a try, as we speak. Very hard to imagine life without a dedicated notification light. Seems totally insane!!!
You're telling me!
Coming from a Blackberry, I would DIE without a notification LED.
Anyone have issues with the battery life when running the noLED app?
Backlit dedicated buttons...
Just tested NoLed by sending a chrome to phone link. My only real concern is that I noticed the dedicated buttons at the bottom of the N1 seem to remain lit, in addition to the tiny colored pixel notification. Do they stay lit indefinitely??? I did not notice an option to disable this, but I didn't watch it for more than a minute or so to see if they would turn off. It pretty much looked like they were gonna stay on. Pretty sure that would be detrimental to battery life. Did I miss something?
Well, on my Captivate I disabled BLN(custom notification system for Galaxy S that uses buttons backlight) and only have noLed for notifications. It also has the option to use the proximity sensor to turn the screen on/off so it isn't displaying anything while the phone is upside down or in your pocket. Very nice app.

this is awesome.
It doesn't seem to work with Launcher Pro on my Vibrant. =T
On my Nexus One, I use LEDs Hack: http://www.appbrain.com/app/leds-hack-(root-only)/net.geekherd.softbuttonshack
To turn off the soft button lighting.
Maybe with a combination of this and noLED, we'd have a good combo.
i dont get it, i seriously cannot live without a led notification light on my phone, if google had time to include a NFC tag reader why did they not include a led notification light? even the nexus one has one!

Atrix 4G indicator light

The green LED in the top right, when and when isn't it supposed to light up. When i first got it, it was lit always, now it only lights when i get a text
Mine lights up when I get texts, emails, missed calls, Bluetooth connection, and when fully charged. It only stays lit green continuously when it is fully charged.
Steady Green = Phone is connected to charger and battery charge is 85% - 100%
Blinking Green = Notification (Email, SMS, Missed Call, .. etc)
If you are doubtful or there's anything wrong, you probably need to remove any installed LED color apps (ex. Light flow, LED me know, .. )

Or you can use LightFlow and screw with all of the different colors that LED has to offer.
I have found Blue, Red, Purple, Green, Orange, and Multi-Color. You can make almost any application/event do any color you want, at least that's how it is with the Pro version.

I was never able to actually get the blink "rate" to change. The colors all worked but still had the slow blink rate.

Same thing, led color changes but still blinks slow. Like the new colors though.

Yeah, this thing doesn't have the same control over the flashing LED that a BlackBerry has. Blink rate seems slow and random. Lightflow is good, but it is no BeBuzz. I find frequently that the LED is flashing for seemingly no reason. There are no alerts, but yet the LED is flashing. I really hate the LED on the ATRIX.

On Light Flow this happened to me when I saw the notification (at least for the Google Talk app) in the notification bar but didn't actually open it up in the Talk app. Light Flow probably still thinks I haven't seen it, because I don't think it can tell if I've seen and cleared the notification in the status bar.
just set your notifications to end blinking at screen-on rather than app.
Never had the problem of it blinking for no reason, i now have the full version and it blinks more often than before and i have enough control of the LED for how i use it tbh
Agreed with above and I think it's draining my batt. Didn't know we had this colors available though!
When I was porting my tilt there was a lib that controlled the blink. I don't remember what level the lib is. It's certainly possible that it is kernal level and we can't touch it yet

I thought it was flashing for no reason once. Turned out this program flashes the led when a mail arrives in the non priority inbox as well (native gmail only flashes for priority inbox for me). It triggers the led then, but naturally no notification. Turned gmail notifications off as a result, still have to see whether it will blink for priority inbox (show week).
