[Q] duplicate text messaging issue. please help. tia. - Droid X General

every time i get a text message, i get the message twice in each of 2 apps, messaging and text messaging, both of which seem to be native apps on the droid x. ideally i would like to remove one or the other of them, if that is difficult/impossible, i would be happy just to figure out how to get just one of them to work instead of both. any help would really be appreciated, i'll say thanks in advance knowing how helpful everyone on this forum usually is.

rename conversation.apk to a .bak to clear this issue up

Any idea how to do this? Astro says insufficent permissions when I try to rename this file. 2.3.15 rooted and deodexed.

you need rootexplorer so you can mount /system as r/w

bloatware

how do i remove blockbuster? etc? do i have to root?
sorry for asking dumb question. i am new to android and a new verzion customer
IF you've rooted your phone, then the easiest way is to buy Root Explorer (trust me it's worth the couple bucks) and navigate to /system/app and find blockbuster.apk or whatever it's called. Click mount r/w and longpress, then delete it. Or rename it to .bak instead of .apk
There is another way to do it using ADB, but if you're new to Android it's probably a bit more complicated than buying the app. If you wanna know how to do it on adb just let me know.
edit: Also, welcome to the Android side.
lol thanks....
i think i already rooted. im using DroidXRoot to rooted the driod x. i just install root explorer and its not working.
blockbuster.apk cannot be renamed because the file system is read-only.
Do you guys know where the files for the bloatware 3G Hotspot are? I would prefer to use wifi tether vs the included app.

Hide it then. You don't HAVE to use it.
Also when you get the read only message, as was previously stated, you have to mount it as r/w rather than read only.

3g hotspot is mynet.apk

Just watch out what you delete...I wasn't able to update to froyo because it was missing system apps. I ended up having to reinstall the system apps and resetting all of the permissions.
Now I just use LauncherPro to hide stuff. If you are dead set on removing them though, I am sure most of us would recommend only renaming the apk files instead of deleting. While you can definitely reinstall them, it tends to be a pain. Also, I heard that removing some apps would cause a boot loop. Haven't experienced it myself, but something to watch out for I guess.
Use launcher pro to hide as well

I accidentally deleted the Conversations.apk... for future reference how do you reinstall system apps and reset permissions?
Thanks in advance,
Brandon
Instead of renaming or deleting apps/bloatware, just use "Titanium Backup" donate version and you can freeze apps/bloatware so they don't load up. This way if you want to update the phone later, you don't have to worry about things you deleted that need to be on the phone for the update to work.

This is the tutorial that I used below from android forums

system notifications

I see my system notifications are stored in /system/media/notifications but even with root Im not able to drop a new file withing this directory. I would like to do this because Handcent doesnt give me the option to select a different directory.
Any suggestions on either dropping a new sound file in the /system/media dir or using a custom sound file for Handcent?
Thanks
You should be able to put something in /sdcard/media/notifications
You have to mount system with root explorer, ADB, etc. It's read only by default.

I've tried a root file manager without success. Is it possible to change the directory permissions using ADB?

If you use root explorer, there is a little button in the upper right that toggles read write permissions.
Sweet
For the next person, I can confirm this does work, you just need to make sure the permissions are correctly set on each file and the phone (or SMS) app needs to be restarted to take effect.
Thanks everyone.
P.S. I hope you guys get a commission!

[Q] rooted fascinate cant recieve MMS messages after .apk removal. Help!

Hi guys, first post.
I have rooted my fascinate and used root explorer to move .apk and .odex to my SDcard. Now after moving some files i cannot recieve picture messages the messages just say "downloading" and do not change from this screen.
Here is a list of apk/odex i have moved:
blockbuster_stub_v0_2 ...apk
buddiesnow.apk
buddiesnow.odex
carhome.apk
carhome.odex
cityID_1.0.27...apk
deskhome.apk
deskhome.odex
Dlna.apk
Dlna.odex
i500_411search...apk
i500_bingsearch...apk
i500_myverizon...apk
i500_vcasttones...apk
infoalarm.apk
infoalarm.odex
myfiles.apk
myfiles.odex
NFSSinstallerSamsung...apk
redding-7648-signed...apk
TetrisInstallerSamsung...apk
vcastmusic.apk
vcastvideo.apk
vnav_4.7.0.258...apk
vnav_6.1.0.140...apk
If anyone knows which of these apk/odex are the problem it would be greatly appreciated, so I don't need to move them back 1 by one to figure out the issue.
Thanks!
Put myfiles back in there. Required for all sorts of fun things.... there is a stickie thread that lists safe apps to remove. Check it out, I'm sure there is more info to be had there.

I have myfiles removed and my phone is and mms is working fine.
i would put it back and just run Jt's superclean rom. Its just a rom without all the bloat you deleted plus a little more. But my guess would be the buddiesnow.apk as to the culprit.
it does seem the buddiesnow is the culprit... duno why but putting that back into system/apps fixed my issues and I can now recieve picture messages.
thanks guys!

Can Liberty 1.5 run Backup Assistant?

Okay, I know some people think it's redundant to Have backups of my contacts in both Google AND Verizon Backup Assistant, but I'm OCD and like having backups of everything. Also, at some point in time in the future I may not have an Android phone (God forbid) and I would need Verizon Backup Assistant to port all my contacts over to my new phone. Anyway, I'm running Liberty 1.5 which doesn't have BA. I have a folder on my SD card where I've saved all the stock Droid X apps, so I went there and copied both the apk and odex files to system/app and I changed the permissions to rw-r-r. Then I rebooted hoping that it would work, but it didn't. I did a bit of Google searching and found out that BA needs additional Blur components to run. Obviously I have those too, but I don't know which Blur components I need to install to make BA run. Does anyone know the Blur files I need to install in order for Liberty 1.5 to run Backup Assistant? Thanks in advance!
i believe its buacontactadapter.apk
I tried copying the apk and odex for that just now in addition to the backup assistant apk and odex (and I still changed the permissions to rw-r-r). It still didn't work. Do you think there are more files I need to copy? Or is blur stuff just NOT compatible with Liberty 1.5?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
It is designed to be blurless. However, if you keep installing files you may get it to work. Also, when you are in /system/app mount it as rw and install the app. You may have to do that as well
So you're saying I need to just keep randomly installing blur files and hope for the best? I'd rather not. I'm hoping someone knows exactly what files to install. Anyone?

[Q] How do I copy a notification audio file to the internal storage (Access Denied)

Running rooted GB on my DroidX and want to know how to put a notification sound file (facebook_pop.m4a) in the notifications folder in the phone memory (internal storage), so that when my SD card gets dismounted for use on a PC, the notification sound "facebook pop" still works. Right now every time I connect for USB Mass Storage it defaults to the annoying short ring notification sound file, since it can no longer find the Facebook pop file.
Every time I try to copy the facebook pop m4a file into the internal storage, it says Access Denied. I have tried using AndExplorer and the built in "Files" app.
Thanks in advance!
p.s. - I also need to know how to change the notification tone for just my TXT messages to something different, but leave every other notification to still use the 'facebook pop' tone
You probably need to change the directory to read and write (R/W) as opposed to read only.
I know Root Explorer has the option. Unsure of those two apps.

Yes he has to push the sound to
/system/media/audio/notifications
To change txt sound you may have to change the notification sound via settings->sound, or thru the actual sms app on your droid.
If the proplem is read/write you can use terminal emulator to put the files where you need them. I'd only recommend this if you are familiar with terminal.
If you know where the files need to go, I can help with the commands.
mount -o remount,rw /system
The above command will make your system folder writable. If you need more help, let me know.

IMO, root explorer is by far the quickest/easiest way to change permissions.
