Hi All,
I'm not sure if this problem is in every build but i found it in the FroyoStone Series [Build 07.08.2010].
Problem:
Android can't see some WIFI networks.
Solution:
Android seems only to detect wireless networks that are configured between "Wireless Channels" 1 to 11. WIFI networks configured above channel 11 won't be detected by Android.
what about ad-hoc wireless connection ? how could i connect ?
And this is only HD2 bug or all Android devices?
This issue only occurs on newer builds. My wlan router uses channel 13. I'm able to connect with all old builds from darkstone, etc. But Since mattc 1.4 and FroyoStone I'm not able to connect anymore, because Android is not able to find my network.
By the way: This issue is not solved, because not all of us are able to change the wlan channel of our routers! I'm not sure if this is right, but I read that channel 13 and 14 are not allowed in the USA. Is it possible that our devs used european Androids builds in the previous buidls and now uses an USA Version (new Desire Build)?
is it because of mac address?
is it because of mac address? MAc address is different from win mo in Android

No, as I told, it works fine with all older Android buils. Only with new one (since 1-2 weeks) it is not working anymore.

Again true, channel 12 to 14 are not used in the US, Europe goes up to 13, 14 is only used in Japan if i remember properly.
So there are 2 options:
Reuse European Desire Builds or Change you wifi channel if you can. A better option would be reusing the European Desire Builds.
With latest kernel I found new problme with Wifi. It works but after some time stop. I must turn it off and on again.
Hi,
On my Glofiish x650 I've the same Problem with channel 13. Therefore I found
vvvvvv.aspecto-software.com/punbb/viewtopic.php?pid=3346#p3346
For these and other threads about channel 13 the Problem shut are at all devices with built in wifi chip from Marvel.
@ ATomCZ
If you really has no problem with channel 13 maybe you could place here a copy of GSPI8686.dll from your HTC.
(Even it's placed in ROM it is not so easy to copy, may be you or someone next to you now how to do)
@pi_mento
It seems you have an x650 too. Does your x650 connect to channel 13?
Unbelievable, but if it does it would be great to get a copy of your GSPI8686.dll.
What is your ROM Version?
(I'm from Europe and for some reason I have to use channel 13)
Regards

How do I change Channel ?
Don't know if this works for you people but it works for me.
I'm using darkstone HD2Froyo V2.1.
If you go to Settings > Wireless & Network settings > Wi-Fi Settings then press the Menu button (Windows button on the HD2) and choose Advanced then you choose Regulatory domain which lets you choose the number of channels to use, set that to what you need and it should show your network.
I have another problem! I'm using Darkstone Froyobuild with the latest 13. September zImage... since i installed this zImage it always says connecting and 2 seconds later is says scan and then connecting again! Goes like this all the time so WiFi is working but i can't connect to the network...
I already changed the channel to 8 but it's still not working and the network has WPA2!! Any solutions??

I have the exact same issue using WEP.
I think my problem with it not connecting its the mac filter I use and the HD2 having a mac address of 001122334455....
The MAC Filter issuse is noch solution for me! I have the filter switched off...
Is there no solution for this problem?
Hello everybody.
After testing several builds and radio versions on my HD2 (since the very beginning of Android on the HD2), I decided to explain my problem here.
1) Running Windows Mobile, I can connect to any wifi network (mine, and the neighbour's one)
2) Running Android, the wifi works, BUT it doesn't detect my network !! (of course I'm just next of the AP).
In fact it detects the neighbour's one, but not mine, and that on any build with any radio version !!
So, does anybody got the same problem? Do you think it's my network which has a problem (I've got a Zyxel router), or do you think it's a problem in the kernel, which isn't made for certain types of wifi networks ?????
Please help me

You are the best. It made the trick. I've set my AP channel to 5 instead of 13 (too high I think) and it's good.
So if a mod can close my thread now =)
it seems that there are problems withs 2-3 latest channels
Videos for the htc desire show it with wifi N and the spec sheets show wifi N. Does anybody know if any G2 tear downs show that it does infact have the hardware to run N? Are the devs working on enabling this?

Yes it does. I have wifi n at home connects just fine.

I have tried wifi n at two differ locations.. my gf doesn't pick it either and neither does my friend's g2. What we doing wrong? Our laptops pick up the band easily.

Wifi N can run on either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. The G2 only supports 2.4 GHz, but many people run their N routers on 5 GHz to avoid the congestion on 2.4GHz.
You need to go to Menu-Settings-Wireless & Networks -Than Wi-Fi Settings to connect to nearby networks. I noticed when I turned on the wi-fi at first it did not connect right away. You need to view the wireless networks in order to connect. Once you connect it automatically saves. So each time you turn on your wi-fi it connects automatically.

It took me forever to figure this out with my N1. I went through all of the trouble of reconfiguring my router to use N on 2.4GHz, and it didn't make much of a difference anyway. Went back to 2.4GHz for b/g and 5GHz for N (my router has 2 radios).
I actually get a faster/better connection over HSPA+ (up and down) than I get through my router and cable modem.
Most dual band routers running both b/g and n will only allow n to run on the 5ghz band. You can only switch frequencies if your router is running the n band alone.
I am using Android Revolution HD 2.0.11 and when I installed it, I lost my wifi connection (my HD found many other wireless networks on my building, but not mine).
Then I manually set my router to channel 11 and it started working again. Previously, I was using the stock ROM and my router was set to channel 13 and it worked just fine.
I guess this may have to do with the higher channels and the wifi driver.
I just wanted to let the developers know about this, but am not allowed to post in the development forum yet. Maybe this is a known fact, but I couldn't find any information on this.
By the way, in case anyone is wondering, I need to manually set my router to one of the highest channels in order to get a stable wireless connection at home.
Also, my wife's Legend with rooted stock ROM has been working the whole time on channels 13 and 11.
hey i found the solution of this messy wifi problem in android revolution hd 7.0.0. i had the problem,my phone finds all other networks except hotspot created by me and some random wifi routers.. what i found wrong was that htc desire hd custom rom revolution hd 7.0.0 does not picks up modem with 300mbps bandwidth capacity. u need to make some settings, reconfigure your router and set ur router bandwidth below 150mbps. this worked for me. solution may sound ideotic to u but if it works then let it be.. all the best. this settings only affects ur sharing between devices..
