[Q] Other Discounts? - Epic 4G General

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have a 'story' of how they got their Epic (or EVO) discounted more than the basic mail-in rebate?
I have been a Sprint customer for years and have never really done any haggling to get freebies or discounts. I am not in contract with Sprint and have not been for years. I called and asked about other incentives that Sprint could offer to get me back into contract with them. I felt that giving me (a 10 year loyal customer) the same discounts as a new customer was not really showing me any appreciation as a customer. They offered me an additional $70 contract renewal credit and to purchase back my old phone ($35 for a Touch Pro - not going to do that, though, it is worth more on eBay). While the additional $105 discount is great, I wonder if anyone else has had any other discounts added.
My brother swears to me that he was able to get Sprint to give him 2 EVOs for $75. I asked him how he did it and he just told them that he was going to go to another carrier. I tried that and they sent me right to the account cancellation department!

GREAT DEAL
Crrrrrrrrrrraaaaaapppp!!! If only I had seen this literally a couple hours ago!!!
I just picked one up at the local shop... So far, it's quite a nice upgrade from my Titan... Really anxious to try out a few new roms, but need a default to get back to...
Hmm.... wonder if I can take this one back... or if it's a simple matter of giving a call to 'ol AT&T...
Thanks for the headsup though... I'm sure others that were gonna take the plunge will appreciate it too!
AT&T retail shops have a $35 restock fee. Still worth it with there $199 - $49 mail in price.
If i already have an account, premier with a 25% discount will i qualify or will it screw anything up? I am available for upgrade though

You should get that if you log in through the premier site.
I called and I got mine for 25% off, and I wasn't even close to being out of contract.
Right now I am on one of AT&T's pre-paid plans. Does anyone know if I would be able to move my number over to the new contract?
I think upgrades cost a little more at lets-talk. I seen this a while ago and while it's free for new customers, it's more for an upgrade. Still cheaper though... but how much it is worth to go through the hassles to save a few bucks?
If you upgraded for $150 a MIR, thats not bad.
the rest of the story....
As it turns out, 29 days into using the phone, I called to cancel. Told 'em they charged me too much. The pot had sweetened... now, not only is the phone free, but the $45.00 rebate is applied... soooo... yup. they're actually paying people to use the Pure/Warbird/Topaz..
When I brought this to the attention of the customer service rep I got on the phone, showed them the website, wouldn't ya know, Good 'ol AT&T applied a credit for the 200.00 that I payed for the phone, and allowed me to submit the rebate form...
Pretty good customer service if you ask me...
Long story short, it's worth it if you paid anything more than zero to switch over and go with the pure.
--- Good Luck if you decide to get one. So far I've still been VERY pleased. Not only with the performance of the equipment, but the quality of the roms being cooked up around here.
Two cents worth... good luck.
hahaha thats funny i did pretty much same thing to them....
went to the local att store and i told em the whole lets talk deal so they gave me the phone for free nice one btw i was already more then 2 years with at&t ...
the phone from lets talk its only for a new customers , upgrade is not valid so if u are already an att customer u wont be able to get lets talk deal but hey ppl go to the store and they will do everything to keep u in they are crew
I bought my Pure from LetsTalk on Wednesday for $0. It was an upgrade not a new contract. I do have a family plan and it's only free when you upgrade the main line on a family plan.
I decided since I got the phone free that I'd pay $14.95 for overnight shipping. I had the phone before lunch on Thursday (yesterday). I honestly couldn't be happier with the phone and the fast service from LetsTalk.
Phone looks nice, but I don't want to be forced to the $30 data plan that is required now with this phone, as opposed to the $15 plans of old!
I got my Pure free from radio shack for renewing my contract for 2 years... ATT store online only had refurbs and local ATT would only do it for 99.00
For anyone looking for a Pure... check the radio shack. I also got a 30$ giftcard included... and my plan was only the family talk 550.
Woot!

Best price & plan discounts for evo?

Eventhough I'm not currently in a 4G market, the EVO has me excited however I'd like to get the best deal possible particularly as I'd be using it perhaps 80+% on Wi-Fi off their network.
1) Full retail price: $450 or $600 as I'm not sure I want to sign a 2 yr contract? If I do sign a 2yr contract is the ETF a monthly prorated $200 & would that have any effect on my credit rating-report?
2) Discounts: I've heard suggestions of setting up a simple $10 savings account at a Credit Union to get a 10% Sprint discount, any comments/other discount ideas to minimize that monthly fee?
3) Rooting: Just to clarify does rooting void the warranty & if so do you have any qualms doing it day1?
-Thanks & would be cool to develop for Android/EVO..
Not sure if this info is right but I got it from sprint rep. I asked if I bought the phone straight out what deal would I get. She said its the same plan either way and I would have to have a 2 yr contract even if i didn't buy the phone from them. So no discount and still have to have 2 yr contract. Can anyone confirm this info?
Plans: In order to have an Evo you MUST have an Everything Data Plan. You MUST pay $10 dollars additional to add Premium Data to your plan. You MAY pay $29.99 for the Wi-Fi Hotspot feature.
Discounts: Sprint offers discounts to pretty much every company out there. Heck, some companies only require you know someone who works there to get the discount!
If you are out of contract, you can often call Customer Service and get an additional discount just for resigning, and then still upgrade (and thus resign) a few days later. But it has to be done in that order!
However, these discounts do NOT apply to the $10 Premium Data, $29.99 Wi-Fi Hotspot, or $7 TEP. Only to the actual plan!
Contract: If you are a NEW customer, you MUST agree to a 2 year contract, even if you don't take the discount. So take the discount.
If you are an existing customer and want the discounted price ($199 after $100 MIR) you MUST sign a 2 year contract AND be eligible for upgrade.
If you are an existing customer and got an Evo from a friend or I/O Attendee, you do NOT have to sign a contract. You can change the plan, add the services, add TEP, and add the Hotspot without changing your contract. You'll even be eligible to upgrade on your regular date!
Where did you get the $600 price? I thought the phone was $450 without a discount and $199 with a rebate/discount for an upgrade/new contract.
The reason I ask is I am only 8 months into my contract, so am I going to have to pay $450 or $600?
Also, a friend said he had a Bowing Credit Union account, got him a 20% discount.
$450 is the official price from a Sprint corporate store, $600 is the BestBuy full retail price.

Ok so since I'm new to Sprint it sounds like I would have to sign a 2 yr contract for access to their network & should take their discounted price-Is it a monthly prorated $200 ETF (& would that have any effect on my credit rating-report)?
I was going to link to the 10% Credit Union Sprint Discount but can't as a new user here yet, any other specific significant accessible discounts to consider (wow Sirchuk 20% Bowing Credit Union account, I'll have to look into that-thanks)?
Is the radio shack pre-order by 5/31 the best deal out there? $7 TEP worth it? Are you gonna root it? -Appreciate the replies
If you pay the $200 ETF then it won't go against your credit, but if you don't pay it (just like any other bill) they could take you to collections and then it will hurt your credit. Keep in mind in order to get the rebate you will still need to keep the phone on sprint for X period of time or they'll deny the rebate.
Also, I don't believe the amount is prorated monthly at all. You are agreeing to 2 years and thus get a discount on the phone.
Well, I'm new to xda and as such can't post links.. So google search on,
mcguireslaw
If you will be new to Sprint, go here, for probably the best available discount, if you don't work for a medium or big comapny. Read the link on the right of page (Special Sprint Offer), and click through it.
If you are currently on Sprint (or not), and work for a mid to large company, google seach on,
evpdiscount
and plug your company name in. These are without a doubt the best available discounts, and can simply be added to existing service.

The ETF is $200 until month 5, then goes down by $10 every month until only $50 remains. And no, if you pay the ETF and final bill (make sure you pay it ALL!) by the bill due date (like any bill) it doesn't affect your credit.

Define "deal". Sam's Club has the cheapest price ($160) last I checked, Radio Shack and Bestbuy both will do it out the door with no MIR and have cheaper accessories. But those same accessories void your mfg. warranty the second you plug them into your phone. Plus you're going to have to call customer service to get any discounts added to your plan.
Corporate stores will require the MIR (Extra hundred bucks up front), but will setup your discount johnny on the spot (should you qualify and I'll bet dollars to dimes you do!) and walk you through the entire setup up the phone (They call it "Ready Now")

Absolutely. If something in the phone fails or needs to be cleaned take it to a local Sprint Service center. They either repair or replace at no charge, and replacements are usually in your hands within 3-5 days (unlimited). If you bust the screen out, get water in it, loose it or get it stolen call Asurion and for $100 they send you another (up to 3 a year).

So through that link the Everything Plus™ Data - 500 Anytime Minutes is $59.99+the$10 EVO charge, so we're talking ~$70+taxes/mo as the best deal?
I would have to set that up through Sprint & why doesn't Sprint just match reseller deals while annoying new customers with a mail-in rebate?

I thought you couldn't use a SERO plan with the EVO? (or any recent smarphone short of the TP2) Or is EPRP different from SERO and I'm just being thrown off by the fact that it says /sero on the URL in your post?
Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out... For anyone not familiar, SERO is an old/outdated set of discount plans Sprint used to offer (based on employee referral), EPRP is the current/modern iteration of that and apparently you can use the EVO on such a plan (and you can upgrade a SERO plan to EPRP too), but it's possible you may not be able to actually buy the EVO w/an EPRP plan until July (judging by what Sprint employees have stated elsewhere), due to the fact that you need to get the phone directly thru Sprint with the plan in order to be able to get on the EPRP and they're locking out the EVO from the EPRPs 'till then (like they did w/the Pre), so that's a bit of a letdown.
Am I right? Kind of a downer, I would've loved to save an extra $10 a month but I don't think I can wait 'till July! Thanks for the info anyway.
Edit: Also, getting on the EPRP and knocking $10 off the bill for a single line plan would disqualify you for Sprint Premier status anyway (since your base bill has to be $69.99+/month), so if anyone wants to be able to upgrade/renew every year you're better off w/the regular plans, as long as you don't mind the higher bill (worth it imo). That is unless you're getting an EPRP family plan of $99 or more, then you still qualify, such as the $110 EPRP 1600 min plan... Which is a big discount over the standard $130 for 1500.
I've got a question, say I sign a contract for a single line $69.99 plan this month, could I later upgrade that to an EPRP family/share plan?
Yeah what he said..just trying to plan this out so I have this phone next weekend or maybe I should calm down & wait until...mid June ?
I'm currently on AT&T and I'm not even waiting 'till the 7th (Monday after the EVO launches), even tho supposedly they've got some big (non-Apple) announcements then. Just sick and tired of waiting for them to release a solid Android phone, the EVO is calling my name! 'Specially after I discovered I can get a 15% discount on my monthly bill thru StudentRate and still qualify for Premier status. That basically makes EPRP irrelevant for me since it's the same amount of discount but w/no caveats; and StudentRate's also got a sweet offer for those ordering the EVO online on the 4th, after 2 different credits you basically end up paying $125 for it w/no activation fees and free overnight shipping, tough to beat. I don't mind waiting 'till Monday if it means saving $110!

1. not sure about sprint premier with the 59.99 plan. previously, SERO plans got special treatment even though they didn't qualify for it by their cost structure (phone upgrade discounts, etc), it might be the same with EPRP, you'd have to call and ask
2. very difficult to more from a regular plan into an EPRP. If you want it, sign up with it
3. sprint distinguishes employees from regular users on a referral plan. my rep says I can get it friday. i'll post back friday.

The only way using a charger voids your warranty is if you tell them you used a non-OEM charger when making your claim And why would you do that? Not to mention that Radioshack, at least, can set up discounts right in the store. Radioshack will also walk you through using the device (if you've never owned a smartphone before and need it). We call it "customer service."

According to a lot of different posts on sprintusers.com, EPRP plans under the cost limit for Premier don't qualify for it, period. Corporate discounts and other stuff don't preclude you from Premier status but EPRP does (it's not treated as a discount but a separate set of plans, which it is pretty much since some of the minute allotments vary).
Anyway, I'm going ahead w/the 15% StudentRate discount plans, I can get the EVO thru them for $125 anyway... Seems a little more honest than getting in on the 25% Time Warner deal heh (since I AM a student). I'm just wondering if you can upgrade your plan at any time (say, to a Share Plan) when using these discounts.

Getting The Best Deals From T-mobile:

So i just Upgrade 2 of my lines to get the Vibrant. However 1 line still had 4 months of remaining service and the 2nd line had about 8 months of remaining Service.
I'm sure most people are paying $30 Data Plan. But i was offered to pay $24.99 and given full discounts.
I Called T-Mobile and transferred over to the Loyalty Department. I have Been with them since 2006.
The Loyalty Department offered me the phone for the line with 8 months remaining for $249.99 with $50 in mail Rebate. however he instead credited my account with
$50 giving me less work so i don't have to fill any rebate forms. So in Reality I'm Paying $200 For the Vibrant + $7 for 3-Day Select Shipping= $207
The Second Line, they offered me the Phone for $230 + tax and Everything Else. But With the $24.99 Data Plan opposed to buying it online which costed me $202 with $30 data plan. in the long Run. the $230 was worth it..
I got the installment Plan to pay in 4 months, so im paying the first month $70 and the remaining $40....
Whats the point..... Well For better Deals, get in touch with the Loyalty Department. If your contract is up, then you can say you want to end the contract and that way youll get even better deals.... Regular T-mobile Reps were giving me the phone for $287 +... i think i got a good Deal? Doncha Think?
I didn't do any of that. I simply asked about getting new phones for me and my wife. $25 a month per phone starting in September. Tmobile always makes me good offers whether I ask for it or not.
buy one get one free
My contract had 5 month left on it and I simply went to the TMobile store on the launch date (7/15) and told them i would like to upgrade my line at $199 ($249 - $50 rebate) and also add my son to my account. The sales person told me they can't offer me the upgrade price. I asked her to call TMobile customer service and get an approval for the upgrade price which she was able to do. Then I asked her if they can offer me buy-one get one free smart phone promotion so I can add my son (new account) to my plan. I was offered to get the MyTouch slid for free ($100 then $100 rebate). I jokingly said if she was able to give me the Vibrant for free then i would add the line. To my surprise, she was able to do it. Basically, i paid $200 for 2 Vibrant phones.
I love TMobile.

We got the same deal on our family plan, upgrading from two T-Mobile G1s that had about 6 and 11 months left on the contract.
Last time I upgraded was 2 months after the MyTouch 3G release, so I know I still had some time to go. I upgraded over the internet, and don't ask me how the phone was $165 for me, I have another line on my account that's been out of contract for quite a few months and on that line the phone was $400 something, as it was on the other 3 lines on the account. I don't know what was going on, neither do I care, all I know is that I got my vibrant for $165

Got a great deal on my Vibrant!

Hi guys, this will be my first android phone and I am EXCITED. I'm coming from.....a sidekick LX.....haha sooo much needed upgrade.
At first, I called T-mobile and after much convincing they gave me the phone for $150, waived the $18 phone activation, and bumped my internet from $30 a month to only $20......GREAT! right?....but...
..then, my dad, who's the best person I know in getting deals and stuff, told me to call them and tell them I wanted to cancel my order because I could get an iphone 3GS for only $100 and could easily switch. So we did that, and guess what? They actually gave us an extra $100 mail-in rebate!!!
sooo my Samsung Vibrant cost after everything is settled.....$50

Yeah they do give great deals if you haven't upgraded in a while. Unfortunately, people like me abuse it and they give me good deals, but not killer ones like this.
I got my 8900 for 60 bucks, when it was 200 also. And they gave me a free Razr2 and such.
yeah i'm pretty excited, do you still have that BB or did you "abuse" the system again and get a vibrant haha
How the hell did you get $20 internet?
I have T-Mobile for 8 years and had my grandfathered Blackberry $20 data plan for 2 years until I switched to Vibrant and they told me they will need to bump my data plan to $25 Android plan. I am 18 months into the contract with 2 extra family lines on the plan (24 and 20 months into the contract).

You gotta say cancel as son as the automated service asks what you want. Them tell the rep you have been with them for awhile but feel like you're paying too much. They should offer to drop the bill a little.

I'll give your thing a try, also is that discount for being a student or working for the university?
Guys, there are A LOT of companies that get discounts, they just don't tell you. I used to work for Best Buy and just for that you get a discount, if you are a student, you get a discount, etc... also, he has $20 internet PLUS $15 for text, that's 35... I pay $25 for internet plus $10 unlimited text for all the lines in the family plan, so its also $35
yeah except my college recently got rid of college email accounts. And you cant have student/company discounts on flexpay and i haven't met the 6month good payment history (i have 8 months good payment history) to switch to regular payment but still apparently don't qualify for regualr payment. F**K flexpay!
Very good deal.
I got a decent deal too.
On my existing line 1 with 13 months since my last upgrade, they agreed to give me the $199 upgrade price since I ported over my girlfriend's AT&T number as a new line 2. I got a 2nd Vibrant for that line at $199. They also agreed to give line 2 the unlimited data plan for $25/mo to match my line 1, since I have the grandfathered G1 data plan with 400 text messages. I also have unlimited loyalty minutes for $90 for both lines.
So... $45 each line for unlimited voice, $25 each line for unlimited data, $199 per phone. That's a non-subsidy phone plan price with a subsidized phone price.
Been with T-Mo about 7 years.
I actually got a similar deal on mine as well.
My contract ended back in December but I'd been using an iPhone for a little longer than that. I wanted to upgrade but T-Mobile didn't have much that could compare to be worth extended my contract. After reading around about the Vibrant and the deals people were getting with them I decided to give them a call. I was connected to what I believe is their retentions department and told the rep that I was thinking about switching carriers to AT&T for the new iPhone. She immediately said that she would like me to keep my line with them and wanted to offer me a deal on the Vibrant.
She offered the Vibrant for basically $49.99 after it was said and done. My account was given a $100 credit and then the phone billed for $149.99. Waiving the upgrade fee and shipping charges also seemed to be standard practice. When I asked if that meant I had to use the $30 data plan she said she could discount the plan to $24.99 before I could say anything else. I gladly accepted.
My household has been with T-Mobile for near a decade now, although I'm usually the only one that upgrades out of our four lines. We have the same grandfathered plan from when we opened our account as well. I chalked the great deal up to being long-time customers with them.
I ordered the Vibrant thru T-Mobile.com almost 3 weeks ago. The order got messed up...BAD. They debited our account twice for $1200 ($600 x 2). After waiting for a week with no sign of the phone, the order status stuck on Pending, and no refund, I got fed up and contacted corporate. The girl who I am still working with has been very apologetic with trying to get the issue resolved. On Thursday of last week T-Mobile debited our account yet AGAIN for another $600. I called her immediately and told her what had happened. I could tell she was very frustrated because all of this is out of T-Mobiles control. From what I found out it's actually a 3rd party company that handles all of the telesales and online orders. She called me back a few hours later and explained all of that to me.
During all of this the order status was still "pending." Well what do you know, the phone showed up in the mail later that day. I called her again to tell her and after she put me on hold for a few minutes she came back and told me we could keep the phone for free because of all the troubles. We've received $1200 back over the past couple of days but there is still $600 that is in a hold state on our debit card. Hopefully it will post back soon. It's been pretty crappy not having $1800 for the few weeks. But we got a free phone and a free month of service out of this whole ordeal so I guess it was worth it.

Craigslist
Either craigslist where new G2's are going for $400-450 or Costco where you can get a G2 for $450 without contract.
i stopped by a Costco in Anne Arundel, MD and they said they are not allowed to sell phones w/o contract.

That always depends on the individual dealer as some love their commision so much they don't sell without contract. The one at Arundel Mills and Beltsville in MD won't sell without contract but the one at Pentagon City and Largo does. Go figure
anyway if u wanna buy from Costco, Just buy it for $99 $149 or whatever the two year price is and cancel after 15 days and pay your $200 ETF since Costco dealers doesn't charge additional ETF

On the one hand: Wow, that's probably the cheapest way to get the G2 unlocked and off contract. That's probably cheaper than my 21 month upgrade options right now.
On the other hand: Seriously? We're going to talk about scamming Costco, T-Mobile and HTC here in a public forum? How long until Costco would wise up to something like this or T-Mobile put an additional cancellation clause into their Terms and Conditions?

The Costco dealers do make you sign an additional contract stating that you are liable to pay them an ETF in addition to Tmobiles ETF. This is basically stealing the phone. Tmobile will deny to pay the dealer the commission because the line isn't open. So the dealer just gave you a 99 dollar G2 that they bought for 450 or so. Some dealers will also charge the employee who activated the line back for the full price of the phone.

What page does it say you have to pay Costco a additional ETF. I'm looking at my friend's Vibrant contact and all they're contract says is that if you cancel, you should return the phone within 90 days so they can offer low prices. There's no additional ETF here?

I think you combined 2 comments and responded to a red herring. One comment was asking about Costcos that would sell the phone for full price without a contract (not stealing, just a different way to sell it) and another was asking about Costco ETFs. I don't think anyone was claiming that they could get it for $99 at Costco without a contract - that would get someone in some serious trouble...
I guess I should add that if you were stating that you doubt that Costco doesn't have their own ETF, I agree that would be odd as it is common industry practice for 3rd parties to sell a subsidized phone and have their own ETF in addition to the carrier's ETF, but I wouldn't put it past Costco - they aren't your average 3rd party retailer and often have unique arrangements with manufacturers due to their membership store nature and the way they manage their bulk purchases.
Thanks for all your replies.
I contract one on craigslist, but no answer yet.
seems phone $49

activation fee $30?
Early termination fee $350
maybe you have to keep line more than 15 days. so +$30
dunno if you cancel line contract immediately after purchase. t-mo and costco are separate things. they share info and costco requires phone back?
T-Mo stores able to discount?
Does anyone know if T-Mo retail stores are allowed to negotiate or offer deals? I was going to purchase my G2 via T-Mo online, but also need to get my wife a MyTouch, and I want to see if they can offer a discount for two purchases.
I don't think that the actual retail stores can negotiate at all, other than the occasional waiving of the new line activation fee (Not the upgrade fee). If you want a better deal you would have to call, and it honestly depends on your situation as to how much they are willing to give you (Regular reps might not be able to help either, you may have to contact loyalty). They also may require you to order it rather than get it from a direct dealer, but I'm not sure.

Thanks. i have a Family Plan with 5 lines, and they've always been pretty good about waiving stuff (gave my wife the same grandfathered data plan I had from my original G1 purchase). I guess I'll call Customer Loyalty. Thanks!
