wifi wont work - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

ive tried 3 builds today. all of them are sense builds and none of them will work with wifi. it turns on it finds my network but wont connect.
ive never had a problem before on any builds.
thought it might have been my router but i tried with my moms incredible it was fine.
any ideas?

well i looked it up and apparently other people have had issues with the actual evo 4g and some routers.
can anyone guide me through setting up a fios router for a static ip so i can make this work.
i thought i had it setup right but i guess not

ok hopefully someone may read.
i setup a static ip on the phone. it will connect to the network now but i dont actually get any data... it says connected but i cant do anything web related. do i have to do anything on the router?

1-Tried a non-sense build before ? if then did the data work ?
2- whats your WinMo Rom ?
3- Do you copy your DATA.img or just create a new one when trying different builds ?

every build before has worked. its only evo roms that dont.
chuckydroid
and each time ive let it build its own data.img
son of a... trying a sense build now that isnt evo. and i can get it to connect with a static ip. but still no actual internet. just connected to the router
so i plugged another router into the crappy fios modem/router and i have that network up and i can connect to it without a static ip.
BUT i cant get that router to actually get internet from fios either...
so obviously its fios fault can anyone help fix that

You can look if your access point is giving dns adresses to your phone. Without dsn adresses you can connect but the translation from url to ipadresses wont work.

how do i check?
right now it says its connected to my network. i setup the static ip.
but in the fios router it doesnt show it as being connected. it shows 2 laptops in the house connected and my desktop so why not my phone?

Have you checked for mac-adress filtering in your router? Some of the builds give the device a different mac adress. Your router may be blocking unknown mac adresses.

**** sake. ive gone back to a nexus build and now this wont connect. something got screwed up royally. but i flashed a new winmo rom. new radio and tried all these different builds. how can a problem be still there?
once again im connected to the network but i get no data,
on fios i dont see my phone listed in the networked devices.
i checked mac filtering and its allowing any
i have that situation.
but i still have the 2nd router which i dont know why its not getting internet from the fios router but the network itself works

Maybe your router will only let see device who got a dhcp adres from your router. because you use a static ipadres maybe it will wont appear.

It is strange. Is your dhcp range big enough? Maybe expand this. Did you get a ip in the range of your other devices? DNS adresses (if necesary) you can get by about from your internet provider.
did you reboot router?

im officially about to go insane.
now in winmo it will connect to my wifi but it also doesnt really have a connection.
could this somehow be hardware?
i dont see how since it finds the network and have to put the pw in to connect..

ok thanks to everyone who suggested stuff.
i have no idea what just happened but after i tested my touch pro and saw that it connected. i just once again deleted the network on my hd2 and put it back in and it works without needing static ip.
i just wasted half a day and still dont know what the issue was...
but now im afraid to change builds again

Maybe a hiccup. Still was a strange issue. Happy for you it work now. I understand you're afraid to change build now. But what is life without taking risks

wifi signal, but no internet.

Hi
I just received my htc hero, and I really love it.
The only problem is, is that when i try to browse the web it doesnt load webpages. My WiFi is signal is good, i even removed the WEP key but still no succes, and on my old iPhone I can browse the web using the same WiFi connection
Does anyone know what the problem is?
Mike
Can you use the internet on your pc? Is your router setup properly?
yep everything is good..
does obtain an address ??
yes its 192.168.1.101
also if connected, select the menu key and hit advanced, make sure its not set to a fixed (static) address unless you need that.
I have mine set to 14 channels too... not that I probably need that...
i did that and it is not static also set it on 14 channels but no effect
well i had that issue when i just got my hero phone. everything was fine, signal was excellent, dhcp was ok , and it even got an ip but there was no data connection present. The only solution was to update the router's driver. In my case, it was a d link 524.try that too. ( just to precise that i had no problems with my previous phones with the router)
Another thing is to try setting the router to g mode only.

what type of router do u have? u might want to search for a hacked driver for it. o know for a fact that u can find a lot for linksys.
try to connect to other AP's just to confirm that the problem is a compatibility issue bet ur phone and ur specific router and not the phone itself.
I got the same problem.
at home it works great with the router.
But at another router by my girl,
it connects to the router but the Internet doesn't work.
Sometimes it works for about 3 minutes.
I couldn't find the problem and her laptop works great
with that router.
The router is a Sitecom Wl-173.
Do you have the same router?
I am having a similar issue. It will work for a few minutes and then although the router signal says good I get no data coming through.
This is only a recent development though as I upgraded from a Linksys WRT54G router to a Linksys WRT160NL (which is Wirless-N), now I know that the Hero doesn't support N but the router is set to mixed mode as I have more G devices than N in my house so it should still work fine.
I will try tonight though swapping the router over to just work in G mode and see how I get on.
Its been suggested that the stock Linksys firmware on all models has issues with the Hero, which is why my old router was OK as it was running Tomato firmware instead of stock Linksys.
I guess I'll just have to wait until a 3rd party releases one for the WRT160NL
I had the same problem with my D-Link 524, i changed it to a netgear and internet has worked perfectly on my Hero since. It is a problem with the D-Link firmware and how it communicates with the Hero.
I had a similar problem with my router. What did it for me was to disable all security stuff (WEP / WPA) AND access control (i.e. define which devices may connect to your router). Then try to surf via hero. If surfing works, switch back on security stuff, surfing should still work. At least it did for me.

I second this, however,if you still have the Di 524,you should know that an update is out and it fixes the connectivity problem.

The wifi-stack in the kernel on the hero doesn't work well with many APs. With D-link I've found problems when the boxes run in 802.11n with b/g compatibility. The results are best with the AP locked at 802.11g.

what is your version od the di524? is it the g2 version?
I think it is the G2 version, yes. It does say G2 on the label on the back of the router.

[Q] WIFI connections

I have connections problems with my WIFI-Router!
I don't know where the problem is!
I have my wifi connection saved to my cell phone ("Remembered the network") but when the router is ON the phone tells me "Not in range" and doesn't connect to it automatically! AND that happens on the remaining 2 android phones that i have! So i guess the problem is not in the phone! Besides they scan many wifi signals in the area but not the one of my house!
However, if i keep restarting the router and forgetting the network then adding it manually, "sometimes" it works and all phones can connect normally to the router!
It is bugging me a lot because sometimes 2 days pass without being able to connect!!!
What can be this problem?!
Thanks
PS: PCs and my bro's nokia symbian connect normally to the router all the time!
I know this has something to do with MAC addresses and IP addresses but i dunno what...
What kind of router do you have, and what kind of network security?
Maybe try changing from wep to wap, I had Android on my old Rhodium, and it would connect to wap and unsecured, but wep wouldn't work. I think HD2's don't have the same problem, but anything's worth a try. There is no such thing as failure, just finding out what doesn't work before you can find out what does work

First thanks for the reply!
I guess the problem is in the router too! Although i didn't have that problem weeks ago
I have D-Link router and secured with WEP!
Ok i will try to change the security
But does changing the security will affect the PC connection!?

[Q] Problems connecting to wifi network: looping "obtaining IP address"

There appears to be a problem with new versions of Android and old routers. Many people have reported the "obtaining IP address" loop problem.
Let me explain. I use the leisure facilities in a local hotel. It has a public (open) wifi network. I believe it uses an old router. My Galaxy S2 (Gingerbread) and AsusTransformer (ICS) both connected to this network without problems. I recently replaced the S2 with an S3 (ICS) and my Transformer with a Nexus 7 (Jellybean). Neither of my new devices connect to this network. I have had the same problem in a local cafe.
I have researched this problem. It is not uncommon. It appears to be caused by an odd mix of hardware (router and wifi chipset) and software (later versions of Android). If you are unlucky (like me and some others) you will be unable to connect to some networks.
The solution is to use static IP addressing (since your device is unable to obtain a dynamic IP address). This will allow your device to connect to the network -- but you need to know the correct settings (for static IP addressing) before you can actually use the network.
This problem has been reported by many people. Does anyone know if there is a fix or a workaround?
The only one I can think of it to get hold of a device that does connect to this network and copy the (static IP) settings. But this would only solve it for one location meaning that I will run into it again the next time I try to connect to a network with old hardware.
Sometimes when I get that problem it's due to IP address conflicts on the Windows 7 computers.
I go to the computer and:
http://helpdeskgeek.com/networking/release-and-renew-an-ip-address/
Otherwise I just pull the router out and refresh it, should work for another few weeks or so.

I don't have access to the PC. It is owned by the hotel. I need a solution that I can apply client (Nexus) side.
Solution
I found a solution. I asked the guy to reset the router and both my Nexus and S3 immediately connected. Someone advised me to do this. I have no idea why it worked. Not really a solution since i cant go round cafes asking people to reset their routers for me.
Is there a way to find out IP, DNS, gateway etc values on Nexus when they are dynamically assigned?
I sometimes have this Problem when starting my accesspoint after enabeling wifi on my N7.
I have to reboot my N7 in that case to get an IP.
Happened to me quite a few times when I went out with it to a restaurant or something. It just loops and loops.
My Nexus (and S3) now connect to the hotel network every time now. So it looks like you only need to ask the owned to reset his router once.

Resetting the modem solves the problem if you don't make any change to the router settings. I don't understand why the hell google is not solving the problem yet...
many users are found to face the same problem..
eve I can connect with my Nokia E72 but not with my N7...
I can get the IP from my cell phone. But come on, what's the point of doing so?? Are you gonna assign the IP for each and every WiFi you connect?? Or if the IP changes everyday??
Static ip won't help, yes you can connect to wifi, but cannot get connection to internet. This is a bug of android, and ITs in Princeton univ. had some investigation. 412 should have fixed it

I just started having a similar problem. I have a samsung galaxy tab with Sprint. I've had it for a year and this is the first time I've had this trouble.
The only difference is, I cannot connect to any wifi network at all. It keeps hanging on "obtaining IP address" and then disconnects. It doesn't matter if it's my home wifi or school or free wifi in a restaurant.
The only possible connection I can make is that I downloaded Lookout to check it out as a possible security app, I have since uninstalled it but that did not fix my problem.
Continuing to research this but any ideas on how to fix this would be fantastic.
I'm having this problem on my HTC One S. It happened yesterday without warning and it's really annoying. I went to a nearby cafe and the wifi worked perfectly, so it's something wrong here.
Static IP solution connects to me to the network but I can't actually use the internet, so I'm stumped.
i'm getting the same error with AOKP 4.2.2, and also know people with stock 4.2.2 with it.
the only way i found to fix it is to reboot the phone..... and wait for it to happen again and reboot it again
i cannot use static IP since in my university (and some other public places) it is not possible to connect it like that :S

Phone wifi says connected but I have no access

Hey guys, I have a problem and I feel like I've tried all I can think of to try and fix it. I got both my wife and I 2 kyocera rises. We activated them and all that and got them setup on our home wifi.
Well, I noticed that my rise will work fine and surf the net fine but at random times I won't be able to access the internet (Or any internet apps) even though it says i'm connected to the network. It will work if I use that connection widget to turn off the wifi and turn it back on but then it does the same thing, says i'm connected but i'm unable to use browsers/apps. The things I have tried was: Restart the phone, Reset the modem and router, factory reset the phone (Thinking it might be an app conflict), change the router channels, and I've even setup the phone for static IP.
Nothing is working and i'm at a stand still. The weird thing though is I believe my wives phone doesnt have this problem. She doesn't surf the web as much as I do but she occasionally goes onto the phone and never complains. If it helps, the router I am using is the Netgear WNR3500L. Does anybody have any ideas I can try out?

Manually set IP information on your phone and set the DNS to 8.8.8.8 (Google). Otherwise I'd recommend checking for the latest update on the Wireless router.

I will try that and see how it is. My friend that used to work for sprint told me to disable connections optimizer as well as it has problems.
UPDATE: I thought it was working but it isn't I decided to grab my wifes phone to see if the same was happening to hers at the same time as mine and it does. Well, so it must be something wrong with my network but I'm not sure what. There's no new firmware updates either. The weird thing is, I tried my nexus 7 and my t.v.'s wifi and they both work so something is making the androids not want to stay connected or something.
Androids have this weirdness with Wi-Fi. Try disabling security.
Factory reset the router and set it back up.
I found the problem. It was intact the firmware but there was no firmware updates from net gear but then I remembered my router is open source. So I decided to try flashing tomato onto my router and now my phones aren't dropping the connection. Thanks for the help guys!

Wifi issue related to root?

Hi Folks,
I have been postponing this post but nothing ive seemed to do has worked. I THINK after i rooted my issues started. I am unable to browse the net or anything when connected to my wifi. I have reset the router, forgotten and rejoined the network with no avail. All my other devices do not have this issue. Im not really sure what else to say so maybe some of you gurus could pick my brain. Though this is a wifi only issue and on this network. When connected to other networks im fine. My setup is as follows. I have a hard line going from the router the ISP provided in the other end of the house to the router in my room. Like i said my phone is the only device that has issues on this network.
thanks in advance.

That's a pretty strange issue, not sure there is going to be much help... I've had some strange, random issues with my S5. I had issues with wireless, xposed and some other apps after rooting the first time. I got tired of it and used Odin to reflash the stock firmware, then performed a factory reset and rooted afterwords. I haven't had any problems at all after doing this... In all honesty, that's the route I would go if I were you. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, hope you get sorted out

well i used odin and got back but it turns out it seems to be the router? im on stock with no root and still cant access the net or anything else when im connected to the router. any thoughts on this?
Can you reset the settings in the router via your pc?
Try connecting standing right next to the router. I had this issue with my Note 2 and it ended up being a physical issue with the wireless chip or antennas. It's actually the reason I'm not on a S5.
Not that u want to hear this, but I had to replace my router for the same reason. My router would only pick up certain devices, had to do with hardware and firewall security settings.

First and foremost you have to isolate the issue to either ur phone or the router. In order to do that its very simple.... can you connect to wifi outside of your house like starbucks or friends wfii? If the answer is yes than the issue lies solely with your router. Let me know what you find out and I can help guide you <---- systems administrator Also please provide the make and model of your router as well as your modem and your ISP.
EDIT: I just read the line where you talk about having another router in your room. I can already tell you this is probably NOT an issue with your phone but rather your setup. The secondary router must be setup as a repeater or bridge OR on a different subnet. This gets very tricky for average home user and I do not recommend you tackle it on your own. Also your main router has to be able to play nice with the secondary and if it's one provided by your ISP it's probably a POS. Also your phone is probably not the only device having issues with this setup.... its the only one you are noticing having issues. Android OS is very sensitive to weird wifi setups and anything out of the norm will set it off. It's actually a great tool in diagnosing wifi issues.

Android OS is very sensitive to weird wifi setups and anything out of the norm will set it off. It's actually a great tool in diagnosing wifi issues.

Hi there thanks for the reply. Yes i can connect to any other router without issue. The router is my Router Info:
Name N300 Wireless Router
Model F9K1002v5 (01B)
Firmware 5.00.15(Nov 1 2013)
Serial No. 12349GC2508237
Boot Loader 0.12
I use my tablet and other pcs within this wifi. It is under a different subnet as well. (i think so been a while since ive done any networking) The main router that comes in has the standard IP 192.168.1.1 and the IP for my router in my room (basically set up like this since my room is quite far and gets bad signal from the main router, Cable in -> Main Router -> Hardwire hooked into a port -> ethernet run to my room -> Connected to a port on the wireless router) 192.168.2.1. My ISP is Optimumn Online. My wifi was working fine until about 10 mins ago. seems to happen so often. I did change the security a while back to TKIP + AES on the router and made sure it was the same on the phone and it was working fine for days until like i said about 10 mins ago.

Not that u want to hear this, but I had to replace my router for the same reason. My router would only pick up certain devices, had to do with hardware and firewall security settings.

This leads me to think that perhaps the router (however old or new) may have a setting, or an actual limit, on how many devices connect to it.
If not that, perhaps if you rooted, and tried removing bloat, you may have been a bit overzealous and removed something related to WiFi and are now having this issue as a result.
I have only removed the list of apps and bloat that have been posted on Ricks Rom HERE. The ONLY problem I have seen since removing this list, was that I can no longer access PhotoVault correctly. Gives me an error saying that it has no connection to the database, but my 4G is working fine at the time as I was downloading via steam and streaming a movie, and playing a PC game at the same time...

You have the right setup with a different subnet. It's possible the main router is assigning the same IP address that your router has to another device. It would be best if you picked up another router that has repeater capabilities and set it up in repeater mode. Also reserve an IP address for your router from the main router to avoid IP conflicts.
Another possibility is simply the wifi on your router is deteriorating and it's time for a replacement. I recommend the Netgear Nighthawk R7000 if you don't mind spending the $$$. If your on a bit of a budget the Netgear N900 (WNDR4500v2) is the next best thing that supports repeater mode.
well its been still working intermediary. I have to unplug the router and plug it back in then i can browse the net on my phone. idk if id like to lay out that kind of money for a new router. there has to be something else thats causing it. i set the router to reboot everyday, also my phone. its odd though. sometimes it works sometimes it dosent.
