So after messing up a Bionix flash, going to Eugene's Froyo, and now back to the closest thing I could find to stock, I'm having trouble connecting to the network for data...
Under settings>about phone>status, I list Mobile network state as disconnected.
anyone have any way to get this connected??

Good evening all,
Hopefully someone can answer my question.
Sunday I took a road trip. I noticed that my phone had no service. In the past when I left the t-mobile area my g1 would automatically connect to whatever network was available and the roam indicator would show up.
I tried to manually connect to at&t through the network operators menu. My phone said "Your sim card does not allow a connection to this network.".
I have a rooted g1 running the official t-mobile 1.6 rom. Is this a problem with my rom or my phone or the network. I've tried searching and I haven't found much of a solution yet.
I am in the usa. A lot of the google search results I got were from Europe.
might not have been a ROM issue; just a bug...
Did you reboot or force radio off then back on?
I have the same problem and yet no luck to resolve this.

I did reboot and enable/disable airplane mode.
Today I switched to the Cyanogen Rom. I'll see if that fixes the problem. I tried to manually switch to at&t, but it still says that the sim card does not allow that. I am in the t-mobile coverage area; t-mobile probably does not allow the use of a different network when their network is available. I'd like to test it out to see if roaming works now, but I'm not taking a drive out to the countryside just to see how my phone works.
I guess this one might be hard for me to test because I am rarely out the the t-mobile coverage area.
While running Stock EB13(rooted with camera fix) I had to go back to Eclair because my 4G would not connect. I have always had a strong 4G signal at work but all of a sudden it would not connect. I tried rebooting, wipe, Odin, and Samsung update app, and nothing. I figured Sprint's network was to blame, so I called.....no network outage, no cell tower problems, zip. Thus I Odined my Epic back to Stock eclair, and bam 4G was up. Has anyone had a problem like this?
Edit: Ok so as of today I went to a Service Center to order a new phone, Sprint customer/tech support tried their best but my 4G at work would not consistently connect. However, as soon I got out of range of the tower close to work 4g connected and reconnected like normal. Which leaves me to believe that the tower or antenna is acting like a B**CH. Well see once my new Epic is in!
I use a custom EB13 ROM and 4G is fine; using WiFi Tether, too.
I was also running Wifi Tether on EB13 but no custom ROM or Kernel. I'm in North Chicago so i was wondering if anyone else was having 4G issues.

You might have had an issue with your modem. You could reflash/reodin the modem only. Also you could try updating your prl settings through the menu settings. If that doesn't work then update prl using the manual method in the development section.
I am facing a weird problem with my SGS since I signed up for 3G services with Vodafone in AP, India.
When switched on, the phone first connects to the 2G network and stays there for a few minutes. When it tries to connect to the 3G network a little later, all hell breaks loose.
I was originally on Galnet MIUI v5.1 when this first happened. The phone application (com.google.phone or something similar) would FC on trying to connect to the 3G network and I would lose network connectivity completely.
I thought this might be an issue with the modem/csc so I tried switching modems. Nothing helped.
I later shifted to Darky's 10.1 with the default modem and multi-csc. On that, I would get a toast saying "Refreshing SIM data" every time the phone tried to connect to 3G and after a few tries, I would lose network connectivity again.
Same behaviour on Juwe's 5.1, and on stock DDJV6. DDJV6 is the latest official ROM for my region(India) so I assume it has the correct modem. I set the CSC to INU manually.
The phone works perfectly if I keep the network type settings to GSM only.
Any ideas on why this could be happening and a possible fix?
I have an unlocked Defy from T-Mobile USA that I'm using with my AT&T service, but I'm only getting EDGE wherever I go, no UMTS at all, and I've even heard of people getting it to run on HSPA bands. I know already that HSPA is available everywhere from my home to my workplace, thanks to my Atrix 4G. I've rooted the Defy and it's running Cyanogenmod 7 latest. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I can find nothing on this forum or on Google to remedy the issue.
You should try to change the freq via baseband switcher. And restart.
Maybe you got the "2g only" checked in networks settings..uncheck that.
Settings >Wireless & networks > Mobile networks
You can also put automatic(2G and 3G) mode in GSM/UMTS network preferences.
Thanks for the reply Viper. I just noticed the baseband is set to some central Europe nonsense. Should I change it to one of the T-Mobile USA band settings? There's nothing there for AT&T.
Edit: I changed the baseband to US T-Mobile 3.Something, whichever was latest. 2G only was not checked. I'm still getting 2G only. Could it be my APN settings? Could I copy the APNs from my Atrix?
I'm having a problem with my AT&T connection as well, but I've been using my phone unlocked on the network since March with no problem. I'm new to modding, but OCD about streamlining my electronics. My friend suggested rooting my device and flashing a new ROM. I decided on stock Nordic Froyo, and it makes me so happy not to see all the T-mobile crap in my apps tray.
BUT the collateral damage is not so hot. I have no 3g or even 2g connection anymore. I tried the fix in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944258 and was able to get a signal with 4 bars instead of the previous state of emergency calls only, but no letters like E or 3g and no ability to use the internet/transfer data. I also installed the broadband switcher in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052745 and tried all of the T-mobile US bands. No luck. I did rest the APN to default. No change. I've been using wifi, but will have to go back to work soon. Not having access to the smart part of my smartphone will feel sort of like having an arm cut off.
I'm not sure what to do next. I could try flashing another ROM, but from what I've read in the forums, that's no guarantee.
If anyone has any suggestions to help a noob, I'd be forever grateful.
Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the link, halah. Do I apply this as an update.zip from recovery? Or install?
Never mind, it won't work for me, for whatever reason.
Have kind of a weird issue. Friends D2 freaked out.. they've been running liberty for months with no issues and yesterday it was spazzing out so I pulled the battery, and every time I turned it on it would go straight to bootloader. I left battery out for a while and finally go to recovery menu, did factory reset, got rom to boot, but cell network showed it was off. I tried enabling and disabling airplane mode, no dice, wifi, bluetooth work fine but no cell network at all. SBF'd today to stock, and signal meter still shows cell network as being off, and I can't get it on at all. About menu shows unknown under baseband, eri and prl, almost like the OS can't communicate with the radio portion of phone. It's odd. Any ideas? TIA
Sounds like you just need to do OTA activation. *228.
Can't if it won't connect to cell network. I've sbf'd the phone before and I've picked up towers just fine.

Try putting it into Roaming (Automatic) instead of Home only
WHat version did you sbf? Was it a rooted sbf?

Tried that when I first did it... no dice. Sbf'd to 2.33.. My other phone with same carrier picks up full signal just fine, even with default prl.
