No, I don't want to leave now, but I want them to fulfill my contract so I can cancel in the future, if I so please, without an etf.
Still, that's a $1.47 + $4.60 (lost discount), which = $6.07 a mo, or $72.84 a year, which is half of a monthly bill!
Losing your % discount on lines 3-5 is not a reason to have your ETF waived. The only way they will waive your ETF is if you were offered a MRC discount for 1 or 2 years and it was removed.
As far as I know, surcharges did not go up - you might want to check into that.

Surcharges suck any way you put it. Some months they will be low and others they may skyrocket. Even with my military discount and staying within my allotted limits (data, text, calls, etc) my monthly bill will never be the same because the surcharges are never the same. NOW, if the surcharge were to jump up to $15+ a month out of nowhere I would get pissed and get down to the bottom of it. If it really bothers you that much call a represantative and have them try to explain it to you more in detail as to what exactly is going on with your bill.

ETF can also be waived in the event a service member gets deployed with orders unless they changed it in the past year or so.

Technically, that's a 23.5% increase, and that's after rounding the wrong way.

Hmm, good point. I was just thinking about that while watching a youtube video. That's really strange that the discount would have an effect on the monthly admin fees, yet not the $10 whatever fee.

Well I think the $10 fee is unjustifiable in the first place. Since it's not for 4G data, and unlimited data is already included with Sprint's plans, it's basically saying hey, you have to have unlimited plus 1 if you want a 4G phone (because those are the only non-**** phones we've ever had)
Seeing that the discount was included on the admin fees was a real shocker to me.

They didn't change the surcharge, they eliminated the discount on additional lines effective Sep. 1st. However, since this is a material change of contract (costs you $), you CAN get out of contract. At least for the lines affected anyway. You only have so long to call in and object to the change of service or you automatically accept. Everybody was notified of this change i think 2 billing cycles ago. I called in, advised that a material change of service was not acceptable and was transferred to level 2 who told me he could credit me for 1 month (plan price not including additional lines - $130). When pressed, also stated I could get out of contract. He didn't say just get out of contract for the additional lines, but I'm assuming thats the case. I now have until October 12th to make a decision. That being said, dropping my discount of 23% on 2 additional lines costs me about $9.20/mo. Can I get comparable features (UNLIMITED data, unlimited to any cell, navagation, etc.) for all 4 lines for the same or less $? Probably not. But the credit of $130 is just $26 shy of the discount I would have recieved total for the next 17 months of my contract.

Yeah, there must be some other rounding going on with the individual fees that caused the difference.
Note that the individual fees aren't percentage based but as a whole they are. I wonder how exactly they are determined.

Your % discount is not being counted as a reason to waive ETF as you never signed a contract to receive your NVP discount (funny huh?).

Eventhough I'm not currently in a 4G market, the EVO has me excited however I'd like to get the best deal possible particularly as I'd be using it perhaps 80+% on Wi-Fi off their network.
1) Full retail price: $450 or $600 as I'm not sure I want to sign a 2 yr contract? If I do sign a 2yr contract is the ETF a monthly prorated $200 & would that have any effect on my credit rating-report?

However, these discounts do NOT apply to the $10 Premium Data, $29.99 Wi-Fi Hotspot, or $7 TEP. Only to the actual plan!
Contract: If you are a NEW customer, you MUST agree to a 2 year contract, even if you don't take the discount. So take the discount.

Where did you get the $600 price? I thought the phone was $450 without a discount and $199 with a rebate/discount for an upgrade/new contract.

If you pay the $200 ETF then it won't go against your credit, but if you don't pay it (just like any other bill) they could take you to collections and then it will hurt your credit. Keep in mind in order to get the rebate you will still need to keep the phone on sprint for X period of time or they'll deny the rebate.
Also, I don't believe the amount is prorated monthly at all. You are agreeing to 2 years and thus get a discount on the phone.

The ETF is $200 until month 5, then goes down by $10 every month until only $50 remains. And no, if you pay the ETF and final bill (make sure you pay it ALL!) by the bill due date (like any bill) it doesn't affect your credit.

It's called an NVP discount, and there are (literally) hundreds. They range from 5% to 25% based on where you work. So go into a store and get it setup!

Define "deal". Sam's Club has the cheapest price ($160) last I checked, Radio Shack and Bestbuy both will do it out the door with no MIR and have cheaper accessories. But those same accessories void your mfg. warranty the second you plug them into your phone. Plus you're going to have to call customer service to get any discounts added to your plan.
Corporate stores will require the MIR (Extra hundred bucks up front), but will setup your discount johnny on the spot (should you qualify and I'll bet dollars to dimes you do!) and walk you through the entire setup up the phone (They call it "Ready Now")

Absolutely. If something in the phone fails or needs to be cleaned take it to a local Sprint Service center. They either repair or replace at no charge, and replacements are usually in your hands within 3-5 days (unlimited). If you bust the screen out, get water in it, loose it or get it stolen call Asurion and for $100 they send you another (up to 3 a year).

I thought you couldn't use a SERO plan with the EVO? (or any recent smarphone short of the TP2) Or is EPRP different from SERO and I'm just being thrown off by the fact that it says /sero on the URL in your post?
Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out... For anyone not familiar, SERO is an old/outdated set of discount plans Sprint used to offer (based on employee referral), EPRP is the current/modern iteration of that and apparently you can use the EVO on such a plan (and you can upgrade a SERO plan to EPRP too), but it's possible you may not be able to actually buy the EVO w/an EPRP plan until July (judging by what Sprint employees have stated elsewhere), due to the fact that you need to get the phone directly thru Sprint with the plan in order to be able to get on the EPRP and they're locking out the EVO from the EPRPs 'till then (like they did w/the Pre), so that's a bit of a letdown.
Am I right? Kind of a downer, I would've loved to save an extra $10 a month but I don't think I can wait 'till July! Thanks for the info anyway.

I'm currently on AT&T and I'm not even waiting 'till the 7th (Monday after the EVO launches), even tho supposedly they've got some big (non-Apple) announcements then. Just sick and tired of waiting for them to release a solid Android phone, the EVO is calling my name! 'Specially after I discovered I can get a 15% discount on my monthly bill thru StudentRate and still qualify for Premier status. That basically makes EPRP irrelevant for me since it's the same amount of discount but w/no caveats; and StudentRate's also got a sweet offer for those ordering the EVO online on the 4th, after 2 different credits you basically end up paying $125 for it w/no activation fees and free overnight shipping, tough to beat. I don't mind waiting 'till Monday if it means saving $110!

1. not sure about sprint premier with the 59.99 plan. previously, SERO plans got special treatment even though they didn't qualify for it by their cost structure (phone upgrade discounts, etc), it might be the same with EPRP, you'd have to call and ask
2. very difficult to more from a regular plan into an EPRP. If you want it, sign up with it
3. sprint distinguishes employees from regular users on a referral plan. my rep says I can get it friday. i'll post back friday.

The only way using a charger voids your warranty is if you tell them you used a non-OEM charger when making your claim And why would you do that? Not to mention that Radioshack, at least, can set up discounts right in the store. Radioshack will also walk you through using the device (if you've never owned a smartphone before and need it). We call it "customer service."

According to a lot of different posts on sprintusers.com, EPRP plans under the cost limit for Premier don't qualify for it, period. Corporate discounts and other stuff don't preclude you from Premier status but EPRP does (it's not treated as a discount but a separate set of plans, which it is pretty much since some of the minute allotments vary).
Anyway, I'm going ahead w/the 15% StudentRate discount plans, I can get the EVO thru them for $125 anyway... Seems a little more honest than getting in on the 25% Time Warner deal heh (since I AM a student). I'm just wondering if you can upgrade your plan at any time (say, to a Share Plan) when using these discounts.

But it seems they charged way too many taxes for NYC, NY State, activation fee which was not waived. Fee for this, fee for that.
The fees were prorated, which means I was charged only 2 weeks of fees. I don't want to know how the bill will be with 30 days worth of fees.

we were told that the activation fee would be on the current billing cycle, but would be credited back on the next billing cycle.

I went into my local sprint store and had them apply a credit for what my corp discount should be and they were happy to do it.
They also said that my activation fee posts at first but should be credited back after a bill or two and if not to come in and they will credit it themselves.
Find a local Sprint store where the ppl are cool and then go to that store exclusively. You would be amazed the lengths ppl will go for you once you develop a rapport with them.

But it seems they charged way too many taxes for NYC, NY State, activation fee which was not waived. Fee for this, fee for that.
The fees were prorated, which means I was charged only 2 weeks of fees. I don't want to know how the bill will be with 30 days worth of fees.
I hope this is a one time only. At that price it's like the iPhone!

Yes, I'm a premier member. I will complain then. They didn't game me any discounts for accessories (the skin, and the plastic screen protectors), now they are charging me for the activation fee. I'll send them an email. Thanks for the tips.

Ha you think you were about to throw up. My wife and I have the shared 1500 minute plan when our first bill came it was $260 bucks, WTH. I realized they had charges us the 29.99 fee which I had originally wanted for the hotspot but cancelled it. Then they added (2) $36.00. I hope it will not be like this every bill or I may have to cancel before the month is out.

anybody could get the eprp discounted plan, you just need a sprint employee's email and last 3 of his id #. Russ McGuire (a sprint exec) posted his info on his personal blog so anyone could use it. Basically gets you a cheaper plan with more minutes than the basic.
I got it for my buddy, but I didn't use it cuz I get a corp discount that doesn't stack on top of the EPRP plans.
Edit: You have to do it at account signup, they won't switch an existing account over. (might be able to do it with new line activation).

Edit: Just reread your post. Are you sure they are both on the same family plan or are they two seperate individual plans on the same account? That sounds way too high.
I have the family 1600 eprp which is the same as the 1500 minute regular plan except it's cheaper with 100 extra minutes and $5 less per additional line
I have 5 lines 2 of them are evo's 3 lines have insurance and I paid $212 for my first month.
My plan is $109 for the first 2 lines $15 each additional line and $10 per evo line with $7 per line that has insurance.
The regular version of this plan is $129 for the first two lines and $20 per additional line.
EPRP also gets hotspot at $20 vs $30.
I bought the EVO 4G in the 25th of June and got my first bill today. I was charged $152.53, which seems very high based on the plan and services i signed up for when i bought my phone. Im on the everything data plan for 69.99, with the $10 add-on for 4g, $7 for insurance, and$ 4.99 for the spending limit program. That totals $91.98 plus i get a 10% discount. I called to ask why my bill is so high and the customer service rep told me because i was charged for the period of june 13 - july 13 and also prorated charges from june 25th - july 13. I understand the prorated charges, but is it normal for sprint to charge you a whole month in addition to your actual usage in advance? I didn't even own the phone on the 13th of june. I feel ripped off

I got my phone on the 28th of June, have the same plan as you, and was charged around $150. I was charged for the previous month and the activation charge. I'm a little put-off by Sprint at this point. One thing I appreciated about T-Mobile was their excellent customer service. I was never hit with these outrageous charges before. Not to mention Sprint says it will be at least 2 months before my government discount kicks in.

What is happening is you have to pay a month in advance, i think all cell phone companies do that now. So you have the pro-rated month, plus the next full month in your first bill. Then any activation fees, plus as said the discounts take up to 2 months for them to kick in.
Simply all carriers do that. They bill you in advance. T-mobile does that, AT&T does that, Verizon does that. Also remember it's almost $40 just for the activation fee. Your next month's bill will look better.
yeah they charge one month in advance, which is normal for all carriers; however, the thing that irritated me was the prorated charge; why not just start the billing cycle for whenever the line was activated; luckily i ordered mine on June 9th and it the billing cycle started on June 12 or 13; they still charged me like $19 in prorated amount, which i got them to credit me once i found out that they started charging me even though i did not have the lines activated; i ordered through their website on the 9th and didn't activate the phones until June 12th, when i received the phones; however, they started charging me from June 9th, even though no phones were activated or anything
I did a lovely contract transfer a year ago, no start-up fee's just started paying the monthly. my bill was a little wonky the first month from the evo but it's normal again.
Just received the 2nd month bill. 4 lines (2 Evos & 2 Blackberries) 1500 minutes and it comes to $170.
Anyway, Sprint is not trying to give me the Save50 promo credit. The chat agent said they have no record of it. But I have screen capture that shows a total of $200 credit ($50 credit per line). I am already hating dealing with Sprint so many times.
I'm having second thoughts about my switch to Sprint. To me nothing can justify having to pay what's essentially twice in a month. A full month for a period starting at a date I didn't even own the phone, and then a prorated charge. That's a huge disappointment for me. I already dislike the way business is conducted at Sprint. Thankfully I have until the 25th under the 30 day guarantee. The EVO is a great phone, but the 30fps cap and horrible lag in addition to the bill are making me lean towards leaving Sprint

No, that's not how it works.
You pay a prorated charge for the period from the date of activation until the start of the next billing cycle.
After that, you pay the next billing cycle in advance. It's a one-time thing and it's quite reasonable, logical and easily justified. If you're somehow being charged something different you've got a customer service issue that needs to be remedied. I anticipate that you don't, though.
You get charged a prorated amount the first bill. That is why you always discuss what will be on the first bill with customer service.
Now that you know...sit back, relax and enjoy the Sprint party
If you decide to leave however, please don't start another "I hate Sprint because..."thread. To many people have started those already and the funny thing is, the majority of the time it is their own-doing!
Yeah, the first bill is prorated from the time you sign up, until the monthly billing date, then you pay the coming month's fees. It's a little bit strange, but not bad. Basically, you're always paying for the next month of service, not the last month of service.
go ahead and switch to tmobile, att, or verizon, and the same thing will happen to you...

I'm rooted and running 53fps. I really wish people would stop bringing up the 30fps cap unless they're willing to do the research to fix it (with or without HTC's help).
And the horrible lag? Are you referring to the screen lag, i.e. the fps issue?
i got my evo june 6 and my first bill was 135
second bill which i still have like 18 days to pay is 185! ><, but thats because i had to claim a "new" phone via asurion .. shattered screen ><
so im guessing my regular bills will be around 80 cuz i got charged 2 months of Total protection since i added it half month on july one for 5 one for 7.

T-mobile does not do that. They might make you put extra money down if you have bad credit, but the first bill will be the right amount + activation. I was told my first bill would be prorated, something around $25 + activation, not $150. To me, that is a ludicrous amount to charge someone straight out without telling them that is about what they will be charged.
i stand corrected with tmobile then. sprint told me 1023 times that my first bill would be prorated + next month so I knew what I was getting.

Their reps go over it with you in store and via phone. I'm surprised it came as such a shock, they should have gone over it.
I personally don't mind it, since it means when I do leave Sprint (eventually) I'll get money back for the remaining time I didn't use the service, rather than send them a final payment/bill, possible fake "late" charges, etc.

Not saying I want to get out of my contract, but last time Sprint changed their TOS, tons of ppl haggled their way into getting $20 off per month for 24 months in order to NOT break their contract.
You have 30 days from when the charge first appears on your bill. So if your BILLING date is Aug 23, you have until Sept. 22 to assert your right to cancel.

How much time has to pass before you can sign up with them again?
you have to wait atleast 3 to 6 months.. should i stay or should i go now? i can get the same phone on clear in another month, can just go to boost for a month or two until its out... but i did pay $500 for this thing...

That sucks. I signed up with 4 lines in June 2010 with 25% discount. My bill is now $170, so with this new policy, it'll be $180. That's more than what I was paying for AT&T with 4 lines. Might have to talk to Sprint and figure out if something can be done as one of the main reasons for moving to Sprint was due to it's price and now it's really not much of a difference.

No. You are canceling the contract and your service goes with it.
if this affects you (2 or more lines) you can always setup a new account with another person on your account as the primary account holder, or just use boost after cancelling and sign up with clear after they sign up.
Before everyone gets their panties in a bunch, this change is only going to affect people with an old "add a line" plans. I found another post about this subject in another forum, and sprint isn't changing anything for the newer "unlimited" plans. Chances are, if you're using a smart phone, you aren't using the old plans where you had options to add data, add text, add internet, etc. And really, I would think that if you have an old plan where you only get limited minutes and you're buying a text plan, buying data, buying picture mail, and anything else .. you're probably paying too much and you should have changed your plan a long time ago.
Or so I hope what I found is correct, we have a family plan with 5 lines. Lol

We just signed up 3 lines with the 1500 min. /mo any mobile any time plan - all 3 evos. I have a 23% student discount and that's the reason I went with sprint. It works out to $52 bucks a month x3 phones, but if that's ending, then will cancel sprint and just go with the iphone 4 on att, keep the evos and sell them.
I'm actually kind of pissed about this, but if I can have a iphone 4 for the same price sprint will go up to, then I might as well have that.
FYI - depsite what the post on Consumerist says, I've been hearing elsewhere that Sprint does not consider this a "materially adverse change" and won't waive your ETF because of it. I don't care either way personally because it's still cheaper than any comprable family plan on Verizon or AT&T.

The discount will only apply to the first 2 lines of any family plan after the said date!

I'm pissed as well. I paid like $350 in ETFs and got rid of my ATT phones because with the discounts, I knew I would be paying less with Sprint. I also paid about $700 for the 4 Sprint phones (2 Evo and 2 blackberry).
I chatted with a Sprint rep and he said they will no longer offer discounts to lines 3-5 on services less than $29.99.
I'd switch back to ATT if I can get out without paying the ETF with Sprint.

"materially adverse" means "affecting your money". All the carriers do this, they posture and try to downplay the change to the TOS for 30 days after it goes into effect because by that time it's too late to get out of your contract.
The fact remains, you signed a contract with determined terms. If they change that contract before it expires YOU ARE NO LONGER BOUND TO IT. Don't let them BS you, know they are bound to the contract just as much as you are. Stand up for yourself if you are unhappy about this.
I received my latest sprint bill today and here are the extra charges just because i upgraded to Note 4 on my Sero Account.

I am expecting the $36 activation fee. I dont think there is a way around that but the $27.50 surcharge sounds ridiculous.

Here in Ca we pay tax on the full $799. But because my discount is from a credit union the $36 activation fee gets waived. Total cost was $164.
I had to pay about 40 bucks for my activation fee. So yea that seems about right

Same here. Picked up mine on Saturday and was given the same contact details but told about the $36 activation fee.
Im not on EasyPay or anything like that.
I just signed up For 2 More years on Sero account and paid $299 for the phone.

Yes, just told them the retail store had told me they would waive it. They said okay and took it off of the bill.

Yeah just call the corporate 1800 number and tell them you spoke to a rep that said they would waive it. They won't argue with you. In fact I've even done it on the live chat. You don't even have to call if you don't want too.
I thought u can upgrade again once half the phone was paid as long as you turned in your note 4 to sprint

This doesn't always work of rarely. You gotta be lucky... I've tried without luck haha.

Also the One Up program, as One Up customers didn't lose it when Sprint stopped offering it
I'm also on Sero 500. I've always payed the surcharges every month but it's only a few dollars. Here's mine from my most recent bill:

I didn't get charged the $36.00 upgrade fee, I never have with SERO.
I purchased the phone at a corporate store and had to call Sprint's business accounts number to have the plan set back to SERO while still at the store since the store didn't have access to the SERO plan code. Perhaps when the business accounts rep reset the plan they cancelled the upgrade fee at the same time.
